MWINILUNGA RIOT WHAT is happening in Mwinilunga is unacceptable and calls for a full scale investigation into the conduct of Zambia Police officers. Yesterday, Mwinilunga residents rioted in protest against the conduct of police officers they accused of conniving with foreigners to carry out illegal gold mining operations in the Kasenseli gold area. The police were brought to the area by the government last year to protect the precious mineral from being mined illegally by foreigners who had invaded the area. But to the chagrin of the local residents, the foreigners have continued to carry out their illegal activities with “protection” from some police officers. It is not surprising that the local residents chose to riot so as to show their displeasure over the conduct of the police officers. Mwinilunga District Commissioner Arnot Mapulanga said the residents started the riot early in the morning of yesterday to show their displeasure over the unprofessional conduct of police officers. Mr Mapulanga said the residents are not pleased with the illegal dealings which the police have engaged in despite being mandated to guard the Kasenseli gold area. Yesterday’s riot was something that must have been brewing over a long time for this is not the first time that police officers have been accused of conniving with foreigners to mine gold illegally. In what appears to be a preamble to the riot. residents nabbed some foreigners on Saturday who have been carrying out illegal gold mining at Kasenseli who Mr Mapulanga said on Sunday would soon appear in court. Mr Mapulanga added, however, that police officers who were conniving with the foreign nationals had fled the scene. According to Mr Mapulanga, the foreigners were apprehended on Saturday by some residents who were alerted of illegal activities which had been taking place at Kasenseli. It is quite clear that senior police officers must have been aware of the residents’ concerns and failed to act firmly to remove the rogue officers from the area. The inertia by the police top brass to take preventive action is what is robbing the country of valuable income from its mineral resources which are being mined by outsiders. As we have stated before, Government must ensure it takes stock of the country’s newly discovered gold fields and ensure that organized mining takes place. The country’s huge debt, though frightening, is something that could be settled by ensuring that gold mining for example is controlled. It is pleasing to hear though that illegal activities had reduced after the ZCCM-IH moved in and started mining activities, according to Mr Mapulanga. As Mr Mapulanga indicated, the illegality would come to an end because ZCCM-IH would soon be in all parts of the gold area. But even before ZCCM-IH is firmly established in the area, it is important that illegal miners do not find any safe haven in the area. And if police officers are easily corrupted, there are other defence wings that could easily be deployed – and examples are there to show that their presence has made a huge difference.

HE country will today start experiencing increased load shedding for five days as Zesco Limited commences the filling up of the dam reservoir at Kafue Gorge Lower Power Station (KGLPS) under construction. Zesco Corporate Affairs Manager, John Kaunda clarified that the prolonged load shedding is purely as a result
of impounding water in the KGLPS dam in readiness for the commissioning of the first 150 megawatts of power. Dr Kaunda confirmed in an interview that the country would today experience load shedding for many hours and it will reduce in the following days. “Today will have a stress system so we may experience disproportionate load shedding countrywide because we confirmed diversion of water to fill up the dam today, “The first day will be bad
but subsequent days will be between eight to 12 hours but it will be biased towards 12 hours of load shedding,” he said. Dr. Kaunda said the filling up of the dam would take five days and would require the diversion of water from the Kafue Gorge Upper Power Station to the dam reservoir. The process of filling up the dam reservoir would lead to reduced generation of power at Kafue Gorge Upper Power Station resulting in nationwide load shedding.
Provide adequate voter registration information, ECZ urged By KALOBWE BWALYA PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has urged the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to provide adequate information to the public regarding the voter registration exercise. President Lungu observed that there is lack of information regarding the voter registration exercise and people do not seem to know the programme. President Lungu said this after registering as a voter at Chawama Basic School in Lusaka yesterday, and urged the public to also register as voters. He said the public relations department at ECZ should
ensure that ordinary people have the programme regarding what was happening to avoid speculations. The president noted that due to lack of information, suspicion and mistrust always comes in because people are not fully informed and sensitised. Mr Lungu urged ECZ to ensure that the process was not delayed but strive to work within their time frame. The President later interacted with people who complained that the voter registration exercise process was too slow. ECZ has embarked on mobile voter registration exercise countrywide from December 9-12, 2020
ahead of the August 2021 general elections.
Expedite placement of `spies’ in mines - Musoma By SILUMESI MALUMO GOVERNMENT must expedite the process of placing experts in mining companies to ascertain and monitor minerals that are being exported, Zambia Republican Party president Wright Musoma has said. Mr Musoma said the move was the only way especially foreign owned mining companies would stop cheating the government. He was reacting to sentiments by Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development Permanent Secretary Barnaby Mulenga that Government would strategically place experts in all mining companies. This follows calls by a mining expert Edward Simukonda who proposed the need to come up with a plan to place spies in extractive companies to ascertain minerals in blisters extracted and exported. Mr Simukonda said this was because the country was losing billions through cheating. And Mr Mulenga said government was aware of what was happening and that was the reason for considering to come up with such a
programme. But Mr Musoma said it was important that the government expedited the process for the country to stop losing revenue. He said in an interview yesterday, the revenue which was being lost was supposed to be channeled in reviving the dwindling economy. He said, “As a country we need enough revenue for us to be out the challenges we
are facing right now, so it is important that measures are put in place to seal all the loopholes. “This time around we don’t need to allow investors to continue milking us through cheating. We need to be getting more revenue from our resources. The move by Government to place experts is very good and commendable but this process need to be done as soon as possible,” Mr Musoma said.

