A 2017 of rules that are certain and fair

S

implifying the bureaucratic machine is the main thing to do. A refrain that for decades it recurs from one mouth to another among the various political turns that took the fate of Italy in hand. Years go by, but nothing changes. But to tell the truth, for Italian boating something has changed, but for the worse. Even if it has to be said that the last Renzi government partly corrected the blunders of the past, and in particular within the period of Prime Minister Monti. But what has been done is not enough. The Association Nautica Italiana has drawn up a "manifesto" in which they have inserted a list of priorities that cannot be postponed. Among these is the crux of taxation and transparency, but also specific demands are being made for the development of the sector. Paolo Andreozzi, flipping through the pages that you find in this issue of Tendenze Nautiche, raises another problem: that of occasional renting. Introduced to tackle to phenomenon of illegal rental, is still creating serious damage to those who do this work professionally. This is a theme, everything to be reviewed.

Interview with PAOLO ANDREOZZI

Marinasarda at the top for summer 2017 with 3 new boats The marketing consultant of Porto Cervo company illustrates the projects for the new year and points the finger at occasional renting: "It is an unfair competition that penalizes us professionals, the Government intervenes to protect companies like ours "

ummer 2017 already promises to be interesting, at least on the front of tourists in Sardinia. By rumors that come from shipping companies it seems that for the summer months there are already several reservations. In short, the positive trend generated last summer seems to be destined to continue. Marinasarda, with its fleet and its men, is preparing to face the best season yet and not only throughout the summer, but in the spring too, revealing the mantra now followed as: lengthen the tourist season as much as possible on the island.Paolo Andreozzi, large maritime tourism expert

and marketing consultant of Marinasarda, deals the cards to 2017 from a business perspective, illustrating projects and prospects of the same historic company of charters and boat and yacht rental in Porto Cervo. But there is a critical issue also to be raised, and in turn resolved as soon as possible: that regarding the charterers of occasional-use boats that risk to seriously compromise the activities of those who exercise the profession on a daily basis, putting important men and investments in the picture. But let's go for order. Paolo Andreozzi, first of all, what will 2017 be for tourism in Sardinia and specifically on the Smeralda Coast? “From our indications it will be an important year, so much so that there are already a great deal of ferry reservations for the summer months and this gives us hope. But the real goal, to Sardinia and the Smeralda Coast, is to stretch the tourist season as much as possible. 2016 gave encouraging signs in this regard, and we hope that they can also be confirmed for this new year. The goal is to bring people from the spring, therefore starting from the Easter period, until late October. But in the future it will need to stretch further, at least 89 months more, as only in this way will Sardinia be at its maximum, and of course I speak not only for the sector of resorts, but for all that the island has to offer. The Region and local governments seem direc-

ted toward this model of tourism. “From personal contacts developed in recent months, also with the Regional Councillor for Tourism, Francesco Morandi, it seems to be yes, and we operators are ready for the challenge”. We speak of Porto Cervo, a world famous destination, but something seems to be missing. “The world now has many world famous destinations and therefore to be attractive and successful you must give something more”. What? “For example, I believe it is necessary to consider a major nautical event right in Porto Cervo, maybe in the spring. This would allow the area to officially open the ‘bathing season’, so to speak, as well as drive the whole cause of the event itself. Moreover, this would bring the name of Porto Cervo up in the elite nautical world”. Meanwhile in Porto Cervo the new course of Sardinia Resorts has started with the arrival of the managing director Mario Ferraro. “A new course that bodes well, the new management

seems particularly sensitive in addressing the issues related to the revitalization of the Smeralda Coast”. Moving on to Marinasarda, how do you prepare for 2017? “First of all, with the same commitment and professionalism as always, but most importantly with a renewed fleet that will meet the needs of all customers. Last year we had 12 boats on the water, this year the number will rise to 15: The new names will be very important and guarantee dream trips, although it is still premature to anticipate something, the official procedures have yet to be carried out, but I can guarantee that for summer 2017 Marinasarda will be more than ready to offer the best of sailing”. Will Marinasarda continue to be only in Porto Cervo? “The goal is to consecrate how well we have done in Porto Cervo, but the idea of extending the boundaries is now a reality, and we will do so with our new Latitude brand specially created with this in mind. Last summer we were already present in Santa Maria di Leuca, and we certainly intend to pay our services to the Gulf of Naples, the Balearic Islands and the French Riviera. But we must move forward step by step, maybe in 2017 we will already be present in one of these places I mentioned”. In recent years Italian boating has gone through difficult times, followed by a slow recovery, so what is asked of the Gentiloni Government so as to restore the industry in places that merits the Italian economy? “We hope that the simplification of the bureaucratic part of the process that started with the Renzi government to be continued with this administration, and I refer to the whole of legislation and controls, but Gentiloni and the ministry in charge should immediately put their hand to a problem that is likely to become irreversible”. Which means? “That of occasional renting. Here is a problem that is likely to bring real professionals to their knees. It is unthinkable that anyone with a boat can rent it out for 42 days a year, meaning for almost the entire summer, with just a couple of communications to the Revenue Agency and the Port Authority. When, on the other hand, professionals are required to meet a set of constraints that make it impossible to compete with those who can afford to stay on the market at bargain prices”. What do you propose to do? “Surely to restrict this activity and in any case create a stamp of recognition between those who work under occasional renting and those who work in a professional manner”.

