EDITOR'S NOTE Hey Llamas!! Welcome back to the new edition of the Llama Legends! I hope school is going well for you!

Throughout the term, I want to make my newsletters based on the wonders of nature because the world is beautiful in its natural state. This month's theme is paths/trails because fall is here and it's the season of falling leaves. Have you ever walked on paths covered with various colored leaves? It's truly calming and breathtaking :) It's getting chillier now so be sure to dress in layers!

October also means our annual FRN is coming close :0 Attending FRN made me interested in Key Club and here I am now :) I'm sad that it will be my last year going but I believe it will be just as good as the ones before :D

As always, feedback will be greatly appreciated! Feel free to contact me trough email, FB, or IG :)

See you in the next issue!

CLUB

RUSH!

By: Meilin Beloney, Alameda The month of August was a time of preparation – for Key Club. Members and officers of Alameda Key Club gathered together to help recruit new members for the coming school year. At our school’s Link Day, a day for freshmen to explore the school, we were able to set up a table with informational pamphlets and posters. Key Clubbers decked out in spirit gear and performed cheers, and by the end of the day we had two pages of sign-ups. At freshman orientation, we set up another table with colorful posters. Through these two days, we were able to recruit many new freshmen and educate them about Key Club. Additionally, Key Clubbers helped San Leandro Key Club promote Key Club at their Pirates Day. All in all, the month of August was full of promotion and recruitment, and we look forward to our upcoming first meeting.

SHARETEA CLUB

FUNDRAISER RUSH

&

WEEK

By: Alexandra Reyes, Arroyo In the month of August, Arroyo Key Club had a total of four events and one fundraiser. With school starting on August 21st, we held a ShareTea fundraiser on August 20th. This fundraiser was a great way to come hang out with friends on the last day of summer while enjoying boba. With this fundraiser, we would buy a drink and put our receipts in our key club box. At the end of the day, depending on how many receipts we got in the box, we were given a percentage from the total amount of all the receipts. The total, we raised, without being given a percentage yet was 279.76 dollars. Many Arroyo students came out and bonded with each other. Not only students but our board came out to help support as well. Overall, this fundraiser gave a great way for key clubbers to enjoy their last bit of summer with friends before school starting with delicious boba and drinks. This fundraiser came out to be a success. With school starting, this means club rush week. Club rush week is the week where clubs have a table set up at the quad during lunch to inform students on what their club is about. This is when students are given the chance to sign up and join different clubs. Arroyo’s club rush week is from September 10-12. To make key club stand out and attract students to join, we made many decorations and a trifold showing what key club is about. Our board had two decorative days to work on posters, clothespins, a wheel, and trifold. Split up into two days, our board stayed after school to work. Not only did we just work but this time gave our board the chance to get to know each other better and bond as a board. After finishing all our decorations, we know we can’t wait to get students to join and inform them on what key club is about during club rush week!

ADRENALINE

RUSH

By: Jane Chang, Castro Valley It was that time of year again: Club Rush! Castro Valley Key Club’s officer board had been preparing for this day since the beginning of the school year. The officer board had been working hard on making trifolds, posters, and promotional flyers the week before. We were able to get out of class early to help set up our table in the Quad. I was a little nervous from seeing all the other clubs and thinking about making good first impressions on Freshmen. When the bell rang to signify the beginning of lunch, I started to feel the adrenaline kick in and hurriedly went over all the tips I got for a successful club day in my head. At first, I was a bit timid and scared of talking to people but I remembered how I felt as a Freshman on club day. Keeping that in mind, I tried talking to as many people as I could about my Key Club moments and all the memorable things we do. Seeing all the people sign up made me proud of my fellow officers and myself for promoting the home we love so much.

HELPING

OUT

THOSE

IN

NEED

By: Lam Tran, LPS We went to Bethel Presbyterian Church in San Leandro in order to help with their weekly food bank. Every Thursday, the church gives large amounts of food to people in need. We began the day volunteering with unpackaging the many various cans and other items to put out for those we would be serving. After setting out the food, we were given the task of handing out bags of fruit to those who want it. There were a lot of people who came to get food from the church and there was also many food items to give out. As the day went on, we became happy knowing that we are able to support the people who are struggling and need help. After distributing the food, we cleaned up for a little bit and headed home. We plan on continuing to volunteer at their weekly food bank and we were glad to be apart of this event. Overall, it was an amazing experience.

CLUB

RUSH!

By: Melanie Siu, KIPP King In the month of August, we finally had our school Club Rush! We pulled out our informational tri-fold and sign up sheets to set up our sign up booth. We also walked around with our custom made social media frame, posters, signs, and yelled our heart outs: “Join Key Club!” Not only that, but we had so many unfamiliar faces come up to us, interested about what Key Club’s all about. The feeling of having so many new faces come up to us, asking about Key Club, made my whole day. We are so happy to gain 100+ new and returning members, and we are so excited to expand our KIPP King Key Club family. Every member make up the Lllamacy, and we are so thrilled to see the new heights they will help bring the club to. Every member is valuable to us and gaining so many gave us so much happiness and satisfaction. Club Rush was such an amazing opportunity to expand our family and just brought so much more interest in others to serve their community and make the world a better place.
