NE of the loveliest ways to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon on the North Coast has got to be listening to good live music on the deck at Canelands Beach Club and Spa in Salt Rock.

Life & Style has had a long and happy association with this premiere beachfront boutique hotel at the edge of the sea and when their newly upgraded restaurant, Two Shrimps, was launched we were excited to see how it would evolve. Chef Shaun McGee has been brought in to create magic in the kitchen and magic is what he delivers. Having honed his craft in establishments like Market, Greedy Buddha and The Oyster Box Hotel, Shaun is now free to create what he feels works best in this laid back coastal setting and the menu reflects what’s fresh, seasonal and delicious. Now, combine this with a knockout view of the breakers and the coolest live jazz on a Sunday afternoon and you have paradise on a plate. I am not a wild fan of live background music because it can sometimes be awfully intrusive. Music in a pub, I can understand. Volume is not a problem when the liquor takes effect and your sense of hearing diminishes, but in a restaurant extraneous volume can make it difficult to hold a conversation. Then, there’s always the awkward moment at the end of a song…should you applaud… or carry on as if nothing has happened? And if you are moved to put your hands

together to show your appreciation at the end of a well-executed piece, will you be alone in this endeavour, embarrassing you and the poor musician? Music and lighting play a pivotal role in creating the right setting for a great dining experience and so often restaurateurs ruin the mood and ambience of even the most interestingly decorated space with a completely random choice of background music. This is often left to the discretion of a duty manager or staff member – bad luck if their idea of cool background music is Pan Pipe favourites or a random compilation of Trance music. But luckily this is definitely not the case at Two Shrimps. On Sunday afternoons this month, you will enjoy some of the best easy-listening jazz standards beautifully performed by an ensemble of really super young musicians. This is as good as it gets and you’d battle to find a better combination anywhere else in the country. We caught them on their first Sunday at Canelands and we were so impressed that I would love to make this a regular event. And the company on the pooldeck at Canelands is generally excellent. Some of Ballito’s most interesting people were there including Palm Lake Estate’s Olivia and Wim Sak who very kindly sent us a bottle of Champagne to make the occasion even more festive! The Canelands Jazz on the Deck initiative is yet another indication of how Brand Ballito is developing into something very special indeed, and I for one, am excited to be here to witness

A HAPPY MORNING AT PALM LAKES

P

ALM LAKES ESTATE continues to enjoy pride of place when it comes to estate living options in the greater Ballito region. Not only does the estate offer excellent value for the investor or homeowner, it is also widely acknowledged as one of the most family friendly environments on the North Coast.

The advantage of having excellent academic and day-care facilities on site is what attracts many young families to the estate and to celebrate the arrival of spring, Trinity House and Prestige Baby Academy hosted a morning of fun at the Mini Palm Clubhouse for all to enjoy. There were various sporting activities on offer as well as a variety of arts and crafts to stimulate creativity, face painting fun for all, a baking station, jumping castle and more. The weather was ideal for a fun event like this and, as you can see from the pics, it was a huge success. It’s moments like these that continue to set Palm Lakes apart as one of the most desirable destinations for families seeking a happier, safer and friendlier alternative. We think it’s one of the finest jewels in the crown of Brand Ballito!

FROM THE HEADMASTER Joe Erasmus – Headmaster, Ashton College

W

E just recently celebrated the beginning of spring which brought to mind the realization that we are fast approaching the end of the year. The students together with teachers and parents, put their academics on pause and celebrated the arrival of spring in a Rio Carnival format. Everyone

participated and got involved in the festivities, all the way from our 3 year-olds to our Form 4’s. The highlight was the colour fest and a wonderful day of fun was experienced by all. It was a true Ashton Day in the sun. It brings to mind a saying from way back when - ‘When we work we work hard, when we play we play hard.’

