The editorial by Gianluigi Basilietti
Wealth comes in from the sea
T
he beaches that have been awarded the Blue Flag by the Foundation for Environmental Education are rising, compared to a year ago, a sign that is not only important, but also brings with it a new perspective. That of a better future, both in terms of landscape protection and from the purely entrepreneurial point of view, that is to say: perhaps beginning to understand that the country's economic and employment revival also comes about through environmental, historical and cultural resources. This year there are 342 dream beaches, the goal being that in 2018 they can reach at least 400, if not more. Valorizing the places where we live means adding value to the entire nation and this will create a virtuous circle that will bring greater wealth. Obviously, for this to happen, some ingredients are needed, beginning with a general view of our ruling class. We repeat it again: a piece of GDP can and should be increased through the environmental resources that you have. One of these is called the sea and the Italian one is one of the most beautiful in the world.

A YACHTING RENDEZ VOUS FROM VERSILIA
One in ten boats in the world hold the mark Made in Italy So it is said by CNA research on recreational boating, also outlining the effects of the great crisis
O
by Gianluigi Basilietti
ne in ten recreational boats, covering seas, lakes and rivers in the world, was built in Italy. That is the secondlargest producer behind the United States that can boast having 43% control over the international market. But the Bel Paese remains head and shoulders above its revered competitors, like the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, Germany and France. Just over the horizon, China threatens to compete for the post, even though Asian producers in general are still far enough away. The picture emerges from the research of the CNA that was presented at Viareggio during the first edition of Versilia Yachting Rendez-vous. If the second place in recreational craft production brings you a smile, Italy has not managed to spare the crisis that it has invested even in this sector. In 2008 the survey highlights - the total turnover of Italian nautical vessels reached six billion, in 2014 it dropped to 1.7 billion. After two years of recovery and growth, they were + 15% in 2015 and + 11% in 2016. This was almost exclusively due to exports, affecting total sales by more than 90%. With remarkable performances on the US market, famously tough with foreign productions. As
of 2009, the survey continues to report that the “small nautical” chain was overwhelmed: 446 companies (13.9%) were closed in five years, and almost 3,000 workers were unemployed (-21, 4%), with a peak among employees (-23.9%), a much worse variation than those found in the entire manufacturing sector, which lost 9.7% of businesses, 8.9% of internal employment and 12.2% of employees. Employment of companies decreased by 13.9% to 52.9%, and the average number of employees decreased by 4.4 to 4 employees. However, not all the micro and small enterprises of the nautical chain have suffered the same crisis as the devastating ones: the most penalized were the less welloff ones, such as family businesses (-25.9) and individual firms (-16.9%), While the number of capital companies remained virtually intact (-2.9%). This suggests to the CNA a specific proposal: “To encourage and enhance the functional integration between the sites and the network of sub-suppliers and specialized components, starting from the positive experience of the districts in some Italian regions, and bearing in mind that the engine of this sub-sector is craftsmanship, which must be protected, stimulated and sustained”.

