E I have always been crazily ambitious. New ideas come into my head everyday and some

seem so out of reach that my brain goes on overdrive just to think how I can make this dream of mine come true. My dreams and goals literally take over my life because I have this fear of not fulfilling my goals and not being happy or successful. Unfortunately for me, my goals have always been huge, but even though the jump to get there can scare me I still go ahead, because I always think ‘what if?’… If you don’t try you will never know; I’m a big believer of trying, going and doing and not just sitting on your arse wishing you was doing something or being somewhere else. Everyone has a dream, but only a selected few will go for them and be in a state of accomplishment and happiness. Going for your dreams is a huge risk, but you only live one life, don’t just wait around for those dreams to come true, you’ve got to work for it … you have got to try. Don’t just live your live going by the rules, following what everyone else is doing and pretty much being a sheep. Go by your own rules, do what you want to do and do it because it makes you happy!

One of the things that I am most commonly referred to as is ‘ambitious’. Whenever I have a dream, I set out and do it; no matter what my age is or circumstance. I always loved to write when I was younger and I would write countless books and stories. When I was in year 6 I completed my first novel, and I poured my heart and soul into getting it publish. With the help of my grandmother and family, the book did indeed get published just as I was entering year 7. The whole process was definitely one of the highlights of my life and I promised myself then and there that whenever I had a dream; no matter how big or small it was I would go after it. I am a strong believer in dreaming. Achieving bigger and better things; striving for your goals and making the most of every day. One of my greatest fears is that I won’t accomplish everything I want to do in life, which is why I always try to cram as much into every day-I am always on the go!

I really hope you enjoy this issue. Each issue means so much to Jasmine and I, and we truly hope you enjoy reading it as much as we love making it for you! Kisses! Laura x

We were cautioned as children to never grow up, but secretly we wanted nothing more. We knew that it was years away, so it was still safe to dream about it, though all the more exciting because we knew that someday, inevitably, we would. We were led to believe that because we spent our childhood dreaming about being an adult that once we are adults the dreaming stops. The imagination runs dry and the heart feels less intensely. The real world was going to slam us down in our wild tracks. Once we had made the transition, to become unrecognizable version of ourselves, the world was at our fingertips and the possibilities were endless. Although the real world was a hard and difficult place we still kept our fluid imagination, still have our intense heart, and still have our wild tracks to run on. The dreaming may have stopped, but that’s only because it turned into something so much better. It turned into passion. See, why would we need to dream when we can create the same excited feeling of dreaming and a closer proximity to reality? It’s no longer acceptable to retreat into our dream world, instead having to survive in this world. To do that, like a fearless child would, we live through our passions, our interests, and our loves of this world. Our passions are what we live for now, just as our dreams were what we lived for during the tough times. When I was a child my dream was to be an actress; conventional and just like every other little girl. I went to art school and did an acting class thinking that there must be a trace of the little girl dream still left. I loved it and it seemed to spark a flame that was never lost, only hidden amongst mountainous pressures that we all face. I just wish I was able to remember if it was the same feeling that I’d dreamt it would feel, as a kid.

“I have too much going on in my brain to just be a face, an image, without a voice behind it,” the hazel-eyed, tousled blonde tells Elle magazine. Duly noted; Erin Wasson is a freaking chameleon of the fashion industry. Her initial step into the world of fashion began in 1999, when she won first place in the Kim Dawson model search. Shortly after, Erin debuted on the runways of Paris, Milan, and London, walking down the runway for huge names such as Balenciaga and Costume National. Inevitably, Erin soon appeared on the covers of numerous renowned magazines, from Harper’s Bazaar to Vogue Paris. Won over by her perfectly sculpted cheekbones and piercing eyes, the biggest names in beauty tapped Erin for a slew of beauty campaigns. Erin racked up quite an impressive track record in only seven years, but this was not enough for the ambitious American beauty.




In 2008, Erin released Low Luv, a jewelry line with tribalinfluenced metalware and titanium appeal. The line strongly reflected Erin’s personal style, an important quality that separates Erin from the pack. In addition to being a model, jewelry designer, and American muse, Erin styled her second show for pal Alexander Wang in February of 2008. A mere six months later, Erin signed a three-year design deal with California surf culture brand RVCA. Similar to her jewelry line, pieces in the RVCA x Erin Wasson collection were highly representative of Erin’s laidback style and rocker chic attitude.

