PREMIUM LAGER MARATHON 2022 Celebrating 20 years of Road Running in Moshi! By John Addison

The 27th February 2022 marked race day for the Kilimanjaro Marathon – and a milestone 20th anniversary of the event! And, to help celebrate this, the Tanzanian running talent enjoyed a clean sweep in the top positions in both the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Marathon as well as the Tigo Kili Half Marathon!

e are absolutely delighted by the Tanzanian running talent that was on show this year,” said race director John Addison. “It was fantastic to have representation in all our events across the board finishing in the top 10 positions. The local runners took home top honours in the men’s races by winning the 42km marathon as well as the 21km half marathon. 66

Tanzanian Aloyce Simbu took first position in this year's Full Marathon, in a time of 02:16:30, while Kenyan runner Arnold Kiptaoi finished second in 02:17:04. In the women’s race, Kenyan Shelmith Muriuki won the title in a time of 02:41:05, with fellow Kenyan Flavious Kwamboka finishing second in 02:57:21. In a Tanzania dominated result, Emmanuel Giniki won the 21km men’s title in 01:00:34, as Gabriel Geay and Inyasi Sulley won second and third places respectively in 01:02:04 and 01:04:10. In the ladies race, Agness Ngolo of Kenya fought hard for her clean win of 01:12:16. Tanzanian Jackline Sakilu finished second in a time of 01:14:49, followed closely by fellow Tanzanian Natalie

Among others who took part was Prime Minister Majaliwa ,who participated in Grand Malt’s 5km Fun Run. The Honourable Prime Minister took this opportunity to address the crowds at MoCu Stadium, calling on Tanzanians to value the sports sector as a key element in promoting tourism and economic sectors in the country. He said the presence of the Kilimanjaro Marathon helps promote the country’s Mount Kilimanjaro, and added that through sports the country’s economy can be improved. He stressed that the country needs to develop local sponsors and trainers, and urged the Tanzanian ambassadors abroad to look for opportunities that will help develop Tanzanian sportsmen and women’s careers.