Spring is really in the air. To add to our spring festivities, we have entered Phase 2 of our development of the Sports Campus, and commenced with clearing the area for the much anticipated Astro Turf. Once the earth works have been finished, the field will be positioned in the best possible way. With our new fields now beginning to look like a cricket oval, with the first cut taking place midway through September, we are anticipating an earlier induction

rade 11 Crawford North Coast schoolgirls, Courtney Fitchat and Derryn Burns have thrown their weight behind a fundraising drive to assist the two orphaned sons of Enforce Security Guard, Moses Makhoba who was killed during an ambush in Ballito two weeks ago .

“The boys, little Msawenkosi (7) and Ayanda (13), lost their mom last year too and that leaves them with their unemployed aunt, and nothing else” says Courtney. “We thought that we could do something practical to help this family and found out that what they need most is: • • • • • • • • • •

Rice Sugar Maize meal Sugar beans Cooking oil Sunlight liquid Vegetables Mayonnaise Beef Chicken

The boys have no school clothes so the following would be much appreciated too: • White shirt 14-15 • White shirt 7-8 • Black shoes size 1 • Black grasshopper size 7 • Black charcoal pants size 28 • Grey pants size 7-8 “We contacted Enforce to get the established trust fund details created for their school fees. We have started a 2 week drive at our school but would love to challenge other North Coast Schools to do the same or better our efforts”, said Deryn. The Enforce Trust Fund bank account details are: Cox Yeats Trust Account Standard Bank, Kingsmead Branch Branch Code: 040026 Account No: 05 011 3682 Please quote deposit reference - 11E184377 FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT: Courtney Fitchat +27 (83) 2293483

of the pitch. The turf wickets have taken extremely well and hopefully will take on a test this year. The new parking area has been a revelation for all parents for collecting and dropping off and for College functions and is being maximised at this stage. It has most certainly alleviated the traffic congestion at the main entrance of the College. One of the most exciting factors with the new sports fields and Astro Turf, is that we are able to host games and tournaments. We will be able to host more home games which benefit the teams and the College.

Lastly, on behalf of Ashton College, we would like to pay tribute to one of our senior students. Toni-Danielle Latchford was an epitome of a true Ashtonian. Toni was an exceptional example of courage and character, who fought a brave battle against Cystic Fibrosis until her very last day. Her tenacity was so encouraging and inspiring and her willingness and determination to succeed was admirable. Toni made sure that she was part and parcel of the College and involved herself wherever she could. Her involvement with the Senior College • Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Re Choir was unforgettable as she always stood tall and proud Educational Psychologist included in school fee singing to her hearts content. She was also a member of the KZN Youth Choir. She was a brave young soul who taught us • Variety of Sport and Cultural Codes offered on humility and not to take everything for granted. Life at our • Expanding - additional Grade 2, Grade 3, Grad College will be different for many of us, and we are poorer for not having Toni around, but hopefully we would have learnt 6 classes some valuable life lessons from the brave young lady. • Our Construction of 19 new Intersen Classrooms with sincere condolences to Michelle, Tony, Justin and family. riday Night saw a new event on the Ballito calendar - The Quarter Boutique Spring Celebration. The Quarter transformed its upper level parking lot into the perfect spot for the community to kick back, relax and enjoy exactly what was promised – a great family night out.

It was extremely well supported by the public and catered for all age groups. Ballito’s very own Jessica Martins opened the event and then crowds were entertained by The Gus Brown band. The Quarter delivered a fabulous, vibrant evening to ring in spring with superb food from local suppliers. Lauren Abdo from Marketing Works who organised the event said: ‘It was fantastic to see the community come out and support this local event. It was so lovely to see how much everyone enjoyed the evening that we might just have to make this an annual event. ‘ Good food, great entertainment, just around the corner –the perfect way to celebrate the start of spring.

PARTS OF THE BODY TO

STEPHANIE WILLS - LIFESTYLE HEALTH

S

PRING has sprung!

