many challenges facing us here at present and with so many demands on our time, juggling family, work and friends, it can be hard to find time for yourself. So I thought it would be good to combine some thoughts and ideas on the subject from a range of sources that I trust impeccably, to give you something to think about. Don't forget to play. This is something we can easily allow to slip away as adults. Whether it's a board game, sport, or an artistic pursuit… have some fun! Say no. Give yourself permission to say no to doing things that make you unhappy and yes to the things you'd rather do instead. Exercise. Even if it's just regular walks. One of the most effective ways of being kind to your mind and body is to exercise. But...stop doing exercise that doesn't make you smile or laugh! Go rollerblading or dancing or cycling instead! Life's too short to choose misery. 'No pain, no gain' only goes so far. Accept compliments. If someone says something nice to you or about you, rather than deny what they said, graciously thank them for their kindness. Stop complaining. It rarely helps and who's listening anyway? If you need help, ask for it. Whatever it is you're going through now, be sure that many others, just like you, have been through exactly the same experiences before, and come out the other side in one piece. Ask

them for guidance. It's okay to cry. Grant yourself permission here and now to sob when your heart is hurting. Crying is completely natural, stress-relieving and usually makes us feel a bit better. If you're a man reading this, please read this point again. Then read it once more. Walk tall and look the world right in the eye. Lift your head as you walk - and SMILE as you go! Practice gratitude. Regularly allow yourself a few moments to close your eyes and think on the great things you do have in your life. Me time. Make a date with yourself. Make sure you get time that is free of other people's plans. So, no agenda, just you doing (or not doing) whatever it is you want. Laugh. Laugh lots. Laugh loudly. Laugh regularly. Whatever it is that makes you laugh like that...get/do/see more of it. Eat your favourite food. Make a tasty meal or maybe even take yourself out to dinner to eat in the peaceful company of YOU. Stop trying so hard to control things. Life is mostly unpredictable. The greater we're able to gently surrender to this truth, the greater the peace of mind we will realise.
Perspective. When bad things next happen to you, instead of asking, "why me," ask yourself "what is my lesson here"? Being liked. No matter who you are or what you say or do, not everyone is going to like you so understand that and move on. Speak the truth. It's not always possible, or even wise or kind, to be completely, 100 percent honest, however, if you're truthful, life is easier and far less complicated.

Artificial intelligence is a very real threat and robots could wipe out humanity by ACCIDENT, claims expert
F
rom The Terminator to Transcendence, Hollywood sci-fi films have taught us not to trust robots. Now one expert has made a prediction that's just as terrifying as the bleakest plot: that in the future, intelligent robots will be smarter and
faster than humans, take over the running of countries and have the ability to wipe us out altogether. Dr Stuart Armstrong believes it’s a race against time to develop safeguards around artificial intelligence research, before robots outwit us - or even accidentally cause our demise. Speaking at a debate Contact on artificial Shane Duncan - 083 549 5554 intelligence 032 525 8300 (T) in London, 032 525 8296 (F) he warned shane@rockpotskzn.co.za that humans www.rockpotskzn.co.za could be Stunning range of Traditional and Contemporary wiped out Garden Pots, Feature Pots and Water Features even if NEW RANGE OF MOSAIC POTS!! robots are instructed to protect people. believes machines will work at speeds inconceivable to the human brain and will skip communicating with humans to take control of the economy and financial markets, transport, healthcare and more. The robots will have what’s known as artificial general intelligence (AGI), enabling them to do much more than carry out specific and limited tasks. ‘Anything you can imagine the human race doing over the next 100 years there's the possibility AGI will do very, very fast,’ he said. Dr Armstrong is concerned that a simple instruction to an AGI to ‘prevent human suffering’ could be interpreted by a super computer as ‘kill all humans’ or that ‘keep humans safe’ could lead to machines locking people up. ‘There is a risk of this kind of pernicious behaviour by an AI,' he said, adding that human language is subtle and can be easily misinterpreted. ‘You can give AI controls, and it will be under the controls it was given. But these may not be the controls that were meant.’ He predicts that it will be difficult to tell whether a machine has deadly ‘intentions’ or not and could act as if it is a benefit to humanity right until the point it takes control of all functions. Professor Stephen Hawking has previously told the BBC: 'The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race.' This echoes claims he made earlier in the year when he said success in creating AI 'would be the biggest event in human history, [but] unfortunately, it might also be the last.'

