Key Club Pledge I pledge, on my honor, to uphold the Objects of Key Club International; to build my home, school and community; to serve my nation and world; and combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions.

LTG’s Note What’s Poppin’ Belugas? Happy August! Thank you all so much for your participation in Key Club these past few months. We've already logged 600+ service hours and I couldn't be prouder of the division I serve. I know things have been hard on the clubs and on everything worldwide. Working to make this term enjoyable for you guys has given me so much motivation these past few months! I'm always here for my amazing belugas, so if you need anything, please reach out! I know you guys have lots of great ideas and I'd love to hear them. I see all your hard work and I appreciate each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart. I hope your summer has been great and I hope your school year will be even better! I can't wait to see you all at the upcoming online DCMs. I love you all so much <3 Stay safe and wear your mask!

Splashing Into Service,

Emily Lu Lieutenant Governor 2020-2021

A letter from the

Editor Hello Everyone! Welcome to August. This month, I thought I would give you a little more information on Key Club’s causes. I hope you enjoy learning about PTP and help us support those kids in need by protecting their health. Speaking of kids’ health, as we go back to school in August, please stay safe! Whether you are staying at home and learning from a distance or going back to school in person, I implore you to take cautionary measures. If not for yourself, please remember that by staying safe, you are protecting your friends, family, and all loved ones. Let us work to spread love instead, through our service. Also, to all Seniors, I am so sorry your year must start like this, but I hope that you have a wonderful last year of high school anyway. To everyone, stay safe, stay healthy, and I can’t wait to see you soon!

Excited to Serve,

Ria Parikh News Editor 2020-2021

Superher-OTC

Officer training conference Recap

Submitted By: Emily Lu

The superhero-OTC was a very interesting experience given that it had to be done online rather than in person like usual. The zoom meeting and breakout rooms that were scheduled demonstrate the effort and determination of our LTGs and make a great example for future officers to make adjustments no matter what is thrown at you. As for the content of the OTC, although there were various technical difficulties, the LTGs made very informative presentations on the responsibilities officers hold in key clubs and it was especially helpful towards those who may have had questions or uncertainties about their position. I know I learned much about my position and plan to apply all that I learned to my term this year. LTGs also continued the love box tradition, making it fun and enjoyable to those who attended. Overall, the OTC was well made in helping officers while adjusting to the COVID-19 situation we all face today.

- Naya Lee, Chino Hills

The Superhero-OTC was really informative. I think it bettered my understanding of key club as a whole and it taught me a lot of what Key Club truly is. Other than talking about the qualities Key Club represents, it taught me the DOs and DONTs of being a good officer and helped me think about the weaknesses I have to improve on. A section I really liked was the section on bettering your public speaking. That part really spoke to me as I am generally a really shy person and hearing that presentation taught me skills to better my speaking in front of others. Overall, OTC was loaded with information and I left knowing a lot more about being in Key Club and representing it as an officer.

- Amaka Chukwu, Chino Hills

Officer training conference this year was a great experience, despite it being online. The general and breakout sessions were super informative, and as an upcoming treasurer I learned a lot about the MUC. I was worried it would be less fun this year, but I still got to talk to people and love notes were so cute! I can’t wait for RTC and the rest of the term!

Articles AND Visuals

June Service Week We wrote and mailed handwritten letters to elders to spread positivity. On Motivational Monday, we wrote letters to the elderly. It was a great way to use my artistic abilities to help others. Also, it was a great way to help people from the safety of my own home. A lot of elderly must feel really lonely right now, and really scared of leaving too. The experience reminded me of my own grandparents, who I dearly miss. It was a lot of fun to make cards, and I was even able to get my whole family to help me. Together, I hope that we made a difference in the lives of many people by bringing smiles to their faces and joy to their hearts.

June Service Week We earned money for March of Dimes by tracking our exercise miles.

The Track Tuesday event (Charity Miles) during the June Service Week inspired so many members to get of their couch and start working out. Ever since quarantine started, I don’t think I’m in the minority when I say I wanted to start working out with my newfound free time. Since everyone was trapped inside of their houses, I think this was a great opportunity to get some fresh air, earn some service hours, and help charities towards their goals. In fact. This event propelled my motivation to continue running miles for charity. With 74 hours spent on running miles in total, I’m glad to see that many people are taking their opportunities to help those in need.

We earned money for charities by answering quiz questions.

The Food Friday event (via BeanBeanBean.com) was just as fun to complete as saying the name “BeanBeanBean”. By just answering simple quiz questions I was able to donate money to those who are not as fortunate to have the luxury of a stable supply of food. In fact, it didn’t only help the people on the other end of the beans, but on my end, I learn the ASL alphabet in only a couple of minutes. There was an option to answer ASL questions that were only limited to the alphabet and I got the opportunity to collect beans and learn the basics of another language. It may not be as impressive as learning the piano but at the end of the day I got something out of it, and many others did too. I am glad to say that it was time well spent.

Key club international International Spotlight Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) Mission: To develop local projects which will reduce the number of children in

our three-state District who are killed or injured by trauma, ensuring all children live happy, healthy and safe lives. Why: Pediatric Trauma is the leading cause of death and injury among children, ages 14 and under, in the United States. However, ninety percent of unintentional injuries causing pediatric trauma are preventable. Our Impact: We support PTP by raising money and giving grants for partner hospitals, using the knowledge of the partner hospitals to start our own

projects, and educating our community on how to prevent pediatric trauma. We raise money individually in our clubs, through division and district events, and through Fall Rally. Partner Hospitals: San Diego, Loma Lina, Madera, Honolulu, and Reno. What You Can Do: At the club level, you can help raise money for PTP and educate your community about its importance. You can try online fundraisers, such as Go Fund Me pages, and hosting virtual fundraiser events. In general, some ways to raise money are car washes, bake sales, donations from local business, rent a games areas, talent shows, bake offs, movie nights, or frozen yogurt fundraisers.