Which means it's time to give your body a thorough internal spring clean. Here are 7 areas of the body to focus on and which supplements Lifestyle Health recommends to support effective detoxification:

1. LIVER

Cleanse, rejuvenate and improve liver function with the following supplements: - Milk Thistle helps to eliminate the buildup of heavy metals, prescription medications, environmental pollutants, and alcohol in the liver. The active ingredient silymarin helps to strengthen the cell walls in the liver, while supporting healthy regeneration. - Liquorice enhances the function of the liver as well as provides protection from toxic damage. - Turmeric is a powerful natural antioxidant that supports healthy liver tissue and liver metabolism. - Taurine is an amino acid that is required by the liver for the removal of toxic chemicals from the body. - Beetroot Powder supports liver detoxification, improves liver function and enhances the metabolism of fats within the liver. - Chlorella is naturally high in chlorophyll, which is well known for its potent internal detoxing and chelating properties, assisting the body in the removal of toxins. - Dandelion Root has a natural diuretic effect, allowing your liver to eliminate toxins more quickly.

2. GALLBLADDER

The gallbladder functions as a storage unit for the bile produced by the liver. Support gallbladder detox with the following: - Dandelion Root enhances gallbladder function and has cleansing properties. - Beetroot powder enhances bile flow. - Omega 3 fish oils reduce the formation of gallstones by enhancing bile flow and blocking cholesterol formation in the bile. - Guar gum decreases cholesterol levels – a primary goal of gallstone treatment. - Vitamin C. Low levels are associated with the development of gallstones. - Lecithin, a phospholipid that reduces the saturation of cholesterol in bile that leads to stone formation as well as improves bile flow. - Artichoke contains caffeylquinic acids, which promote bile flow.

toxins in the body and helps to carry them out of the colon. - Flaxseeds absorb water and expand in the colon, allowing toxins and mucus to be removed. - Apple pectin is a gel forming fibre which binds onto toxins supporting their excretion. - Pau d'arco is an amazing anti-candida herb that nourishes the body's defence system and helps protect against pathogenic organisms. - Slippery elm bark draws out impurities and toxins. Slippery elm's coating action soothes the irritated tissues of the intestines, colon, and urinary tract, as well as stomach ulcers. - Liquorice root stimulates the production of digestive fluids and bile, soothes ulcers, helps reduce intestinal inflammation, and improves blood supply to the intestinal lining. - L-Glutamine helps heal damaged gut lining. * Probiotics: After a thorough colon cleanse it is essential to supplement with high dose probiotics to help replenish the population of friendly bacteria which resides in your colon.

5. BLOOD

It is important to cleanse the blood to help eliminate systemic pathogens, remove toxic residues, stimulate the lymph system (which is essential for keeping your blood clean), and assist the immune system with breaking down cancerous cells. - Red Clover is an excellent blood purifier that over time gradually cleanses the bloodstream and corrects deficiencies in the circulatory system - Burdock root cleanses the blood by increasing the effectiveness of all the body's elimination systems. It's diuretic effect helps the kidneys filter impurities from the blood. - Cayenne is extremely beneficial for the circulatory system, helping to improve the elasticity of the walls of both the arterial and venous systems, maintain normal blood platelet function, and to help regulate blood pressure.

6. LUNGS

Our kidneys filter the blood that circulates through our bodies, separating out water and waste products of metabolism from the blood and excreting them through the urinary tract. Support kidney detox with the following: - Burdock Root gently supports the flushing of unwanted toxins from the kidneys. - Aloe Vera Juice is great for kidney cleansing. - Vitamin B-6 helps prevent the formation of calcium oxalate. - Vitamin C supports the kidneys and helps keep them clear of kidney stones, especially urate stones which form as a result of uric acid crystal deposits - Magnesium lowers urinary oxalate, which is a mineral salt. - Uva Ursi (bearberry) soothes and tones the urinary tract and supports kidney cleansing. - Horsetail is a common weed with antioxidant and diuretic properties. It’s helpful for increasing urine output to flush the kidneys and urinary tract.

In order to function optimally, the lungs need clean air. Stop smoking and avoid environmental pollutants. Also avoid inhaling respiratory irritants such as hair spray and artificial fragrances. The following supplements encourage lung detox: - Oregano contains carvacrol and rosmarinic acid. Both compounds are natural decongestants and histamine reducers that have direct, positive benefits on the respiratory tract and nasal passage airflow. - Lobelia contains an alkaloid known as lobeline, which thins mucus, breaks up congestion. It helps relax smooth muscles and allows for easier breathing. - N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) improves lung function, eliminates mucus and opens up the airways. - Serrapeptase enzymes are very powerful enzymes capable of eating up scar tissue, heavily calcified tissue or hardened mucus deposits.

