THE CURZON CINEMA QUARTERLY
The official quarterly programme for Clevedon’s historic Curzon Cinema The Programme
The Facts
The Curzon Cinema Quarterly is a free ‘what’s on’ guide to Clevedon’s historic and much loved community-run cinema, one of the oldest continually running purposebuilt cinemas in the world.
• The Curzon has been entertaining people for over 100 years. There’s been a cinema on the site since 1912: its first screening was a fundraiser for victims of the Titanic disaster. • Around 60,000 tickets are sold each year.
Distribution 6,000 copies of the 32 page, A5 programme are delivered door-to-door to local residents, with further copies distributed via the cinema and at venues around Bristol, including libraries, Tourist Information and St Nicholas’ Market. Readership is around 28,000. Why Advertise? An advert in the Curzon Cinema Quarterly is a simple, cost-effective way for you to be seen by thousands of shoppers who want to support local businesses. With copies also being distributed through carefully selected venues in Bristol, this is a fantastic opportunity to promote your business to tens of thousands of potential new customers. You’re also associating your business with a great community resource at the heart of a thriving, historic seaside town. Produced by Bristol Green Publishing Ltd (the team behind other ethically produced, eco-friendly publications such as the Green Guide to Bristol and Bath, the Bristol Pound Directory, the Big Green Week programme and many others), if you want your business to stand out you can advertise in the programme for as little as £12.50 a month!
• As well as all the major blockbusters, the Curzon also shows a range of independent and arthouse movies and foreign-language films. Then there are Bring Your Baby screenings, a Senior Screenings programme for the over 60s, stand up comedy nights, vintage fairs and a Kid’s Club for five to eleven-year-olds. • The building also houses a smart café and offers rooms for hire for business meetings and groups. • For 20 years the Curzon has been run as a community cinema and is registered as a charity. It’s a labour of love for its 80 volunteers, who cover every job from popcorn selling to building maintenance, as well as its handful of paid staff members. • In 2013 the Curzon Memories mobile device App won an award for best General Education Multimedia project. the App uses GPS and QR codes to trigger the memories of local people in the places where they happened – from kissing in the back row of the cinema, to the bomb that exploded outside in 1941. • The Curzon has two traditional cinema organs - the Compton Melotone Deluxe, which is often heard playing before the films, and a Christie pipe organ which can heard before the main feature on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursday evenings. Keyboard players can book a session on the Christie if they wish! • In October 2017 the Curzon was named as a finalist in the prestigious Screen International Cinema of the Year Awards
