The editorial by Gianluigi Basilietti
EU Strategies and the Italian deficit
S
timulate the sea roads because maritime transport becomes more and more attractive for passengers and freight. This is said by the European Union that has reiterated it once more in the recent meeting of the 28 ministers responsible in Luxembourg in support of the La Valletta Declaration. And so far nothing to complain about. But will it ever be possible to implement such a plan in Italy? At present, the answer is more ‘no’ than ‘yes’, and this is due to an infrastructure deficit that our bel paese can "boast", in spite of itself, in ports, railways and roads that conduct shipping. Whether to reach this or that harbor you must walk through impossible streets, but is it so difficult to imagine a sea freeway on which to move easily? And the situation of the ports, some excluded, is not that much better. The EU plan is fine, as long as it is matched with a new Italian infrastructure view that will allow for a synergy between sea, rail and road. And when this day comes, our country will no doubt be a more modern and attractive country. The tourists and travelers will be happy, but above all the business class.

Costa Smeralda, 120 million ready To stay on top Mario Ferraro, CEO of Smeralda Holding, drops a four-year plan combining environment and new services

lue flags, mega yachts already around in the spring and a new vision in line with the past. In the expectations and projects of Smeralda Holding, the summer that has already begun will remain in the annals of things to remember with nostalgia and sati-
sfaction. Certainly the premises are all there, but we go by degrees. Starting with the blue flags that the International Environmental Education Fund assigns to the most beautiful, best kept Italian beaches and the best services each year. Among these are six "pearls" of Gallura: Porto Cervo, Porto Rotondo, Portisco, Palau,

Santa Teresa di Gallura and Cala Gavetta. An award that gives prestige to Sardinia and in particular to a unique sea section in the world such as the Costa Smeralda. Managing Director of the Smeralda Holding Group, Mario Ferraro, at the top of the company for two years with the task of controlling the properties of the Qatar's sovereign fund in Sardinia, explains how it comes to winning blue flags: "It is the result of a careful policy of the Marina di Porto Cervo, which aims to guarantee very high quality standards of service, alongside procedures and systems which are responsible for the protection of the sea and marine life. Protecting the environment and glamorous services, a perfect combination that will allow Porto Cervo to acquire a new dimension. Here, the difference will be an increase in quality and, in this sense, the Ferraro line has been clear from the very beginning. A dimension that wants to be able to attract stars and VIP from around the world, but also offer its "young" aspect that can be brought together with the new trends that lead to nature, landscape, respect for all that surrounds us.

Current levels of demand announce a budget yet more satisfactory than 2016 and the Costa Smeralda system offers incomparable attractions. Qatar Holding arrived in Sardinia in 2012 with enthusiasm, but it is difficult to keep it up without the concrete possibility of enhancing the investment

With regards to the VIP, many of the bigger yachts have been sailing in the waters of the Costa Smeralda this spring, as the managing director of the Smeralda Holding group who controls the Navy in Porto Cervo tells us: "We have already had a noticeable presence in the dock, the first beingwhen the large yachts arrived in April”. In Porto Cervo, many have been able to admire the splendid Dilbar, the 156-meter gigayacht of the Uzbek tycoon Alisher Usmanov. But also "A", the world's largest sailing yacht designed by Philippe Stark. Arrivals that induce Ferraro to an almost simple reflection: "The current demand levels announce an even more satisfactory budget than 2016. The Costa Smeralda system offers incomparable attractions”. Of course, without missing the opportunity to remind us that "a further advantage for those who arrive in one of our 650 places with a charter will be supplied with a tax reduced net worth on fuel." In short, you not only get to one of the most amazing places in the Mediterranean and not only, but you can also take advantage of some financial considerations that never fail to please. If blue flags and yacht arrivals are the present to be talked about, Smeralda Holding looks to the future by focusing on a strategic plan that, with an investment of 120 million, is to be implemented from this year and continued over the next four years. This will focus on enhancing the existing offer, creating a new design for the rooms
of the 4 hotels and adding components that are not present today: spa, cooking schools; As well as a diversification of the 20 restaurants and club bars, all with new concepts and also calling for new brands of international catering such as Nobu and Novikov. Another novelty: the beach clubs in the most beautiful beaches of Costa Smeralda. In the audience of the Territorial Government Commission over the past weeks, Mario Ferraro has stressed all the projects that will lengthen the season, in fact highlighting that "to compete with other locations such as Côte d'Azur and Capri, who have a season of 8-9 months of the year, it is necessary to diversify and broaden the supply”, also pointing out the need to have "a clear and understandable regulatory framework. Qatar Holding came to Sardinia in 2012 with enthusiasm, but it is difficult to keep it up without the concrete possibility of enhancing the investment”. At the same time, Consorzio Costa Smeralda (of which Ferraro is vice president) is carrying out important innovations: a major project to adapt the infrastructure of the area to improve both usability and accessibility, as well as its services. For the 2017 season, the first phase of the pedestrianization project of the village of Porto Cervo was inaugurated, a walk that connects the center with the beach of Porto Paglia. It's a tangible sign of the start of a new season for Costa Smeralda.