FUTURE PROJECTS In our plans is the idea of bringing our services to the Gulf of Naples, the Balearic Islands and the French Riviera, in the meantime we have to be good at confirming the good things done up until now in Sardinia

PASSION FISHING IN THE WINTER Here are the best techniques to use in the sea to catch conger eels, octopus, yellowtail, red mullet and hake Attention, tuna must be released by Tatiana Scarinci

F

ishing in January can be hard due to the sea conditions, but here we give you advice on how you can make your days of good weather in the name of this wonderful sport. Winter is devoted mostly to the fishing of octopus to be found on the rocks near the shoreline and fishing for squid in depths not exceeding 10 meters. Of all fish, conger is the least valuable fish species, but it is not said that it gives us less satisfaction than other catches. The best conditions are as follows: the seabed has to be mixed (rock-sand, pebble-sand, sand and reefs parallel to the coast) and the time period in which to catch our serpentine must go by sunset and can last all night, with the sea mostly calm or recently calmed after rough movement. Recall that we are in winter, bites will be very few, but when the tip moves be ready to fight with oversized species as it is not uncommon to come across conger eels of 3 kilos. Once the fish is hooked always try to lessed the gulf between you during the recovery phase, we must not give too much line or we may lose him. Set aside trolling with live bait retrieval given the low numbers and the cold, here are some alternative suggestions. Below we offer you 5 techniques: vertical jigging: retrieve

vertically of a metal jig previously lowered to the seabed, perhaps bringing us some snapper, amberjack and maybe even a dolphin fish. Not bad for a short period characterized by abundance of fish; trolling with lures: local knowledge is key here, we can find the inshore sea bass, and it's not recommended to push over 4 meters of seabed. Ideal is the use of linear sinking lines such as leaded dacron and Monel; Drifting: for those who will go on an offshore boat and get hold of a lot of sardines, the technique of “swiping could prove to be very useful, especially for tuna fish, horse mackerel or dolphin. We have to remember though that bluefin tuna fishing is prohibited during this time, and if you happen to get one, there is an obligation to release it into the sea; Spinning: fishing from the ground, we can hope for a bass, or if we decide to go offshore, spinning gives us a maximum catch of horse mackerel. It is unlikely that large predatory fish surface in this cold period; and bottom fishing: this is the king of winter. Fishing bolentino maybe does not offer great emotion, however, it is a guaranteed catch. Mullet, pandora, scorpion fish, gurnard, silver scabbardfish and hake fish are amongst those sure to be caught.

Submarine drone to find fish

A

A passion for all seasons Fishing is a popular sport also in the winter season

mong the news of the beginning of 2017 we point out the marketing to the general public of an aid for sport fishing that will surely be discussed. It is a drone-shaped submarine that can follow the fish at sea and in fresh water and facilitating, in their view, catches. An instrument equipped with sensors and camera that sends data via wi-fi. The new Chinese made drone, will be able to detect prey, allowing the angler to easily figure out where and how to cast. There are many criticisms and concerns in the world of sport fishing and one wonders whether it is the beginning of the end of this beloved sport where searching for the fish makes for the fascinating part leading then to the capture.

