EMBRACE DIVERSITY POLITICAL players must embrace unity in diversity and depart from character assassination as the country draws closer to the campaign period for the 2021 general elections. It is time for politicians to strategize their campaigns which should be free of toxic undertones as the political temperature is rising each day that passes. Currently, the atmosphere is tense such that if elections were to be held today, there would be intolerance while malicious falsehoods would be the order of the day. There is so much mistrust among political nemesis. Zambia has since independence been known as the oasis of peace not only in African but the world over, having transitioned through six presidents peacefully. Additionally, Zambia was among the first countries that positively responded to the wind of change from late 80s to the early 90s and peacefully re-introduced a multi-party political system. Yes, the 27-year rule under UNIP came to an end along with the communist economic set- up. It is against such a backdrop that politicians should strive to remain peaceful and tolerant towards divergent views. Politics must not be an avenue through which to settle scores neither must it be an occupation, but a vehicle through which individuals should offer selfless service to the country. Players on both sides of the political divide must thus focus on serving the larger majority and not prioritising self and narrow interests. Therefore, the focus for all genuine political players must be realigned so that ultimately service to the people can take precedent. Once the political focus has been realigned, political discourse will naturally centre on substantive issues. Petty discussions will be consigned to the political archives along with incorrigible characters. There are so many topical issues that need to be addressed with levelheadedness such as the Constitutional Amendment Bill number of 2019, COVID-19 and its impact on the social and economic outlay of the country. Other issues are the crippling external and domestic debt as well as issues affecting the youth such as moral decay, rising unemployment levels and loss of family ties. Therefore, all the above and other issues must be debated and settled in an amicable manner, putting national interest first. All outstanding issues must be ironed out and then shift focus to the campaign for the 2021 general elections or else the country risks getting into next year with the same depressing woes. Leaders in PF, MMD, NDC, UPND, FDD and other parties must get magnanimous enough to sit down and thrash out sticky issues instead of issuing alarming statements in the media. At the moment, Zambians are yearning for solutions to the many challenges confronting them. Unproductive political debates are just working to irritate the masses that are highly expectant of progressive discourse aimed at seeking solutions. It is expected that rouble-rousers, spoilers and other political misfits will withdraw to the back seat and allow serious political players take centre-stage. Evidently, some people have thrust themselves in the political arena as hired guns while others are simply job seekers, who are ready to shout any political slogan even if it does not make sense.

By JOHN KOMBE HE Food Reserve Agency (FRA) may not buy any maize in Chongwe due to the low price and mode of payment, a civic leader in Chongwe has observed. Lwimba ward councillor, Vincent Mwachiyeya made the observation in an interview yesterday that the low price by FRA would cost them. According to him the depots in his area had not even purchased a single bag by press time. He said that briefcase buyers were buying the commodity at K115 cash as compared to the FRA price of K110 coupled with late payment. He observed that farmers were opting to sell the commodity to briefcase buyers who had a better price and instant cash. He appealed to the government to rethink the price if they are to meet the purchase quantity target. Another civic leader of Katoba ward, Charles Moyo disclosed that FRA had not

‘Cameras installation meant to enhance security’ By ANDREW MUKOMA THE security cameras being installed in all the provincial headquarters and cities are meant to enhance security, Home Affairs Ministry Public Relations Officer Nephas Chifuta has said. Currently, the Ministry of Home Affairs is installing security cameras in all the provincial headquarters, cities, borders areas and sensitive places to enhance security in the country. He told the Daily Nation in Livingstone that there was nothing unusual about the exercise. “We are installing security cameras in all 10 Provincial Headquarter in Zambia and again we are also installing the cameras in the cities and besides that, we are also mindful of installing the same security cameras in all the sensitive places. “The idea behind is that we would want to ensure that we enhance security of the people in the country and also the security of properties owned by either
the government or private individuals,” he said. He added, “Once we roll out this programme to all the provincial headquarters, border areas and the cities, then with possibly the improvement in the resource base, we may also consider doing the same program in all the districts.” Mr Chifuta said that the ministry in phase one has targeted provincial headquarters, border areas and all the cities. “So for the Copperbelt, we are going to install security cameras in Ndola, being the provincial headquarters for the Copperbelt and also Kitwe being a city. We are going to have the national headquarters for the safe city in Lusaka. “This facility will be able to watch over all the cameras that will be across the country and those that will be installed in the provincial headquarters and cities…those will only be monitoring the security activities within their provincial headquarters or
the cities,” he said. Mr Chifuta noted that the cameras would be able to backtrack and check if an incidence happened in the night adding that officers would still be able to identify the person who has committed the crimes. “For Southern Province, we are going of course to install the cameras in Choma being the provincial headquarters and also we are going to put the cameras in Livingstone being a city. We would want a situation where people whether they’re moving in the middle of the night or moving in the day, they feel secured all the time,” Mr Chifuta explained. “The idea is we do not want a situation where a crime has been committed and we have no clue. Our cameras will be able to help us identify the people that would have committed the crime and besides that again, we are also going to remove the presence of traffic officers on our roads. The cameras will be doing the work,” he said.

the International Residual Mechanism Criminal Tribunals judicial roster that includes Judge Carmel Agius from Malta who is the President of the Mechanism. She was first elected to serve on the tribunal in 2011 after serving as general counsel to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) from 2002 to 2006. Mr Guterres announced in a letter to the General Assembly that he had reappointed Judge Matimba Nyambe who is among the six female jurists from the 25 members. The International residual mechanism for criminal tribunals, is an international court which was established by the UN Security Council in 2010.
of FRA in his area would negatively affect the ability to meet the target. Mr. Moyo also observed that the low price by FRA was another factor because farmers were spending more on fertilizer and as such the maize price was too low for them. He appealed to the government to consider raising the price to meet the cost of growing the maize. And another councillor of Manyika ward, Runner Shiyala observed FRA may not buy any maize from his area because they had not even started buying the commodity despite them announcing their arrival. He said that FRA had not reported in the area forcing farmers to transport the commodity to millers in Lusaka.
850 defect to join PF in Kabompo ABOUT 850 people from the 15 Wards in Kabompo constituency have defected from United Party for National Development (UPND), Forum for Democratic Development (FDD) and Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) to join the ruling Patriotic front in Kabompo district in Northwestern province. PF Kabompo District Chairman Briston Nyamachaka presented the 850 defectors to party Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri in Kabompo district at the PF district secretariat office. He said people in Kabompo have decided to defect following the peace, unity and good leadership coupled with various developmental projects going on countrywide under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu. Among the defectors was the former UPND National Secretary Adviser Benjamin Chipango who was also a staunch and strong UPND supporter in Kabompo district with Litiya ward youth chairlady Edith Chilambo. Mr Chipango said the people of Kabompo cannot allow their Member of Parliament, Honorable Ambros Lufuma, to continue misleading and misrepresenting people’s view who voted him into power by walking out in parliament on matters that can bring development in the constituency. He said the unbecoming behavior of not consulting his electorates by the area member of parliament has brought divisions in the district, the more reason for people defecting to join the ruling PF Mr. Chipango further said he wants peace to prevail in the country adding that he will support President Edgar Lungu and the PF party to foster development in the district and the country as a whole. And receiving the defectors, PF National Deputy Secretary Mumbi Phiri said there is no first and last in PF adding that some of the defectors need to be embraced so as to grow the party. - ZANIS