4. COLON

7. LYMPH

3. KIDNEYS

Disease usually begins with a toxic bowel. Give your colon a good cleanse by supplementing with the following: - Aloe ferox is renowned for its remarkable natural colon cleansing benefits. The main active ingredient is the anthraquinone, aloe-emodin, which works as an effective natural laxative and colon cleanser. - Psyllium provides fibre to support bowel function and regularity. - Bentonite clay absorbs water to form a gel. It binds

The lymph system is the body's mechanism to wash tissues of toxins, passing them back into the bloodstream to be cleansed by the liver and kidneys. - Cleavers enhances the function of the lymphatic system and decreases congestion and inflammation

in the tissues. This herb improves the capacity of the lymphatic system to deal with toxins. - Astragalus is an excellent lymphatic system cleanser. It helps alleviate congestion and swelling in the body. - Echinacea combines well with astragalus to lessen congestion and swelling in the lymphatic system.

LIFESTYLE RECOMMENDATIONS

To maximise the effectiveness of the aforementioned detoxification supplements please apply these simple food and lifestyle recommendations:

- Eat real food. - Avoid all processed food, artificial additives, preservatives and sweeteners. - Cut out sugar, gluten and dairy. - Drink 1-2 litres of pure filtered water daily – especially when increasing dietary fibre. - Reduce intake of stimulants and toxins such as caffeine, cigarettes, alcohol and drugs. - Do not overeat. - Eat when relaxed, and take your time, chewing food well. - Avoid having large amounts of fluid with meals. - Sleep! - Do some gentle exercise and practice meditation or deep breathing. Note: Always check with your trusted health care practitioner before taking any new supplements, especially if you are on medication. Have a happy healthy day!

LATHER, RINSE.... REVERSE? BRENDAN BROEDELET - INNOVATIONS HAIR ACADEMY

S

HAMPOO then condition. Regardless of what products you use, most of us were taught to wash our hair the same way: rinse, lather, rinse, repeat and then condition. Doing anything but that probably seems a bit odd.

But recently we’ve seen a number of overseas haircare brands have started rolling out lines that ask us to switch things up: condition before shampooing. According to them we’ve been doing it wrong all this time, conditioning before you shampoo is apparently great for adding nourishment to fine hair without weighing it down. They say that it also primes the hair before cleansing, allowing your shampoo to distribute easier and more evenly, and that it promotes a longer lasting blow-dry. They also claim that people with thin hair are not the only ones who can benefit from the switch. Those with hair prone to greasiness, or treated hair that tangles easily, can benefit from a pre-shampoo condition.

The conditioner is given a chance to strengthen and hydrate hair, without the risk of a greasy build-up. The jury is out on whether this is just the latest gimmick to sell new a new line of products or a haircare routine revolution - but extra hydration sans-weight does sound like an appealing proposition. So if you do want to give this a go - rather than waiting for the new products to hit our shores - take your normal shampoo and conditioner and use them in reverse order. If you are going to try this here are some things to keep in mind: • If your hair is thick or course you may benefit from a condition-shampoo-condition regimen. • When we condition normally, post-shampoo, we often only apply conditioner from our ears down, focusing on the ends of our strands to avoid hair

getting weighed down or oily at the roots. But if you are cleansing afterwards, you can condition thoroughly from root-to-tip. • If you typically lather up twice, you can try scrubbing the conditioner into your hair like a shampoo – it should act a bit like a facial oil cleanser, only for your hair. Happy Styling!

CELEBRATING THE SWEETEST DAY OF THE YEAR

S

EPTEMBER IS CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH.

This year National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer will be held on the 24th September at 63 participating malls across the country.