Get rid of Covid resources thieves MQHZ By NATION REPORTER THE Anti-Corruption Commission must act quickly against all individuals behind the abuse of funds donated to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, Medical for Quality Healthcare in Zambia (MQHZ) has said. MQHZ has also demanded that Government pays frontline workers in the Covid-19 fight their dues. MQHZ director general, Quince Mwabu said the reported abuse and misapplication of funds donated by various stakeholders towards the Covid-19 fight was very disappointing. “These sad revelations have come at a time when the Ministry of Health has failed to pay allowances to frontline workers. We demand that our hard working health workers fighting Corona virus be paid immediately, as promised to them by the Health Minister,” said Dr Mwabu. Dr Mwabu said because of the seriousness of the abuse of Covid-19 funds, there was need for quick action from ACC against all those behind this abuse. “We cannot manage to let people abuse office and public resources for their personal benefits when the health sector has monumental challenges,” he said. Dr Mwabu also demanded that all donations towards the fight against Covid-19 be accounted for to ensure cooperating partners have confidence in the Ministry of Health once again. He proposed that all those who would be found wanting must immediately be relieved of their duties.
Mwila preaches love, peace ahead of 2021 general elections PATRIOTIC Front Secretary-General Davies Mwila has observed that lack of love among Zambians had led to political violence witnessed in the recent past. And the Catholic Church has assured President Edgar Lungu's administration of continued partnership and support. Mr Mwila said there was a need for the church and all Zambians to preach love as the country nears the election year. He was speaking on Sunday at the priestly ordination ceremony by Rt. Rev. Benjamin Phiri, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ndola at St.
Anthony of Padua Parish in Ndola, Mr Mwila said the PF will continue working with the church and offer support as a party and Government, adding that the two were partners in development. And Bishop Phiri, Bishop echoed Mr Mwila's call for love. "I am happy that the PF SG is assuring us of his party's commitment to peace and love, justice and fair play and as a church, we will continue to pray for you as our leaders but you should also pray for yourselves," said a jovial Bishop Phiri.
Meanwhile, Fr. Ferena Lambe, Conventual Franciscan Minister Provincial for Zambia and Malawi also said the church believed in cooperation. Mr Mwila witnessed the ordination of Friar Evaristo J. POLICE IN GOLD SCAM …As Mwinilunga residents riot over unprofessional conduct From page 1 Mwinilunga District Commissioner, Arnot Mapulanga said the residents started the riot in the early morning of yesterday to show their displeasure over the unprofessional conduct of police officers. And when contacted, North-Western Commissioner of Police Elias Chushi’s phone went unanswered and when this reporter tried again by press time he switched of the phone. But Mr Mapulanga confirmed that the people in the area were not happy with how the officers were operating. He said in an interview that residents were upset that officers who were supposed to protect gold on behalf of the State were the ones stealing the mineral. Mr Mapulanga said residents want officers involved in illegality be dealt with according to the laws of Zambian. The District Commissioner said the angry residents were shocked that officers can be conniving with foreign nationals to steal gold. He said that after his intervention the situation came to normal and assured the residents that something would be done accordingly. On Sunday Mr Mapulanga in an interview told the Daily Nation that some police officers had been conniving with the foreign nationals to illegally mine the resource. He said that the said officers were on the run but a man hurt had been instituted in order to apprehend them. “These police officers involved in illegality are tarnishing the good name of the President and the government who employed them to guard the resource on behalf of this country,” he said.
Bill 10 will be revisited after 2021 - Lungu
By Prisca Lumingu-Banda
SOME provisions in the Constitution amendment bill 10 of 2019 will be revisited after 2021 elections as the Patriotic Front (PF) will have more numbers in parliament, President Edgar Lungu has said. President Lungu said it is unfortunate that bill 10 collapsed. The President said this when he was responding to concerns which were raised by the traditional leadership in Mumbwa after he met them yesterday. “For the issue of payments of chiefs, we will talk to the ministry of Finance. For those that are not getting paid because we don’t recognise them, this is where Bill10 comes in. It was intended to recognise positions so that we know if this chief dies who comes in, who succeeds who,” President Lungu said. He said at the moment there are situations where more than four people claim to be chiefs of the same chiefdom which had brought confusion. President Lungu said the law presently did not allow government to Gazette chiefs to recognise them in a certain way and government thought Bill10 was going to find space for that. “Bill10 collapsed but we desire to bring harmony amongst chiefs, and after 2021 I am sure when we have numbers in parliament will revisit some of the provisions in bill 10 and ensure that we find justice and regularity in terms of who is chief and who gets what. But for now it is just confusion,” he said And speaking earlier on behalf of six traditional leaders who were present, Chief
Mulendema of the Ila and Kaonde people of Mumbwa district said the traditional leadership was having challenges with transport for chiefs. Chief Mulendema also asked President Lungu to look into the issue of chiefs’ subsidies, palaces and power supply to the palaces. “Your excellency, we want you to look into the issue of chiefs subsidies. There are some irregularities, some chiefs are not receiving their subsidies,” he said. The traditional leader also complained about the non availability of an ambulance at Mumbwa district hospital and at rural health centres. And Senior Chief Shakumbila of the Sala and Ila people in Central Province pleaded with President Lungu to intervene in the issues of succession in his Chiefdom as his life was under threat. Senior Chief Shakumbila said he was living in fear as the Zambia police had failed to protect him from those who were planning to dethrone him. “People are after my life, those who lost from me when I was being chosen as a chief have refused to accept. They are still causing confusion and police are reluctant to protect me. I have reported the matter to the police but nothing is being done,” Senior Cheif Shakumbila said. And in response to the concerns which were raised by Senior Chief Shakumbila, President Lungu directed Central Province police commissioner Chola Katanga to immediately intervene before any life was lost. President Lungu said even though issues of succession were family matters, the law must be respected.

FARMERS ‘SELLING’ INPUTS TO MALAWI - MINISTER
farming inputs had been sealed. He said that, “After establishing the areas where farmers have been using to transport the farming inputs such as fertiliser we moved in to intensify security. Mr Sichone said it was revealed that farmers were tempted to sell the farming inputs to Malawi because the buyers were offering a good price. “This time around we have done all that we can to ensure that this illegality is stopped,” Mr Sichone said. He however said investigations were still continuing to identify individual farmers and cooperatives involved. Mr Sichone said the probe team want to ensure that all those involved were brought to book because what they were doing was a serious crime.

Mr Sichone said the team comprising provincial administration officers and the police had established that farmers were selling fertiliser to institutions in the neighbouring country. He said that the institutions involved would not be exposed to the public as it would jeorpardise the on-going investigations. Mr Sichone said in an interview that he was disappointed to learn that farmers could sell subsidised farming inputs in a neighbouring country because this would have a negative impact to the national food security come next year. However, he said all the loopholes which were used to illegally export the subsidised

THE fate of two Members of Parliament from the United Party for National Development (UPND) who voted for Bill 10 against an order of the party leadership is yet to be decided. UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma said the party has not yet made a decision on the fate of the two MPs. “On the issue regarding the two of our members of Parliament who voted, the party has not yet made any decision on their fate,” Mr Kakoma said. The two UPND MPs, Professor Geoffrey Lungwangwa of Nalikwanda Constituency and his Solwezi Central counterpart, Mr Teddy Kasonso defied the party position on Bill 10 and voted with the ruling Patriotic Front though the bill could not amass the required two-thirds threshold