After Porto Cervo with Marinasarda, Navy Stars creates a new passenger service from Arbatax CEO Serra: “These are some Custom-made cruises”
rom Porto Cervo to Arbatax on the Latitude route. Navy Stars doubles, in addition to the charter and rental services offered at Marinasarda in the heart of Costa Smeralda, a new and exclusive service is now also present in the Arbatax marina: "We organize true one-day cruises, bringing our passengers to discover the most picturesque corners of our Sardinian sea, we drive north to the Cove's caves”, explains the new managing director Francesco Serra. From mid-May "Rais del Golfo" is already in the water, a beautiful boat that can carry up to 200 people and from mid-July Navy Stars will provide passengers and tourists with two other boats: "Martina" and "Imperatrice" with 260 and 320 seats respectively."We want to offer our customers a unique and exclusive service”, says Serra, "which results in a trip that is not fixed, but dictated by the day and the circumstances that may favor or rule out certain routes. This means that during navigation, conditions permitting, we can, for example, meet the demands
of tourists on board by visiting a stretch of coast rather than another, or decide to stop in a cave instead of another and then return a second time. Everything - adds the CEO - to meet the needs and requirements of our customers, and above all to give them a unique experience in our Sardinian

sea". Departures are daily, with "Rais del Golfo" sailing from Arbatax at 9am and returning at 18.30. "When the other two boats come into service, we will differentiate the timetables and hope to succeed, as soon as possible, in implementing some on-board services," says Serra. Procedures are ongoing to prepare meals on board, with the aim of always welcoming passengers. But the Latitude project does not end with the three big boats. "At Arbatax, also with the experience gained in Porto Cervo with Marinasarda, we have decided to bring a wonderful yacht to the sea, for those who enjoy a more exclusive excursion," says Serra. And that's not all. Navy Stars has also decided to focus on rubber boats, both rental and for sale, "thanks to the collaboration we now have with Ranieri International, the leader in the rubber department," Serra explains. In short, summer 2017 may be the right one for the consecration of the Latitude project, which is already a wonderful reality.

“Andiamo” with Baglietto
This is a 48-meter yacht launched at the La Spezia shipyards and guarantees a living area of 340 square meters: here are all the technical features
S

The jewel that is Riva, after Hong Kong, debuts in the Principality of Monaco
100’ Corsaro is presented to Europe
A
European debut for the latest Riva masterpiece, brought along by the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monaco. This ever enchanting setting of the principality formed the backdrop to the 100’ Corsaro after the success that came with the occasion of its world premiere last April in Hong Kong. The new Riva flybridge has been presented to boat-owners and enthusiasts, instantly generating enthusiasm for the seafront masterpieces that thrill at first glance. The 100’ Corsaro is the new, exciting chapter in the history of a legendary brand that in 2017 celebrates its 175th anniversary. The result of the historic Riva models is a perfect synthesis of comfort, performance, style and safety. Its majestic dimensions combine harmoniously with the sportiness of the design, characterized by a streamline profile, metallic colors in dark shades, and large crystal surfaces. Riva 100’ Corsaro was brought about through the collaboration between Officina Italiana design, the studio founded by designer Mauro Micheli, together with Sergio Beretta, who exclusively draws the entire Riva fleet, the Strategic Product Committee, led by the engineer Piero Ferrari, and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department.

