A fracture to heal

he Genoa Boat Show "will not receive a euro next year if there is no agreement between the two associations Ucina and Nautica Italiana." The explicit warning comes from none other than Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda, according to whom "through giving life to two associations who have quarreled among themselves the show has sunk". In short, as soon as the show is over the mission for everyone will be to find a way out to somehow recreate the world of Italian boating. Signals arriving from Nautica Italiana on the eve of Genoa are not at all encouraging, but maybe something is changing. The words of the minister have not left Carla Demaria, President of UCINA, feeling indifferent. Her willingness to meet the new association has already been declared throughout the days of the show in the presence of Undersecretary Scalfarotto. An opening which means, first of all, the desire to create the conditions for making a concrete future for the sector, with the stress on "keeping in mind the needs of the whole market," elaborated further in the interview that she granted to Tendenze Nautiche that you may find in the following pages. The show can become an opportunity to begin a new dialogue, thus creating the basis for a 2017 full renaissance.

A rift that has forced the Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda, to intervene, inviting the two parties to reach an agreement. An invitation immediately picked up by the President Demaria to grant this interview with Tendenze Nautiche, which also explains how it was possible to restart after a crisis lasting years.

What does the Genoa Boat Show mean, and how does it fit into this precise moment in the national and international sector? “The 56th Genoa Boat Show will be an important issue for three reasons: because it powers development within the industry, it brings new resources to the territory and it presents itself as the main event of the international boating market. As proof of this, important foreign exhibitors return to Genoa this year, beginning with the British Sunseeker, Princess and Fairline”. In this 56th edition the combination of boating and world institutions seems even

more steady. Can it be a key to further strengthen the fund? “It certainly is. Thanks to the work done by UCINA Confindustria boating together with the Government and other public institutions in the past year and a half, it took only a few interventions to restart the sector after a devastating crisis. The 56th edition of the Genoa Boat Show is the proof: thanks to the support of the Ministry of Economic Development and Ice Agency, as part of the special promotion plan of the ‘Made in Italy 2016’, launched by Mise, Ucina and Ice could organize a visit of several delegations of operators and trade journalists from 32 different countries”.

Italian boating has been showing signs of recovery for a year now, how do you imagine the next three years? “Market data, at this point so close to the Fair (the interview was conducted a few days before the event Genoa, ed), speaks of a + 17.1% growth in turnover in 2015 compared to 2014, a figure that has significantly improved with respect to the assumptions that our research department had forecast last spring when growth was estimated at around 12%. This data shows promise for the future.” To what extent is a new impetus to Italian boating expected from the national government? “We have worked a lot alongside the government, but there are still many steps to be taken to give new impetus to the sector: the elec-

tronic register of vessels - technically ready for two years, but still waiting for the implementation decree - which could also be an important source of revenue to the exchequer; the definition of litigation involving the state concessions of tourist ports; the re-launch of the nautical leasing tool, an essential generator of growth for the sector; the export and internationalization opportunities and, in general, simplification and certainty of bureaucratic procedures”. Important inputs and just as many outputs on the corporate front by UCINA Confindustria boating, what is happening and especially what is the road that "your" association aims to go? “UCINA has always been institutionally at the service of the entire supply chain and is well aware of the needs of the entire market in which we are representing in Con-

findustria. The only path to take at this time is that of pursuing concrete commitment to protect and support the nautical Italian market as a whole. With the facts. Like the boat show we are about to inaugurate, in which the majority of companies in the sector of Italian boating will participate”. Coming slightly off topic from boating in the strict, though without a doubt having some important connections, what do you think of the 2024 Olympics in Rome? “The Genoa Boat Show supports and has always supported the sport, so we welcomed the candidature of Rome for the Olympics and Paralympics of 2024. Now we await, like everyone, the decisions that must come from the City Council and then by the mayor of Rome”.

he Italian nautical market grows. The shipyards return to Genoa, to begin with, but not only, from the British who witness that Italy and the Ligurian capital remain the world arena for those wishing to take boating to a high level. The figures speak of a +17.1% of revenue in 2015 compared to 2014. This positive trend in growth is confirmed by the analysis made by the Edison Foundation whose vice-president is Marco Fortis, Palazzo Chigi economic advisor, this year scientific partner of the annual report "Nautica in cifre ". Among the most significant data of the study, an important indicator for foreign trade emerged: Italy is still the undisputed leader in the world, holding the leading position in terms of export of inboard recreational vessels in 2015 with a share of 23.7%, before the Netherlands (19.6%) and Germany (15.9%). Italy maintains its world leadership also in the sum of segments of the shipbuilding industry with a 16.3% share of exports. The Genoa Boat Show, with its 56 years of boating industry history to show, it has been confirmed to generate industry development, with a positive knock-on effect also highlighted by the data of Assilea - also contained in the new edition of ‘La Nautica in cifre’ - which show a +50% in contracts signed at the end of the show 2015. The Ligurian capital confirms crossro-