IT IS sheer waste of time to continue debating President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility matter because it has already been settled by the courts of law, Justice Minister Given Lubinda has said. Mr Lubinda said President Lungu was eligible to contest 2021 election because arguments being presented by those against have already been addressed by the constitutional court ruling. “The topic of whether President Lungu is eligible to run in 2021 is irrelevant because the court already ruled on what constitutes a presidential term of office,” he said. “The period between 2015 and 2016 does not constitute a term of office therefore President Lungu is eligible to run,” Mr Lubinda said. Mr Lubinda however said the PF was ready to defend President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility in an event that his nominations are challenged. He said those against President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility to run in next year’s elections have no case because the issues they raised have been addressed in Concourt ruling of Danny Pule Vs the attorney general. “The issue of President Lungu’s eligibility is water under the bridge because the constitutional court but in event that his nomination is challenged, the Pf is ready to defend it,”Mr Lubinda said. OUTGOING US President Trump’s refusal to accept defeat in last week presidential election is an assault on democracy, Inter Africa Governance Network (AFRINET) Executive Director Maurice Malambo has said. Mr Malambo said the USA is perceived to be a model of democracy in the world over therefore Mr Trump’s refusal to accept defeat amid claims of rigging makes sad reading. He said the happenings in America entail that African countries should build their own model of democracy because they have their own challenges. Mr Malambo said Mr Trump’s refusal to concede defeat will have far reaching effects on good governance in Africa and other parts of the world. “Just like Americans have been preaching to African countries to respect the will of the people it was important, Mr Trump respects the results of the vote, his refusal will have far reaching effects on the country’s democratic credentials,” Mr Malambo said.

PAC president sues for K300, 000 refund H after failed contract
By GRACE CHAILELESOETSA
By GRACE CHAILE – LESOETSA
PEOPLE'S Allinace for Change (PAC) president Andyford Banda has sued a Lusaka business woman seeking a refund of over K300,000 paid to her after a cancelled contract of sale with respect to a subdivision of stand 2613/177 Livingstone. Mr Banda is also seeking interest there on, costs and any other relief the court may deem fit. In a statement of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court, Mr Banda sued Ms Bridget Zulu a registered owner of plot 2613/177 situated in Livingstone. Mr Banda stated that he and Ms Zulu entered into contract of sale on November 29 , 2019 and was sold subdivision of plot 2613/177 , comprising a semi detached housing unit at a consideration of K700, 000. Mr Banda stated that prior to the execution of the contract of sale between the parties, the defendant (Ms Zulu) borrowed monies from FINCA and had lodged the certificate of title with respect to plot 2613/177 with the said lending institution. According to the special conditions attached to the contract , Mr Banda was to pay the K700, 000 in installments. " The sum of K210, 000 to FINCA as part of settlement of the purchase price of the property sold to the plaintiff. The sum of K31.500.00 to be paid prior to execu-
tion of the contract of sale. The. Sum of K458, 500.00 to be paid in four equal instalments of K114, 625.00 commencing on 4th December 2019 and ending on 10th March 2020," he stated. Mr Banda said of the payment of K210, 000 due to FINCA, he paid K115,000 prior to execution of contracts leaving a balance of K95, 000. He also paid Ms Zulu K31, 500 towards the purchase price prior to execution of contract. He was however unable to settle K95, 000 to FINCA and the instalment of K114, 625 when it fell due. Mr Banda stated that on February 28, this year, he had paid Ms Zulu K278, 000 leaving a balance of K422, 000 of the purchase price. He said they agreed to vary the contract of sale by allowing him to settle the balance of the purchase price by payment of K50, 000 to Ms Zulu on February 28, this year. And also three payments each of K25, 000 to be settled on March 4, 6 and 15 , 2020. He was also required to pay the balance of K322, 000 to be paid in four equal instalments of K80, 500 commencing on March 15 and ending June 15, 2020. Mr Banda said it was a term of the revised agreement between the parties that Ms Zulu would ensure that she paid the full amount due to FINCA in order to unencumber the title deeds with respect to the property.

SUSPECTED GASSER’S KILLER JAILED 7 YEARS
He joined the crowd that had begun beating the man with kicks and fists. The police at Matero Police Station arrived at the scene and fired warning shots in the air to disperse the crowd and apprehended Sheleni as he was fleeing the scene. The victim was rushed to Matero Level One Hospital where he passed on as a result of the beatings. In mitigation by his lawyer from legal aid board Wina Vukovic, the convict said during the period he had been in incarceration, he has had ample time to reflect on his actions which contributed to a loss of a life. He added that this fact will haunt him for the rest of his life. In sentencing him yester-
day, Ms Justice Kombe said she had considered the mitigation and that Sheleni was a first offender who had readily admitted the charge of manslaughter and therefore deserved leniency from the court. She however, said the offence of manslaughter was a very serious one and that the maximum sentence provided for in the law was life imprisonment. Ms Justice Kombe noted that the victim died after Sheleni joined the mob in beating Maibwe using kicks and fists because he (Sheleni) just heard that the deceased was administering toxic substances (in residential areas). "Now this kind of behaviour or action where you decided to take the law into your own hands just because you sus-
pected the deceased to have committed an offence cannot be justified no matter what the circumstances were," she said. She said it was not up to members of the public to decide on the guilty of any wrong doer. Judge Kombe said if Sheleni had any reason to suspect that the deceased was involved in some criminal activities, his role as a member of the public was to apprehend him and hand him over to the police. She added that the mob action was inhumane, and that they should have allowed the due process of the law to take its course. She sentenced Sheleni to seven years imprisonment with hard labour with effect from date of arrest on March 30, 2020.

Mrs. Mizinga however bemoaned the lack of manpower to effectively curb the illegal sale of animals to the Congolese.
IGH Court Judge Mwila Kombe has sentenced a man of Matero Township to seven years imprisonment with hard labour for causing the death of a suspected gasser earlier this year. Christopher Sheleni, 25, was charged with manslaughter and he pleaded guilty. Sheleni joined a mob in the lynching of Emmanuel Maibwe. He was last Thursday convicted of the same charge in the Lusaka High Court by Ms Justice Kombe. Facts in this matter were that on February 16, this year, Sheleni was at his house in Matero Township of Lusaka when he heard a crowd of people making noise outside. The crowd was chanting that they had caught a person (deceased) who was administering toxic substances in residential area commonly called a gasser. It was then that Sheleni went and joined the mob that had gathered near Hillside ground and had surrounded Maibwe.