UPND are dictators From Page 1 Confirming his resignation, Mr Namulambe told the Daily Nation in Luanshya that he would rather stick with the people that believe the bill was progressive than follow the party’s dictatorial lines. The resignation came after the opposition party ordered Mr Namulambe to apologise for issuing a statement earlier yesterday that he supported the bill and for not analysing it in the party lines. He described the opposition UPND as undemocratic for refusing to listen to his divergent views over the matter. "Bill 10 in its current state has progressive clauses which will benefit the people of Zambia. I therefore urge all UPND members of parliament to stay in parliament to debate the clauses they believe are not beneficial to the general citizenry," he advised. Refusing to apologise for supporting Bill 10, Mr Namulambe said it was best for him to resign for the welfare of the Zambian people. He indicated that he had no reason to not be in support of Bill 10 which the UPND was rejecting. Mr Namulambe, who is also former Mpongwe Member of Parliament and Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister, said Bill 10 was a progressive law and his support for it was in national interest. He said Bill 10 has very good progressive clauses which needed to be supported by every well meaning person. He said Bill 10 had many good clauses which included the recognition of Chiefs and delimitation of large constituencies. "Members of Parliament have a constitutional duty to put the interest of the people first than a political
party," he said. He therefore, praised government for being transparent in the way it was handling Bill 10. He urged opposition Members of Parliament to stop walking out of Parliament when the Bill was being discussed because they had a duty to put across their arguments for the betterment of their electorates. He said when Copperbelt rural gets more constituencies, development will be enhanced as Constituency Development Fund will be increased in areas where there was only one constituency. He wished those opposing the Bill goo luck stating that if they were copying from Malawi and thought they would win in Zambia with such selfishness, they would be shocked. Mr Namulamne therefore, refused to apologise to the UPND for supporting the Bill and opted to go alone in politics. Meanwhile, National Democratic Congress Copperbelt Vice Chairman Samuel Munthali has resigned from his position and party. Mr. Munthali said his decision to resign is personal and has a politician he needs to grow. He said his resignation is with immediate effect from July 5, 2020. "I have resigned from the NDC. I have also resigned from my position as vice Copperbelt Chairman with immediate effect since last night July 5, 2020. So I am no longer a member of NDC," said Mr. Munthali. He said he will focus on his political career because he needs to be more involved and grow. Mr. Munthali is the immediate former Local government Association of Zambia President and former Mayor of Ndola.

Forest 27 land benefitted all classes - Kapata By KETRA KALUNGA ORDINARY Zambians have also benefitted from the de-gazetting of Forest 27 in Lusaka and not just prominent people, Lands and Natural Resources minister, Jean Kapata has said. And Ms Kapata said Forest 27 was de-gazetted because of the high demand for land and that there was still a large portion of virgin land in the reserve. She said it was not true that all the land in forest 27 had been allocated as there was still over 1 000 hectors of land left. “The reports that only the prominent people in the
country have been allocated land in the forest 27 are not true. If you check on the list, ordinary citizens have been given land in the Forest as well,” Ms Kapata said during the Sunday Interview Program on ZNBC. Ms Kapata said ordinary Zambians who followed the land application procedure have also been allocated land in the forest. She challenged individuals who were in doubt to check the list of people who had got land in Forest 27 and see if its only prominent people who had benefitted. Meanwhile, Ms Kapara said the government decided to de-gazzatte the forest fol-
lowing increasing demand for land from the citizenry. She also said water sources had not been affected by the de-gazetting of Forest 27. "Forest 27 is still there, 1 000 plus hectors of land has been left and the law says 50 metres way from the water source so that 50 metres is in the 1000 hectors left to guide the recharge," said Ms. Kapata. And Mr Kapata announced that the minimum age for people to acquire land from Government had been reduced from 21 years old to 18 years. She said the reduction would cater for the youths who needed empowerment through land.

‘We will see you in our strongholds’ UPND OKAYS LUNGU BOOING By SANFROSSA MANYINDA THE Patriotic Front will reciprocate the treatment the UPND subjected the Head of State to in Monze in all ruling party strongholds, several PF regional leaders have vowed. The irate officials have declared most PF inclined provinces as nogo area for the UPND leadership. This follows the unruly behavior by some UPND cadres exhibited towards the President during his recent visit to Southern province. PF chairperson for women, Jean Kapata declared all party strongholds a no go area for UPND leaders. Ms Kapata said the failure by the opposition party leadership to condemn the unruly behaviour of their cadres proved they incited the animosity. “Being a former UPND youth leader, I am 100% sure that the unfortunate incident that occurred in Monze District where President Edgar Lungu had gone on National
duty had the blessing of the Party leadership in long serving Member of Parliament, Jack Mwiimbu and the party president Hakainde Hichilema,” former UPND Lusaka district youth treasure Francis Sampa said. And PF Copperbelt province mobilisation chairperson, Bowman Lusambo said the PF in the province would make it impossible for the UPND to conduct any business there. Mr Lusambo said that the party would reciprocate the treatment the opposition was subjecting the head of state to and carry it out to good measure on the Copperbelt Mr Lusambo who is Kabushi Member of Parliament and Lusaka province minister said the opposition ought to realise that President Edgar Lungu was a President for all Zambians and held the highest public office in the land and that he deserved respect. Meanwhile, PF youths in Luapula Province have reacted angrily to UPND youths booing of Presi-
dent Edgar Lungu in Southern. Kawambwa PF youth Chairperson Kalumba Chifumbe said that UPND leader's failure to condemn violence by his cadres was an indication that their actions had his blessings. And PF Muchinga province chairperson Alex Simuwelu said UPND leaders and members should expect a taste of their own bitter medicine following their disrespectful tendencies. The PF in Northern province have challenged the UPND leader, Hakainde Hichilema to condemn the barbaric conduct of his unruly cadres in Monze district. Provincial youth secretary, Chanda Nsofu said Mr Hichilema must take responsibility for his cadres’ behavior towards President Edgar Lungu. And PF Eastern Province chairman, Andrew Lubusha said Mr Hichilema must take responsibility for the barbaric behavior towards President Lungu when he visited southern province.
BY MULENGA MUSONDA THE booing of President Edgar Lungu in Monze was a reaction to the police and the Patriotic Front cadres removing UPND campaign posters, UPND deputy spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has said. In justifying the unruly conduct of UPND cadres, Mr Mweetwa also said the opposition party had to show the President that they were citizens with rights. "We as the people, will indicate to President Lungu that we are here, we are UPND, that's why they were clad in regalia and since you are pulling down our regalia we'll put on regalia and show you Police, that even in the presence of Edgar Lungu we are citizens who have a right to be seen where we belong" he said. Mr Mweetwa said the residents behaved in such a manner not because of the President's visit but because they were frustrated at the conduct of the police. Despite the acrimonious behaviour towards President Edgar Lungu by res-
idents in Monze, Mr Mweetwa said the president should be happy for being received in an opposition stronghold. "And President Lungu and anybody sensible in PF should be happy that a president can go into an area and is received by an opposition, it shows that democracy is still alive in Zambia," he said. The Choma Central MP also applauded the Police who he accused of working with PF Cadres in bringing down UPND Campaign Posters for working closely with UPND Cadre's in ensuring that the visit by the president was smooth. "Those youths in Muchinga or Luapula, or any other place would do well to know what they may not know that actually the UPND youths worked closely with Police in Monze to ensure that the people who had come in large numbers did not become disruptive," he said. Mr Mweetwa was speaking during a media briefing in Choma on Monday.