ads of recreational boating of the Mediterranean. A leading event in the international market which is spread over an area of 180,000 square meters, 100,000 of which is in water. Among the main innovations of this 2016 edition is to point out that English industry sets out from Genoa with Princess, which exhibits three new models: the 30Mt, the S65 and the V58. Sunseeker comes with the brand new Sunseeker 95, while Fairline reveals the Fairline Squadron 53, Targa 53 and 48. Others returning from beyond the Alps will see at the show this year, for sailing, the French of Chantiers Amel with the Amel 64, the Swedish of Najad with the Najad 505. For the engine, the Spaniards Rodman with the Rodman 42 and 44, the Turkish shipyard Numarine with the Numarine 78 HT, while the US Chris Craft returns to the show with the Chris Craft 42. The Norwegian Fjord and English Sealine, owned by the German group Hanse, respectively expose the Fjord 42 and Sealine 530 and 330. Among the many returns to Genoa, the flagships of the Italian shipbuilding industry, Innovazione and Progetti present the new IPY 53, Absolute Yachts with the Navetta 52, 3B Craft with 3B Craft 270, Cantiere Nautico Cranchi with the flybridge E50 F and E50 HT. Returning to the show are also two historical brands: Tornado Yachts with the T38 and Sciallino with the new 25.

This year the service Ampère entersthe scene, the first electric ferry already operates regularly between towns, relying only on the energy of its package of lithium batteries. This runs alongside Latvia with the boat that is even faster, the BB Green, that, in addition to being electric, has a cushion of air in the hull (Air supported vessel) that allows a saving

In view of newly entered standards regarding global emissions, Oslo is already working to hold the record: it operates in the Green coastal shipping program, a program for sustainable coastal shipping which aims to put into the water only the most environmentally friendly boats on the planet and to design lowpower ports, working towards the total elimination of polluting factors in boating by 2020. In the private sector Picnic was born, an electric boat made of recycled material and low cost (9,950€).The Danish vessel has a table which stores photovoltaic solar energy that recharges completely in one hour. in Italy? Our country took the prize for design and innovation in 2015 by Helios, a solar sailing boat of 55 meters, which captures the sun's energy through its sails, coated with flexible silicon solar cells. Finally, for the past two years Venice has hosted the congress exhibition ‘Mobility show’, in which the most innovative technologies and solutions to reduce environmental impact and improve the efficiency of transport are presented to the public. Moreover, by next year Alilaguna spa, the public transport company of the city, will realize the first steamboat powered by a hybrid of electric and hydrogen with zero emissions.

ardinia is the ultimate region for its beaches and the diversity of its coastline. With its 1,900 kilometers of coastline, it is a succession of very different landscapes. Long stretches of low-lying and sandy beaches alternate with rocks overlooking the sea. Compared to those of the Caribbean for their beauty, the many different beaches of Sardinia will never disappoint. For you we have chosen ten. Are you ready for the journey from north to south in a clockwise direction? Then here we go. Porto Istana is a set of four beaches separated from each other by small bands of rock in front of Tavolara: ďŹ ne white sand and emerald coloured waters. We wonder if we are in Italy or in some remote PaciďŹ c paradise. Cala Brandinchi is in San Teodoro. It also houses a small dock, suitable for recreational sailing. With La Cinta being the most popular beach in the area but too crowded, this is the more exotic option even in low season, we recommend visiting from October to May: you will be surprised by the enchanting vegetation and the transparency of the sea. and a national Monument of Italy, here it is absolutely pristine and wild. It is located in the south of the Gulf of Orosei in Ogliastra. Formed by a landslide, the cove is famous for the overhanging pinnacle of almost 150 meters. Cala Mariolu is perhaps the paradisiacal beach par excellence. It got its name from the monk seal, as "thief" of fish from fishermen's nets. It is located in Baunei, in an area rich in caves, one of which opens directly onto the bay. It is so perfect that it doesn’t seem real. Near Cagliari, Solanas is 1.2 km of white sand beaches and cliffs, enriched with hidden coves accessible only by sea. For surfers, this is the ideal destination. Chia, however, in Sulcis was named the most beautiful beach in Italy in 2015. There awaits a wild paradise of white sand, clear sea, Mediterranean vegetation and lagoons. Piscinas is located in the Costa Verde and is surrounded by kilometers of high dunes (among the highest in Europe) formed by the mistral winds. Often you can see deer that go down to the sea, and in June, the sea turtles that lay their eggs. Tharros is a natural setting of extraordinary beauty for its appearance in the peninsula, and its archaeological site in the heart of