In 2012, Erin took her creative ambitions to the next level by taking on the role of a vampire in the American horror film“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”. Erin Wasson is one of the few modern icons that can truly say they have done it all. It would not be too assumptive to say that Erin has conquered the fashion industry. She has influenced the fashion industry with her own voice and identity. Most people are subject to the direction of fashion, from the consumers to the models.


However, Erin has succeeded in gracefully defying the norm and permeating her own style and personality into every fashion endeavor. She is not a blank canvas for makeup, nor is she merely a mannequin for designer clothing. Erin Wasson is a wild-hearted, free-spirited icon that is without a doubt, here to stay.

Girl that

French model Marine Deleeuw has dominated almost all the catwalks this spring 2014 season with her high cheekbones, and ambitious brown eyes making her the most in demand model of the season. Marine was born in Valenciennes, France. She was discovered in 2010 at a Belgian top model contest and began modelling at the age of 16. She made her catwalk debut in the Spring/Summer 2013 shows at New York fashion week. Since then she has caught the attention of countless fashion designers and was named one of the top 10 models of that season on Style.com. She is strutting her way to the top very quickly indeed! This top model in the making is already a favourite amongst fashion bloggers and is on Models.com “Hot List”. I can already picture her starring in numerous campaigns and on Vogue Italia’s cover. What a spectacular Ready-To-Wear season we have just witnessed; with designers presenting less of a traditional fashion show but more of a creative production; finding new and innovative ways to present their ideas behind the collection, to the fashion industry spectators.

The RTW season has been around for just over 70 years. That’s 70 years of designer’s dreams we have been memorised by, as they parade before us and 70 years of the most memorial and beautiful garments seen; all individual visual representations of the designer’s dreams and ambitions for the label. The shows, these days, are speedily turning into larger than life theatrical productions, where it has become just as much about the feeling that the brand exudes and their chosen aesthetic, than the actual clothes themselves.

This RTW season, shows were not just “shows” but instead were true displays of inventiveness. Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton really grasped this idea turning his collection into a whole theatrical production. The audience was warped out of their beleaguered reality and mysteriously placed into a somewhat surrealistic darkness; the show consisting of elements that were seen through his earlier seasons, demonstrating a sense of nostalgia towards his time at the fashion house. The set included escalators, clocks, a giant water fountain and carousel which creating a figure of eight for the models to meander around. Nausheen Shah, a journalist for Marie Claire, described the show as “magical, overwhelming to the senses and just the proper dose of creativity to jolt us back into our favourite state of reality – la mode.” Although we farewell Marc Jacobs, and his endless work at Louis Vuitton, we can’t wait to see what he does next at his own namesake label in the future!

Fashion has, as all things do, progressed with society, adapting with the times and developing over the years into a massive, multi-faceted empire consisting of designers, magazines, models, and haute couture lines. But in the midst of consistent change, one thing has stayed constant: the exclusivity of the industry.

These bloggers have opened a window to couture to the public and revolutionized the distribution of the designers’ genius.

The presence and work of these bloggers has made the high fashion industry so much more accessible to the general public, and has begun to eliminate the class barriers the industry has been famous for upholding.

DARE TO DREAM Everyone needs a dream, the thing they aspire to achieve, what motivates their lives. For many successful fashion designers of the past and present it always seemed impossible. Be inspired by these designers and the journeys they made to become fashion legends that will never be forgotten.


GABRIELLE ‘COCO’ CHANEL Raised by Nuns within an Orphanage, in the French Countryside, Chanel knew from an early age that her life would be far greater than the menial and poor one that was set out for her. Chanel climbed her way up the social ladder and opened her first small clothes shop in 1910 simply selling hats. But it wasn’t long before her name became the talk of France. Expanding into more stores and beginning to create clothes, her big break was one that was completely unexpected. Making a dress out of an old jersey attracted a large amount of attention and had Chanel making copies for many women throughout France. From there on perfumes and clothes were released, which changed how the world viewed women’s fashion. No corsets, Little Black Dresses, Chanel Suits … she even transformed black from depressing to chic. Coco Chanel will never be forgotten as a revolutionary dreamer who still lives on in the wardrobes of many today.


VIVIENNE WESTWOOD

Vivienne Westwood was brought up in a stable by a humble family that lived within the Derbyshire countryside; Vivienne’s life seemed perfectly planned out for her; a marriage, a child, and a position as a teacher in a local school. But it just didn’t seem right. Vivienne knew that she couldn’t be further from her dreams and what seemed like the perfect average life for many, was exactly what Vivienne didn’t want to be part of. Divorce soon came and Vivienne was spun into a world of the punk revolution, due to her marriage and family with Malcom McLaren, an Art Student and future Manager of the Sex Pistols.