Green Party raps Opposition Alliance By ROGERS KALERO
P
OLITICAL alliances have proved to a problem due to different ideologies of political parties and selfishness which usually result in disagreements in the long run,'' Opposition Green Party Leader Peter Sinkamba has said Mr Sinkamba said his party he will not risk compromising its ideologies by getting into a political alliance with other opposition parties ahead of next year`s general elections. UPND and NDC leaders, Hakainde Hichilema, and Chishimba Kambwili, respectively, have called for floating one candidate - a move which the opposition anticipates would oust the PF from power. But Mr Sinkamba maintained that a political political alliance would not work in the Zambian context because of inherent selfishness by some leaders. "As a party, we have talked about growing marijuana for medicinal purposes and investing in environmental protection, a Green agenda which other parties do not talk about. So since they don't believe in our ideologies, we cannot form alliances with them. "The other thing which brings problems in alliances is the issue of selfishness and trust. So, as Green Party, we will not risk compromising our party's ideologies by forming a political alliance with other opposition parties ahead of next year`s general elections,'' Mr Peter Sinkamba said. Mr Sinkamba however stated that his party could only go into an alliance based on similar ideologies and where members were not selfish. He said the Green Party would not practice 'bandwagon' politics where people follow politicians and their parties blindly without understanding ideologies and principles. He said 'bandwagon politics and politics of personal vendetta were retrogressive and should not be entertained in Zambia. "We are not a bandwagon political party, we are a political party built on principles and ideologies. So you will not hear Green Party practicing politics of personal vendetta or insults. "We will sell ourselves to the people of Zambia based on our ideologies. If they like our policies, they will vote for us, but id they don't then we continue with our ideologies,'' he said

Mr Lubusha, who is PF Eastern provincial chairperson, said the propaganda UPND leaders were throwing was enough evidence that they were already feeling the weight of defeat. He said President Edgar Lungu has shown true leadership and that was why the UPND members were joining PF. He was speaking to the Daily Nation in an interview. "The mass defections we are witnessing from the UPND is proof that UPND is a failed project. Just recently we received 150 defectors in Nyimba district joining PF from different political parties including UPND," he said. "We don't need to buy out people to join PF. The selfless leadership and the developmental projects by His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu is enough evidence for one to join the boat. Mr Lubusha said the PF in the

This is according to a notice of discontinuance filed
by Mr Lubinda’s lawyers from Messrs Kaunda Kaunda Legal Practitioners “Take notice that the plaintiff (Lubinda) has of this date wholly discontinued this action,” read the notice. eos and articles accusing him of being a foreigner. He was further claiming an order of permanent injunction, punitive and exemplary damages, interest on the damages and costs. Mr Lubinda who is also Kabwata PF Member of Parliament, stated in his statement of claim that sometime in June this year, Lukuku recorded himself in an untitled

But Mr Lubinda complained that the words in their natural and ordinary meaning meant and had been understood to mean that he was an imposter and was not patriotic to Zambia.
Illegal road blocks irks commuters rights body By PETER SICHALI CONTINUED mounting of illegal Police checkpoints and road blocks is a clear indication that someone is benefitting from corruption opening on the Zambian roads, Commuter rights Association of Zambia (CRAZ) president Aaron Kamuti has charged. Mr Kamuti said it was unfortunate that Police command has failed to enforce Home Affairs minister Stephen Kampyongo's direc-
tive to dismount illegal road blocks and checkpoints. "We complained about unnecessary road blocks and police check point and there was a directive by Home Affairs minister on these road therefore it was expected police command would enforce the directive but unfortunately illegal and unnecessary road blocks have continued to mushroom, "Mr Kamuti said. Mr Kamuti said the illegal road blocks were a conduit for corruption and should therefore come to a stop. Mr

Kamuti has since advised commuters and the public to effect citizen arrest on police officers mounting illegal road blocks. "As CRAZ we have had enough and we would want to advise citizens and motorists to start effecting citizens arrest on police officers mounting illegal road blocks and check points," he said. He said failure to enforce the minister's directive was clear indication that someone was benefiting from the corruption occurring on the road blocks.
He said some police checkpoints are unnecessary and are just a recipe for corruption. Mr Kamuti said unnecessary road blocks are inconveniencing people therefore authorities should step in ensuring that they come to a stop. Mr Kamuti said unnecessary road blocks are a source of anarchy and a conduit for corruption on the road. He said road blocks are counterproductive as they are causing unnecessary traffic.
that they need to be restructured because they cannot be running in the best way possible. “Covid-19, exchange rate and cost of energy can play a part in the way these companies are running and it’s always important to do a review to understand what the dynamics are,” he said. EAZ president Lubinda Haabazoka said a review of State-owned companies was a must because their performance is an issue critical to the Zambian economy. Mr Haabazoka said if these companies performed poorly, there was risk of a drain on national coffers. “Boards are very important for Stated-Owned enterprises as they act as an ear for Government, they control the strategic direction of the company and are answerable to the performance of a particular enterprise,” “Boards should be able to review quarterly performances and overall
performance in a particular financial year and this reports should be made public so that there is also public scrutiny and proper corporate governance issues because the government cannot continue pumping in resources to safe guard the employees of that particular companies,” he said. EAZ was happy that some companies were posting profits. Mr Haabazoka hailed Zamtel and Zesco for increased efforts to ensure profitably. He was however unhappy that companies like Ndola Lime were still faced with serious financial issues. The EAZ president said SOEs should behave as if they were operating in the private space and compete favourably without having Government to step in. Government still has about 32 SOEs on its books under the Industrial Development Corporate, 17 of which are loss-making and draining Government finances.

Dr Maimbo will maintain IBRD financial sustainability and capacity, with particular attention to policies affecting its capital adequacy, income generating capacity and balance sheet management. Dr Ng’andu said the worthy appointment of Dr Maimbo demonstrated the confidence that the World Bank Group has in his talents and competency to deliver results. “He is a symbol of inspiration for many young professionals in Zambia, who need to know that with career focus and hard work, internationally competitive professional development is attainable,” he said in a statement. Zambia is currently implementing over 25 projects financed by the World Bank Group through grants and loans valued at over US$1.1 billion. The projects are in agriculture, energy, infrastructure, trade development, and water and sanitation sectors. Others are in health, education, and climate resilience.