AIROBI - Kenya’s debt stock is expected to hit Sh7.5 trillion by June 2021, according to projections by the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO). The office warns that given the current and projected expenditure demands, Kenya’s debt stock could reach Sh9.2 trillion in the 2022/23 financial year. The projected increase this year, which is Sh873 billion or 15 percent above the national debt of Sh6.6 trillion as at June 2020, is largely attributed to the impact of low generation of domestic revenue and pressure from expenditure on the ongoing capital projects. In the previous financial years, the figure has grown on the account of significant expenditure on infrastructure projects, energy production as well as social expenditures. “The impact of Covid-19 on the economy is expected to adversely affect revenue generation especially for the 2020/21 financial year,” the report says. With the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, it means that the government will borrow more from the domestic market, a move that will see the SMEs priced out of the market. According to the budget office, debt servicing expenditures are estimated to utilise up to 49 percent of ordinary

revenues in the current financial year. “This implies that at best, only approximately 51 percent of nationally raised revenues will be available for the 2020/21 budget implementation,” PBO says. In the current financial year, the government plans to spend Sh3.2 trillion, a revision of the Sh2.79 trillion that was read in June during the presentation of the national government estimates by National Treasury
Zesa starts clearing coal producers’ $1.2bn debt HARARE - State-owned power utility, Zesa Holdings, has started paying coal miners after the debt ballooned to over $1.2 billion over the past few months. The surging debt was beginning to affect coal supplies to Zesa’s major thermal power stations, including Hwange, with the suppliers indicating seriously incapacitation. Zesa experienced a severe deterioration in cash flows between March and September this year. This was largely due to a sub economic tariff, which had not been adjusted upwards in line with inflation and exchange rate as the Government sought to cushion citizens from the devastating effects of Covid-19 induced lockdown. Government imposed the lockdown at the end of March this year as part of measures to combat the global pandemic. Last week, Zesa increased its tariffs by 50 percent. The first 50 units are now being charged at a base tariff of $1.67 per kWh from $1.11.
The next 150 units now cost $3.65 per kWh, up from $2.43. From 201-300 units, consumers are now charged $9.92 per kWh, an increase of $6.62. Units above 300 will now attract a rate of $15.57, an increase from $10.38. Early this year, ZESA added a new band - 201-300 units, which gives a total of 300 subsidised units from 200. The staggered upwards adjustment of the tariff since September, has resulted in improved cash flows, with coal miners confirming the power utility had started making payments. “There is an improvement in terms of payments . . . It is encouraging,” Coal Producers Association president Mr Raymond Mutokonyi, said in an interview. Acting managing director of Zimbabwe Power Company, Zesa’s unit responsible for production of electricity, Wellington Maphosa, confirmed that they had started paying the miners. – THE HERALD, Zimbabwe
Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani. Given that the current public finance management framework has capped the national debt stock at Sh9 trillion, at the current borrowing rate, it is anticipated that there will be little borrowing space in the next three years. Implementation of this year’s budget should therefore be critical by taking into consideration financial and information requirements for a successful medium term fiscal
policy implementation, says the report. “There is also the need to utilise debt and revenue resources for initiatives that maximise positive impact on private and public investment,” it adds. PBO also notes that 2020/21 will present difficult economic conditions for fiscal consolidation measures required to maintain debt at sustainable levels. This includes reduced economic activity, subdued current account balance and slowdown in revenue generation is likely to adversely affect fiscal consolidation efforts. The magnitude of the economic stimulus to be undertaken to lift the economy is likely to require significant financing beyond what has already been provided for in the budget. Under these circumstances, it is difficult to implement fiscal consolidation measures. – DAILY NATION, Kenya.
JOHANNESBURG President Cyril Ramaphosa must provide details for how his plan to reboot an economy battered by the coronavirus through increased spending on infrastructure would be financed, former President Thabo Mbeki said. Ramaphosa’s economic plan, anchored around boosting spending on projects and investing in new energy generation projects, doesn’t provide details on how it is going to be financed, Mbeki said in an article published in the Sunday Times. The programme launched last month risks being a "mere vision until resources are made available to enable their implementation," according to Mbeki, under whose nine years in office the South African economy had its longest period of expansion since the end of World War II. Ramaphosa’s proposal on jobs creation "has very little substance," said Mbeki, who succeeded Nelson Mandela in 1999. Ramaphosa’s economic plan was drawn up with business and labour groups and includes the government spending R100 billion on new infrastructure over a decade – an undertaking the president expects to attract a further R1 trillion of private investment within four years. Mbeki, a fellow member of the African National Congress, said Ramaphosa’s statements on funding for the projects are "worrying" and implored the government to publish a financing plan that’s "realistic and credible."
Former president Thabo Mbeki The document should indicate how much capital would come from the public sector and the private sector, he said. "This is important because the country suffers from serious fiscal constraints," Mbeki said. "The cost of borrowing would be quite high given the sovereign rating downgrades and serious uncertainties about the future." Africa’s most-industrialised economy was already in the doldrums before the coronavirus struck and ground to a near halt after a lockdown was imposed in late March to curb its spread. Political strife during the past decade worsened investors’ risk aversion to South Africa, Mbeki said. "There has been a sustained and continuing process of the export of capital," Mbeki said. "This has not been for the mere purpose of diversifying portfolios but a step toward the relocation of the businesses and business people concerned." – BLOOMBERG NEWS.
Brexit: ‘Significant differences remain’ over trade deal LONDON - "Significant differences" between the UK and the EU remain, as negotiations for a post-Brexit trade deal continue, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said Following a call with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the weekend, Johnson said progress had been made but there were still issues around the "level playing field" and fishing. Both parties agreed negotiating teams would resume talks in London this week. They also agreed to remain "in close
contact" over the coming days. "The prime minister and president agreed that their negotiating teams would continue talks in London this week, in order to redouble efforts to reach a deal. "They agreed to remain in personal contact about the negotiations," a statement from Downing Street said. Meanwhile, the National Audit Office has warned of "significant disruption" when the Brexit transition period ends. The UK left the EU on January 31 and entered the transition period - continuing
Boris Johnson to follow many EU rules - while a trade deal was negotiated.
But while both sides said a deal needed to be done in October, they have yet to come to an agreement, and talks between the negotiating teams have intensified. The transition period is due to come to an end on December 31, meaning the UK would trade with the EU on World Trade Organisation rules meaning tariffs are imposed - if a deal is not in place. Critics say this could cause damage to the UK economy, but the government insists the country will prosper with or without a deal. – BBC.
We can make SOEs ‘exemplary’, says Gordhan JOHANNESBURG Government is working to make sure that in the next few years state-owned enterprises will not be dependent on the fiscus, but it will take time and the damage of state capture to these entities must first be addressed, said Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan. The minister was responding to a debate on the financial burden of sustaining
non-profitable state-owned enterprises (SOEs) during a sitting of the National Assembly. Earlier, President Cyril Ramaphosa chaired a virtual inaugural meeting of the Presidential SOE Council (PSEC). Ramaphosa had appointed the panel in June to support government in repositioning SOEs so that they could be effective in their mandates of economic transformation and development.
The inaugural meeting discussed the country's economic reconstruction and recovery plan, as well as an overview of SOEs and the terms of reference of the Council, the Presidency said in a statement. Following the meeting the Presidency said that the Council resolved to set up work streams in response to areas of priority that are identified and to commence work immediately. The Council will report back
to the president by January 2021, when the next meeting is expected to be convened. Gordhan has said that restructuring the airline would be far more beneficial than liquidation - it could preserve jobs, maintain competitiveness in the aviation sector so that consumers won't be price takers and it would avoid negative knock-on effects to other industries reliant on the aviation sector. – FIN24.