Valencia, journey into the city of light by Francesca Rizzi
CLIMATE, ATTRACTIONS AND DREAM BEACHES ARE THE INGREDIENTS THAT MAKE THE VALENCIAN COMMUNITY A PERFECT PLACE TO VISIT EVERY SEASON
www.tendenzenautiche.net
K
nown as the "City of Light" for its brightness and sunny weather, Valencia is Spain's third-largest city in terms of importance and number of inhabitants. Over 300 days a year of sunshine and temperate winters make this place visitable in every season. It's no coincidence that the Valencians say they are "pampered by the weather". The city is rich in culture and traditions, exemplified by the medieval old town enriched by Liberty-style neighborhoods. Lapped by the Mediterranean, it owns a city beach among the largest in Europe, a seaport that boasts the most famous trophies of sailing, where the American Cup and the Formula One Grand Prix have been held. What is more, a vast artistic-architectural complex may be seen; The City of Arts and Sciences, which also houses the largest Aquarium in Europe. In the medieval old town, which has two gates in the old wall, Torres de Serrano and Torres de Quart, stands the cathedral, a curious architectural example that encompasses four different styles: Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance, and where the Holy Grail is believed to be guarded, the cup that Jesus Christ used during the Last Supper. Of all the churches present, noteworthy is the recently restored Church of San Nicolas, also known as the "Valencian Sistine Chapel", featuring various frescoes of which cover about 2000 square

meters on the ceiling. Just a few kilometers from the historic center yet still in the city, there is a long sandy coastline: the playa de la Malvarrosa, the playa de Las Arenas and the playa de la Patacona, easily reached by bicycle, bus or tram. The coast continues to the south with the playa El Saler and the playa Pinedo and towards the north with Port Sa Playa. The most popular is undoubtedly Malvarrosa, for convenience and presence of services. Here, near the harbor, during spring and summer, bathing facilities, restaurants, nightclubs and pubs animate the area. The particular colours and light of the beach have made it the main subject of paintings by the famous painter Joaquín Sorolla. In the city, the Turia River was flowing until the 1950s, when its course was diverted by dramatic flooding. Today, on the old bed of that river
stands Valencia's largest park, El Jardín del Turia. Over ten kilometers, it's the lungs of the city. With its rugby, football, athletic, playing grounds and other attractions, it is the perfect place to walk, go to practice sport or simply escape from the routine of a city that has about 800,000 inhabitants. It is here that you also find the Bioparc, a modern zoo that houses wildlife from every corner of Africa. But the real attraction lies on the opposite side of the park: The City of Arts and Sciences. Designed by Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava, it is a complex scientific-cultural footprint for the whole family, which occupies about two kilometers of the old riverbed. Several buildings, whose form is inspired by marine life, make up this space that transports the visitor into the future. One of the buildings, El Palau de les Arts in Reina Sofía, houses the
Opera of Valencia, which from October to November offers concerts, zarzuela or ballet programs. The Principe Felipe Museum of Science is the main attraction for children. The Hemisfèric, a 3D digital cinema, with a huge concave screen of 900 meters, wraps up the spectators. But you cannot visit the Ciudad de las Artes and the Ciencias without going to the Aquarium. With seven different marine areas, in the largest aquarium in Europe you can admire 45,000 specimens of 500 different species.Valencia, a town also known for its busy nightlife, is convenient to visit: miles of cycle paths cross it from North to South and the flat layout makes it easy to travel. And during your visit, why not take advantage of the secular culinary tradition that makes the Spanish city famous all over the world. In mid- morning, nowadays known as almuerzo, bars
www.tendenzenautiche.net
in the city are filled with people who eat hot or cold sandwiches, in Spanish bocadillos, stuffed with so many ingredients, serving only to the limits of your own imagination. The typical Valencian "bocadillo" is the Chivito: grilled pork pie, bacon, salad, tomato, mayonnaise and fried egg. In Valencia you can find the very best fish, bull meat, but what makes this city truly famous is the vast variety of rivers, among which the most famous dish is Paella. Note to Tourists: If you want to taste the original Paella the recipe is chicken, rabbit, flat green beans and white beans. Rice, which comes from a very long Valencian tradition, is grown in Albufera, Spain's largest lake and one of the most important wetlands in the Iberian peninsula. It is here that you can try all the best rice-based recipes: Arròs in Banda, Arròs at Forn, Arròs Negre and of course
Paella. After eating, a relaxing boat trip through the nature reserve will take you to admire the reddish and golden tones of a magical sunset over the waters. Along the entire valley of the Valencian community, over 500 kilometers, there are many landscapes with enchanting beaches. Just over 100 kilometers south of Valencia, separated from Mount Montgó, Jávea and Denia are set with dream beaches. Granadella, El Portitxol, Cala Blanca and Cala del Francès are some of the most famous in Jávea. In Denia eating a good Fideuá at Las Marinas or Las Rotas is an emotion not to be missed.A combination of sea and mountain makes all the towns in this area a visual spectacle where you can taste delicious fish on the terraces of the bars overlooking the sea, thanks to the folklore of local fishermen.