CONOMIC activity mirrors the balance between what individuals, businesses, and governments buy and what they sell. Most people every day buy groceries and other basic needs that are required to run homes, businesses and support life in general. However, most of us do not demand receipts for what we have purchased nor properly check the contents of what we are given as a receipt. Statistics have shown that very few people bother to demand for and check the receipts. Despite the law requiring that businesses especially those registered for Value Added Tax (VAT) must always issue fiscal receipts after every business transaction, the compliance level is still very low. NTERPRISES should actively study and capture changes in market demand and take actions promptly to reduce negative impact caused by the current Covid-19. This is according to a survey report on the impact of Covid-19 on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Zambia. According to the report, enterprises should urgently adapt to the new market demand to reduce the negative impact by rapidly adjusting their manufacturing plan and sales strategy. For instance, the report said, some companies had voluntarily shifted to manufacturing Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), benefitting both themselves and society. "Others have been speeding-up their business transformations to adapt to consumer preferences and competition patterns that may
change after the pandemic," the report said. The report encouraged enterprises to streamline businesses and reduce costs rapidly. It indicated that enterprises should take timely measures to preserve cash flow when confronted with sudden crises. "For enterprises suffering from heavy losses, measures such as telecommunication, employee time-sharing and stimulating employees’ creativity for new business
models should be fully explored, before considering layoffs and salary cuts," the report said. It further stressed the need for enterprises to have a sound risk management to prepare to cushion the adverse effects of future emergencies. The report said this was because the pandemic had highlighted the importance of risk management. "Furthermore, there is the need to apply the Govern-
ments Standard Operating Procedures per Sector that preserve health and safety of workers and customers in the context of Covid-1919 as restrictions are being lifted," the report said. The report recommended the provision of credit guarantee schemes to support MSMEs access to financial resources by Government and its Cooperating Partners. It said this should to be supplemented with the support of commercial banks. According to the report, private lending, inclusive finance and online. banking among others, could also provide timely financial support for SMEs. "Development of new financial products in the medium and long-term, it is necessary to consider innovative financial products, so as to provide more diversified financing channels for MSMEs, as well as helping them finance in more effective ways and at lower costs," the report indicated.
THE performance of capital markets in the last nine months has gone down due to the current macro-economic environment which has affected the exchange and the inflation rates. The stability of the exchange and inflation rates is key to the performance of the capital markets, says Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) Chief Executive Officer, Phillip Chitalu. Mr Chitalu explained that long term investments were of concern for most investors due to the current high inflation rate as capital was eroded within a short period of time. Capital markets, he explained, did not operate in a vacuum and therefore, it got affected by the macro-economic fundamentals such as inflation and the exchange rates. He was speaking recently during the Stanbic Bank Zambia-Anakazi Banking Online Conversation episode 8. "For the last 10 years, the performance of capital markets has been superior. But we have noticed that in the last nine months, the perfor-
Demand for receipts always bility to demand for receipts remains largely on the citizenry. Demanding for receipts helps the government and the tax authority to collect the correct taxes on behalf of the Zambian people. Its only through the receipts that monies paid in taxes would be accounted for and remitted to the government. Without a receipt being obtained, a business can manipulate the entire sales transaction and evade taxes. As citizens, when we fail to demand for a receipt after purchasing goods or services, then we fail our country and ourselves. We ultimately deprive ourselves
the much-needed resources required by the government to be used in various economic development activities and programmes such as infrastructure, education,
health just to mention a few. It is important that as a consumer we do not only demand a receipt but also check if everything on that receipt is in order because a
receipt should have the following contents; the name and address of the business; Taxpayer Identification Number (TPIN); description of supply (goods or services being supplied), quantity and unit price of supplies; tax rate chargeable and total value of the transaction. The advantages of issuing receipts to a business are vast and among them is improved compliance and reduction in pilferage by employees. The business also avoids penalties arising from non-issuance of receipts from the tax authority. The culture of receipt issuance has to be internalized by every business and orga-

"If I bring US$1 million in the economy, how much do I take out in 12 months if the exchange rate has gone up? If I did not hedge then I would have lost out. So there are all these factors affecting the performance," Mr Chitalu said. Stanbic Bank Zambia Regional Debt Capital Markets Manager, Pascal Mwila, stressed that a healthy and functioning capital market was indicative of the performance of the economy. Mr Mwila said it was imperative to have a robust capital market, enough for the index to be used as a barometer for the economy. "In my mind, if you have a healthy and functioning capital markets, it becomes another indicator, another barometer for the economy," he said.
nization. We have seen some business premises such as Monchachos outlet at the Cosmopolitan Mall on Kafue Road in Lusaka putting up a notice that encourages all customers to demand for a receipt and in case they receipt is not issued; the client should see the Manager of the outlet and demand a whooping K 1, 000 cash. This is so commendable by the business owners as this brings about accountability and improves compliance. It is important for every business to also understand that failure to issue a receipt or tax invoice is a very serious offence that would attract huge fines. No business would love to risk and get penalized with a huge amount on a simple mistake either with intent to defraud the state of the tax revenue or purely out of negligence.
7 / Daily Nation, Tuesday 7 July, 2020 THE coronavirus crisis could “level down” the UK economy with London and the South East expected to bounce back more quickly than Hull and Bradford. Sectors such as finance and construction will be worst affected by the pandemic, a report from the Social Market Foundation think tank warned. Initially, that means London and the South East would be worst hit, but other areas face a slower recovery. The Treasury said it was committed to “levelling up” every region of the UK. “After the financial crisis, London recovered quickly because of a concentration of jobs in banking and insurance,” the Social Market Foundation (SMF) report said. “Whilst these jobs will face the biggest initial blow from coronavirus, evidence suggests the capital is more economically resilient and the labour market will recover quicker than the rest of the country.” But that is not the case in areas where unemployment rates were above the UK’s average of 3.8% last year, according to the SMF, a centrist think tank. It said those areas, which include Manchester and Peterborough, face the slowest recovery. ”Policy makers need to recognise that national or even regional data can conceal the local realities of this