To the Joe Bidens of Zambia Dear Editor, JOE Biden didn’t just drop from a privatisation scandal to seek the presidency like some clown who want to project themselves as Joe Biden of Zambia He is an experienced politician and leader. He served twice as Vice President of America from 2009 to 2017: He was a running mate to Barrack Obama for 2terms. He started as a County Councillor in 1970, then served as Senator for Delaware from 1973 to 2009. Americans have learnt their

Dear Editor, DISCERNING mind can no longer be deceived that the eligibility debate is being steered by patriots. Since the Constitutional Court pronounced itself on the computation of the 201516 Constitutional era with emphasis on what cannot constitute a full term, this brought the issue to an end. The expression by the Constitutional Court that it was possible for one to be in office for almost oe year was enough convincing clarity that there are no legal bars to President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility to contest the 2021 elections. It is a stale debate with duplicated arguments which were tested before the Constitutional Court and dismissed as the bench opted for a contra-view. It is clear that reigniting the eligibility debate is another political approach which has been adopted with a view of casting doubt in the minds of Zambians on the flag bearer of the ruling Patriotic Front. If at all there are arguments that the court did not pronounce itself on the eligibility of the President to defend his seat, we wonder why they have not gone to court if there are any legal issues surrounding the intention of the President to run for office again. Clearly, the people
discouraging the President makes us arrive at the irresistible conclusion that these machinations have a political overtone than the legal or constitutional considerations. The whole issue is manipulative in nature and also threatens the unity of the nation. It is meant to manipulate the people who maybe intellectual dependents of some misinformed citizens. We wonder why the critics of President Lungu are having sleepless nights regarding is 2021 candidature. Their newly founded political strategy is to misconstrue the intention of President Lungu. President Lungu respects the rule of law and he has shown an exemplary commitment to respect the law even if doing so would work to his detriment. But alas, his critics want to misuse the Constitutional arguments and capture the PF Presidency and progressively Republican Presidency. They are so determined to brew tension in the party with a view to install a user friendly puppet as President. The followers of Zambian public affairs will recall that UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema does not recognise the Presidency of ECL. From HH’s own mouth, he has disrespectfully made remarks disputing the legitimacy of the President in ECL. We wonder what logic is in such reasoning and on what
basis can he count the time occupied by the unrecognised person as to constitute a term? This defies common and legal sense! This is the same crew that stood on an anthill to argue that if ECL lost the 2016 elections he was not entitled to benefits as his 2015-16 Presidency was below the requisite tenure of three years. We have already made it known that our undivided loyalty is with President Lungu. We therefore wish to assure the opposition that the spirit of the Constitution will prevail and the supreme law remains undefiled by floating the ECL candidacy. Conversely, we urge them to come up with pragmatic national alternative plan than exhausting their hard earned intellectual resources on vanity and inordinate levels of desperation. Indeed, they have to make known what will be done different-
ly from PF. To us, talking too much proves that they have no agenda for Zambia. If indeed the eligibility of ba ECL will work to their advantage in 2021, why make it a big issue now? MARVIN CHANDA MBERI, Youth Rights Activist,

Dear Editor, I APPEAL to the government through the ministry of Transport and Communication to revisit the RTSA Act to give it more autonomy. After analysing a lot of accidents where lives have been lost before due to vehicles hitting in stationary vehicles that have broken down on road, I feel we should go the South African way. RTSA should be empowered to have a monitoring system of all, if not major roads in the country to know where there is a broken
Nab the erring controlling officers who misused public funds Dear Editor, I ALSO wish to add my voice on the call to arrest the controlling officers who were recently cited in the Auditor General’s report for misappropriation of public funds. The misappropriation of public funds is very unfortunate because embezzlement of public funds is retrogressive to the economic development of the country. Financial irregularities in Government ministries, departments and quasi Government institutions, among others have been reported every year in the Auditor General’s report. The trend has continued as the erring officers steal public funds with impunity. This should not be the case. The accountants as the custodians of financial

down vehicle so that it can toll it to a Salvage yard where the owner will have to get it after paying a fee. This is the only way we are going to reduce road accidents If our friends in South Africa even use choppers to airlift broken down vehicles from their roads, we surely can also do it, all that we need is political will. This also brings me to ask as to when the Chingola-Kitwe road will be completed and commissioned. I ask this because this short stretch is now being patched before it is even commissioned. What is really so complicated with this road that it has taken this long to complete? WISDOM MUYUNDA, Chingola. resources should adhere to the accountancy etiquette by discharging their duties in a transparent and professional manner. Ultimately, this will ensure that every ngwee is properly accounted for. Besides the financial irregularities reported year in year out, there is the recent revelation in the Auditor General’s audit report that Covid-19 funds amounting to K1.3 billion were not accounted for between February and July this year. These funds were supposed to be used for the intended purpose. But alas, this was not the case. However, the Office of the Auditor General headed by Dr. Dick Sichembe is mandated to recommend the Public Prosecutor to institute investigations against the public officers cited in the recent audit report for misappropriation or misapplication of the public resources. This will ensure that the erring officers will be prosecuted. Zambia is in dire need of the financial resources to spur economic development in different sectors. It is imperative that the officers who misused public funds must be held accountable and possibly face prosecution for their wrong actions. President Edgar Chagwa Lungu is on firm ground against the public officers who misuse the public resources for personal gain at the expense of national development. President Lungu has reiterated that there will be no sacred cows when it comes to utilisation of public funds by those entrusted with the responsibility. As a concerned citizen, I implore the appropriate bodies to expedite the process of probing the erring officers cited in the recent Auditor General’s audit report. This is the way to go in ensuring the prudent utilisation of public funds. ELEMIYA PHIRI, Lusaka.

