EDITOR'S GREETING happy august belugas ! How are you guys feeling? School JUST started for me and I am very excited for club rush this school year at my home club. Although summer is over or almost over for you, don't feel too sad because Key Club szn is just about to start! For those of you who already started school, hopefully you are not drowning in homework yet. And for those of you taking the SAT this month, I WISH YOU THE BEST! I know my studious Belugas will excel; I believe in each and every one of you. On to Key Club matters, fall rally is coming up so it would be a great idea to start planning and coming up with fundraiser ideas to support PTP. But before that, I hope you guys have a great club rush week; hopefully you will get lots and lots of member sign ups! With all that said, I wish you guys the best in this school year and I hope that you achieve all your goals. Remember to take breaks and hang out with friends if you can!

LTG'S note
(hello belugas) I hope you all had a good summer. As
school starts again, club rush is upon us! A lot of people have the common misconception that you must be an officer to take part on promoting Key Club during club rush and that’s false! As a member, as your board if you can help run the booth or pass out papers during club rush. You can also wear your shirt during club rush week which will definitely make people ask you why it says belugas and your school name on the shirt. I hope you are all able to promote Key Club to many more members and have more hands to help make a lasting impact on your communities. I know a lot of you guys are excited as Fall Rally is right around the corner. Remember to participate in division wide fundraisers that help us reach our goal of $5,000 for the Pediatric Trauma Program, a organization that’s part of Kiwanis that help prevent and support injuries related to trauma and preventable causes. Last year we raised over $4,500 so I know we can be able to reach our goal this year! Best of luck in your new school year!

Skating towards PTP, the belugas of D15S along with D15N, D15E, D35E, and D35W enjoyed the lively atmosphere at the August DCM! This multi division event showcased the teamwork and sense of community Key Club never fails to exhibit, and this was truly a fun and exciting event for all who attended. The event had an amazing turnout, as the rink was swarming with Key Clubbers from all five divisions; every LTG did an incredible job planning the entire event, from creating a playlist to promoting it through a variety of media platforms. Specifically, LTG Joanne Ma of D15S exhibited her leadership skills by helping preside over the event the entire time, ensuring every Key Clubber was safe and having fun. With every beluga who attended the event, Division 15 South earned $6 for the Pediatric Trauma Program, helping to promote safety and the quality of life for children while simultaneously reducing the number of traumas they endure. At the August DCM, Key Clubbers engaged in a variety of activities, from skating, dancing, riding bumper cars, or simply socializing with friends. This joint DCM was a great opportunity for Key Clubbers from all five divisions to meet each other and forge relationships, adding to a stronger sense of community.

The DCM this month was on the same day as the joint event "Skate for PTP" with almost the entire region, including D15N, D15E, D35W, D35E, and US! It was a great event that raised money for PTP!

(cal aero volunteering) (cal aero volunteering) Volunteering as a teacher's assistant this summer was such a rewarding experience. When I first started, I was a little anxious as I don’t usually like being around kids for too long. I was going every Friday for an hour and a half, which usually flew by. I went to the same classroom every week, and I got to spend the summer with a wonderful second grade class. The teacher, Mrs.Rivera was so nice and helpful. The kids in her class were definitely on the more active side, and a little chaotic at times. I still loved going and formed good relationships with some of the kids. Helping them with their work and seeing them grow was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. I got to help them play games and do a lot of fun art activities. It was so heartwarming to be greeted by them every week, and I was touched by how excited they were to see me. This Friday was my last week going, as I am starting school soon, but I definitely want to volunteer as a TA at Cal Aero again in the future.

(region 13 beach cleanup) (region 13 beach cleanup)
As one of our last days of summer, the region of 13 lionfish had a beach clean up. It took place at the Santa Monica Beach, which appeared to be pretty clean already but there’s always trash to be picked up! The day started at 9AM and we waited for a bit for more divisions to come so the LTGs can initiate the beach cleanup event. It started with learning the region 13 chant and other chants for key clubbers to use throughout the day. Then for a little bit, certain volunteers went in the middle (of what we had of a circle) to tell some jokes to pump up the mood. After the little division in everyone, the LTGs eventually created 12 groups of key clubbers in which we were all able to introduce ourselves in the group and create a chant for our team. I was group 3, and our team was “Yes” which was funny, but it was nice to meet everyone in my group and form a little friendship! After all groups presented their cheer, we were given gloves

and some people had trash bags for anyone to throw trash away. Eventually we all split up for an hour to accomplish the goal of the event: Clean up the beach! After an hour, we all came back to our set up and all teams compared the amount of trash they picked up (in total, there was actually a lot of trash that was picked up from little pieces of plastic to coke liter bottles). Then the 12 teams were split up to 3 groups, each one was either to play: ultimate frisbee, dodgeball, or sandcastle making. After that, everyone was free to do whatever near the Santa Monica area they want until their buses were to leave at 5. Overall, I found the experience of the Region 13 Beach CleanUp such a great experience for everyone to create new memories with other people in divisions as well as performing a step in helping the environment by keeping it clean!