Cupcakes of Hope is a nonprofit company that aims to create awareness and raise funds for children with cancer through their love of baking cupcakes. Last year Cupcakes of Hope raised R1.5 million on National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer. This money has helped more than 500 patients by paying for their medical or other day today expenses. Cupcakes of Hope also spoils patients on their birthdays and organizes special 'end of treatment' surprises. Sandy Cipriano, founder of Cupcakes of Hope, says, “It is amazing to see how the whole community gets involved to help these brave little patients.” On the 24th September, members of the public can visit any participating mall where, for a R10 donation, they will receive a delicious cupcake that has been made with love. Although the main fundraising event happens in September, Cupcakes of Hope holds awareness events throughout the year. Schools, companies and individuals can also host their own Party of Hope by registering online. Once registered, they will receive a free Angel Party Pack that includes awareness pamphlets, baking cups, badges and balloon everything you need to prepare for your Party of Hope. Party of Hope co-ordinator, Michelle Larsen says, “We invite young and old to become Cupcake Angels, it’s by far the SWEETEST

ANY that I speak to complain of a faulty memory. The human brain has an amazing capacity to learn and remember. The secret is to make the most of what we have.

Usually we are doing things completely unconsciously - that’s why we go back to the kitchen to put the kettle on only to find we have already done it. Stimulate your mind by trying to be present in all you do. Think about it - without your memory you would look at a stranger in the mirror each morning. Imagine not knowing your history, what you've experienced, what you wish to bring to your future. Memory is precious, enlarges our world and gives us a sense of continuity. Stimulate your brain by listening and learning something new. Anyone who has attempted a yoga class will attest to

the challenging experience of following the instructions and directing your body accordingly - it’s an undeniable brain lift. Find something you believe to be worth remembering and determine to train your brain to hold onto the information - it’s brain exercise! Drink sufficient water - dehydration can cause mental confusion. Get enough sleep - during sleep the brain stores memories. Practice a bright alert expression - so many older people look tired and defeated. Open your eyes to the interesting things around you. My aloes are in full flower and my garden is full of sunbirds. Be interested to find out about different species, consult a bird book - books are a readily accessible endless source of interest and information. Pick up one of our little newspapers and read something with a determination to comprehend what is being said and cultivate an interest in something other than what you already know. Be open to hearing and considering the opposing point of view. Avoid alcohol abuse and smoking. Alcohol interferes with short-term memory, alcoholism leads to a deficiency of vitamins that are essential to the proper function of the memory. Smoking reduces oxygen to the brain. When you understand something you simply know it as a fact and the information is retained. Grow in understanding - don’t become quickly bored and disinterested. Give something the opportunity to be interested enough in, to make a difference to your mind. It becomes a habit to just glance halfheartedly at everything with no real interest - say “No!” . Read it again - see the interest factor. We allow our minds to become dull in the same way we allow our bodies to stop working. Are you constantly losing words, stopping to find the word you are looking for? Don’t skim over it - use the opportunity to find the word - it will come to you. Don’t babble or mumble, speak clearly with intention and the words will come. Practice conversation, practice retrieving words you’ve forgotten - it’s in there - it will come to you. Make use of our beautiful English language. Slow down and give things more attention. You can’t remember everything with utter clarity - be grateful for efficient forgetting of the irrelevant and focus on the ability to comprehend and retain enormous quantities of interesting facts and general knowledge. Do yoga - its stimulating to every conceivable part of your body - including your brain - be interesting and interested! Namaste. 072 885 6376

THE RENOVATION DREAM TEAM PROGRESS REPORT.

T

HIS past fortnight has seen the project come together in so many ways that the end is tantalising close…so near and yet…so far!

As is bound to happen, we also hit some snags that created a series of challenges that had to be overcome. For some peculiar reason, we ran out of tiles. This would ordinarily not be too serious a situation, but in our case, the tiles selected for the project are now almost impossible to find and are out of stock almost everywhere. After an initial panic, Daniel Maistry from Redd Tile saved the day by locating some in Boksburg! This obviously meant extra cost and inconvenience as work in this arena stopped while we waited for them to arrive. Luckily the delay was minimised by Daniel’s quick intervention – that’s why we recommend Redd Tile and selected them as our preferred supplier of tiles and mosaics for the renovation.

