LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR monica reyes
Hey Koalas, Happy New Year! With elections for the new term and DCON registration complete it is evident that we are starting off the year on the right foot. With around 7 weeks to DCON it’s a great time to start reflecting on the accomplishments of the year. Look back to see what you have accomplished as a members of a club, division, region, district, and international. We have made a big impact in the world around us. I am very proud of each and every one of you. For all of you who will continue to serve as Key Club members next year, I hope you never forget the accomplishments of the 2014-2015 term. I am very proud of those of you who were elected as officers next term. I can already see the potential and the things the division will achieve next year. Remember to always believe in yourself, remember why you joined Key Club, and remember why you stayed. For those of you whose election results didn’t fall in your favor, there are plenty of other leadership opportunities to take advantage of. But ultimately, serving as a member is the greatest thing you could do for international. District Convention is approaching very quickly. It is now time to start preparing for the event. Please note that this is a club event, not a division event. Bring lots and lots of club spirit. DCON also marks the official end of the 2014-2015 term and the beginning of the 2015-2016 term. This is where current officers will retire and elects will be installed. I look forward to seeing all the new officer lead the division. As the term comes to a close I have been reflecting on all the division’s achievements this month. Even though our rough times, Division 25 East always found a reason to smile and keep on going. Through the constant community service and fundraising we have proven that we are fantastic servant leaders. Keep up the good work, koalas. Finish the year strong! conclave In 2012, a quiet, awkward little freshman at Granada Hills Charter High School made a decision of joining Key Club. Along the way, he met his greatest friends, grew an undying passion for service, and developed leadership skills and virtues that he could carry with him for the rest of his life. And now, on January 10, 2014, he was elected as Division 25 East’s Lieutenant Governor for the 2015-2016 term; his name is Tyler Kowta. He has already proved that he would never let us down throughout the years. Lt. G. Monica Reyes was an amazing leader, and now it’s time for someone else to pursue the marvelous legacy of Division 25 East. Congratulations Tyler, we all support and love you, and we have full faith that the Division is in great hands. All in all, Conclave 2015 was without a doubt an overwhelmingly emotional experience, but also a fulfilling one. Just seeing Giselle Kim,Tyler Kowta, and Michael Lee recite speeches that came solely from the bottom of their hearts was a feeling that no one could explain. We all are definitely so proud of the three of them and all their work. Cheers to this new term, may it be filled with nothing but success, triumph, and new friendships! // Cheili Briones, Granada Hills

moments from the photobooth.
Although I showed up a tad late to the Region Olympics, I found it to be a really exciting event. I knew a few people, so during the group activities, I had a strong team! We vowed to win every game, due to having two athletes in my group. Our competitive mindset kicked in and we tried super hard to win, but it was okay when we lost. The funniest activity was the sucking of Fruit punch out of a baby's bottle race. Our region has a variety of very hasty bottle suckers. Overall, my experience at this event went pretty great, and I would enjoy participating in it again. // Huy Ho, Cleveland

I woke up early that day excited to be working on a
Rose Parade Float. When we got there it was very cold but I was very happy to volunteer. I was assigned the
job of cutting off pedals from the flower. The job was very tedious however I was able to talk to other
members from different key club divisions and districts.
That was the highlight of the event, socializing with other clubs. They gave us a free lunch of burgers and such so
I had no complaints from then on. Overall the event was very fun despite cold weather conditions.
GRANADA HILLS CHARTER
Gift Wrapping On December 7th, GHCHS Key Club, as well as with the other mighty clubs of Division 25 East, stayed out in front of Toys-R-Us to wrap gifts for on coming customers. Many of them were surprised that we were wrapping gifts just for the matter of service, and that portrayed the beauty and true values of Key Club. We were not doing this for money, not because we messed up and needed to make up for it, but because we simply wanted to do something generous for our community. We ourselves decided to get up early to serve other people, and that’s what makes us incredible. So next time, don’t miss out on an amazing opportunity to give to your community!
Officer Reflection: Tech Chair Cheili Briones “This month was great for Granada. We are all especially excited for the new term approaching and are very confident in the elects. I see so much potential in the 2015-2016 board and believe we are going to do great things. I also attended the Rose Float Decoration for my first time and it was a great experience. I got to communicate with many of the Kiwanis while working on the floats! For January, we are planning many fundraisers as well as fun new events that involve working with animals, so stay tuned koalas!”
Kennedy RUN OR DYE Memorial Day, Kennedy key clubbers got to experience the world’s most colorful 5k! Run or Dye was certainly one of the most enjoyable runs that Kennedy has ever done. We had the opportunity to paint each other and the sky. In the end we cleaned up the running pathways and got treated to some free Run or Dye gear.
Reflections “Summer has just begun but that doesn’t
mean the service stops! This term we have so many exciting service events planned for our members to participate in. Color Run one of the events the members (including the board) are super ecstatic about! We also started to sell our koala wristbands again, which is one of many beneficial fundraisers to come. I can hopefully show that service doesn’t have to be boring but also fun. This way as a club we can gain more members!” Jesse Gonzaga, Club Vice President
James Monroe High School Key Club Events: Gift Wrapping: This month we did gift wrapping to raise donations! This was a joint effort with other schools including Kennedy.

Rose Float Decorating: Members assisted the Kiwanis in preparing for the annual Rose Parade. New Year’s Race: Monroe Key Club kicked off the year right with this event! The club helped serve runners and cheered them on! MEND: At MEND, we packaged food for the homeless and families in need.
Officer Reflection: Happy New Year, Key Clubbers! Here’s to another year of saving lives, serving others, showing our spirit, and building our home, school, and community! This month, Monroe attended Conclave and watched the election of the new Lt. Governor. We also packed our 1000th bag of food at MEND. Thinking of all of the families that the Key Clubbers of Monroe fed fills me with so much club spirit! We also volunteered with the division at multiple events. Seeing members active during winter break and excited to start another year of service makes being a club president an amazing experience. With DCON fast approaching, Monroe is busy preparing for a weekend that we will never forget! -President Kayla Gonzalez
Northridge Academy Water Gun Fun
OFFICER REFLECTION
During the Region 7 Beach Clean Up our club decided to sell Water Guns and Water with flavor for 1$ each. We wanted to be able to help the members cool off with a refreshing drink and have fun in the sun. We made posters and flyers to get their attention and soon enough it worked. It was a definitely a great fundraising idea since it was pretty inexpensive but was in high demand being in the hot sun. It was a pretty ingenious plan too since we knew it was easily profitabel and we’d be able to raise some funds for our own club. I’m glad our president put this together because I had a blast running around and cheering while yelling to go buy our goodies.
Margie Santos | Northridge Academy President
There’s been up and downs, but we’ve pushed through. Northridge has been trying to up our game to represent our home club. We may not be a big club, but we have some pretty rad devoted members. My goals for the 2014-2015 term are: member retention, creating competent members, inspiring people to run for a position, having fun, memorable service events and fundraisers, and to build a closer relationship with my fellow D25E clubs.

Kayla Gonzales can easily be recognized at any division event. Her hard work and dedication toward the division and the club she serves is so apparent. She not only inspires her members but inspires me as well. Her passion and drive to serve is so great and should be taken as something to learn from. Her leadership skills inspire many and her will power to complete work is colossal. This month, Kayla Gonzales truly deserves this award.