decade.” The report also found that young people were more vulnerable to the economic impacts of the virus crisis. It said people between the ages of 20 and 24 were least likely to work in sectors like education, health or public administration, which have seen fewer people furloughed or made redundant. “Young people’s jobs are most at risk, but a quarter of older workers also face job
instability,” Ms Norman said. “Politicians have announced the guaranteed youth opportunity but are light on support for those in older categories who will find themselves out of work.” A Treasury spokeswoman said: “As we recover from the outbreak we remain committed to levelling up every region and nation of the UK - helping ensure they return to growth, jobs and prosperity in a way that is safe. - BBC
Unions threaten court action over threat to liquidate SAA SAA rescuers Les Matuson and Siviwe Dongwana are expected to table a revised business rescue plan tomorrow, which proposes a R27 billion government bailout and will be voted on by creditors a week later. DURBAN - South African Airways (SAA) workers’ unions have threatened to take a legal route in their battle with the government over a looming threat to liquidate the airline ahead of the creditors meeting to vote on the proposed business rescue plan. The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) and the South African Cabin Crew Association (Sacca) said yesterday that they were shocked by the National Treasury showing support for the liquidation of SAA. Treasury told Parliament on Friday that there was “no further action” planned to bail out SAA except to settle guaranteed debt. Finance Minister Tito Mboweni did not allocate new bailouts for the loss-making state airline in an emergency Budget last week and declined to outline reasons why. Numsa and Sacca said they do not accept that the airline can be liquidated without the approval of Parliament. “We have accordingly instructed our lawyers to prepare a legal challenge in order to ensure that those who are intent
on liquidating SAA will be stopped in their tracks and workers can be assured that we will leave no stone unturned in protecting their rights and interests in these difficult times,” they said. SAA rescuers Les Matuson and Siviwe Dongwana are expected to table a revised business rescue plan tomorrow, which proposes a R27 billion government bailout and will be voted on by creditors a week later. The government has offered R2.2 billion for voluntary severance packages to 3700
SAA workers, saying that liquidation would be costly and protracted. It said some unions and staff representatives supported the severance packages except for Numsa, Sacca and the SAA Pilots Association. The unions called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to immediately intervene, saying Mboweni’s actions had compromised the independence and credibility of the imminent vote on the SAA business rescue plan. - BUSINESS REPORT ONLINE
ZAMBIA’S celebrated think tank the Economics Association Zambia - EAZ wishes to congratulate Ms. Mukwandi Chibesakunda on her appointment as Chief Executive Officer for Lusaka Securities Exchange - LuSE listed Zambia National Commercial Bank Plc. Ms. Chibesakunda takes over from Henk Mulder effective 01 October 2020. Ms. Chibesakunda is a fully paid up member of the Economics Association of Zambia and has been very instrumental and supportive of the association’s initiatives. The Association takes this opportunity to congratulate the newly appointed Zambia National Commercial Bank - CEO and to thank her for the support in the think-tanks endeavours. Ms. Chibesakunda was the first Chief Executive Officer to meet the EAZ Board during the road shows leading to the National Economic Summit - NES 2019 and offered financial assistance both pre and post the associations debut summit. Associated with National Savings and Credit Bank - Natsave then, Ms. Chibesakunda was still the first CEO to pledge support towards the 2020 National Economic Summit to focus on Sustainable Development Goals - SDGs for 2030 but for COVID19 disease pandemic that distorted the targeted host date. The EAZ
has nonetheless resumed preparations for the second NES with a date to be announced in due course. The Association is excited about the appointment because one of its fully paid up members, a Zambia bred Economist by profession has morphed to an institution that was one of the platinum sponsors of the NES 2019 by then under the leadership of Mr. Henk Mulder (Outgoing CEO) who alongside Ms. Charity Lumpa the Board Chairman were fully present at the summit that hosted both Zambia and Kenya’s Republican Presidents His Excellencies Edgar Lungu and Uhuru Kenyatta alongside the former President of Tanzania Dr. Jakaya Kikwete in Livingstone. Under the leadership of Ms. Chibesakunda, the summit take away project book was funded by National Savings and Credit Bank. The Board and Management of the Economics Association of Zambia looks forward to working with Ms. Chibesakunda as Zanaco Chief Executive Officer and as an Executive Member of the Association. The Association further thanks Mr. Henk Mulder and Ms. Charity Lumpa for the support rendered during NES19 summit. Mr. Hichilema Can’t Fool The Nation Anymore! Dear editor,
Dear editor, We have noted a lot of wasted efforts targeted at President HH from Party Presidents of certain political parties that left the Opposition Alliance. There are a good number of them I advised against leaving the Opposition Alliance because I knew how politically frozen it is outside the Opposition Alliance. I told them that it’s cold out there. It’s really cold. Now after experiencing the coldness and they have seen that time has run out before August 12, 2020, they want to direct all negative energies on President HH. Why should people be that unfair? Indeed some of these political parties are just skeleton organisations without membership. But President HH and Dr Kambwili accepted that we can still work together. Now instead of somebody to weigh his political party and evaluate that he only needed to be loyal and humble, like the way I did, they chose to start demanding big things and big recognition. Just from the blues and without any political experience whatsoever, Sean wanted to be the vice President of the alliance. I am personally very disappointed with Presidents Fresher Siwale and Sean Tembo for what they are writing everyday about President HH. Because that is only going to serve the benefits of PF the common enemy of the Zambian people. I love the courage, strength and wisdom of Dr Chishimba Kambwili by remaining in the alliance while at the same time speaking out his mind about what he expects. Otherwise to divorce a wife and then you keep talking about her wherever you go it simply means you are missing that wife. As things stand, the Opposition Alliance is the only ideal combination capable of forming government after the PF in 2021. UPND MUST APOLOGIZE FOR THE BEHAVIOR OF THEIR CADRES IN MONZE Dear editor, Being a former UPND youth leader, I am 100% sure that the unfortunate incident that occurred in Monze District where President Edgar Chagwa Lungu had gone on National duty had the blessing of the Party leadership in long serving Member of Parliament Mr Jack Mwiimbu and the Party President Mr Hakahinde Hichilema. Youths in these political parties do not do anything without the leadership approval, in fact prior to the President’s visit to Southern Province, Mr Mwiimbu issued a retrogressive statement in which he refused to welcome the President in his constituency, why can’t we conclude that he organized those thugs to humiliate a sitting President on developmental tour? President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has taken development to all corners of the country without a sense of segregation and a normal Member of Parliament should be happy with such a President who care more for everyone including those that chose not to vote for him. Civilized Members of Parliament like Ikelenge MP Hon. Elijah Muchima, welcomes the President when he takes developmental projects to their constituencies because they understand that such
development will benefit their people and not satisfying HH in Lusaka by staying away. It’s unfortunate, that we have politically aligned NGO’s like Gears led by UPND Siavonga Aspiring Candidate Mr Macdonald Chipenzi who also can’t condemn such behavior. The cadres were organized, majority put on UPND regalia and splashed symbols of UPND to a President who was on official duty and not campaigning. The so called electoral expert under the umbrella of UPND is happy with the incidence but would be the first one to speak if it happened to Mr HH. He who comes to equity, must come with
clean hands Mr Electoral expert. The danger with such incidences is that, other provinces like Muchinga, Northern, Luapula, Eastern and Copperbelt where PF is very strong may treat Mr. Hakahinde Hichilema even worse. Therefore, it’s incumbent upon himself to do the right thing, condemn and apologize so that all things can remain equal. At this stage, political leaders must be sensitive to such acts which will start fueling violence as we approach the 2021 general elections.

“If the 48 mansions without owners had instead been built for the Traditional Chiefs, and the 42 fire tenders had not been purchased for a whooping $1million each, and the luxury Gulfstream Jet not bought for one man and his few friends for millions of dollars, only for them to stretch their legs, there would have been enough medicine in hospitals and retirees would have received their long awaited dues. State resources must be guarded jealously, so that you don’t cry foul to Bally, when they run out because of unbridled corruption. This too, Bally will fix,” HH aka Bally. Our Comment. Who is Mr. Hichilema trying to fool? His privatisation group chose to reject competing bids of $20m by Victoria Falls Travel Bureau, $10m by Stocks and Stocks Ltd. and $9.4m by Marassa Holdings Ltd. But, instead, chose the lowest bid of $5.65m by Sun International of South Africa. Why did Mr. Hichilema choose to sell these valuable properties belonging to Zambian taxpayers for just $5 million instead of $20 million when it was available? Is he the right man to discuss corruption? We must be a special kind of intelligent people to entertain such political clowns. It turned out that the UPND presidential candidate worked out a deal to acquire a massive stake in the company in exchange for corruptly awarding them the lowest bid, and even incorporated Sun International (Zambia) Ltd, four months before the sale took place. What did the late President, Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, have to say about Mr. Hichilema? “The problem Mr. Hichilema is having now is the fact that he wants to cheat, to mislead, to show that he is what he is not. His understanding of politics is that it doesn’t matter; you can cheat, provided you get your goals!” Zambia needs proper leadership away from politics of deception. CHINESE READY TO RELOCATE TRADE FROM TOWNSHIPS councillor, who declined to be identified. Some technocrats told the Daily Nation that the regulation of foreign investment was done by several ministries and that the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) which issues investment permits attaches conditions. There had been complaints from Zambians that foreigners had hijacked businesses in the township as they brought in cheap products which were highly subsidised in their countries.