President Tacoli: Now everyone will understand what Nautica Italiana is
“I
n such a short time, a show of this level, with 72 yachts, 60% of which are over 20 meters, the whole chain of excellence, services, and glamor fills us with pride and satisfaction. We would like to thank our organizers, our partners, but above all entrepreneurs, Italians and not, who have believed in our proposal. The Versilia Yachting Rendez-vous is the testimony that the nautical industry is alive, courageous, eager to continue to risk and to make a team to compete as a world-wide system. We thank the institutions, especially the Tuscans, who have been working closely with us and we are sure that from this moment it will be easier for so many to understand the Nautica Italiana project, its scope and its strength that can and wants only to add resources to the Italian nautical sector. Thus, Lamberto Tacoli, President of Nautica Italiana, expressed in presenting the first edition of Versilia Yachting Rendez-vous that took place at the dock in Viareggio. The first three major yachts, all of which are strictly Italian brands, have also taken part throughout the four days: the Azimut Benetti Group with the fleet of Flybridge Magellano and Atlantis. Benetti has featured in its 125-foot model collaborating with the Rolls Royce brand in the field of technological innovation, with a pretigious performance of comfort and silence. There are also the brands of the Ferretti Group - Riva, Ferretti, Crn, Pershing, Itama, Custom Line, Fsd - and Sanlorenzo Yachts which have exhibited 36 and 33 meter boats of recent construction. To enliven the yachting party of so many beautiful boats, an expression of nautical excellence in the world, starts from the historic and renowned Baglietto Group, which has exhibited four units including the 46 meters Fast; along with other relevant realities under Made in Italy such as Apreamare, presenting themselves with two 17 and 20-meter Maestro units; Cerri Cantieri Navali with 102Flyingsport; Fipa with two large units, of which an AByachts of 30; Picchiotti (Perini Navi group), which exhibited a 50 meters. The Foundation for Environmental Education assigns the famous Blue Flags to the Italian beaches: Liguria at the top, with Sardinia doing well
A dreamy sea
T
he dream beaches increase on the Italian coast. Clear waters, clean beaches and respect for the environment: The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) based in Denmark - this year has awarded 342 locations on the Peninsula, 49 more than last year. The initiative involved 163 municipalities and 67 tourist destinations on the basis of 32 different criteria regarding the sustainable management of the area, from wastewater treatment to waste management, from bike paths to green spaces, to bathing establishments. In this thirtieth edition, the highest stage of the podium is Liguria that conquers 27 blue flags with two new entries (Camogli and Bonassola) followed
by Tuscany with 19 locations and Marche with 17. Campania reaches 15 flags with a new entrance (Sapri) while Puglia holds 11 flags. Abruzzo comes 8th with two new entrances and Emilia Romagna loses 1 blue flag bringing it to 6. Veneto and Lazio confirm the same 8 flags of last year; Sardinia is presented with 11 locations; Sicily with 7 plus a new entry. Calabria reaches 7th with two new entrances; Molise goes down to 2; Friuli Venezia Giulia and Basilicata confirm the 2 flags oflast year. This year the flags for lakes have also increased: 1 for Lombardy, 2 for Piedmont and 10 for Trentino Alto Adige, which doubles over last year. The 67 award-winners presented - as the FEE explains - that tourism portfolios have consolida-
ted the sustainability choices made, meeting the requirements for international assignment, guaranteeing the quality and quantity of services delivered in full environmental compatibility. This year great importance has also been given to the management of the territory and the environmental education implemented by the administrations in order to preserve the environment and promote sustainable tourism. Comparison with 2016 shows a clear improvement to the situation: 293 beaches from the Oscars went up to 342, which corresponds to about 5 percent of the world-renowned beaches; From 152 up to 163 Municipalities, 11 more than last year thanks to 13 new entrances and 2 that lost their place.

Absolute 58 Fly, balance and luxury
T
he scheduled preview of this new jewel of Absolute Spa is May in Triest, having been detached since 2002 from the then-innovative and futuristic Gobbi. The Absolute 58 Fly (pictured) is born from a balanced union between ergonomics and technology. From this yacht we can see the best of the values and the merits of the largest luxury motor yachts. The IPS-800 systems and the renowned and award-winning Absolute hull guarantee minimal wear, maneuverability, silence and reliability, thus offering sea-lovers a pleasure-driven navigation experience and security in every detail. The comfort is expressed through a space optimized to the smallest detail, designed to accommodate seven guests with a maximum capacity of fourteen people. Living space is even easier thanks to sliding doors, rounded edges, wide and rectangular beds, and almost unobstructed floors. Nothing can be left to chance when the goal is always to reach the absolute. The sleeping area has been designed to ensure maximum comfort for seven people. It is this guarantee that also features within the day time space, finely finished and equipped with an almost maniacal care to daily needs. And what is more, the attention given to the glass has allowed for a design that provides maximum panoramic visibility. High quality materials are the cornerstone of a captivating boat that distinguishes the quality of Made in Italy: this is the trademark of the shipyard near Piacenza, whose founders Marcello Bè and Sergio Maggi are considered among the pioneers of the modern era. Restaurants, locales and an authentic landscape: here is the new goal for sea tourism and more
olfo Aranci mon amour. So it is written on a large gray panel in dolphin square. This is the claim, the current and dynamic figure of what, up to a dozen years ago, was little more than a sleepy fishing village, known as the ferry from the defective State Railways to and from Civitavecchia. For about ten years, Golfo Aranci – of about 2,400 people - can be considered the southern gate of the nearby and famous Emerald Coast, less famous but more authentic than Porto Rotondo. The village that relaxes on a beautiful strip of land in the Sardinian Sea has in fact maintained its original urban layout, integrating it and improving it. Golfo
14 www.tendenzenautiche.net Aranci (numerous and fascinating stories related to the origin of the place name) has been enriched in recent years with accommodation for every budget, with colorful markets, shops and artisan products, a bunch of restaurants, cafĂŠs and Mediterranean bistros, both in the inner lanes (characteristic of the fishermen's alleys) and on the new waterfront. The promenade; a true and beautiful novelty, has been the symbol of the new Gulf for some time. A wellbehaved promenade alternating with sound sculptures and illuminated flowerbeds, design benches and lanterns, small wharfs and white beaches along the bay, all offering a stunning panorama. But Golfo Aranci, today, is not just this. Lively and popular, and by no means mundane, with all the essential services for the tourist and all who visit, the ancient Figari (this is the name of the village in Gallurese) remains one of the best catalogs of colors, flavours, magic and perfumes of the ancient land of Sardinia. And of course, the theory of white beaches and emeralds all within a few kilometers (Spiaggia Bianca, Cala Sassari, Cala Sabina, Baia Caddinas, Nodu Pianu, Cala Banana, Cala Moresca, Marinella, among others), but also sea trekking, breathtaking views, unpublished itineraries in nature and history. It is enough to leave the protected natural area of Capo Figari by just a few kilometers, characterized by the limestone