NEVER select tiles that are going to be difficult to source and always keep a box or two spare for future repairs. Plumbing KZN did some excellent remedial work this fortnight, relocating water pipes both for aesthetic and practical reasons and they did this quickly and efficiently with a minimum of disruption to the general flow of work. They will be installing the “furniture” in the main en suite bathroom, guest toilet and kitchen shortly and we will feature this in our next edition. Another potential problem we encountered was the premature installation of the kitchen units. These should ideally be installed after all of the construction work, tiling and painting has been completed as they are prone to damage. One of the main problems is the exposure of the sensitive touch mechanisms to dust which can damage them terminally. To avoid this, they have been covered in plastic, but with all of the dust they have been exposed to, this may have been too little too late…time will tell.

TOP TIP

Don’t install the kitchen units until all of the construction work and finishes are complete - Festina Lente…Hasten Slowly! The first floor decking has been almost completed and North Coast Sundecks has done an awesome job so far. It’s been fascinating to watch this excellent team of carpenters working meticulously to create what to all intents and purposes is a practical work of art, opening up the second level of the building and creating additional space and flow. This aspect of the renovation has been masterful and highly recommended to add that “Wow” factor. Ohms Electrical has been busy on site chasing walls and laying cables in preparation for the new lighting plan. It looks hugely complex to my layman’s eye but this is an excellent team and nothing seems to phase them. The fittings have been sourced from Global Light Fittings and Allied Supplies in Ballito and Jacques Wright has been brilliant, sourcing the best fittings from both an aesthetic and practical point of view. Coastal conditions wreak havoc on light fittings and without good advice you can end up wasting a small fortune. The paint has arrived on site from TrenDIY Salt Rock and the selected palette is looking good in shades of grey which is apparently in vogue. In the next edition we will see the finished kitchen, the interiors will be skirted and architraves and cornices fitted, the tiling will be completed and the interior light fittings will be installed…watch this space.

Section 152 of the Constitution places an obligation on local government to “encourage the involvement of communities and community organization in the matters of local government”. Section 155(6) (a) and (b) provides that each provincial government by legislative and other measures must provide for monitoring and support of local government. Promote the development of local government capacity to enable municipalities to perform their functions and manage their own affairs. The legislative provisions for the establishment, operations and de- establishment of ward committees are also contained in Section 72 to 78 of the Municipal Structures Act. With local government elections coming, the term of office for ward committees elected in 2011 has come to an end. KwaDukuza Municipality is in the process of facilitating the election of new ward committees that are going to be a link between communities and the municipality. This is in line with Chapter 4 of the Municipal Structures Act which stipulates that municipalities must develop a culture of community participation by encouraging and creates conditions for the community to participate in the affairs of the municipality. It is against the background that KwaDukuza Municipality invites interests groups operating within the municipal area of jurisdiction including the following; NGO’s, Youth organization, Women organization, Civic association, Business sector, Rate payers associations, Faith Based associations etc to provide their details to the municipality. The Municipality is in a process of establishing stakeholder’s database and all the above mentioned sectors and stakeholders within KwaDukuza jurisdiction are invited to register in the municipal database. This database is important and forms a key component of the ward committee election process to be conducted in the next few weeks.Registration forms will be obtained at KwaDukuza Municipality Offices, Public Participation Section (OK Mall) and be returned by no later than 23 September 2016 (Friday). Forms can also be downloaded from our municipal website www.kwadukuza.gov.za For more information you can contact Ms Thokozani Kubone or Thuli Cele at 032 4375009/032 4375027 NJ MDAKANE MUNICIPAL MANAGER P O BOX 72 KWADUKUZA 4450

DAVID BECKHAM’S TRIUMPH BONNEVILLE

T

he Triumph Bonneville was originally released in 1959, it quickly became a very popular motorcycle on both sides of the Atlantic thanks to the performance and extensibility it offered. The fundamentals of the model have remained solid over the intervening decades, Bonnevilles have all had parallel twin, air-cooled, four stroke engines that could be modified extensively for racing or street performance.

