How’s it going, Snow Leopards! I hope that everyone is doing well in school! Almost over with the year guys, we’re in November! As News Editor, I enjoy making new color palettes for our monthly newsletters that correspond with the theme of the month, or the events that will happen. I’m hoping to incorporate more graphics that will give our newsletters a nice look! I encourage you all to continue to be actively involved in your club, as well as school. If you are a senior, start applying for scholarships if you haven’t. There are many out there so don’t be afraid to apply! If you have any questions on scholarship websites, feel free to send me an email! You can also find specific scholarships if you search them up on google, but make sure they are legit! You shouldn’t get charged to apply to them. If you are interested in submitting an article and visual, please make sure that the visual is clear. It could be a picture taken at an event, or a graphic. Please don’t use blurry images or an image from the internet. If you have questions on articles and visuals, both LTG Marlen and I will be happy to answer! In this issue of Leaping into the News, you will find out about the DLT’s experience in their positions, articles from your division, key club week, spotlights, and more. Happy Reading!

Serving with Gratitude,

2021-2022 News Editor

Hello Everyone! It’s finally fall and our club has gotten on to a steady start at San Luis Obispo High School! We’ve kept up our project with First Fruit Farms and we’ve also worked with other organizations such as a local kids craft night to help provide service for our community! On the DLT side of things, we’ve met to work together on planning our next DCM which will take place in my own hometown of San Luis Obispo! Can’t wait to see all of you again!

2021-2022 Executive Assistant

Hey Snow Leopards! Can you guys believe we’re already in November! What? Being part of the Division Leadership Team has been a great experience so far and time has gone by so fast because of it. So far, I have been working along with my division team to come up with new ideas for our upcoming events! I have also been sending out reminders for our events and providing specific information regarding them. So, make sure to get added to our google groups to know the latest information. I have also been learning a lot throughout these months and hope to learn much more! I’m happy that we have been able to have some DCM’s back in person because I have gotten to meet many of you. Like always, don’t hold back on reaching out to me with any questions!

Hello Key Clubbers! These past few months have been hectic for quite a few of us I am sure since many of us are adjusting to being back in school. As a DLT member, I have been working on creating graphics and developing more resources for members. It is important for us to stay connected as the year progresses so our division can continue in the amazing progress we have already been making. If you have questions or suggestions, do not hesitate to reach out and I will be happy to help! Keep up the great work D24/29!

2021-2022 Media Editor

Hey there Division 24/29! Hope everyone is enjoying the school year so far, especially now that holidays are near. Which is why I am SO excited for our October DCM for Spooktober! I am so ecstatic for this specific DCM because we will be allowed to wear costumes and it will be in a different location from Santa Maria. But besides that, I am proud of every club, especially when it comes to service projects because I have heard new and creative fun projects to help our community! This is such a great start and I look forward to hearing what every club has to offer in our Division, throughout the year!

Hey Snow Leopards! As the school year continues, we are beginning to start our first division fundraiser! We have decided that we will be fundraising with Chipotle. We are waiting on decisions/approval from upper authorities, but we plan to have it soon. The date is yet to be determined, but we will have one location in SLO at Madonna Rd, and one location in Santa Maria at Betteravia Road. A third of all proceeds from Key Clubbers will go toward division funds! Stay tuned for future updates on division fundraising!

2021-2022 Fundraising Coordinator

Hey Snow Leopards! I am currently involved with the many opportunities provide with key club right now and other opportunities presented by me. I’ve also been busy with football and loads of homework too. After the successful dcm last month, I feel like this next one would even be better and I look forward to it! Reminder, it’s Halloween themed so bring your costumes or just your regular club attire!

Community Events Provided by Jeremy Lee Oani (ERHS) As the school year has progressed, the ERHS Key Club has continued to attempt to help the community in as many ways as we possibly can. For the past month, we were able to participate in various service events and some members even went to the aRT-TC 2021 event! One service event we participated in was a Serve Santa Maria event at Pioneer Park. At the event, we were able to plant trees to help the environment! Another event that we partook in was at the Chalk Festival in Old Town Orcutt! There, we basically just helped set up, clean up, help activities, and more. We also took part in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Event in which we helped raise awareness for Alzheimer’s disease. The most recent service activity we were a part of was the Relay For Life event. Here we basically just helped facilitate the annual fundraiser which actually took place at the Santa Maria Speedway. We are also attempting to fundraise through Krispy Kreme BOGO cards which will really help our club here at Righetti. One of the big events that we were able to attend was the aRT-TC 2021 event. As implied by the name, it was art-themed and was very fun. We were able to meet more members across our region and also learned lots of info about leadership and just key club in general! We hope to continue this trend of constant service opportunities in which our members can attend! GO, WARRIORS!

