What’s poppin’ Pandas! With the new school year just beginning, and everyone joining Key Club, I figured I could provide you with some basic facts to help you break down all this exciting information! Allow me to ask you this one question— Do you know what to say when someone asks, “What is Key Club?” If not, it is completely okay, that is what we are here for! We the Division Leadership Team (DLT) as well as your fellow officers and members are YOUR Ohana! The quote, “Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.” is one of my favorite and probably yours, but it is mine because it symbolizes how once a familial bond is created, it can only be strengthen from there and never broken. Let’s talk about the proper ways to address, abbreviate, and advertise Key Club. The proper way to address it would be, “Key Club International”, ways to abbreviate it would properly be “KCI”. Our motto is “Caring—Our Way of Life.” If anyone asks you what this motto means, you can go more in depth by explaining what our Four Core Values are: Leadership, Character Building, Inclusiveness, and Caring! These are just a few ways to help get the word out there to join Key Club! We are the World’s oldest and largest student-led service organization for high school students! That’s right, student-led! Our International Council Officers are all high school students! In order to break down the line of order, it goes like this: Club level, Division level, District level, and International level! There are currently 38 Districts, 100+ Regions, and roughly 250+ Divisions international wise! 78 which of them can be found here in our own District!

The Las Vegas Valley is Region 5 and we are split into 4 Divisions; Divisions 28 North, South, East, and West. We are Division 28 East, and can be found in the Cal-Nev-Ha District. Our District is a special one, reasons being are because we are the largest District amongst the 37 others as well as, the very first Key Club was established in this District! Like I had said before, we are Region 5, Division 28 East and we are established in the California-Nevada-Hawaii District. We have 10 schools in our division and we are led by our Lt. Governor or LTG, Estefany Merino! She is what you would call the, “Commander-in-Chief” for our Division; assisted by the Division Leadership Team to which she appoints who she feels would best serve Division 28 East! Lt. Governor Estefany Merino holds monthly Division Council Meetings (DCM) at each school and each club is invited and encouraged to attend. At these DCM’s, she will present new business and what to look out for in future months as well as recapping past events and giving reminders about future events. Lt. Governor Estefany as well as the other 3 Lt. Governors and Region Advisor, Mrs. Hanna Santee, collaborate to put together our annual Region 5 Training Conference! At this Conference, members across the entire Region gather to participate in service workshops, expand their knowledge about Key Club International, and participate in spirit cheer battles! Towards the end of this conference, members, officers, and LTGs gather on the dance floor to show their groovy moves in the end of the night dance!

AUGUST JOINT DCM Valley | Estefany Merino The August DCM was one to remember and in joint with division 28 east, south, west, and north hosted at Valley High School on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. With a focus on fundraising for the Children Miracle Network and an educational spotlight on Member Recruitment. Although we encountered a few problems while setting up, with the help of others we quickly overcame it. Once the DCM began we played “soulmate” afterwards and separated into divisions for our DCM. Members in attendance where updated on upcoming deadlines and events. The member recruitment presentation went well and presented by the 28’s LTG and we provided tips on first general meetings, socials, and communication. With two hours left we began the SUMMER CINEMA portion of the DCM and played Rio snacks such as popcorn, boba, and chocolate bars where open to sale with profits going to the CMN organization. It was a great experience and I had a chance to continue to interact with the members within the division I serve!