HE Kitwe City Council should not only target Chinese, but ensure that all foreigners conducting business in the townships are relocated to the Central Business District (CBD), Zambia Chinese Association (ZCA) has said. ZCA Copperbelt Chapter President Wang Xin said there were only six Chinese shops in township of Kitwe and had started the process of relocating to the city centre, though trading spaces had been a problem Kitwe Mayor, Christopher Kang’ombe, is tomorrow expected to lead a team of council workers to close shops of foreigners operating in townships following expiry of an ultimatum given to them to relocate to the CBD In an interview in Kitwe yesterday, Mr Wang said there were two Chinese shops in Chimwemwe, one in Miseshi, one in Ipusukilo , one in Chamboli and the other one in Ndeke town-
ship. "In all these six shops, we have started preparations to move, but lack of trading spaces had been a problem. In Chamboli and old Nakadoli, we have started the process of transferring ownership from Chinese to Zambians "In the other shops, we are doing clearance sales. We will follow what the Mayor has said, but he must not only target Chinese, but ensure that all foreigners conducting business in the
townships of Kitwe are removed when he starts his operation,'' Mr Wang said. Some councillors said such an operation was supposed to be carried by a multi-sectoral team of officers from the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Ministry of Home Affairs and those from the Local Government Ministry. "Yes, the idea may be good, but it is supposed to be a multi-sectoral approach and not to be driven by one individual,'' said one
Covid-19 impact bites By MUYANI SHINJABALE THE cancellation of the Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF) and other COVID-19 restrictions will further plunge down businesses which are already struggling, a number of business owners have lamented. ZITF runs every year for six day in July through the Heroes and Unity holiday. According to a Daily Nation survey in Ndola, businesses, especially in the hospitality industry, had been hit negatively, exacerbated by the cancellation of big events such as ZITF. In an interview, Fatmols Executive Lodge Manager, Susan Ng’ambi, said since the outbreak of COVID-19, 95 percent of the businesses had been lost. Ms Ng’ambi stated that the cancellation of the ZITF and other events had contributed to the plummeting in businesses. She said the trade fair was one of the moments when lodge business went well as it received clients from all over the country. She therefore, encouraged other
business entities to make use of the loans that Government had given in order to recover the losses incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a separate interview, Best Bed Lodge Manager, Stella Kazembe, said the ZITF brought in a lot of income from customers. Ms Kazembe indicated that since ZITF would not take place this year the lodges in Ndola would suffer huge losses as they always accommodated a lot customers during that period. She said the level of business had gone down this year because the lodge got over 80 percent income from customers. Ndola Chamber of Commerce and Industries President, John Samaras, said COVID-19 had seriously affected the business industry not only in Zambia but world over. Mr Samaras, therefore, appealed to Government to consider the affected industries such as, restaurants, lodges and the entire tourism sector. Government, he said, should help the hospitality industry rejuvenate their reserves and bring income to the country.
In the other shops, we are doing clearance sales. We will follow what the Mayor has said, but he must not only target Chinese, but ensure that all foreigners conducting business in the townships of Kitwe are removed when he starts his operation.

WE need to collectively deal with guardians earning a living on begging in order to rid the streets of menacing children, Kitwe Mayor Christopher Kang'ombe has said. Mr Kang'ombe said that the local authority was dealing with a social economic challenge that needed to be handled cautiously. He was speaking with the Daily Nation in an interview. A team of state police, officers from the Ministry of Youth and Sport as well as council police last month conducted a successful operation to relocate all the street children from the Central Business District (CBD). However, a number of street kids later trooped back to the street, much to the chagrin of residents and authorities.
Councillors aspiring for MP positions challenged By ROGERS KALERO
FORMER and serving councillors aspiring to stand as Members of Parliament (MP) must convince the electorate that they have capacity to deliver development by clearly stating what they achieved during their tenure as civic leaders, the Anti-Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) has said. AVAP Copperbelt Provincial Coordinator, Poster Jumbe, noted that there were councillors that were positioning themselves for adoption as MPS in the 2021 general elections. Mr Jumbe said, therefore, that councillors should point out their achievements during their tenure as civic leaders in order to gain the confidence of the electorate In an interview in Kitwe yesterday, he said while people have the right to aspire for any political office, it would be unacceptable to entrust people with a track record of illegal sale
of land to the position of MP. "Some councillors and former councillors, the only record they have is illegal sale of land and going after young girls because of the money they made from illegal plots. So those former councillors aspiring to be MPs must convince the electorate that they have capacity to deliver development,'' Mr Jumbe said. Mr Jumbe said people with interest to serve the community should not only surface during election times, but should be all weather friends so that people could see the love and passion they possess. He said those politicians claiming to care for the welfare of the Zambians or particular communities should engaged in community projects like empowering youths and women in their respective areas of interest. Mr Jumbe also advised youths serving in public offices like the Mayor and District Commissioner (DC) to humble themselves and respect those they were serving. He said President Edgar Lungu had tried his best to appoint youths in public offices, but the attitude of some of them left a lot to be desired.
Kitwe Council ponders next move on street kids
The Mayor has thus called for collective effort among stakeholders to address the root cause and also to deal with elderly men and women, who tag along with children asking for alms on the streets. Mr Kang’ombe pointed out that there were also some guardians, who
assign children to go on street-begging missions as a way of living. "The challenge we have is that some guardians allow their children to beg on the streets so that they can help make ends meet in their homes," the Mayor observed. Mr Kang'ombe noted that if parents had other
ways of earning a living, children would not be allowed or sent to flood the streets for coins. He said that giving the parents what to do was what would make it possible for the children not to get back to streets. The Mayor further confirmed that the children that were being spotted on the streets were those that had homes and went into hiding when the operation was undertaken. "We also need to sustain the operations if we really want the kids off the Central Business District. The kids went back to the streets upon noticing that the situation had normalised and that nobody was giving them a tough time while there," he noted.

s = 45m Terminal Velocity When the body is falling, it experiences air resistance. The air resistance increases as the speed increases. When the body reaches at a certain highest speed, the air resistance becomes equal to the weight of the body. From hence forth, the body will be falling at a constant speed. Terminal velocity is therefore defined as the velocity at which the air resistance acting on a free falling object becomes equal to the weight of the falling object. Note that terminal velocity can also be achieved if the object is falling through a liquid. In such a case the resistance to the motion will be offered by the liquid
PHYSICS MECHANICS (Linear Motion) Part 2 § Describe qualitatively the motion of bodies falling in a uniform gravitation field with and without air resistance § Demonstrate that the acceleration of a free fall near the earth is constant. § Plot the graph of free fall motion § Describe terminal velocity. In the previous lesson, we looked at how to analyse the motion of a body. In addition, we derived the four equations that are used to solve problems on the motion of objects. It is also important to state that the motion we looked at was horizontal. In this lesson, we shall study the motion of a body falling freely. This sometimes referred to as free fall motion. If a body is dropped from a certain height, it will fall towards the earth under the influence of the force of gravity. This implies that the body will be accelerating towards the earth. This acceleration is called acceleration due to gravity or acceleration of free fall. This acceleration is denoted by letter(g).
The velocity of a free falling object will be increasing from rest until the terminal velocity is reached. The body with the lager surface area will reach terminal velocity faster than the body with the smaller surface area. For example, a plan paper will reach the terminal velocity faster than a piece of stone. Motion of the body thrown upwards As explained earlier, for the body moving upwards, acceleration due to gravity is taken to be negative (g = -10m/s2). This implies that as the body moves upwards, its speed is decreasing until the object stops. It should be noted that when the object is thrown upwards, it will reach a certain point where it stops momentarily before it begins to fall. The point where the object stops momentarily is the maximum height it reaches and the final velocity(v) at this point is 0m/s. See the figures below that show what happens when the object is thrown upwards.
g = +10m/s or g = 10m/s for a body falling. g = - 10m/s2 for a body moving upwards When the body is falling towards the earth, air resistance acting against it increases as its speed increases. This implies that, the body with larger surface area will experience more air resistance than the body with a smaller surface area. However, if both bodies fall freely in the place without air resistance, they will reach the surface of the earth at the same
time. This experiment was conducted by Galileo. The figures below show and experiment on the free fall motion.

