August August 2019 2019 DIVISION 15 SOUTH | REGION 13 | CNH

EDITOR'S GREETING happy july belugas ! I'm hoping everyone had a great summer this year! Sadly, summer is coming to an end faster than ever and we will be busy belugas before we even know it. So, remember before school starts, remember to find time to do you summer assignments, readings, and also don't forget to hangout with your friends before summer ends! In addition, just because school's on break, that does not mean Key Club is on break! Remember to check with your presidents to see if there are any events during the summer for your home club. If not, there are plenty of Division events over summer such as DCM's and Region events so please come out and get your service on! Before I go, I just want to wish everyone a great rest of your summer. I hope you got the rest you needed. Good luck at school and don't forget to bring your spirit for club rush :)

LTG'S note what's popping belugas !

I hope you guys have been having a good summer! As our summer days come to a close, it is important to start planning for the new school year and specifically club rush. Start seeking out underclassmen and asking them to join Key Club! It is very important to make personal connections with potential members so they would keep coming back. Also start going to more service projects again! Just because it’s summer and it’s break season your commitment and service to your community is always needed. Contact your club officer boards to see if there are any service projects to close your summer with. Be sure to go to Region Beach Clean Up (August 10th) and the August DCM (August 1st). Hope to see you there!

The July DCM was a really fun event at De Anza Park in Ontario. I had a blast playing the different games! We had a rotation of three different games: water balloon toss, ultimate frisbee, and nationball. My first game was the water balloon toss, where we had to throw and catch a water balloon without dropping it between partners. My partner and I had so much fun even though we were eliminated in one of the first rounds. In ultimate frisbee, we had to score points by passing the frisbee to our teammates onto the enemy team’s goal. The game required a lot of teamwork and communication, so I was able to get to know key clubbers from other divisions! Nationball was just dodgeball, but with more goalies. It was very fun trying to hit Nathan of D15N! The most memorable event was dumping water on our LTG’s! The July DCM was overall a fun experience and I would recommend everyone to go to the next one!

Submitted by: Pierre Godisan Chino Hills HIgh School A few days ago, I attended the DCM that took place during the D15 Olympics. I'm so proud of my home club for having the Officer of the Month and being the Club of the Month! Also, our LTG Joanne did great and even sacrificed herself at the end of the event and got a bucket of water dumped on her for PTP. It was great to know what other clubs have been up to. I feel inspired by fellow key clubbers every day. Can't wait for the next DCM!

(officer bonding hike and clean up) (officer bonding hike and clean up) Colony’s Key club officers planned a bonding day activity by going hiking at Etiwanda Falls during summer vacation. Once school ends, it is very difficult for officers to meet and plan for future events and discuss activities for the club, but a few members of Colony’s key club were able to get together to do that. We picked a Saturday morning for a light clean up at Etiwanda falls. As we hiked, we picked up any visible trash along the way to dispose of. The hike lasted a few short hours and during that time, we were able to collect trash and talk about the future of our key club. Most of our members are very outgoing and active, so a hike was the perfect place for them to thrive and have fun. Our treasurer, Vincent said that the whole event was very peaceful yet fun and exciting. Everyone was hyped and jumping all over the place. Some said we couldn’t have picked a better activity and that this was the best thing we have ever done in key club. I really enjoy a good hike or trail so this was a definite yes for me. Going on this trip was very refreshing and new. It was different, usually any of our activities are held indoors but being outside was very nice. Random strangers even stopped by to say thank you for keeping the place clean and contributed to the activity themselves. I was able to capture many photos of nature and record my friends being their goofy selves with no restriction. Least to say that we were the noisiest people taking the trail that day.

(teacher breakfast celebration) (teacher breakfast celebration) Last event for the school year was a success being a breakfast held especially for the teachers to thank them. All key clubbers came to school around 5 in the morning, 2 hours before school started to prep and set up tables. Once all the dÊcor and tablecloths were set, everyone began to prepare the food. There was a waffle station, a drink station and hot food items. We had split up into four groups and made everything ready for each station. Once the teachers arrived, food was distributed and drinks were passed out, there was a recap for next years CHOC’s walkathon. After all the teachers were done eating, some key club members stayed behind to clean up and the rest went back to class. Chairs were hurriedly put back and all the trash was collected before the period ended. Everything went really well. Our club president and all our other officers were there from start to finish and although it was tiring, everyone was very pleased with the work. Thanks to this event, all the members learned how to work together better and all the officers learned how to work efficiently.

One of our members Emilia really enjoyed the event and wanted to try to hold a breakfast at least once a semester. Not only did we become closer with the members, but we also got to have some nice light conversations with the teachers. The president got to spend this event with her senior friends for the last time, and everyone else built a greater bond. This was personally my favorite event for second semester. Not going to lie though, waking up early was a bit tiring but everything was worth it. It was a nice event to get involved in and all the teachers were very thankful. I came in earlier to set up the tables and prepped the waffle station. Afterwards, I picked up my camera and snapped a few pictures of all the members and staff faculty. It was great seeing the principals and dean pose every time the camera pointed in their direction. There was nothing but laughs that day and it was very enjoyable. This is definitely an event I would recommend members to participate in as it is fun and shows thanks to our teachers.

olympics D15 The recently held D15 DCM was not like any other! Though the weather was hot, the people there definitely made everything worth it! The event started with an icebreaker that cleverly combined a classic game of rock paper scissors and introductions. Afterwards, everyone split up into their respective groups to hold their Division Council Meetings, and once the meetings were over, the games began! From nationball, to water balloon toss, to even ultimate frisbee, the selection of activities were endless! Key Clubbers were able to bond within their teams and create new friendships while also getting a little competitive. But there’s always fun in a little competition! To end the DCM off on a high note, we all came together for and raised an additional $50 for PTP and were able throw water balloons and dump water on out beloved LTGS and help them cool down from the summer heat! The Olympic DCM was definitely one for the books for it helped us stay engaged, and entertained!
