Hey Llamas, DCON is approaching soon, so please reach out to your President if you would like to attend! We will have having lot's of workshops, food, recognition, fun, and meeting new people. It's definitely a memorable experience that could be your Key Club Moment, so it's worth it to go! Don't forget to come to our very last DCM together at Cherry Grove Park. It will be hosted by San Leandro and we will be making kits for the homeless. Thanks for reading this edition of the Llama Legends, see you next month! With a Spark for Service, Vivian Luong Division 2 South Lieutenant Governor
Hello Llamas! I am utterly shocked that it is already March! I can not believe that the end of the term is already so close! I hope no one is burning out from all their hard work this term :) This newsletter is inspired by how March marks the brink of the Spring season. I included some nature-related elements and many shades of green. Thank you for reading! As always, if you have any comments or suggestions, then please let me know! Q: What is your favorite aspect of Key Club? A: Meeting new people and getting to volunteer in the community that I value and live in. What I also love about Key Club is that it allows me to be active in the weekends and allows me to spend time with other key club members that I never met or have met. To me, I feel that volunteering within the community allows me to digress from my hardships and struggles, and I truly cherish this connection because it keeps me motivated and invigorated. My community is my optimism. Q: What kind of service events do you like to attend? A:Â Service events that I like to attend are those that allow you to interact with other people and not just key club members and volunteerers. For example, food bank, advertising, etc. Q: What is your favorite Key Club memory? A: My favorite key club memory is definitely not riding the medusa in six flags, but when I was in foodbank and this lady complimented me that I'm a natural when I was doing "shopping" and the time when I started to smile confidently, awkward at first though, while passing out fliers for some band concerts to strangers and the gift of receiving that smile back is probably one of my most favorite memory.

slow but steady progress As a happy surprise, Stanton Elementary decided that they would continue their after-school program for a little longer. Volunteers that had previously gained experience from past weeks of tutoring were more than happy to go help out again, and this time, with some new students. It has been exciting to see the progress of the kids every week and hear the thankful remarks from staff members when they see us. The opportunity to watch kids grow and to form bonds with them is rewarding and satisfying. Not only do the kids grow, but I also feel myself getting more comfortable explaining things to kids in simpler terms and keeping them on track. Through this experience, I gained more respect for teachers and became more inspired to be a good role model for these children.

chili cook-off To kick off 2019, Kiwanis hosted their 20th annual chili cookoff. The event took place at the O’ Club in Alameda. It was a fun night of mingling and chili. The event was so big that the Alameda and Encinal Key Clubs helped. The Encinal Club took the front and handled drink tickets and handing out drinks. We also helped clean tables and move things. The Alameda Club didn’t spend much time up front, they handled the main hall and back rooms.