"One would therefore generally expect an influx of US Dollars in the economy and therefore a significant appreciation of the Kwacha, but this is not the case," Mr Tembo said. He said the continued fall
of the Kwacha against major convertible currencies is the diminishing productive capacity of the economy due primarily to the unstable and unaffordable supply of electricity, which is a key production input. He said the country has seen the largest increment in electricity tariffs at the same time that it has seen the most unstable supply of the commodity in the past two years.
"This combination of adverse factors has caused our economy’s productive capacity to significantly diminish and several businesses failing and shutting down. In order to address this problem, it will not be enough to only increase the country’s electricity generation capacity, but there is also need to revise the tariffs downwards so that they can be affordable to an average local business," Mr Tembo said.

‘UNDER-FIVE’ GANG EMERGES D By SANFROSSA MANYINDA
Inspector General of Police, Kakoma Kanganja
ESPITE many efforts to address youth gangs in Kitwe, it has emerged that the number of criminal groups is slowly increasing in different communities. A new criminal gang calling itself the Under-Five has
emerged in Mindolo North Township where people are living in fear. The criminal gang has been terrorising residents especially in the evening as some had reported that they had lost valuable items at the hands of the rampaging youths. According to the residents, the gang was causing havoc as
they were beating up people and engaging in all sorts of anti-social vices. But Police have warned that they will not tolerate any forms of violence in the city. Inspector General of Police, Kakoma Kanganja, has since directed the Copperbelt police command to curb the vice before it gets out of hand.
Speaking to the Daily Nation in separate interviews, the residents said it was worrying that the group had been forcing young ones to join or risk being beaten up. "Life has become hard for us here, we fear for the lives of our children who are now joining in fear of being beaten or scorched to death.

"We have tried to talk to the members of the said group many times to stop involving our children or they will be taken to the police, but to no avail," one of the residents, Ms Marcy Mulenga said. Ms Mulenga complained that despite threatening the gang with the police, the group said police stations were like clinics for them as they would be out after a day or two. She wondered where the gangs were getting the confidence of daring the police. Another resident, Mr Mathew Mwamba, said that he was fearing for his children's lives who were in the age range that the gang wanted. Mr Mwamba said that the children were no longer free to move about in the area both during the day and during night time. He added that the residents too were at risk of being attacked by the merciless members of the Under Five group.
UCZ pledges continued support to community By ROGERS KALERO THE United Church of Zambia (UCZ) will support individuals who identify themselves with the community in various empowerment projects. UCZ Ndeke congregation minister-in-charge, Weston Simwinga, said in Kitwe that the Church would also give counsel to progressive individuals and organisations working to improve the living standards of people in the community. Reverend Simwinga noted that politicians worked with communities, the reason why the Church and local leaders needed to work together. He was speaking when Patriotic Front aspiring candidate for Kamfinsa parliamentary constituency, Kelvin Chipili, donated K7, 000 towards the purchase of musical instruments for the main church choir which was celebrating its 50 years anniversary. Rev Simwinga said he was grateful that Mr Chipili had continued to identify himself with the community and the church as evidenced by his projects in Kamfinsa constituency. And Mr Chipili said he would try his best to reach out to the community and supplement Government’s effort in various ways.

Long queues characterise registration centres By JACKSON MAPAPAYI
T Kalumbila Mine malaria fight elates residents
HE voter registration exercise has commenced in Solwezi district characterised by long queues in many centres. A check by the Daily Nation at some registration centres showed long queues of potential voters waiting to be attended to. At Community Development centre, a long queue spanning 200 metres was prominent in the
morning Some people interviewed, however, complained that the process was slow and called for increased manpower. John Mobela complained that the process was too slow and that people were spending many hours standing in the scorching heat "I came as early as 08:00 hours, but this is almost 11:00 hours, and I am far away from being attended to," he said. At Kyawama Secondary School centre, the situation was
the same. Some people were seen leaving the registration centre out frustration due to delay in dishing out the voters cards. Meanwhile, Solwezi District Commissioner (DC), Rosemary Kamalonga, encouraged residents to register in numbers to ensure they exercise their civic and democratic rights in the 2021 general elections. Ms Kamalonga said this shortly after touring some a voter registration centres within the
district. She expressed happiness that the number of people who had visited registration centres was overwhelming. "So far so good, the people that have visited registration centres is encouraging. I just appeal to the people to be patient with the process so that they can obtain cards," he said. The DC assured residents that no one would be left behind in the voter registration process as everyone would be attended to.

BY NATION REPORTER RESIDENTS of Kalumbila have hailed the mine for spearheading the fight against Malaria in the district. The residents said efforts being made by the mining giant were in the Malaria fight were commendable. In a quest to end malaria, Kalumbila Minerals limited has partnered with the Kalumbila district health office by contributing K721,000 . The funds would go towards the spraying of homes under the Indoor Residue Spray (IRS) exercise. Kalumbila Minerals limited Environmental manager, Kachiwala Sapalo, said that the mining company had recognised IRS as an effective tool for eliminating the disease due to its preventive nature. Mr Sapalo said with collaboration with the district public health team, various interventions applied towards the fight against malaria have had substantial impact on the disease burden among communities since 2010. "In highlighting the level of reduction in the malaria incidence, our combined efforts realised up to 17,000 structures sprayed in 2018 and 22,000 eligible structures being sprayed in 2019 denoting 76 percent and 92 percent coverage in the catchment area," he said. Mr Sapalo was speaking during the launch of the 2020 IRS exercise at Kisasa secondary grounds. North-western province Permanent Secretory, Willies Mangimela, said Government was committed to eradicating malaria through increased community surveillance. He said mass drug administration, distribution of mosquito nets as well as the application of IRS, would be applied. Earlier, Kalumbila District Health Director Chiluba Kabalika said that the district health office had trained 55 health centre staff and 47 neighbourhood health committee members.

HE voter registration exercise which commenced yesterday in Livingstone has started on a high note. Long queues at the

OVER 2, 600 of the 4, 400 farmers on the Farmer Input Supply Programme (FISP) in Gwembe have so far redeemed their inputs, District Commissioner, Timothy Siakaziba has said. Mr Siakaziba said in an interview that the district had an allocation of 4, 400 farmers in the programme for the 2020/2021 farming season. He said that 3, 600 farmers had already deposited their K400 contributions and that Government had also deposited funds for 3, 500 farmers. Mr Siakaziba said that the balance to be deposited by Government was only for 900 of the total farmers. According to Mr Siakaziba, this was unprecedented because in the past farmers were made to wait for a long time before they could redeem their inputs. He said that some farmers who swiped their inputs as way back as 2016 had not yet received their inputs from agro dealers. Mr Siakaziba was delighted that over 2, 600 farmers had already swiped and redeemed their inputs this farming season. He also observed that this year’s input supply was a success because farmers were not being duped by agro dealers unlike in the past years. He disclosed that the five agro dealers in the district had handled the exercise so well that the district has had no claims from farmers. Mr Siakaziba said that only 130 farmers had done partial swiping. He said that the agro dealers were not swiping all the funds, but were only swiping according to the redeemed inputs. Mr Siakaziba noted that the early delivery of inputs would result in increased agriculture production in the district.