In part A of figure 1 and 2, the coil and the feature were allowed to fall freely in the presence of air. The observation was that the coin reached the earth first and then the feather followed. This is because the feather experienced a lot of air resistance due to its surface area. In part B of both figures, the air was removed from the apparatus and allow the coin and feather to fall freely. The observation was that they both reached the earth at the same time. This is because the acceleration (g= 9.8m/s2) is the same despite them having different masses. Example 1 1. A body was falling freely from rest at a certain height. If air resistance is negligible. (a) What is its final velocity after 3 s? (b) Calculate the distance covered in this time. Solutions (a) v = u +at u = 0m/s [ from rest] a = g = 10m/s2 t = 3s v = 0m/s + 10m/s x 3s v = 30m/s

Terminal Velocity When the body is falling, it experiences air resistance. In such a case the resistance to the motion will be offered by the liquid The velocity of a free falling object will be increasing from rest until the

Near the surface of the earth, that value of the acceleration due to gravity is constant and has the value of 9.8m/s2 which is sometimes approximated as 10m/s2. When solving the problems involving the equations of motion, (a) is replaced by (g). In addition, the value g is assigned a positive sign (+) for a body falling and a negative sign (-) for a body moving upwards against the force of gravity. This is illustrated as follows: 2

HOROSCOPE
Horoscope 07 July 2020
Aries (March 21-April 19) The best way to challenge yourself is by exploring something new. Probe unknown territory and not only will you really stimulate your brain in a whole new way, you will create a situation where you can really be proud of yourself. You could try something that intimidates everyone else, or you could tackle something that has always been scary to you. Have a particular phobia? This is the day to try to conquer it.
Taurus (April 20-May 20) Today, you need to be careful of the people who try to cozy up to you, because they are the people who are definitely going to be up to no good! If someone is going on and on about how wonderful you are, it’s not because they know it to be a fact; it’s because they want something from you. If you are willing to make the transaction, that’s fine. But you need to be a conscious participant. Don’t let anyone take advantage of you.
Gemini (May 21-June 20) You and a close friend or romantic partner are in a very good point in your relationship. The two of you are good partners, but from time to time you do have to compromise. That’s only normal. Today, make sure you’re not the one who gives up the most in a negotiation. This battle is one you have to fight in order to maintain the equilibrium in the relationship. So don’t budge, and be ready to explain why you won’t budge.
DAILY
14
They respect you, and they’ll give you what you need.
for the right reasons.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Nothing is quite as it seems today, so this great flow of energy you’re feeling is going to be hard to deal with. You’ll be like a racehorse prancing at the starting gate, eager to go forward but unable to. But things happen when they need to happen, so getting frustrated or assuming that other people are causing the delay is just a waste of time. Distract yourself with something else, anything that takes your mind off things.
Libra (September 23-October 22) Follow each and every impulse to explore you have today, no matter how far off track it might take you. Finding a new interest or career prospect is the best gift you can give yourself right now, so don’t hold back on your curiosity. Listen to it and go wherever it takes you. Delve deeper into the topics and ideas that intrigue you. They are sure to alert you to someone or something that is, in turn, sure to make you happy.
Capricorn (December 22-January 19) Spend as much time as you can with the people in your life who have power, because you could benefit from it. Right now, the best way to get the inspiration you need in your life is to watch someone who is at the top of their game. Watch what they do and observe how they treat other people. Learning how they do what they do will provide you with a useful blueprint and help you see how you can follow them down the path to success.
Leo (July 23-August 22) It’s time to start making plans for your next vacation. You may not know exactly when it will be, but you can still plan. Visit some websites and ask friends about their favorite jaunts. Focus on information gathering for now. Avoid booking anything or making any other type of commitment. Now is the time for assessing different options and just sitting with different ideas. After a while, your choice will be an obvious one.
Scorpio (October 23-November 21) You can’t be responsible for the behavior of other people, so don’t feel bad if a friend lets an inappropriate comment slip out or if a co-worker makes a bad move in front of the big boss. You are only responsible for your behavior. You might think you’re helping someone by telling them how to act in a certain situation where they might not be comfortable, but unless they ask for your advice, do not give it. They will only see you as trying to control them.
Aquarius (January 20-February 18) Juggling your commitments to make more time to spend with the people you love is going to be especially tricky right now. Your schedules aren’t going to align right away, and something has to give. All of this negotiation is getting frustrating, and certain people may get upset. But you have the creativity to make sure you give everyone the attention that they need now.
Virgo (August 23-September 22) Even though you’re excited about something new that’s coming down the road, you shouldn’t stop paying attention to what’s going on today. Don’t rush ahead with things before you are ready to get started on them. And before you can start them, you have to finish up what you’re doing now. In relationship terms, you have to make sure you are totally over someone from your past before you can move forward with a new person into your future. Make sure you’re doing it
Sagittarius (November 22-December 21) You are definitely at the center of the action right now, which is right where you need to be! You’re never more happy than when you are needed, so you should be very happy today! You’re totally in sync with other people, which will make it easy to get things done and have fun while doing so. Everyone is going to be communicating honestly and openly with each other, and you could be drawn to a very interesting new person.
HEST WORLD AUCTIONEERS LIMITED Times Printpack (Z) Limited
Pisces (February 19-March 20) Leave the gossip alone today unless you want to be accused of being a blabbermouth! Your self control is at an all-time low now, so if you hear a juicy secret you’ll probably let it spill, which could lead to some time in the doghouse for you. When the conversation turns to the latest drama in someone’s life, you should either change the subject or pretend that you suddenly have something else to do. Don’t tempt yourself. You might not be able to resist. (Astrology.com)

KENYA ANNOUNCES PHASED REOPENING FROM CORONAVIRUS LOCKDOWN
NAIROBI (Reuters) - Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta announced on Monday a phased reopening of the country from a COVID-19 lockdown, lifting restrictions on travel in and out of the capital Nairobi and allowing air travel to resume. Kenyatta said the country has reached a reasonable level of preparedness for a partial loosening of restrictions but urged caution and warned against reckless behaviour. “Today I order and direct that the cessation of movement into and out of the Nairobi metropolitan area, Mombasa county and Mandera county that is currently enforced shall lapse today or at 4 a.m. (0100 GMT) tomorrow, Tuesday the 7th of July 2020,” said Kenyatta in a televised address. passenger flights are scheduled to restart on July 15, Kenyatta said, while international travel will resume from Aug. 1 Mosque and churches will be allowed to host services again, but for a maximum of an hour with only
100 worshippers allowed at a time. Kenya had confirmed nearly 7,900 cases of the coronavirus as of July 6, with 160 deaths, with cases continuing to climb. On Saturday, 389 new infections
were reported in the country’s biggest single-day jump. The outbreak has battered the economy, with the finance ministry projecting growth to slow to 2.5% this year from 5.4% last year, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Kenyatta said the reopening of the country came with risks, and urged Kenyans to take precautions. “Although the path to recovery is rocky and uneven, it is navigable,” he said. He nevertheless extended the current nationwide nightly curfew between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. for a further 30 days. He also warned that should the situation worsen over the next few weeks the country could be locked down again. “In the next 21 days we shall study patterns of interactions and the spread of the disease. Any trends that signal a worsening of the pandemic, we will have no choice but to return to lockdown,” the president said. “For us to revive the economy, reopen and remain open, the government and all citizens must pull together,” he added. Japan floods, mudslides kill at least 44 as streets turn to rivers
TOKYO - Torrential rain hit Japan’s southwestern island of Kyushu on Monday, with at least one more river bursting its banks, as the death toll from three days of floods and mudslides rose to 44, including 14 at an old people’s home. Evacuation orders were issued for more than half a million island residents, as well as evacuation advisories for tens of thousands more in western Japan, broadcaster NHK said. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said the rain was forecast to head east by Wednesday and ordered round-the-clock search and rescue operations. Ten people were missing, NHK said. TV pictures showed streets turned into rivers rushing by at waist high, a collapsed bridge, upturned cars and a helicopter winching a man to safety from an inundated house. The old people’s home was flooded in the island’s central prefecture of Kumamoto. NHK did not give details. “I urge all citizens to carefully follow the information provided by local authorities and stay alert to take actions to protect their own lives,” Abe said at the start of a government task force meeting. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said 40,000 members of the Self-Defence Force were involved in rescue missions. He added that evacuation centres were also working on preventing the spread of the coronavirus by distributing disinfectant and asking evacuees to self-distance. The floods are Japan’s worst natural disaster since Typhoon Hagibis killed about 90 people in October. - Reuters

