ltg's welcome

What's Poppin' 2 South! Can you believe that we are officially half-way through the term? Time flies by really fast and it feels like it was just yesterday when we all spent the first DCM of our term together! I hope you all had a successful member recruitment and if you are new around here, hey! My name is Jarlene and I proudly serve YOU as your Lt. Governor for the 2020-2021 term! If you don't know what that means it's okay because I'm basically here to help you have the best Key Club experience you can have while serving our homes, schools, and community! Like always, please remember to take care of yourself! As we spend more time trying to complete our goals, meet deadlines, and such, please don't forget to put yourself before anything else. Try to find a healthy balance between Key Club work, school work and relax time to ensure that you are functioning in your best condition. I'll always be here to support you so just text, call, dm or even email me whenever you need me! I am so excited to see what we could create with the final half of our term. It's going to be hard and stressful but in the end, we'll get to make some unforgettable memories worth remembering! 2 South, you all have shined the brightest in the past few months and I am so proud of how much each of you has grown and accomplished! This concludes my note for you all, happy reading and I hope you enjoy this month's division newsletter! Thank you for all that you do and never forget that it is always a good day to serve others! Let your LIGHT shine, Jarlene Clavido Division 2 South Lieutenant Governor 2020-2021

editor's note

Hello Lavendar Llamas! It's already October, it seems like the term just started yesterday. For some clubs, Club Rush has already been held, I hope everyone had a great Club Rush despite it being virtual. If you are new, hello, I'm Claire Liang and I'm the News Editor for this term. I'm the one responsible with making newsletters and providing resources for you all. Welcome to Key Club, I hope you see positive light in this organization as I did and make a difference in your community. Anyway, now that it is October, it's getting to the really busy part of the year. As always, make sure you are able to balance Key Club, school, and personal life in a professional manner and continue to be productive throughout this semester. Through distance learning, it seems like everyday is the same and the lack of motivation is seeping through more and more each day but I guarantee you that this isn't forever and you'll make it through better than ever. As for my seniors, hang in there! This semester may be the most important to maximize your focus and productivity, don't let all your hard work go to waste. And even things are looking mighty grim now, it will all be okay. As the cliche saying goes, "there is light at the end of the tunnel." This pandemic will end soon enough and life as we knew before will go back to normal. Always make sure to take care of yourself and don't give up! Thank you for being the beacon of light for so many people in your life, it'll all be worth it in the end, see you next month! With a Passion to Serve, Claire Liang Division 2 South News Editor 2020-2021

members of Ashton Nguyen

Alameda Ashton has been an active member in our community even since COVID-19. Given our circumstances, he has continued going to division events such as the DWS and DCM. He has earned a total of 50 hours, more than some of our officers. He has been keeping in contact with our board members by asking questions pertaining to division events and going to general club meetings. I believe Ashton has contributed to our club by being an active member who has only spread positivity.

Kenneth Xu

Arroyo We chose Kenneth to be our August member of the month because he has been active in participating in events and was one of the members this month to receive the highest amount of hours.

Sammy Li

Kipp King Sammi has come to so many of our events despite them being early. . Even though its early she is always eager to do service and meet new people

Issue 3.5 | Page 14

f the month Briana Beltran

LPS Hayward In the month of August, Briana has done several hours of Charity Miles amidst the pandemic. The hours she spent walking around her neighborhood greatly benefits people in need, and why she is our pick for member of the month.

Kai Suwandi

San Leandro We chose Kai Suwandi because of his determination and consistency in San Leandro Key Club. He has been doing a lot of service and has been attending the service events even though they are just online. One of the service events that Kai has done in the past month is Charity Miles. He was also able to attend the DCM hosted by San Leandro. He helped uplift the mood throughout the event and was hella active from start to end. Overall, Kai Suwandi has really shown his passion in service and spirit this month.

