DAR AgNor distributes land titles in Jabonga town

T

he Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Agusan del Norte distributed Certificate of Land Ownership Awards (CLOAs), covering a total of 34-hectare of agricultural lands, to twenty-eight (28) Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) in Jabonga during the celebration of the Araw ng Jabonga celebration on June 30, 2016. The activity was spearheaded by Jabonga Mayor Jasmin F. Monton assisted by Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer (MARPO) Vicente Magallon and some local Jabonga Mayor Jasmin F. Monton hands-over the Certificate of Land Ownership Award (CLOA) to government officials. the the Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) in Jabonga. Certificates of titles handed out to the farmers-beneficiaries were in Barangays Cuyago, Baliguian, Magsaysay, Libas and San Vicente.

Hon. Mayor Jasmin Monton urged the farmer-beneficiaries to take care of the land they till and make it productive and pay the amortization to the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) and the real estate taxes to the government. DAR Agusan del Norte trains farmers on Financial Management he Department of Agrarian Reform T (DAR) conducted a two-day seminar on Financial Management to two farmer-

organizations in Agusan del Norte to enhance the skills of the cooperative officers in basic accounting, bookkeeping and preparation of financial statements held at Philrice Training Center, R.T. Romualdes, this province. Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer (PARPO) Andre B. Atega said the activity is a continuing fulfillment to provide necessary technical assistance to strengthen the capabilities of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations (ARBOs) through the provision of institutional

capability-building trainings to hone their skills and expertise in financial management through presentation and financial exercises. A total of thirty board of directors and officers of Avancena Beneficiaries and Farmers MultiPurpose Cooperative (ABFMPC) and Taguibo Integrated Multi-Purpose Cooperative (TIMPCO) attended the trainings. The said farmer-groups are both active in operating agribusiness enterprise activities. ABFMPC is operating a grain center while TIMPCO is managing a communal irrigation system and production and marketing of organic rice and fertilizer. Participants were challenged to improve their financial operations as they are now

more knowledgeable on the critical role of the cooperative officers in handling organizational financial problems through the use of proven tools. Constancio Dalanon, ABFMPC ViceChairperson, said “we’ve learned useful technique on business financial management to improve our organization’s financial condition.” Preciosa A. Espirito, TIMCO Board of Director, said “the inputs from the training is now a great help in improving our financial system. We use it as a tool to make our organization productive.” •

PARPO II Atega said that the land acquisition and distribution in the province as of December 31, 2015 has an overall accomplishment of 92%, or a distribution of 39,832 hectares out of the total scope of 43,216 hectares distributed to 20,775 soil tillers came from different agrarian reform communities (ARCs) in the province. •

DAR AgNor trains women farmers on coconut sugar production

Women ARB household members, who are looking for livelihood program to earn additional income for their family’s needs, were trained to produce coconut sugar in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA).

The training allows the women to learn the technology to produce coco sugar as additional livelihood. It also empowers women ARBs by making them less dependent on the income of their husbands.

BDOFAI Chairman Lorenzo Salar, Jr. said the training is very timely and useful to cooperative members and officers like them as it provides relevant information on how they can improve their cooperative operations. “I was challenged to further enhance and develop our cooperative with the updates provided in the course. he Department of Agrarian Reform in Agusan del Norte conducted a twoday seminar on Basic Cooperative Course to thirty-four (34) Agrarian Reform Beneficiary (ARB) members of farmers’ cooperatives and associations held recently at Barangay Dulag, Butuan City. The activity aimed to capacitate the farmers on the fundamentals of cooperative formation, identify the importance of legal underpinnings of a cooperative and discuss further the plans, programs and policies of the cooperative. T

hree Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organizations (ARBOs) in Agusan del Norte were named among the honorees in Caraga Region for outstanding performance in the implementation of the Agrarian Production Credit Program (APCP) as Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) celebrates its 28th anniversary of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) held at Robinson Place on June 14, 2016. The conferment of the award was led by DAR Regional Director Julita A. Ragandang with Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Andre B. Atega of DAR Agusan del Norte to the ARBOs that include Baleguian Organic Farmers’ Irrigators Association (BOFIA), Maong Agrarian Reform Farmers’ Cooperative, (MAFCO) and Taguibo Integrated Pest Management Irrigators’ Association (TIPMA). APCP is a financing program being implemented by the DAR, DA and Land Bank to provide credit including development assistance and marketing support to improve the farmers in developing the CARP awarded farmlands.

BOFIA: TOWARDS A NEW MODEL OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT

I

n a poor community where businesses can hardly survive without the required economic liquidity to provide a market for any enterprise, the achievement of Baleguian Organic Farmers Irrigators Association (BOFIA) is a story of struggle in achieving a modicum of economic success through financial discipline inspiring leadership and transparent management. BOFIA Chairman Wenifredo Maldo recently was a recipient of a recognition from the national leadership of Agrarian Production Credit Program (APCP), a credit program of Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and Department of Agriculture (DA) for production capital assistance to farmers, for 100% repayment of loans borrowed by its members. Upon arrival in Butuan and in his visit to DAR from the recognition ceremony held in Cagayan de Oro last March 9 & 10, 2016, Maldo expressed his thanks by saying: “the assistance of DAR is significant only if recipients understands that repayment is not simply returning the money but in demonstrating with our lives and families that we have been better off