Cranchi, three centuries of history and the desire to amaze The company will this year present the market with three new boats

F

ew shipyards can boast three centuries of history. And probably no one can make use of such technologies. Cranchi was born as an artisan shipyard founded in 1870 by Tullio Monzino and Aldo Cranchi, but soon went on to combine courageous and successful industrial projects, making it a winner in Europe and worldwide. Absolute organization and synchronization reigns within the company. The secret is to save time in a production cycle with very high efficiency. Technological innovation and its constant research have led the company to have complete control over the entire production chain and an ability to produce a yacht every 2.42 hours in the years of maximum production. In addition to the historical site of

The Cranchi of Marinasarda Three boats of the historical company of Sondrio that are part of the rental company of Porto Cervo

Piantedo (Sondrio), they can count on another technological system in Rogolo and Marine Test Centre "Italo Monzino" (Udine) on the Adriatic Sea. Cranchi has even the Bellagio dock: 2 storage shelters for both the operations Pre-delivery inspection and acceptance tests at sea. Today Cranchi produces more than 25 models of boats, with a total of 5,600 pieces to be assembled. All elements remain and are always present within the business, which has a huge warehouse, but everything is there, ready to be used right away. The interiors are made in the company and since here accuracy is sovereign, once manufactured and assembled, there is no need to touch them up. They are perfect on the first try. The technology has also made it possible to stop using wood, but much lighter and stronger

materials that do not absorb moisture or rot, extending the working life of the boat. This is the story of Cranchi, baptizing its first Italcabin in 1870, a cabin cruiser of 5.7 meters. Since then it has produced over 23,000 boats, and 121 models. In 2017 it plans to come out with three new models, the Cranchi E52S, the E52F and E56 F. In particular, the E52S has been named as "European powerboat of the year", a nomination which certifies the yacht to be considered among the best of the season 2017 for level of performance, technology, innovation and quality / price ratio. More than just following the route, this yacht creates it, thanks to an extremely clean line and a hull of very high hydrodynamic efficiency. T. S.

nly 60 kilometers from Trieste, once part of the Kingdom of Italy, Opatija (or, Abbazia in Italian) is the pearl of the Kvarner Bay. You get there by car through the mountains and from this view from above the scenery is breathtaking. Opatija is nestled between Mount Ucka and the Adriatic Sea, which for this particularity looks like a lake, thanks to the result of the islands of Krk and Cres. Considered the most important places on the eastern coast, Opatija is animated throughout the year with exhibitions, shows and events. It has good food and wine traditions of sea and land, inspired by the Slavic, Hapsburg and Italian traditions. A perfect mix for refined palates. Opatija has a very long history of tourism. It bloomed during the Habsburg Empire, between the ninth and twentieth century, when the empire was considered a "climatic health resort". As a result it was frequented by the Habsburg nobility, embellishing it with splendid buildings in art deco style as a way of thanks, once belonging to important Italian and Habsburg families: these palaces were used as houses and luxury hotels at the time of Tito's Yugoslavia. Today this tradition of hospitality continues, but has taken on quality standards reached by no other with luxury facilities to be envied around the world. All around there are many medical facilities, along with wellness centres and spas. Opatija has become famous for its thalassotherapy treatments that works to

take the benefits of sea water and is good against arthritis, osteoarthritis and rehabilitative physiotherapy. Here you will find state of the art facilities, highly specialized medicine and lower prices than in Western Europe. In recent years, Opatija and Croatia in general has developed a new form of tourism dedicated to health, where, in addition to visits to specialists, especially in the dental field and aesthetic surgery and rehabilitation, are offered packages that include accommodation in properties of 4 and 5 star, and tourist activities of all kinds. It is a delight to walk along the promenade of Opatija, officially called Promenade Franz Josef I, in honor of the Hapsburg emperor who loved to stay there and that donated works to the area. A path to the sea more than 12 kilometers,

lined with trees and flowers typical of the area; the tallest trees provide shade in the summer and their flowers perfume the air in spring. Along the promenade some statues were placed which over the years have become the symbol of the city, like the girl with the seagull. And the list goes on; there are well-maintained public gardens in the English style with floral mazes, well organized beaches; the bustling market, where you can still hear the old men talking in an Italian dialect that was spoken in Annunzio times. For lovers of nautical tourism, the surrounding coastline is dotted with more or less well equipped marinas, among which the Aci Marina Icici, open all year round with 300 berths and an additional 30 on the bank, all with water and electricity connection. In addition to this there is also the Admiral Marina (160 berths, equipped), which offers to its guests the hotel's services, such as a restaurant, indoor swimming pool, sauna, massage and beauty center. Strolling around Opatija has the flavor of an ancient and elegant time made for important dresses and jewels, dances and waltzes on the terraces of the hotels by the sea, outdoor cafes with orchestra: flavors that no longer exist today, but they remain in ambush in the imagination of who find themselves there.