Admiral Nelson's HMS Victory to be painted a LEMON colour after museum scrapes off 72 layers of paint to find its original look as part of £40million restoration

dmiral Nelson's flagship, the HMS Victory, is to be repainted a delicate lemon colour as part of restoration works on the 200-year-old vessel. Workers from the National Museum of the Royal Navy said the new shade would be more authentic than the current orange hue after scraping off 72 layers of paint to find the original colour. The first coat of new paint was today drying on the hull of the vessel, which carried Lord Nelson during his historic victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. At the time of the conflict, the duty of maintaining the ship, including the paintwork, would have fallen to the Admirals' right-hand man, Captain Thomas Hardy. But now the re-painting, set for completion in September, is being overseen by Andrew Baines, head of historic ships at the Royal Navy museum. He said: 'HMS Victory is a unique and extremely complex archaeological artefact. 'Her fabric retains evidence of the ship's construction, modification, repair and conservation between 1759 and the
The repainting forms part of £40million restoration works on the ship, where Lord Nelson was killed during the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805
present day. 'As such her timbers are artefacts and an incredibly rich source with literally dozens of layers of paint which have been analysed. 'By combining the archaeological evidence supplied and the original accounts for Victory's stores, held by the National Museum, we have been able to pinpoint precisely the colours worn by Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. 'Visually there are also going to be some very big changes. She is going to look very different. 'The colour is much paler than what we have at the moment. 'A lot of very thorough work has gone into this. You don't just change the colour of HMS Victory without being absolutely certain; which we are. 'This is how she would have looked in Nelson's day.' This latest round of maintenance work - costing as much as £40 million - is set to be the largest of its kind on any historical warship. It is also the most comprehensive work to be done on the HMS Victory since she was first installed in dry dock at the heart of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard in the 1920s. A full plan and its costs is expected to be announced in October, but work has already begun. The warship is held in place in her dry dock in Portsmouth, Hants, by 22 steel cradles - which were put in when she was first docked there in the 1922. But the weight of the ship around such a small number of supporting structures is causing damaging levels of stress on the timbers. Now another 136 individual supports will be installed, at a cost of around £1.2m to £2.5m, by this time next year. Efforts to stop water from soaking
through her timbers and causing rot is well under way and work has also been done to the fire suppression system, after a devastating blaze on board the 1869 clipper ship Cutty Sark during its own restoration. The scale of the work means the Victory may not see her masts returned until 2030. Mr Baines added: 'We are looking at a programme that is going to be around £35m to £40m in costs. That is going to be a huge amount for us to carry. But I am confident we are going to be able to do it. 'The important thing is so far we have stopped the rain getting in and we will have supported her better so she is in a much more stable position for the rest of the conservation work to begin. 'Nobody has ever done a project of this scale before and it is a truly unique situation, so the order of the day is slow and steady. 'You don't take any risks with something like HMS Victory.' The warship, which has been in dry dock since 1922 and has seen more than 25 million people walk her decks, last went through a conservation project in 1955 which was eventually completed in 2002.

'Watermelon Toast'
Is the Bizarre New Food Trend in Taiwan, With Hundreds Queuing Every Day to Get Their Hands on A Loaf - Which Tastes Nothing Like the Fruit
B
read that looks just like watermelon has become the hottest food in Taiwan. Jimmy's Bakery, in Yilan County, is selling loaves of the vibrant green, pink and black 'watermelon toast'. Hundreds of customers have started lining up every day to get their hands on a prized loaf, according to CCTV News. The bread - which tastes nothing like watermelon is made with charcoal, green tea and strawberry food colouring to create the bright colours of the seeds, rind and flesh. The bread is also sold with yellow 'flesh'. A YouTube video showing how the bizarre bread can be created at home reveals that it can taste like chocolate, strawberry or green tea. Hundreds of fans have uploaded snaps of the snack to social media, with
one Instagram user saying they had driven two hours just to sample the bread. Other social media shots show the small store with a crowd of eager customers snaking out on to the street. A crowd controller can be see monitoring the queue as they wait to purchase the Watermelon Toast.

The bakery, which sells the unusual snack by the loaf or sliced and toasted, makes approximately

Why Am I Not Losing Weight?

