Greetings from Canyon Springs Key Club ! A Day at Ronald McDonald House By Norma Palma On June 26, our e-board participated at the Ronald McDonald House and it became my favorite service event. We began the evening by preparing dinner for the families. All of us working at once to execute the best possible meal. We prepared baked chicken wings, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese and for dessert ice cream and brownies. It was quite a challenge, and most of us were insecure that the families wouldn’t like what we had prepared for them. But during dinner it was the best thing seeing all the families’ heartwarming smiles and the immense amount of gratitude they showed towards us. We received the sweetest thank you’s. And by the end we all felt happy that the guests had enjoyed it as much as they did. We even had fun cleaning up the kitchen and watching as the children made popcorn and got ready for their movie night. By the end of the day we were all glad we came and decide to participate in the event and we even made plans to return.

Dinner At the Ronald Mcdonald House By Gaby Soto The Canyon Springs Key Club spent an evening cooking for the Ronald McDonald House. It was a day we had been waiting for with lots of planning. We were ecstatic when the day finally came, our first service project of the summer. We were all busy bees in the kitchen trying to prepare dinner. As we thawed out the chicken we made the mac & cheese, mashed potatoes and brownies. Brownie expert, Jaylene Tiscareno, made sure the recipe was followed to a T to assure the brownies were nothing less than delicious. The chicken wings were put into the oven, and then came the waiting game.

Planning for the New Year by Justine Centeno Our club has reached the point of planning for the upcoming key club year. It's overwhelming just thinking about what needs to be done and what our board plans to accomplish, but it is all very exciting. In addition, we have many goals for this year's RTC! The first months will be very challenging, because we are hosting a DCM followed by RTC then Fall Rally. I fear that service projects will lessen to accommodate with these events. .

Fortunately, I am lucky to be partnered with awesome e-board members in planning for the upcoming months. During our last meeting, we created our club shirt design for the year! We talked about service projects, planned future meetings, and, most excitingly, came up with one cheer for RTC! Though the upcoming months will pose many tasks for us to accomplish, it assures me that this school year will be eventful for our club and *cross fingers* be best year in key club yet. I’d like to Recognize by Gema Plancarte I am extremely proud of everyone on our e-board team because we all work hard, and plain out many amazing things. They motivate me to do the same by finding fun service events that our entire club can enjoy. Everyone keeps each other on task and fulfill; their duties, but I'm especially proud of our public affairs officer, Manicka. She is our first PA to create a newsletter, I may not know much, but I know its no walk in the park. There are many reasons why she has made me so proud. When we received our positions earlier in the year, old board taught us everything we needed to know in order to fulfill our positions fully but nobody in the history of canyon springs e-board had ever created a newsletter until this year. I can only imagine how hard it must have been. Her newsletters always come out beautiful and well done. I can honestly say I cant wait to see what else she has in store for us.

Lending A Helping Hand By Manicka Coleman On the 26 of June my clubs E board members and I prepared a nutritious and delicious meal of backed chicken wings with the sides of macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and salad. It as a fun experience, usually for volunteer work we help with things but this time it was solely us that were in charge of things. It felt good to be able to decide exactly what we want to make and how we wanted to make it. The best part was the thank you’s and the smiles we received as gratitude for our food. It was different to sit around and eat and talk during volunteer even. It was a fun and different experience that I hope I will get to experience.

Amazing Experiences by Jaylene Tiscareno Being in Key Club is hands down one of the greatest experiences. You get to meet a lot of different people and leaders. It helps you improve your character and really grow as a person. Personally for me I have been able to grow out of my shell a little bit more and work on talking in front of groups of people. It test my limits on how far I will go to really put myself out there Recently some of us got the opportunity to make dinner for the Ronald McDonald House and I can honestly say that is a moment I will never forget. To me it was really an amazing experience to be able to help those people that lived there and give them a good meal. I can't wait until we can go there again. Moments like that inspires me to always find ways to help my community and I encourage many others to do the same.
