the GREEN GUIDE TO BRISTOL AND BATH 2017/18
The annual guide to ethical living in Bristol & Bath The Guide
The Facts
The Green Guide to Bristol and Bath is a free directory that lists more than 1,000 green and ethical businesses in the region, in sections including shopping, eating out (and eating in), home and garden, home energy, transport and days out. With exclusive editorial features, great images, money saving tips and more, it’s the must-have reference guide for every green-minded household in the area. Now in its third year, the Green Guide to Bristol and Bath is firmly established as a favourite with businesses, residents and tourists alike.
• Bristol is the only UK city to have been awarded the title European Green Capital.
Distribution Published in September 2017, 20,000 copies of the 100 page, A5 guide will be distributed around the region to businesses, cafés, community centres, tourist information centres, hotels and libraries, as well as door-to-door in selected areas and via veg boxes. More than 5,000 copies are distributed annually through local schools - a figure we’re looking to increase this year. Why Advertise? Just the right size to fit in a pocket or handbag, an advert in the Green Guide to Bristol and Bath will be seen by thousands of shoppers who want to spend money with your business. This is a fantastic opportunity to promote your business to tens of thousands of potential new customers. Produced by Bristol Green Publishing Ltd (the team behind the Bristol Pound Directory, the Big Green Week programme, the Curzon Cinema quarterly and other high profile publications), if you want your business to stand out display adverts start at just £125.
• Bristol has its own currency - The Bristol Pound - designed to support independent businesses in the city. Bath has The Bath Oliver, which rewards voluntary work and community activity with discounts in local shops and businesses. • Both Bath and Bristol are Fairtrade Cities, supporting millions of workers in developing countries around the world. • Bath and Bristol pioneered the use of bio buses, running on human waste and chip fat. • Bath hosted the UK’s first ever farmers’ market in 1987: it’s still running today. • 85% of residents would buy food known to have been grown or produced locally to them rather than buy food produced elsewhere. • The UK headquarters of ethical bank Triodos is in Bristol. • Bath Spa University was ranked 1st out of 46 universities for “Eco-friendly attitude” in the 2016 Student Barometer. • Bristol is home to the Soil Association, the Environment Agency, the BBC Natural History Unit, the Ethical Property Company and Sustrans, the sustainable transport charity behind the development of the National Cycle Network. • In 2008 Bristol became England’s first Cycling City, as part of a £100m government scheme aimed at encouraging cycling. • Five of Bath’s public parks are on the 2017 Green Flag Awards list, which recognises the best-kept green spaces in England and Wales. • Harvest, which started life in Bath, is one of the longest-running organic and vegetarian food co-operatives in the country.