FROM WOMEN TO MIGRANTS: WHAT DOES A BIDEN WIN MEAN FOR AFRICA?
N
The new U.S. government “The new U.S. government should prioritise efforts in leading global action to protect millions of people seeking refuge, particularly from those African countries ridden by deadly conflict or the devastation of a changing climate. As African countries continue to take up more than their fair share of the global duty in welcoming women, children, and men fleeing their homes, the wider international community - led by the United States - has not matched their efforts. NIGEL TRICKS, EAST AFRICA DIRECTOR, NORWEGIAN REFUGEE COUNCIL “The new U.S. government should prioritise efforts in leading global action to protect millions of people seeking refuge, particularly from those African countries ridden by deadly conflict or the devastation of a changing climate. As African countries contin-
ue to take up more than their fair share of the global duty in welcoming women, children, and men fleeing their homes, the wider international community - led by the United States - has not matched their efforts. We would like to see the U.S. government taking a lead in ensuring these host countries have the necessary financial support to ease the load of hosting many millions of refugees, as well as the political engagement that can lead to more durable solutions that help people rebuild their lives.” VICTOR RASUGU, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, NETWORK FOR ADOLESCENT AND YOUTH OF AFRICA “The United States is the single largest family planning donor in the world and thus plays a major role in reproductive health care in Kenya. Trump’s (so-called) global gag rule was and continues to be an onslaught on the reproductive health and rights of women. The decision deprived individuals, especially women of reproductive age, of the right to body autonomy. A win for Joe Biden brings back hope and sanity in the management of the healthcare systems ... Countries like Kenya will once again be free to offer the reproductive health continuum of care to its populace without being whipped into a certain policy direction that they are not party to.” AISSATOU DIOUF, WEST AFRICA COORDINATOR, CLIMATE ACTION NETWORK “The Trump administration has refused to act to mitigate the effects of climate change, and has blocked international climate negotiations for ambitious climate action. Donald Trump’s decision to withhold $2 billion of the $3 billion pledged by his predecessor has contributed to a huge shortfall at the Green Climate Fund - a contribution that would have enabled countries most affected by climate change, such as African countries, to implement policies to strengthen the re-
silience of their frontline communities. A Biden administration would need to take the lead on climate change and make climate change a global priority. We expect the United States would rejoin the Paris Agreement, and step up its efforts and also con-
tribute to the Green Climate Fund.” ISA SANUSI, SPOKESMAN, AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL “President Donald Trump’s expansion of the immigrant visa ban that includes Nigeria and other countries with vulnerable populations fleeing persecution
was unacceptable. The ban is discriminatory – and with it the United States is setting a dangerous precedent. It has closed the door for people fleeing persecution and also for those who are seeking new opportunities. Applying the ban on people
from select countries, some of them facing crisis, is contrary to the values of the United States. It is our hope that all these discriminatory measures will be removed and more migrant friendly policies will be introduced.” – THOMSON REUTERS FOUNDATION.

AIROBI - Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in the U.S. presidential election is set to affect Africa’s 1.3 billion people on issues ranging from climate change and immigration to women’s health and human rights, according to academics and analysts. Under the Trump administration, the United States pulled out of the landmark Paris climate accord, issued travel bans on Muslim-majority nations, and cut aid to charities providing reproductive health services that included abortion advice. The Thomson Reuters Foundation asked activists, academics and analysts how a Biden administration could impact Africa’s 54 nations. DAVID KODE, HEAD OF ADVOCACY, CIVICUS “Civil society groups in Africa have observed how President Trump’s attacks on the media and his violent reprisal of Black Lives Matter protests exhibit similar tendencies of Africa’s worst authoritarian leaders. A Biden presidency will certainly be a welcome relief for Africa as civil society will be able to count on a Biden administration to denounce African leaders who violate the rights of their people and exert pressure on them to uphold international law. A practical way will be for the United States to re-join the U.N. Human Rights Council, which civil society holds in high esteem, but authoritarian leaders have increasingly trod on over the last four years.”

1. Determine the type of charge on each of the following when they are rubbed against each other. (a) Wool and Glass (b) Fur and polythene Solutions (a) Wool will have a negative charge while fur will have a positive charge (b) Polytethene will have a negative charge while fur will have a positive charge Note that during the charging process, the number of excess electrons in one substance is equal to the shortage of the number of electrons in the other substance. No creation of electrons or destruction of electrons occurs during the charging process.
PHYSICS - STATIC ELECTRICITY Learning Outcomes:
Static Electricity- Part 1
§ Describe static electricity § Demonstrate the existance of static charges § Describe the properties § Explain how to detect electric charges Static electricity is a form of electricity that do not involve the movement of charges. Therefore, static electricity is electricity at rest in form of charge.
The law of electrostatics The law of electrostatics states that like charges repel and unlike charges atrract. The above law entails that when two bodies of the same charge are brought close to each, they will repel. Similary, when two bodies with different charges are brought close to each other, they will attract each other. See the figures below.

In addition, if you touch the body of the car that is from moving, you can experience some shock. Further, a truck carrying flammable liquids like petrol have some pieces of chain touching the surface of the road as it is moving, this is done to discharge it. These experiences among others demonstrate the existance of static electricity. There are two types of charges namely positive charges and negative charges. The concept of charges can understood by looking at the structure of an atom. An atom is made up of three particles namely protons, electrons and neutrons. Protons are positively charged, electrons are negatively charged and neutrons have no charge. Protons and neutrons are found in the central part of an atom called nucleus and electrons are found in the shells around the nucleus. See the figure below.