The immediate hinterland of the Gulf of Bothnia is strewn with Nuragic heritage sites. Not to be missed are the typical bed and breakfasts and farmhouses, where you can relive, through both the structure and gastronomy, the true soul of country life and the mountains of the Sardinian people. Not far, the wonderful massif of Mount Limbara, equipped for hikers.Without forgetting a real curiosity. Among the mermaids of the harbor and Gulf Fishermen there is a post office of Santa Claus, open all year round: sledges, elves and gifts. It seems a contradiction in terms. Yet, recently, Golfo Aranci has also been revealed for its Christmas offer, through a solid twinning with the Norwegian town of Drobak. Today this, amongst much more, is what is on offer in Golfo Aranci, especially in the 3-4 months of summer. Just a few miles from Porto Rotondo and Porto Cervo, Olbia Airport is not even half an hour away. A place that has been able to re-invent itself happily, combining tradition, tranquility and dynamism. A confirmation for the tourism of Sardinia and Gallura. A. G.

WHERE TO STAY
Nodu Pianu, the village moments from the sea
B
uilt from the second half of the seventies by two Umbrian brothers, Nodu Pianu is probably the last residential tourist resorts actually built at such a short distance from the sea. Characterized by a hundred concrete and Sardinian stone houses (mono, bi-local and tri-family), known as mushrooms, the village, well known in the area and not only for the possibility of renting apartments, is immersed in the green of Mediterranean scrub. This brings to its guests a true natural enclave, an oasis of tranquility, even halfway between Olbia and the Gulf of Aranci. Nodu Pianu, in fact, is articulated along a beautiful promontory overlooking the island of Tavolara and makes the nature and the proximity to the two beaches of Cala Banana and Nodu Pianu (as well as cobblestone coves along the cliff) - all reachable by foot in a few minutes – being its main strength. Two tennis courts, a small square and a path along the cliff complete thWhere to staye picture. The village of Nodu Pianu, now part of the municipality of Golfo Aranci, does not have internal services which are however all available just outside the resort itself. ince the days of ancient Rome, the Silk Road has brought the “Capital of the World” into contact with the great Celestial Empire. A commercial pattern that stretched for 8,000 km with land, river and sea routes, leaving from Xi'an and then heading for Asia Minor, Japan and Korea, and the Mediterranean crossing the Middle East. In the 21st Century the Silk Road has returned to the field as a key role and places China as the hub of the
world economy for collective growth for Asian, European and African zones. The initiative was announced in September 2013 by President Xi Jinping and named “One Belt One Road”, which includes the owner of the “Silk Road Economic Zone” and the “21st Century Sea Silk Road”. A great style operation that aims to revive China-World interchange. The aim of the project is to start cooperation with the countries through the road, connecting markets through infrastructural works and free trade zones, which par-