1971 was Vivienne’s first year as part of the fashion industry. With her designs filling the store McLaren set up on Kings road in London, she became the centre of the punk revolution. As Vivienne’s designs grew stronger she later began dressing the Sex Pistols, which allowed her to firmly define her place in the fashion industry and to help her to achieve her once unthinkable dreams.


Growing up in a working class family on a London Estate, McQueen experienced terrible teasing at his time in school due to his homosexuality, which led to him dropping out at the age of 16 without any educational degrees to his name. Finding work in a men’s suit store, McQueen worked hard to reach his dreams, but not without criticism. McQueen’s first big break came in the form of Givenchy in 1996; given the role of Chief Designer, McQueen sought to bring, edgy and controversial designs to the runway. But this was not what the brand wanted. Although they were a successful partnership neither the house or McQueen were happy and in 2000, with help from Gucci, Alexander McQueen expanded his private company creating the brand everyone loves today. Alexander was not your typical designer, even throughout all of his success it should be noted, McQueen dressed for comfort and was not shy about his lack of traditional good looks. But he never let anything deter him for his dreams, and for that he will always be remembered.

odelling is undoubtedly one of the most sought after professions amongst teenage girls. A widespread of modelling competitions have arisen within the last ten or so years; with thousands of adolescents entering model searches and reality shows promising the winner a contract with an established modelling agency.

From the pages in fashion magazines to runway shows, modelling looks like an easy, yet extraordinarily glamorous job to have; one which assumingly guarantee’s large pay checks for simply dressing up in this season’s couture, and sitting in the makeup chair for an hour or two. Not to mention Victoria Secret angels, where their days are spent frolicking on the beach in St Barths; or mingling with A-List performers whilst walking the annual Victoria Secret Fashion Show.

“..sitting in the make up chair for an hour or two..” Behind the illusion and the fantasy of the glossy pages of high fashion magazines and behind each runway show lie a lot of time, dedication and hard work from the entire team to produce a flawless final product.


One of the largest pressuress that models around the world are faced with is to maintain certain measurements, with most clients and agencies preferring their models to fit 34-24-34 inches or less. Although many models are blessed with fast metabolisms, which allow them to reach these measurements with ease, for many, strict diet regimes and intense exercise routines are common; which sometimes even develop into eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia.

“..preferring their models to fit 34-24-34 inches or less.” One top of the expectation that models must maintin perfect proportions, the modelling shoots they undergo are far from ‘glamorous’. Most fashion magazines shoot their editorials at least three months before the magazine goes to print and in various locations all over the world. This means that you could be shooting a swimwear editorial in the freezing cold or modelling winter wear whilst it’s hot and humid. Alongside these uncomfortable conditions, non-stop travelling is part of a well-established fashion model’s career. Although this sounds idealistic, the tedious hours (a shoot can take up to five or so days, meaning that each shot can take hours to get) and the constant mobility by yourself can be lonely and exhausting.

Each dream is a ticking clock of hope and when it explodes all the hard work and passion will feel as if it’s finally paid off.

When I think of the word ‘dre a ms’ it reminds me of an echo, impulsing through my mind and reminding me of all the things I have wished for and would love to capture. The good thing is you can take them with you wherever you go since they are your deepest thoughts and wishes which will never give up on you and which no-one can take away from you. No negative words nor feelings come with them - just hope. It does not matter if your dream is to become a model, a fashion designer, an editor or a photographer as long as you believe in yourself; anything is truly possible. Each dream is a ticking clock of hope and when it explodes all the hard work and passion will feel as if it’s finally paid off. It won’t be easy, and you will suffer a fair load of disappointment and rejection but I promise, it will be worth it. Dreaming is one of the strongest characteristics of humans and can help you to realize things which seem impossible; like a little girl from the countryside who becomes one of the best models in the world or a young boy who sketches things he sees in his dreams and becomes one of the best fashion designers of all time. Fashion is full of dreams; after all the many labels and businesses in the industry are built upon dreaming and passion. Think of all the designers creating such beautiful treasures, almost too perfect to wear. Nearly all of them started as struggling fashion students, admiring those who they aspire to be.