Tunisia’s Ennahdha to reevaluate stance on PM Fakhfakh’s gov’t
Statement by biggest parliamentary force comes as opposition pressures PM to resign over alleged conflict of interest.
ENNAHDHA, the biggest party in Tunisia’s Parliament, has said it will review its stance on supporting the country’s fragile coalition government over an alleged conflict of interest involving Prime Minister Elyes Fakhfakh. “The suspicion of a conflict of interest by the prime minister ... has harmed the image of the governing coalition, and requires a reevaluation of the [party’s] position about the government,” Ennahdha said in a statement on Sunday. It gave no details of what
action it would consider taking, but reports citing sources close to the party said the withdrawal of its seven ministers from the government was among the possible options. Ennahdha’s statement will increase pressure on the governing coalition that was finally formed in February following an election in September last year that produced a fractured Parliament. Fakhfakh has rejected accusations of corruption but is under pressure from the opposition to resign after an independent member of
parliament published documents last month indicating that companies the prime minister owns shares in had won deals worth 44 million dinars ($15m) from the state. Fakhfakh said he has sold his shares in the companies but has told Parliament he is ready to stop down if any violation is proved. A judge has opened an investigation into the allegations against Fakhfakh, and the anticorruption minister has assigned a public watchdog to look into the issue and report back within three weeks. - Aljazeera

FIFA CHALLENGED www.dailynation.info

…Send normalisation committee to deal with FAZ squabbles says Shenko By MICHAEL MIYOBA FORMER Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) committee member Elijah “Shenko” Chileshe has challenged world football governing body FIFA to send a normalisation committee to deal with the wrangles at FAZ. Damiano Academy manager Damiano Mutale and Patson Lusaka sued FAZ in an attempt to stop the FAZ elections, a case which was referred to the Constitutional Court. And expelled FAZ vice president Richard Kazala, sued Kamanga and
his general secretary Adrian Kashala for contempt of court. However, Chileshe who was suspended as a FAZ committee member in January 2020 by FAZ president Andrew Kamanga before the National Sports Council of Zambia NSCZ lifted’ the suspension the same month said a normalisation committee from FIFA will help end the squabbles at FAZ. In an interview, Chileshe said for now individuals who have taken FAZ to court can only trust the Zambian courts to resolve the wrangles because efforts to engage the
association have not been fruitful. Chileshe said the onus is on FAZ to find a way to resolve the wrangles as directed by FIFA who have given Zambia 10 days to end the squabbles or risk being sanctioned. “The letter from FIFA is not for the people who have taken FAZ to court, it’s up to FAZ. FIFA has stated that FAZ should resolve all the issues because as one of those who is aggrieved, we have tried to reason with FAZ and there has been no result so the last option is to go to court,” Chileshe said. He said both FAZ and FIFA are not
above the Zambian law which guides individuals in the country and asked FAZ to do the right thing. Chileshe wondered why FIFA had failed to act on the numerous concerns raised by the aggrieved individuals who have taken FAZ to court when they are quick to issue warnings when FAZ reports. “For people to go to court, they are following the law of the land and FIFA is not above the law of the Land. What people want is justice. “FIFA have got a full box of letters from Zambia where a lot of people have complained but FIFA has not
acted on the complaints, to me the highest corrupt institution is FIFA, some of the letters they have been writing don’t even make sense,” he said. “I want to meet FIFA officials personally because FIFA doesn’t have all the information and when people are complaining, you call all of them to find out what is wrong that is what we expect from FIFA. “As one of the aggrieved, I would like FIFA to send a normalization committee for now that is when the problems at FAZ can be resolved,” Chileshe said.

…No group photos, FAZ directs clubs
GRACE CHAILE LESOETSA
By MICHAEL MIYOBA BALL boys, taking team photos and pre and post-match interviews will not be allowed when the league resumes on July 18, says Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) League manager, Brian Mulenga. Mulenga said teams wishing to take group photos will only be allowed if they are able to observe social distancing. He urged all Super Division and National Division one clubs to strictly adhere to the health regulations when football resumes. And FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said the measures and guidelines have been a product of extensive research and consultation. Kamanga who last week met clubs while in the company of Ministry of Sports director of sports John Zulu, National Sports Council acting general secretary Raphael Mulenga and Ministry of Health representative Raymond Hamoonga encouraged all clubs to keep safe by observing the guidelines set by the government under the new normal. “The expectation is that once we have handled the Super League and National Division one well, we could press to consider the lower leagues. We are conscious of the heavy demands placed on us by the authorities that may be beyond most of our lower leagues,” Kamanga said. Meanwhile, Hamoonga emphasized the need for clubs to strictly adhere to the guidelines to guard against the Covid-19 pandemic. Hamoonga who is also from the Zambia National Public Health Institute said the Super Division risk being halted again if Covid-19 cases continue to escalate because of noncompliance.
Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi will ‘end his career’ at Barcelona - Bartomeu LIONEL Messi will “end his working and footballing life at Barcelona”, the club’s president has said. Josep Maria Bartomeu dismissed reports the Argentina international, 33, was unwilling to renew his current contract when it expires in 2021. “We are negotiating with many players but Messi has explained to us he wants to stay,” Bartomeu told Spanish network Movistar. “And so we’re going to enjoy him
for much longer.” Bartomeu was speaking following the Catalan club’s 4-1 La Liga win at Villareal on Sunday evening, which saw them close the gap to leaders Real Madrid to four points. Earlier, a Sergio Ramos penalty ensured Real edged to a 1-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao. The spot-kick was awarded following a VAR review, while Bilbao had a penalty appeal of their own turned down, leading Bartomeu to question the fairness of the
technology. “I saw the game in Bilbao and although I don’t like to say it, I’ll repeat that VAR is not being used as it should be,” he said. “Since the season returned after the Covid-19 crisis it has not been equal, that has been reflected in the results and it looks as if it always favours the same team.” In response, Real coach Zinedine Zidane said he was “tired” of his side’s victories being criticised. -BBC
VETERAN Paul Kalumba at the weekend scooped the 2020 National Scrabble Championship held at Tecla Lodge in Lusaka. Eight-time national champion Kalumba popularly known as PYK scored 12 wins out of 16 games and an impressive spread of 1194 to emerge victorious and walked away with a trophy and K2, 000 at a two-day tournament held by the Scrabble Association of Zambia.. In second place was the former champion Justin Chansa who won 12 games but had a lesser spread of 1176 after he lost the final match to Kalumba. Chansa got a trophy and K1, 000. Veteran Patrick Mpundu settled for third position with 12 wins but a lesser spread of 815 after he tumbled twice to Chansa and was edged out of the finals. Mpundu pocketed K600 and a trophy. Ndola based Frank Chitambala took fourth place with a prize of K400 while immediate past champion, Isaac Mwape had a tough tournament, finishing a distant ninth position with only eight wins. Kalumba, Mpundu and Chansa were yesterday jostling for the Masters Championship at the same venue. The Masters is an exclusive event where the top 10 rated players battle it out.