ticularly affect the energy sector. The sea route runs across Eastern and Southern Asia, reaching the Mediterranean Sea through the Suez Canal. A project that is tempting for all. And it is no less the case for us: “Italy - said Senate President Pietro Grasso - is undoubtedly in the best position, geographically, culturally and historically to act as a bridge between China and Europe. This was also reiterated by the President of the Council, Paolo Gentiloni. In the near future, Italy aims to strengthen links between the Dragon and Europe by land and by sea. It has recently been discussed in a Senate conference, and in the recent visit of our President Sergio Mattarella to China. But what is the role of Italy within the new Silk Road? The European Corridors affecting the Bel Paese are 4, both terrestrial and maritime, for a total cost of 72 billion euros and allocated resources of 21 billion euros from the state, with another 6 and a half billion funded by the Stability Law. This is a crucial opportunity for economic development and consolidation of the geopolitical importance of the country. Mattarella, during his visit to China, replied that "a new chapter has been opened in relations and Italy believes it can compete
19
New links maritime companies also interested in italian ports The project connects the East with the Heart of Europe
in building the new Silk Road because the Italian port and logistics system offers China the opportunity to complete, in the most efficient and convenient way possible, the last stretch from the road to the heart of Europe." After the Chinese purchase of the Greek port of Piraeus in Greece, Italy is hastening to list the next prospective ports at Hub for the Passage of the Silk Road. Among these, agreements are already in place for the port of Mestre, thus proposing Tianjin and Venice as UNESCO; candidates to seal the beginning and end of the Maritime Way Gioia Tauro and Taranto have been proposed. But despite the geographical advantage it undoubtedly enjoys, Italy is fifty-sixth in the world for the quality of port infrastructure according to the data of the World Economic Forum and today many goods are landed in foreign ports that allow safer times and a more efficient transport scheduling. The risk is to move the axis of the Silk Road to the ports of the Adriatic in the Balkans. It's too high a role in the game. We will see if our country will be able to keep up and speed up our times to make our ports more appealing to the Dragon and thus fully rejoin the most ambitious 21st century world project.

Ten million years ago was the sea in the Amazon?
O
In the future, the sea can be used as a wind farm
T
he sea is a huge source of clean energy, which has so far been minimally exploited. In addition to producing green energy, however, it can also be used as a power accumulator produced in photovoltaic and wind power plants at times when the demand is lower than production. An innovative energy storage system has been developed in a project called StenSea (Stored Energy in the Sea), initiated by the German Federal Minister for Economics and Energy, having worked for the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology. These giant spheres are installed at the bottom of the sea, where energy is accumulated: these balls should be installed on the bottom and then connected to wind turbines of which generate excess electrical energy, which must then be diverted downwards, where the water is pumped out of the spheres. Conversely, when there is a demand for greater electrical power to its production, it will allow the water to return to the marine spheres, thus operating a turbine that will convert the mechanical movement into electricity.
“Sea Monster”, the traveling campaign on the impact of plastic at sea
“S
ea Monster” is an informative campaign, launched in 2016 on board the Amerigo Vespucci ship, which is making its way through the entire nation of Italy. The dissemination exhibition, brought about by a study by the Marevivo environmental association, composed of young researchers coordina-
ted by Professor Giandomenico Ardizzone, University of La Sapienza, in collaboration with the Italian Navy and the CoNISMa (National Interuniversity Consortium for Sea Sciences) Its aim is to sensitize the plague of plastic in the sea, drawing up the food chain that ends up on our tables, causing, among other things, health problems.
ver ten million years ago, probably in the Amazon, there was the sea. This hypothesis stems from new studies published in Science Advanced, conducted by the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama City, who believe that the Caribbean Sea in a time span of about 20 million years has flooded the forest twice, thus creating new evolutionary waves with the emergence of new animal and plant species. But not all the scientific community is convinced of this thesis. The supporters of 'river theory', in fact, would state that fresh water coming down from the Andes brought about these splits, or that in different plant and animal groups, creatures gradually transformed into new species.
Sea or mountain holiday? Let your doctor decide
T
his year will you go on holiday to the sea or the mountains? Let your doctor decide. For example, those who suffer from cardiovascular disorders need a cooler climate than the sea because the heat of the coast increases heart rate in people at risk. Bathing in the sea can help cure psoriasis, but be careful to avoid sunburn. The mountains are the ideal destination for those who suffer from asthma or pollens allergies, because the less polluted air improves the control of the allergy.
