Lieutenant Governor Estefany Merino

Hello D28E!

Summer has come and gone and August has fallen before us and in a few weeks we will be returning to school. Although this month marks the end to our late nights, the new school year marks the opportunity to continue to serve the community, share our passion, and to grow as leaders. I hope many of you have accomplished your summer goals! If not, what could you have change to accomplish these goals? How can you improve this coming month? If your summer goals were accomplished I can congratulate you and motivate you to continue strong! With this new school year marks “Club Rush” and “Dues” season. Remember to always look back at your Key Club Moment and why you have the passion you have today. It’s important that we continue spread the word of Key Club among our peers, parents, and teachers. To promote dues to reach our division goal of 800 dues paid members. Remember, that dues are $11.50 ($7.00 to international | $4.50 to District) and as a dues payed member the doors of opportunity are unlocked. Promote the attendance of Regional Training Conference, Fall Rally, District Convention, International Convention, DCM’s, And Division events! There’s so many ways to get involved and the experiences within this organization will be one to remember. Utilize your resources! This last month I had the opportunity to attend International Convention in the beautiful city of Chicago, Illinois. There I created new connections, learned more about my role, and newly-elected the new International Board. Resources and experiences I wish to share with you all and to grow our division. While preparing for the new school year it’s essential that you set goals for the clubs you serve and your self. To strive for our division goals in memberships, funds raised for preferred charities, and service! that all as one emphasize the importance of this in order to bring our division to greater heights! I wish you all the best of the luck and to stay optimistic! Always feel free to contact the division leadership team, region advisor, or myself with in questions! I’ll see you all at the August Divisional Council Meeting, August 7th, @ Valley High School!

Aloha D28E!

If you have not yet though, take some time and set goals for yourself this year! We are in for an amazing year so take charge and prepare for the year to come! Within this issue, you will be able to find some recaps of the Key Club International convention that occured in the beginning of this month, and of course meeting our newly elected international council! KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION Valley | Estefany Merino Having the opportunity to attend Kiwanis International Convention was an incredible experience especially as a Key Clubber. This year it was held at Las Vegas, Nevada, from June 28 to July 1. Around 20 Key Club members from across Region 5 attended to volunteer for the ceremony of flags. Once arriving to the venue and checking in we were given the infamous “#IAMKiwanis Tshirt. While waiting till we were called backstage we had the opportunity to take pictures, meet the previous Kiwanis International President and meet many Kiwanians from all across the world from California to Taiwan! Once we were all called backstage we all selected a flag representing a nation present at the convention. Kiwanis is established in over 80 countries, so we definitely needed as much help as we could get for the flags so volunteers were asked from convention crowd. In a line of pairs over 60 Aktion members, Key clubbers, and Kiwanians were ready. We were set to go and we all lined up across the stage the national anthem played. It was definitely a challenge holding the flags due to the weight and the angle we had to hold them at. It was a feeling like no other as Kiwanians waved at us as we walked by and the flag ceremony ended. Having the opportunity to meet, interact, and bond with so many members of the K family was an unforgettable experience!

INTERNATIONAL C O N V E N T I O N Valley Aaron Pina

To say that international convention 2018 was ICONIC, is truly an understatement. Though we battled the humid weather of Chicago, and atrocities of elevator back ups, International convention was an impactful memory in every key clubbers life. Now I know what some may be thinking, “International convention? What is that? and to that I say you are in for a surprise. International convention is the one time of year that key clubbers from all over the world, spanning from Taiwan to New York, are able to come together to celebrate and reminisce on the accomplishments of the 2017-2018 term, reflecting on how we can improve for the next year, and to recognize those KEY members that went above and beyond in making an impact. Members from all over, also come together to learn how to improve the clubs they are apart of, as well as improve themselves, in the variety of workshops available. Though that is only the surface, as this convention not only recognizes the past, but prepares for the future, as we elected the members of the 2018-2019 International Board, and ensured we are in the best hands possible for the future of this organization. Though, that was only the beginning of the ICON experience, as not only were we bonding with members of Key Clubs everywhere, but also those in our very own district, as we partook in the most fast paced and insightful tour of historical, and modern day Chicago, and all of its breathtaking skyscrapers, museums, and deep dish pizza! We as the California-Nevada-Hawaii District were able to make memories, friendships, and connections that would last a lifetime, while also developing ourselves as leaders, to ensure that we may serve our homes, schools, and communities to the best of our abilities. Now to say that every key clubber should attend does not fully encompass the importance of every and all key clubber attending this convention. This convention is the opportunity of a lifetime, and with this I say, see you next year at Key Club International Convention in Baltimore.