Elks Rodeo Parade Provided by Nathaniel De Francia (PVHS) A service event that Pioneer Valley Key club decided to participate in was the Elks Rodeo Parade. This service event let members of our club decorate the Kiwanis float that was going to be flown throughout Broadway. This event let members connect with other Key Club members from around different schools while helping Kiwanis being represented throughout the community. After all the hard work the members did, they were able to participate in the parade and have a fun time. There were around 8 members in attendee from our school and there were many more from other schools. At the end of the day, it was a great experience for all to help and serve our community.

Club Rush Provided by Finn Westley (SLOHS) On September 15 at lunch, our Key Club officers set up our table in preparation for club rush where we hoped to teach more people about the purpose of Key Club and gather new members. We set out examples of past service projects and the Key Club International banner. Our officers created name tags, fliers, and sign-up sheets. In total, we gathered over thirty names and emails! Thank you to everyone who helped out in preparing for this, it was more than worth it! We have held three of our weekly meetings since Club Rush and are delighted to see so many new faces attending. We hope to get everybody going very soon.

Honky Tonk Provided by Juan Pacheco (SMRP) On August 27th, 2021, Key Club Recreations and Parks partook in the local Honky Tonk at the Veterans Memorial Center. At the Honky Tonk, members helped in multiple ways, being split into groups, each given a specific assignment. For example, one group would be in charge of serving the food to the customers, another group would be in charge of making sure there was always enough food to serve, others would help prepare the food, etc. In total, there were seven club members from Key Club Recreations and Parks at the event lending a hand; six of which, participated in the event from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm while the other stayed for a longer duration of time. As to customer service, many of which were pleased with the service we provided. Each consumer getting the necessary amount of food served, receiving what they requested on their plate. Regarding the experience of the assisting club members and those who were primarily in charge of making the food, essentially all of us were satisfied. We all enjoyed our time at the Honky Tonk, spending time with one another building stronger connections, and creating new ones with others from different clubs, those who prepared the food or helped with the event, and those who we served. Overall, the Honky Tonk was a success for the Club and more importantly the city.

Monday Show Your K! Show people what Key Club is all about! Spread the word by wearing Key Club gear and publicizing Key Club Week in local stores, on your school website, in community newspapers — even on a door. Decorate the door of your advisor, a business or a community leader to spread awareness about Key Club. Make sure to tag #keyclubweek in your stories, feed, etc. — your officers could score some winning merch!

Tuesday Kudos to the Key Players! Personally thank all the Key Club supporters you know — teachers, advisors and other key players. Write thank-you notes, host an appreciation dinner or do something uniquely your own style to recognize the contributions of these special people. Use the “Key Role” template or “Key Player” template to show appreciation.

Wednesday Dare to Share! Celebrate diversity and equity with the Key Club family. We have members across the globe, and we want to spotlight you! Check out your Instagram story for a GIPHY sticker you can share to show what makes you and your club shine.

11

Thursday Random Acts of Kindness! A smile goes a long way. Spread happiness throughout your school by implementing little random acts of kindness, such as leaving cards with inspirational messages on every student’s locker or just simply holding the door for someone else. You can use these posters to hang up around your school and community. Post a picture with the hashtag #KeyClubWeek, and your club might win some cool Key Club stickers!

Friday Connect the Ks! Key Club is the largest high school service organization in the world and is a member of the Kiwanis family. Celebrate the entire family of Kiwanis by getting the whole gang involved. Connect with local Kiwanis, Circle K International, Builders, K-Kids or Aktion clubs and team up for a joint service project or virtual event. Click here to gain some ideas on what you can do! If you have a really cool service project, submit it to the service directory by November 30. Use the KCI week GIPHY stickers to let us know what Kiwanis Family you plan to join next.

“My favorite Key Club memory took place two years ago when I helped plant trees for the City. I came with friends early in the morning and worked till noon for a number of days. Now, I get to pass by those trees every day and see how the surrounding land flourishes.” -Alex Martinez, Pioneer Valley President “My favorite Key Club memory is when our club was volunteering to put on a kids' craft night and we were trying to demonstrate how to make butterflies out of empty toilet paper rolls. The kids were getting really creative with theirs (making spiders out of extra materials and such), and one of them suggested we try to make a little person out of one of the cardboard rolls. So the kids that had finished their craft, along with all of the Key Club members, went hunting through leftover materials and supplies to find ways to make a face, hair, and arms. It was a lot of fun. We named our little person Terri, and it became our mascot until COVID eventually shut the event down.” - Finn Westley, San Luis Obispo “My favorite Key Club memory would be volunteering at the Drive Thru Boo event, giving candy to kids who thought they wouldn’t have a Halloween that year (2020) and getting to see their excited faces!” -Galilea Zacarias, Santa Maria Recreation & Parks