La Pelosa di Stintino is one of the most beautiful beaches of Sardinia and Italy, situated opposite the island Piana and Asinara. here is a place in the Mediterranean among the most unknown. Located a few kilometers from the islands of Croatia, and beyond Bari, this is the new refuge for many enthusiasts of Italian boating and more. Once a docking station of the Yugoslav Navy, today the small Montenegro is a paradise (also in terms of tax) for boating. In Tivat, in the Bay of Kotor (UNESCO natural heritage) shines Porto Montenegro. Sought after in 2009 by the elite of world business (Munk, Rothshield and Arnault to name a few), it is the largest

di Tatiana Scarinci port of the Mediterranean gigayachts. This luxurious "jewel" is the ideal alternative for those who love the sea and do not want to have anything to do with the Italian tax system. With the VAT at 17%, for an exemption on charters, 7% on nautical services and the lowest cost of diesel in Europe, Porto Montenegro has increased the presence of Italian yacht by 300% between 2010 and 2015. Important data, especially if you add the beauty of the places, the unbridled luxury of the resort (acquired from the Qatari chain One & Onlyresorts) and services of all kinds. The marina is home to 450

places for yachts between 12 and 180 meters, with another 450 under construction. The ambition is to become the largest marina for gigayachts the world over the next five years. In Tivat there will be the theater festival of the nautical world "Myba popup show" for the second time in September, and was elected "Port of the year 2015". Great news for the nautical world, but inconvenient for our country as this sector is suffering from 2010 and only now are we glimpsing a small recovery. Instead, Porto Montenegro was able to overcome it thanks to targeted investments unequal to those in Europe.

“I am the Amerigo Vespucci” The most beautiful ship in the world

“N

ot who begins but who perseveres" is my motto. I was born together with my twin Colombo in 1931 in the shipyard of Castellammare di Stabia, and we are the pride of the Italian Navy. In ‘45 Colombo was transferred to the USSR as a war damages, and since then ploughed the seas around the world. The sails dragged me 71 times around the globe, training sailors and future captains. I am not easy, nor forgiving. From me, only manual operation and hand-made materials like once upon a time; each order on board made known via the boat-

swain with a whistle. I am a cultural ambassador, genius and beauty of my country. I carried the Olympic flame, I am always the guest of honor for commemorative events of major battles in the world. I am the Amerigo Vespucci. When I pass, ships stop and greet me with sirens. Once the aircraft carrier USS Independence, flashed with light signal: "Who are you?" He asked. I replied: "School ship Amerigo Vespucci, the Italian Navy." The US ship retorted: "You are the most beautiful ship in the world."We chose to "make" the Amerigo Vespucci recount what it represents directly: an original and a little 'unusual, but we believe very effective. Hawaii, the largest marine park on the globe Twice the size of Texas and consisting of over half a million square miles in the remote waters of the Pacific: this is the new oasis created in Hawaii by President Barak Obama, who thus realizes the largest protected marine park on the globe. The park is rich in biodiversity and is four times the size of Papahanaumokuakea marine oasis, created in 2006 by George W. Bush. Papahanaumokuakea is now a key area for endangered species, including the blue whale, sea turtles, the short-tailed albatross and the last monk seals in Hawaii.

ission accomplished for Adriaco Yacht Club and Società Velica of Barcola and Grignano, which on August 28th both qualified for the final of Sailing Champions League in St. Petersburg, "the European Champions Cup" in sailing. In the "three days" of racing, the Yacht Club Adriaco (Andrea Micalli, Furio Benussi, Matteo Stroppolo and Jacopo Ciampalini) immediately began engaging the gears, maintaining a position from top of the table and finishing in fifth place with no distractions. The more "lively" racing of the Sailing Club of Barcola and Grignano (President Mitja Gialuz, Vice President Mauro Parladori and sports directors Alessandro Bonifacio and Dean Bassi) was so much the case that after not so bright a start they were able to get back in the game despite the failure of two boats, finishing in twelfth place, enough to get the qualification, but with a little 'bitter taste in the mouth”. The semifinal victory went to the German Berliner Yacht Club, who overtook those of the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein; and in third place was the Société Nautique de Genève.

Save the children for migrants

Save the Children will help in the rescue operation in the Mediterranean Sea: with a ship, which will fly the Italian flag and will be subject to the laws of our country, 300 people will be loaded on board at a time. In addition to the rescue specialists, onboard there will be translators and mediators to ensure that the needs of migrants, and especially children, are understood. It will be the Italian Coast Guard organization that coordinates all search and rescue operations at sea, to direct the unit to the boats with migrants in danger.

Great news coming from the world market of yachting: in fact, in the report prepared by Deloitte with Altagamma in "number zero" of the study Market Insight of the international Recreational Boating Industry has clearly shown the world nautical market of new vessels to be worth 19 billion, recording a 12% increase to that of 2014, when it was worth $17 billion. In addition, there are about 800 thousand units sold, compared to 700,000 in 2014 (+ 14%).The report was presented on September 7 as part of the Cannes Yachting Festival by ‘Nautica Italiana’, the association that brings together the excellence of the industry.
