May DCM Recap

Submitted By: Ashley Ma

In unprecedented times, I found it hard to socialize with friends and even strangers because I can’t necessarily talk to others in person. Although, the May DCM was an exception. The fact that we got to play with other key clubbers in our division made the event so interactive. During the DCM we got to play Skribbl.io and talk to other members on discord, which exhausted my antisocial-quarantine habits. Unlike all the other DCMs in the past this event helped every key clubber get out of their comfort zone because we played with people that we aren't usually around. Usually, during the Ice-Skating DCMs or the Karaoke DCM I always find myself hanging around people I already know. Yet this DCM brought random members together from different clubs all over D15S to guess each other's drawing. No matter if we talked to compliment or make fun of someone else for their drawings, we shared an abundant amount of laughs.

The first DCM was a first for everybody. It was the first DCM that we had online! Although it was hectic, it was a very fun event and a good intro to key club! We had a large meeting in a discord call and then separated to different games of an online game called skribble.io. In this game, everyone takes turns to draw, and the rest guess what word they drew! It was very funny because some of the words were hard to draw, so some of the drawings we’re unrecognizable. Members were able to meet people from other clubs in our division. Lots of new friends and new experiences were made during this DCM!

- Pierre Godisan

The May DCM was different from any other DCM because it challenged Key Clubbers to find a way to still get together during quarantine. With the use of technology and Discord, Key Clubbers were able to come together and have a DCM. We played Scribbl.io, which was actually really fun. I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed interacting with other people after being by myself for so long. After each round, I wanted to play another (partly because I was really determined to win... but I never did). This DCM reminded me that through whatever circumstance, it is still important to connect with people and come together.

- Katelynn Situ

The DCM was really fun because I got to see all of my friends again while enjoying the games. To add on, I got to meet new people as well and share the fun experiences with them. Overall, it was a fantastic experience with a lot of friendly faces and I thoroughly enjoyed it very much. I can’t wait for the next DCM.

Introductory Zoom Meeting After a long while of not seeing each other, Colony Key Club members finally got back together through a zoom call to introduce new officers and plans for the upcoming year. The meeting was set to last around 20 minutes to half an hour and members were encouraged to attend to pitch in ideas about service events and what should occur in the future. Once the meeting started, the new board started to introduce themselves and their goals. We quickly went over old and new business so all the members could get a glimpse of what is happening as of currently. Although it wasn’t much, it was nice to see everyone that hopped on. Some members were excited to show what they have been up to and what service projects they have been working on. It’s nice to know that everyone is still doing great and still working hard to make our community a better place. Once we were all done talking and discussing, we sadly had to say goodbye until the next time.

Letters to Essential Workers With this pandemic occurring, a nice way to show our appreciation to essential workers is by making cards and sending them to wherever is needed. Members were encouraged to either write a meaningful message, poem or their own work of art. Although a simple card might not seem like much, it is a reminder for these amazing people that they are appreciated. Many members enjoyed this event as it was relaxing and fun to do. I personally also really liked expressing my creativity while sending some love in our community too. After cards were finished, everyone had to send them to their designated place.

The Letters to Essential Workers was a great way to show Key Club’s support for those risking their lives for ours. Our heroes are out there for countless days battling the Corona Virus head on with limited PPE. To give at least a grain of our appreciation for them is a great way to emotionally do our part in this pandemic. This was our way to show that we openly and visually support every single person working on the front lines to make sure our world remains intact. It’s clear that we all don’t have 8 years of med school on our back, but we have years' worth of encouragement to lighten up the weight of the world they carry every day. Submitted By: Emily Diep

When I heard about this event it sparked great interest and I felt that it would be an excellent experience for everyone to partake in. I felt that this was a positive and uplifting way to share happiness to all the hard workers out there. The Letters to Essential Workers event was an amazing opportunity to show my appreciation for those who work on the frontlines. At times like these, I feel that it is very important to share love and kindness towards one another, and this service event was the PERFECT opportunity to showcase my admiration and thanks to them. This event really helped me come to the realization about how hard all these people work and how important it is to honor them and help others. I was so glad to be given the opportunity to take part in this and really share the love during the hard times that we’re going through.