Annabella Del Rosario

San Lorenzo Annabella Del Rosario was chosen to be San Lorenzo Key Club's Member of the Month because of her dedication and participation. She attended various events, both club and division events, took part in Service Week, and pushed herself to be active. When volunteering, she is always happy and passionate about it, which should be something to be recognized for.

officers of Valentina Phung

Alameda Valentina has gone above and beyond this month, constantly reaching out to her board and making sure they don’t need help. She makes sure everyone is on task and understands what they are responsible for. She also makes herself available when others ask her for help and provides information to lost members. She also never fails to bring new ideas to our board meetings and is always looking for new ways to help make Key Club more enjoyable for our members.

Ally Reyes

Arroyo We chose Ally to be our club's officer of the month because she has been on top of all her tasks like submitting forms on time. She also has been active in participating service events.

Michelle Ma

Kipp King She is the OoM because she has worked hard to find more events for our club! She makes sure there's at least a new event every month and comes up with great ideas. Issue 3.5 | Page 16

f the month Van Trinh

LPS Hayward Van's constant attendance/participation at DWS events, interclubs, and our club's service events has helped her reach over 50 total service hours this month. Her service doesn't stop there however, as she's done the most hours during Service Week than any other member in our club! She's seen lots of improvement in her involvement in Key Club and proves time and time again that she is more than willing to help bring our club to new heights.

Lauren Nguyen

San Leandro We chose Lauren Nguyen because we saw how much she’s trying her best to build a better relationship with the San Leandro officers and members. She also hosted the San Leandro DCM, she wrote the script and didn’t fail to make the whole event fun. Lauren is a really hardworking officer and she bring a lot of positive energy in our club.

Fiona Chen

San Lorenzo Fiona Chen was chosen as San Lorenzo Key Club's Officer of the Month because she has been very active by going to division events, such as the the DCM and DWS, has attended other clubs' events, took part in Service Week, promotes Key Club events, and very passionate about volunteering. She planned various events for our club in August and is always pushing herself to improve and participate more. Fiona is very creative and resourceful, and is always eager to get into action and serve her community!

Bean Bean Bean!

BY: FRANKLIN LUI, KIPP KING In the month of August, Kipp King participated in BeanBeanBean. BeanBeanBean is a website where you take quizzes in the topics of “What Is This?, Times Tables, English Vocab, and more”, to earn money for world hunger. With taking those quizzes you earn “Beans”. The beans are a connected amount of money that is raised for donations. The donations are donated to charities such as Northern California Fire Relief and Feeding America. This is a great website because it takes no cost from you and gives money to charities for free. You just need to take the quizzes. Issue 3.5 | Page 21

August Submission

BY: ARIYAN RAYAN, LPS HAYWARD For August, LPS Key Club was able to host five events, 1 of which was a continuation of the prior month's events. The event was a Charity mile in which every mile a club member ran, walked, or biked would equal one service hour. The event was able to raise a total of 29.5 hours between five members. The second event was a renewal of the free rice event LPSKC did in the prior month, where members could help end world hunger by answering questions, and this event was able to raise 40 hours between 7 people. The other three events that the club had were all interclub events where LPS Key club was able to interact with other clubs such as San Leandro Key Club, Kipp King Key Club, and Castro Valley Key Club, and collectively, between all three events, LPSKC was able to raise twenty-eight hours. Between all three events, LPS had 19 people participate. The three events were interclub events that LPSKC had was a video for a senior home, a color a smile event, and a club bonding art and crafts event. Issue 3.5 | Page 22

Llamas on the Go

BY: ANDREI COROCOTO This event was a huge success raising more than $300 in donation. Sadly we were unable to host the event in person but we managed to still get the job done and have lots of fun in the process. Many members and non-members attended the events and participated a lot. The picture above shows the officers getting bidded for this event. Issue 3.5 | Page 23

Quizzes for a Cause

BY: RUTH MONTES, SAN LORENZO This month of August we continued to host our service events at home while continuing to social distance. This month we hosted a Digital Quizzical event with Castro Valley Key club where we played Unicef’s Math For good Challenge along with the Freerice challenge. This event allowed our club members to get to know members from Castro Valley Key Club all while having fun and raising money for a good cause. Through our digital quizzical event, we were able to raise $1,229.50 for various different charities! Overall this event was a huge success and we were happy to see our members get involved along with members of Castro Valley Key Club! Issue 3.5 | Page 24