Generally, a body is said to be negatively charged if it has an excess or surplus of electrons. On the other hand, a body is said to be positively charged if it has a shortage of electrons. Note that the nature of the charge on the rubbed body depends on the nature of the object rubbing it. Physicists have classified substances in a certain order so that it is easy to determine the charge on each of the two rubbed substances. These substances are:

Electrostatic induction
In a neutral atom, the number of electrons and proton is the same. If an atom loses some electrons, it becomes positively charged because protons have become more than electrons. Similarly, if an atom gains some electrons,it becomes negatively charged because the number of electrons have become more than the number of protons. This

Degree shocker for MPs, MCAs in 2022 polls
NAIROBI - A law requiring contestants for MP and MCA seats to have a university degree qualification is set to take effect in the 2022 general election, locking out hundreds of potential aspirants whose plans to acquire the academic papers have been derailed by Covid-19. The law, whose implementation date has been postponed several times, is set to take effect in 2022. Members of the National Assembly in 2017 amended section 22 of the Election Act that prescribes minimum academic qualifications for lawmakers at both levels of government. The amendment requires Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to have a minimum bachelor’s degree before they are cleared to contest. And even though the law was enacted just before the 2017 election, the National Assembly successfully pushed for the suspension of its implementation after the election, in the hope that they would have obtained the documents by 2022. With less than two years to go before the next election, and with Covid-19 having disrupted the entire academic calendar, the window for acquiring a degree has been effectively shut. It means politicians planning to vie for seats and do not have the papers will not be cleared to contest. MCAs have vowed to move

AIROBI - Former Tanzanian MP Godbless Lema spent Sunday night in a police station in Kenya moments after irregularly crossing the border, according to Kenyan media outlets. There has been a crackdown on opposition leaders following President John Magufuli's re-election in a landslide victory. Lema was arrested while being driven by his lawyer to Kenya's capital, Nairobi. He was accompanied by his wife

and children. Kenyan police caught up with them at a town located about 45km from the border after being alerted by their Tanzanian counterparts, the Standard newspaper reports. The former MP had reportedly declined to hand over his passport to Tanzanian immigration officials.
His lawyer, George Luchiri Wajackoyah, is quoted by the newspaper as saying he wanted to present the politician to the United Nations Human Rights Commission office in Nairobi. “Right now, I am with my wife Neema, my 14-year-old son Allbless, Brilliance (daughter) my last born son Terrence.
I do not know what tomorrow holds. I am now looking for asylum,” Lema is quoted as saying by the newspaper. Lema was among three opposition leaders who were released last week after being arrested for calling for demonstrations to demand fresh elections. – BBC.
to court next week to challenge the law requiring them to have a university degree, terming it as having the potential of subverting the will of the people. Even though the law has been in place since 2017, it was not easy to establish how many Members of Parliament Senate and National Assembly - already have the needed qualification with just about 18 months to the next polls. Most MPs and senators are yet to submit their details to Parliament, more than three years since the 12th Parliament was inaugurated, making it difficult to know the exact extent of compliance among the 416 MPs. The decision to publicise the biodata of the lawmakers is meant to inform Kenyans about the professional and academic qualifications of their representatives. In a departure from the past, members of the National Assembly and Senate need to present their curriculum vitae during the pre-swearing-in ceremony. The biodata is to be updated on the Parliament website by the Office of the Clerk. It is not clear how many of the MPs elected in 2017 without degrees have gone back to school to fulfil the requirement. Currently only the President, the Deputy President, governors and deputy governors are required by law to have degrees before they are cleared to contest a seat. –DAILY NATION, KENYA.

Beaten Copper Queens reach semis …as Under-17 chase Cosafa finals
By MICHAEL MIYOBA

AMBIA miraculously stormed the semifinals of the 2020 COSAFA Senior Women’s Championship in South Africa despite having been stunned 1-0 by regional rivals Malawi in a Group-B match at the Wolfson Stadium. A lone first half goal from striker Temwani Chawinga propelled Malawi to the
semifinals of the regional championship as group B winners with six points. The defeat against Malawi angered a vividly disappointed Copper Queens coach Bruce Mwape who attributed the loss to his girls’ failure to find the back of the net in the first half of the group B match against Malawi. “I can say we haven’t played well. We actually failed to score and not only that even in terms of
passion, we just wanted to push the ball which made the game difficulty to create scoring chances,” Mwape said. Despite the “disadvantage”, Zambia who were runner up last year qualified as best losers having beaten Lesotho 8-0 in their first match at the tournament. The Copper Queens will now face Botswana in the last four of the competition while Malawi will face hosts, South Africa.
Meanwhile, the Zambia Under-17 women’s team will today play Comoros Islands in their third game at the tournament. The Young Copper Queens who beat South Africa and Tanzania 2-1 respectively will need another victory to increase their chances of reaching the finals. The girls drilled by head coach Kaluba Kangwa and his assistant Carol Kanyemba have been declared ready for Comoros.

SA billionaire Patrice Motsepe announces Caf presidential bid SOUTH African Patrice Motsepe, one of Africa's richest men, has announced his intention to become the next president of the Confederation of African Football (Caf). The chairman of 2016 African club champions Mamelodi Sundowns becomes the third person to bid for the role, after incumbent Ahmad and Jacques Anouma of Ivory Coast. Motsepe is Africa's tenth richest man, according to Forbes magazine which estimates his wealth at $2.4 billion. "Caf must improve its global standing," said South Africa FA president Danny Jordaan. "He is the most appropriate person we could offer for the leadership of Caf. We do not want any compromise on governance or ethics in football."
Motsepe, who is in quarantine at home after contracting Covid-19 according to Jordaan, was not present at yesterday's press conference in Johannesburg to announce his bid, with Jordaan - flanked by South Africa's Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa - doing so instead. In a related development, one expected challenger - Amaju Pinnick of Nigeria - has decided against standing for the Caf presidency and given his backing to Motsepe instead. The South African is the second candidate to announce in less than 48 hours, after Anouma - a former member of Fifa's Executive Committee (now Fifa Council) between 2007 and 2015 - was formally backed by the Ivorian federation on Saturday evening. - BBC
Football legend Samuel Eto'o survives car crash FOUR-TIME African player of the year Samuel Eto'o survived a road accident on Sunday while heading to Cameroon's commercial hub Douala, according to family members. He was returning from Bafoussam town, in western Cameroon, where he had attended a festival over the weekend. A driver is said to have lost control of his car and hit two cars in Eto'o's convoy. The former Barcelona forward is in hospital, according to family members. His spokesperson said Eto'o was doing fine and that his car got damaged. He refused to answer any other questions. – BBC.
10 November 2020, Lusaka: ZESCO Limited will commence the filling up of the dam water reservoir at Kafue Gorge Lower (KGL) project site today, Tuesday 10th November 2020. The water impoundment process will lead to reduced power generation. Customers are likely to experience extended load shedding on the first day of the process Tuesday, November 10 starting at 00:01 hours to around 12:00 hours. During the subsequent 10 days, reduced generation at Kafue Gorge Upper Power Station will be maintained to control the rate of filling up of the new dam. The Nationwide Load Management programme will maintain Level- three of the Weather Induced Power Deficit of 2019 (WIPOD-19), which translates into 8 to 12 hours of load shedding subject to system conditions. We call on our customers and the general public to support this process by employing measures to safeguard system stability.
