CLUB UPDATES: AYALA HIGH SCHOOL

CLUB RUSH submitted by: Melanie Manorat

Our school just held club rush and we’re looking forward to a better term this year! Our member count has sadly been dropping over the years, however this year many people visited our booth. We’re hoping that many people will join and that we can improve our club the best we can. This is my last club rush and term, so I hope to make the best of it. This year we planned many changes in an attempt to better ourselves and the club. At Club Rush, we advertised to the members by handing out flyers and walking around with spirit sticks and signs! A few dedicated members helped us out by advertising while the officers helped manage the booth. This happened over a span of three days. It may have been tiring to rush out of our classes as early as we could to set up our booths, but it was satisfying and fun to get out there and let Key Club be known. Even if we don’t have a high member count, that’s fine too. As long as Key Club stays true to its values, leadership, character building, caring and inclusiveness, then that is already a good year. Overall, I hope that the new members can come to enjoy the things I loved so much in Key Club and use it as a stepping stone to find their full potential!

CLUB UPDATES: chino hills high school Club rush went really well, as always, this year! We attracted many new members and I really enjoyed interacting with previous members! Our club was really spirited and we showed off all the adorable D15S beluga spirit gear to everyone who stopped by our booth. We gave out candy and a variety of chocolate to everyone who signed up, along with a Key Club flyer and magazine! I especially enjoyed introducing our club and all we do for the community to prospective freshmen members. However, one thing I wish we would've implemented into club rush this year was letting current members help out at the booth for hours throughout the week! I believe students seeing how other students, not just officers, enjoy our club and dedicate time to it would've further encouraged signups. But overall, club rush was still a success this year, and I'm excited to see what awaits our club from here on out!

club updates: chino hills high school first meeting! submitted by: andreana flores

Chino Hills Key Club’s first meeting was a success! Over 150 students from the school attended and stayed the duration of lunch to be introduced to the officer board as well as listen to a guest speaker that spoke about getting involved with cleaning water for those in need to drink. After the guest speaker finished his presentation, there wasn’t a lot of time left of lunch (when our meetings are held) to explain the agenda containing all of the week’s events, but we were able to hand everyone an agenda to read for themselves; we also sent out a remind message incase someone was unable to retrieve an agenda. At the end of the meeting, the bell rang and the officer board gave out cookies and candy as a simple appreciation towards members for being interested in Key Club and attending the first meeting! Based off the first meeting, I can tell it’s going to be a great school year for the club!

club updates: colony high school first meeting! submitted by: gieverlyn guerrero

Monday, August 27, was the first meeting of the new school year. So many students were present at the meeting that the room was full and some students had to stand in the doorway due to the lack of seats. Here we debriefed interested students on what Key Club is. This went on for majority of the meeting. Many people asked questions about Key Club, about what we do and about what Key Club offers to their members. We discussed the volunteer opportunities we offer and the chances of scholarships once one was a senior. There were many new faces at the meeting, but some came back from the previous year, excluding the seniors of 2018. It was very refreshing to see new faces, and it brought up the morale of the officers to see so many students from Colony attend our meeting. There was some discord as it was hard to get all of the students to sign in, especially when we’d have to record them later, but we got all the students.

All the students were turned toward the screen, eager to learn more about our club. Then we passed out treats to those who answered questions about our discussion. With over 20 students in the classroom, the officers and I were working hard to manage the group. The meeting ended on a good note as we finished with a group photo of the students for this year’s yearbook.