Choose your dream lighthouse You can get concession rates up until you reach 50 years old by participating in the Agency of State Property’s competition: super sought-after is Marciana on the island of Elba

T

he lighthouses so highly desired have triggered the race to grab one of the most beloved symbols of the sea that today the State Property Agency and the Defence Services offer under concession up to 50 years. The most sought after is the lighthouse of Punta Polveraia in Marciana on the island of Elba: so far seven bids have arrived for the recovery and reuse of this imposing structure. In addition to lighthouses, they are making it possible to participate in for the rental of coastal buildings and towers owned by the state. There have been 54 proposals received in three months by Italian and foreign real estate investors, associations, individual entrepreneurs and companies in the hospitality industry. The assets if awarded under concession will make the offer of “best value”, based on the design component (evaluated with a score of 60%) and the economic component (40%). Among the highly valued lighthouses there is also that of the island of Spignon, in Venice. It is a rather shabby lighthouse which covers an area of just 190 square meters, but it stands on a small island near the Alberoni, in one of the most magical and romantic places of the lagoon. Here it could be realized as a dream home, so much so that it has already brought in five requests, while six

bids were formalized to the ‘faro delle Formiche’ (lighthouse of the Ants), in Maremma. Interest for the lighthouse of Ponza, Capo Mulini of Acireale (Catania), lighthouse at Capo in Santa Maria di Salina (Messina), Capo Zafferana in Santa Flavia (Palermo) and Punta del Pero, in Syracuse. And again, proposals for the lighthouse of Punta Libeccio on the island of Marettimo and the lighthouse of Capo Milazzo; for those of Punta Spadillo to Pantelleria and that of Goro, between the Po and the Ferrara beach. Even the towers show good interest, particularly for the Castelluccia tower of Bosco Caggione, a 1500 coastal building located in Marina di Pulsano, in the province of Taranto. “Once again - said the director of the State Property Agency, Roberto Reggi - entrepreneurs, associations and citizens have responded enthusiastically to an important project: bringing these structures back to life, in fact, means not only to recover, through enhancement projects, but more importantly to make them available to the community, create new jobs, fuel the rebirth of the beautiful places in which they are located. By the number of offers received it has confirmed that if you work hard to build recovery operations that are really appealing, participation occurs and the results come in”.

Plastic, the Mediterranean among the most polluted seas Seas poisoned Every year 12 million tons of plastic are poured in

T

he Institute of Marine Sciences of the National Research Council in Lerici (Ismar-NRC) published in Nature / ScientificReports an estimate of the presence in 2013 of floating micro-plastic in the western Mediterranean. The polymers which form the floating micro-plastic are distributed in an uneven measure and way in the Mediterranean and the reasons for this depend on the different sources of waste: for example, the most densely populated areas are along the coast, rivers and area of marine transport processes. The micro-plastic consists of these smaller fragments of plastic of 2mm which were found to be floating everywhere in the Mediterranean, with concentrations among the highest in the world, coming to an average of about 1.25 million. The stretch of sea between Tuscany and Corsica has been found to contain about 10 kg of micro-plastics per 2 kilometers, compared with about 2kg at present off the west coast of Sardinia and Sicily and along the northern stretch of the coast of Puglia. Every year the world produces about 300 million tons of plastic and it is thought that up to 12 million tons end up in the sea.

In Sestri Levante sparkling wine ages under water

I

n Sestri Levante 30 thousand bottles of sparkling wine are resting on the seabed: the wine extracted from Bianchetta Genovese, Ligurian Vermentino and ancient CimixiĂ grapes is refined, in fact, in iron cages under water. The wine is lowered into the sea in the spring, when the weather conditions permit and, having aged 26 months, re-emerge from the water with the essence of a sparkling Reserve. Bisson were the first wine producer to experience this highly innovative form. At these depths the light, the temperature and the absence of oxidation appears to give an extraordinary result. Of course an innovative form of bottling to comply with all health regulations was also tested.

One in two scuba divers complain of toothache during the dive

T

oothaches, fillings jump and tension in the jaw are very common problems for those who go under water: according to a study published in the British Dental Journal these disorders affect one in two divers. The search was conducted online with a sample of one hundred divers, finding that 4 out of 10 had had dental problems. The most common was the barodontalgia, or rather the pain caused by the change in pressure underwater. In second place is the pain experienced in holding the mouthpiece, followed by jaw pain and problems with dental crowns.