would have to be David Beckham and Chris Pratt. The former recently rode a customised Bonneville through the Amazon and the latter rode a Bonneville-based Scrambler in the recent film Jurassic World. After finishing their respective films both men decided they wanted their own Triumph for personal use, Chris kept one of the three identical bikes that had been developed for Jurassic World and

In 2000 Triumph unveiled their new Bonneville and it quickly shot to the top of the best seller list, in the 15 years since it was first unveiled the model has been modified, tweaked and customised in almost every conceivable way – and a slew of companies have popped up to provide custom parts and upgrades. The two most famous modern Triumph owners

Triumph offered to have a custom Bonneville created for Beckham by British Customs. In order to create a bike that David could use as both a daily rider and a weekend trail hunter the team at British Customs set about creating a hybrid between a cafe racer and a scrambler. The first order of business was to further improve performance, so a set of Drag Pipes were installed along with the Airbox Elimination Kit, Air Injection Block Off Plugs, and Stage 1 Street Cams. A custom tune was then needed to get it all

HOW TO PROTECT CHROME FROM RUSTING

N

OTHING enhances the look of a car, truck or motorcycle like the shine of chrome. It can cover everything from tire rims and headlights, to front grilles and exhausts. However, these parts will get exposed to oxygen and water and begin a chemical reaction known as oxidation and create what we know as rust. Chrome is a very strong metal and known to be very resistant to rust, but it is still susceptible. Proper cleaning and maintenance will remove small, unseen rust and protect new rust from forming on your chrome parts. THINGS YOU'LL NEED

Bucket of water Car wash solution 3 clean, non-abrasive cloths Towel Chrome metal polish Spray-on corrosion protectant

•Mix a car wash solution with water. Wash the chrome with a clean, non-abrasive cloth and soapy water. •Dry the washed area completely with a clean towel. Make sure there is nothing in or on the towel that might scratch the chrome. •Apply a small amount of the chrome metal polish to a clean cloth and rub the polish over the entire surface of the chrome. •Apply additional polish to the cloth to dirty or rusted spots and continue rubbing until the area is clean or the spot has disappeared. It is normal for the cloth to show a black residue as you clean. •Wipe away the polish residue with a new clean cloth. •Spray the corrosion protectant over the entire surface of the chrome. Most chrome polishes leave a layer of protectant on the chrome, but this will increase that level of protection.

working at peak efficiency, significantly improving horsepower according the the trusty old seat-of-the-pants dyno. The original factory-spec tires were replaced with a pair of chunky Continental TKC80s, a new leather Slammer Seat was also fitted along with a new headlight and mesh grill. Perhaps the most appealing feature on the build is the use of the Motogadget Mini speedometer/odometer/on-board computer that’s been seamlessly integrated thanks to a Bonneville Triple Clamp – take a look at the image below to see it. In order to scroll through the display options a switch was then added to the inner end of the clutch side clip-on. The finished bike has now been delivered to Beckham who can occasionally be seen piloting it around the streets of his home town.

BMW TEASES US WITH A POSSIBLE K1600 BAGGER EDITION

Y

es! It’s time for the yearly motorcycle industry arms to spark ahead of the world’s largest and most popular motorcycle shows. And guess what? BMW has teased us again with a possible K1600 Bagger edition.

While at Villa d’Este, CEO Stephan Schaller reported to have said there’s a big surprise coming for BMW Motorcycle fans this year, and most people in his close circle have confirmed it’s in fact regarding the all-elusive bagger. In this photo you can see the gorgeous renderings courtesy of, Nicola Petit of Wunderlich, and he manages to capture the essence of the K1600GTL Bagger. While there aren’t any details or specifications on the hypothetical future of the Bagger, Mr. Schaller has confirmed it was originally based on the ‘Concept 101’ machine previously unveiled as a prototype. Rumours of a revamped K1600GT being unveiled soon are also spreading like wildfire, while most believers of the Bagger look forward to the Intermot event as the place where the K1600 Bagger will be unveiled.