The great Las Fallas festival
V
alencia is a city of deep culture and traditions. Among the most famous, not to be missed is the great Las fallas festival, from March 15 to 19. Five days of celebration and madness: 800 paper-based satirical effigies, made by specialized artists, some of over 40 meters, populate Valencia. During the festivities musical bands, fireworks and scenic stages give life and color to the city.To join in the 2016 "Immaterial Cultural Heritage of Humanity" according to UNESCO, sculptures are burnt on the last night of the festival, giving rise to giant bonfires.

Over 150 million tons in seas worldwide The country that dispels the most is Turkey, the third is Italy
A sea of plastic
T
he Mediterranean is increasingly becoming a sea of plastic. A recently submitted dossier in Davos, Switzerland, at the opening of the World Economic Forum once again focused on the extremely alarming situation of the seas around the world, collecting more than 150 million tons of plastic. What’s more, among the most polluted waters there are those in the Mediterranean where, according to the UN Environment Agency (Unep), every day finish up with something around 731 tons of plastic waste. Without a change of route, experts warn, this figure could double by 2025. The country that disperses more at sea is Turkey (144 tons per day), followed by Spain (125) and
Italy (89.7) . The biggest problem for the sea nostrum is microplastics, fragments of less than 5 millimeters, which are mainly found in cosmetics and personal hygiene products but which may also be the result of the deterioration of larger waste.Often we do not see it but it is still dangerous: it damages the flora, it causes choking and the loss of marine animals and, in addition, it is ingested by fish, which later end up on our dishes. At some points, the concentration of microplastics off our coast is among the highest in the world even greater than that of the Pacific that hosts the Great Pacific garbage patch - with an average of 1.25 million plastic fragments per square kilometer, against the 335,000 found in the Pacific. The distribution of microplastics in
the Mediterranean is not homogeneous: the worst point, according to a study conducted by the Institute of Marine Sciences of the National Research Council of Lerici (Ismar-Cnr) is in the stretch between Corsica and Tuscany (10 pounds of microplastics per square kilometer) and the best one is in the northeast of Apulia and off the western coasts of Sicily and Sardinia (two pounds of microplastics per square kilometer).Pollutants of all types, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamides, paints, and even biopolymers, have been found in the water, theoretically biodegradable. To worsen the situation is the fact that the Mediterranean is a closed sea: a particle may stay around for up to a thousand years. There is a clear urgency of strategies to solve the problem.

Odyssea, the new integrated data platform on the Mediterranean
I
“eSailing Cup”, Sardinia first real and virtual regatta
T
he e-Sailing Cup is the first sailing event that has provided a combination of real and virtual parts. In the first phase, from February to April, through a mobile app, the participants challenged one another in a game that simulated the race and which decreed the finalists. The finals, however, took place at sea in the same place where the game was set. The first edition of the e-Sailing Cup finals took place from 26 to 28 May in the sea of Villasimius, in the south of Sardinia, in the Marine Protected Area of Capo Carbonara, and is the first sailing event that combines virtual regattas with real races. The virtual tournament lasted until April 10, 2017, and at the end of the period the finalists were ranked in three categories: 6 -12-year-old cadets, junior 13-17, senior over 17 years. After a first day overwhelmed by the wind, on the second and third days the Easter offered ideal conditions. The event was organized by the Italian Naval League section of Villasimius in collaboration with the Italian Sailing Federation.
Your dog at sea with you and the holidays are no longer a problem
F
or those who own a dog and want to go to sea, vacation is no longer a problem. The number of dogfriendly beaches in Italy is steadily increasing and some regions such as Sardinia, Emilia Romagna and Tuscany now count to tens. One of the first to be opened in Italy was the "Bau Village" beach, in
Albisola Marina, in Liguria, where a real paradise for your dog lies. In these beaches Fido will have the opportunity to stay under the umbrella, bathe at sea where it is allowed, have fun with agility paths designed for him, use showers and small pools to cool off and have water and croissants available.