Johan Dorfling - Personal Trainer
I
t's funny how you find a lot of Personal Trainers and exercise professionals go on and on about diets and supplements to their clients when their job in actual fact is dishing out exercise.
I've also found myself preaching, almost begging clients to eat more vegetables and less sugar because at the end of the day, you cannot out train a bad diet! I've even had clients questioning me with arms crossed and a tapping foot, "I've been training for weeks now, why am I not losing weight? “ My first reply to this is always, have you been eating healthy to which unsurprisingly the answer is always yes! In my early days as a personal trainer, I questioned myself. “Am I doing the right exercise for this client? What am I doing wrong? As I became more experienced, I started realising, clients are not only lying to me, they are lying to themselves! I remember the one day a client again asking me why she was not losing weight. My automatic response was "Have you been good with your eating?" (I actually hate using the word diet!) "Yes I have been!" was her reply. I then asked her to quickly take me through what she had eaten yesterday to see if there is anything we could improve on. She paused for a minute, then said: "Oh, yesterday wasn't such a good day." I then asked her "ok, and the day before that?” Also not good." I suggested that we keep a food journal for the next week and see how things go to which she agreed.
I felt a bit like a school teacher marking my clients’ eating a week later. It actually scared me what this client thought was healthy. "Surely just a little bit can't be bad for you?" Surely 1 teaspoon of sugar in your coffee can't be that bad for? How about 1 teaspoon per coffee, 3 coffees a day, 365 days per year? That is about 5, 5 kg of sugar or the equivalent of 2, 5 kg of fat in calories! That day I realized that you can "con" yourself about what is healthy. Again I find myself preaching about nutrition when my
FOR

PERSONAL TRAINING...
job is exercise. Bottom line is that nutrition is crucial not only when exercising for fat loss, but for performance as well. More times than not, I can tell by my client’s performance whether they have been eating healthy. Quickest way to get fit is by eating clean. The fat loss is just an added bonus. There are a lot of fitness and nutrition experts out there, in fact, every person considers themselves an expert based on the little bits of info they have put together from reading the odd Huisgenoot and scrolling through Facebook. My advice to you is to keep a journal for a while, write down what you eat and drink, when and how you train and take it to an experience professional for analysis. You might be surprised at what you are doing wrong and how easy it is to change.

holiday feeding project, and playing educational games etc. amongst other interaction with the residents. Evidence that the occasion made significant impact was apparent by the Quotes from the students: -
n 24th & 25th June Crawford College grade 10 students visited SummerHill House in Etete to share an experience which would be lasting and impactful. Moira Mirtle, owner of meaningful minutes, confirmed that this event, together with the students input and activities, contributed to positive outcomes and impact. These events are designed specifically to teach life lessons through designed activities resulting in progressive results. Visitors to the organisations are first briefed in the plight and needs of those less fortunate to gain knowledge and background of the reason for the birth of needy organisations in our community. Impact was certainly made, while under the supervision of Meaningful Minutes these students took no time at all getting confidently involved in the planting of flowers and hedges, reading to the children, helping with SummerHill House

e love the way Citroen has changed the motoring paradigm with the introduction of the Cactus by keeping it simple:
Simple to Love… Pure, functional styling Simple to Live… Bold design and intuitive technologies Simple to Share… A user-friendly cabin and connected driving interface. INGENIOUS DESIGN The interior of the Citroën Cactus is designed for comfort and sharing, with space freed up for both the driver and passengers. The aim was to declutter the interior in order to provide more space for a relaxed ambience. The slim, floating dashboard leaves the floor completely free. The upper part features a roomy, easily accessible storage compartment for the front passenger. This design was made possible by using a 100% digital interface and by optimising the organisation of the driving position. The front seats also benefit from this new architectural approach. Their sofa-style design is more comfortable and user-friendly. The slim, floating dashboard leaves the floor completely free. The upper part features a roomy, easily accessible storage compartment for the front passenger. This design was made possible by using a 100% digital interface and by optimising the
organisation of the driving position.
USER-FRIENDLY TECHNOLOGIES The technologies used by the Citroën Cactus are squarely focused on the new needs of motorists: • Easy to use • Economical and ecological in use • Accessible to everybody and connected. The 8-inch touchscreen is a perfect example, with all the functions in the centre of the dashboard. PG 21