NEW FACES MODELS


EDIE CAMPBELL

22-year-old model and history of art graduate, Edie Campbell is giving worldwide phenomenons such as fellow Brit beauty, Cara Delevingne, a run for their money. And since her drastic chop, from long brown hair to a more edgy, jet-black, mullet-styled hair, jobs have been flying in left, right and centre, with designers and brands such as Alexander McQueen, Saint Laurent & Burberry having her star in their campaigns. As well as making her mark on the runway, Edie has also been seen gracing the covers of global Vogue publications, ELLE France, Numero and LOVE Magazine.


ASHLEIGH GOOD

Newcomer, Ashleigh Good has quickly become the queen of runway, with being seen down the runway over 63 times in the 2013 shows, including, Valentino, Miu Miu and Versace, as well as being one of the lesbian brides for Chanel HC. Ashleigh has also been seen on the covers of Numero and Russh Magazine and inside several Vogue magazines. From waiting tables in New Zealand to walking for Givenchy and Alexander Wang; as her first ever shows, this 21-year-old model has no doubt got plenty of strides on the runway to go!


CATHERINE MCNEIL

Since winning Girlfriend Rimmel Model Search at the age of 14, Cathetine McNeil has been seen all around the world, with Vogue Paris being her first ever cover. This Australian model skyrocketed to supermodel status in 2007, and has world with the greats, such as Mario Testino, Mert & Marcus and Patrick Demarchelier. Plus, McNeil has been seen in countless high-profile runway shows for brands such as, Burberry, Oscar De La Renta and Dior. And now at the age of 23, the 5 ft 11 model will most likely be seen in more shows, advertising campaigns and magazines, as you can’t help but love this Aussie starlight.


ONDRIA HARDIN

At the age of 16, Ondria Hardin has been seen many times walking alongside some of the greatest models. This American models has walked for Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana and Prada to name a few and has been seen in i-D Magazine, Vogue Italia & China, Russh, Harpers Bazaar and Vanity Fair. By having booked Prada and Chanel campaigns at such an early stage in her career, we will undoubtedly see her elsewhere throughout the years.

BE A SUCESSFUL CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF MY DESIRED MAGAZINE For approximately a year, I have been dreaming of becoming a creative director, and being the one who works to create beautiful imagery. There are several magazines who I dream of working for, I just can’t choose who’s my number one choice as I love their magazine so much. These are Russh Magazine, LOVE, Vogue Netherlands or Vogue Spain, and Rika Magazine. CHARITY I want to go to Africa to help communities; I want to go back to Brazil and help develop our partner school in the slums; I want to create a foundation to make other people’s dreams true; raise money for Help For Heroes; I just want to help. OPEN A BOUTIQUE Like Laura mentions, we dream of opening a boutique, filled with pieces that we love and that represent our style and us. Soho Street … here we come! SKYDIVE Jumping out of a plane, don’t you think that sounds great!? I’m a serious adrenaline junky and this is just one of the things on my crazy bucketlist. FASHION WEEK Fashion week is a crazy madness that just appeals to me so much. I dream of being at Alexander Wang, Haider Ackermann, Diesel Black Gold and Anthony Vaccarello … to name a few …


ROAD TRIPS I would love to get a vintage Ford Mustang and drive all around America, a vintage Volkswagen and travel around Oz and also, I dream of getting a quad bike and visiting multiple bitches in Ibiza. WORK WITH MISS C I would love to work with Carine Roitfeld, I think she is an amazing business woman, editor and creative director. To work with her on a project or even work for her would be seriously incredible!

FASHION DIRECTOR OF RUSSH I am obsessed with the beautiful editorials in Russh Magazine; and buy the magazine religiously. It is one of my dreams to work at Russh Magazine as the Fashion Director or editor; and take part in producing such gorgeous images. WEDDING PLANNER I love everything about weddings. The gowns, the flowers, the location, the hair, the makeup, the love in the air…everything! MEET MY SPONSORSHIP CHILDREN I hope to visit my sponsor children in Burkina Faso as soon as possible; and help their community as much as I can. It would be an absolute life changing experience to see how those in third world countries live; and the differences in living standards in their village and my city. PFW I have never visited Paris, but I imagine that it’s absolutely magical. To top off the beauty of it; I would love to be invited to view a fashion week show, preferably Haider Ackermann or Chloe! MEET A.WANG He is just the coolest. Enough said. LIVE IN NYC I am itching to find a tiny apartment in the beautiful city and a job I love…a girl can dream, right?
