Happy October, Llamas! I can't wait to see all you amazing Lavender Llamas at Fall Rally North 2018! To prepare, please make sure you're decked out in Lavender Gear, memorized our two rally cheers, appreciation cheers, and the How Do You Feel cheer + Remix. You can also grab a super cute overlay if you email d02s.cnhkc.dne@gmail.com your name, position, school, and picture! I do hope you all learned lots at the UC Berkeley Circle K Key to College event! This event personally inspired me to join Circle K in college, and I do hope all the seniors and underclassmen learned a lot about the college application process and the options out there. FRN was my very first Key Club Moment. The feeling of being part of a huge family that were all passionate for the same thing- service- was such an inspirational moment. I met an amazing group of friends that spanned 6 cities, and I got to see them at every DCM and Division event afterwards. That year, we also won the spirit stick, so I fully expect us to try our very hardest to get that spirit stick! FRN is definitely a moment where when you're experiencing it, you know you'll miss it when it's over. I urge you all to go outside of your bubble, meet people from all over NorCal from different Divisions, participate in spirit battles, respond to the How Do You Feel cheer, take lot's of pictures, and have fun riding roller coasters! I hope the spirit, the energy, and the extreme love and inclusiveness we have for Key Club reaches you and inspires you ten-fold to serve for the rest of your high school career. Thank you for reading this edition of the Llama Legends. See you all next month! With a Spark for Service, Vivian Luong Division 2 South Lieutenant Governor ISSUE 1.5 | PAGE 04

division news editor HI LLAMAS! It's finally OCTOBER, and that means... FALL RALLY NORTH! I truly hope you all get to attend this spectacular event. Like many other Key Clubbers, FRN was my Key Club Moment and it was a M A J O R factor in my decision to become more involved in this organization. My first FRN was back when I was a freshman. Although I was incredibly quiet and awkward, feeling the endless spirit and passion at the rally and seeing so much dedication in members all around Northern California encouraged me to to step way outside of my comfort zone. I highly encourage you to attend, as this event is highly worthwhile. If you are going, I hope you remember to bring your spirit and memorize those cheers! This is our first year as Division 2 South, so we should definitely strive to start off our legacy(or "LLAMACY") strong by winning that spirit stick!
This edition of the Llama Legends is merely meant to reflect our lavender llama spirit with the shades of purple throughout. In addition, my inspiration for the design and layout stemmed from a bunch of bullet journal artwork I have come across.
I hope you enjoy reading about all of our updates, our Members and Officers of the Month, and, of course, all of our clubs' service events in this installment.
Sincerely, Vy Truong Division 2 South News Editor

- UNICEF - trick or treat what is Maternal Neonatal Tetanus? Every 15 minutes, a newborn baby dies from tetanus. That short lifetime is marked by pain—with an extreme sensitivity to light, sound, or contact. In 2010, the Kiwanis family partnered with UNICEF to eliminate MNT through The Eliminate Project. Since then, we've raised over $82 million and helped eliminate MNT in 25 countries. Every year, 24,000 more babies are born unaffected and millions of mothers have been vaccinated. It only costs $1.80 to save a their lives. But the fight is not over. Mothers and babies in 14 countries are still at risk of this deadly, preventable disease.
how can you participate? Spread the word! You and your club can help us finish the fight to eliminate MNT. This Halloween, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF to save and protect lives. Try to encourage others to participate and get a box. Advertise the boxes and get your friends to donate!

club report August has been filled with community service events for Alameda! To start the month off, we advertised our club at Link Day at our school and recruited new members during Freshman Orientation and Sophomore Orientation. We also helped at the City Horse Kids Carnival and did lots of fun things like guide horses and run games! As per usual, we ask helped at the Cohen Bray House and picked up trash during Pick It Up. We also helped at the DWS Color Run! Alameda went to the Food Pantry and helped sort things like fruits and vegetables for those in need. We even had multiple fundraisers throughout the month at places like iTea in San Leandro, Tuttimelon and Red Onion! Overall we had a strong month and we hope to continue with our success.

meals on wheels On Saturday, August 18, Arroyo officers and advisor volunteered at Meals on Wheels and prepared over 1,500 meals for seniors. Each volunteer had a different task for the first activity. Some of them wiped excess food off the side of the food containers with paper towels, so others could put them in the packaging machine to cover up the food container. Later, several volunteers placed labels on them. The labels contained the ingredients of the meal and nutrition facts. Others stacked the meals into piles of ten and placed them on a tray. They also scooped vegetables and meat next to the rice. However, for the next activity, they packed tortillas by folding them into fourths, putting each in a little baggie, and later packaging them with a little packaging device.

club day On September fifth, officers and club members alike came out to CVHS’s quad to support Key Club on Club Day! The energy was high in the quad with other competitive clubs trying to recruit new members but we were glad to see incoming freshmen, old members, and new members of other classes sign up as well. It felt like FRN but without the cheers because our officers were extremely enthusiastic and hyped about promoting. I felt nervous at first about having to reach out to strangers and talk about our club but soon enough, I was also screaming at the top of my lungs to “JOIN KEY CLUB!”. I really hope that our first meeting will be one with many new faces, and a memorable one that makes members feel welcomed and encouraged to build leadership skills and make new friends. With our four core values, officers will try their hardest to incorporate them in the new school year.

ehs club week It’s the start of a brand-new school year and the perfect time for new club members. Encinal’s club week is the second week of September, so our Key Club stayed late after school to create posters to promote Key Club. We worked on all kinds of posters and put them up around the school. We also used this time to have fun and do a little bit of officer bonding. Hopefully these posters will attract new members to our small club.

butterfly clean up For the month of August, San Leandro Key Club took part in cleaning up our Kiwanis Garden located in front of the San Leandro Bart Station. Here, volunteers set out fresh mulch and fixed up other plants in the area. This garden is very important to upkeep due to the fact that it attracts monarch butterflies to the area during their migration. The work was a bit tough considering the hot weather, but the end result was what made it worth it; our garden was in tip top shape again!
