Synod Final English Report Published True Marriage is Defended Sacred Tradition Stands Those worried about the homosexual agenda of certain Church prelates on the structure and meaning of true marriage and family need not be as concerned now with the release of the English version of the final report of the ‘Synod on the Family’, held in Rome in October 2015.

Aliquam

Basically, the Synod has strongly endorsed traditional Catholic doctrine while emphasizing compassion for those afflicted with same-sex attraction. There is to be no change in traditional marriage roles, marriage remains a sacred sacrament.

“Quite appropriately, we can use a Christocentric hermeneutic to understand the natural properties of marriage, which make up the goods of the spouses, namely, union, openness to life, fidelity and indissolubility. …We maintain that these forms—still based on the true and stable relationship of a man and woman—are ordered to the Sacrament of Matrimony.” To read more, click this link, http://www.ncregister.com/bl og/gstanton/the-synodsremarkably-strong-final-report

The Spiritual Battle of Our Time Pope St. John Paul II said many times during the 26 years of his pontificate that we are living at the time of the greatest battle between good and evil that the world has ever seen. He would often make the observation that one of the worst things about this spiritual battle is that relatively few people even seemed to know that it is even taking place, precisely because the spiritual

blindness so characteristic of this age is so pervasive, growing wider and deeper with every passing year. Contemplative Prayer - Father Benedict Catholic Meditation through a deepening prayer life Groeschel Fr. Benedict Groeschel teaches about the Catechism and the bible with an emphasis on prayer. His discussion of prayer is based on the premise that an essential condition of prayer is devotion- the belief that God is listening and cares for us. In "Prayer in the Catechism", Fr. Groeschel discusses the various kinds of prayer, including a special emphasis on using scripture when praying. The catechism contains basic Christian teaching formatted for learning and understanding. Fr. Groeschel, CFR, was a Catholic priest, retreat master, author, psychologist, and activist. Sadly, he passed away in 2014. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeMheOdU 3

Pray to Our Lady of Guadalupe (Pope John Paul II, January 25, 1979) O Immaculate Virgin, mother of the true God and mother of the Church! You, who ‌ revealed your clemency and your pity to all those who ask for your protection, hear the prayer that we address to you with filial trust, and present it to your Son Jesus, our sole Redeemer. Mother of Mercy, teacher of hidden and silent sacrifice, to you ‌ we dedicate on this day all our being and all our love. We also dedicate to you our life, our work, our joys, our infirmities, and our sorrows. Grant peace, justice, and prosperity to our people, for we entrust to your care all that we have and all that we are, our Lady and Mother. We wish to be entirely yours and to walk with you along the way of complete faithfulness to Jesus Christ and his Church: hold us always in your loving hand. Virgin of Guadalupe, Mother of the Americas, we pray to you for all the bishops, that they may lead the faithful along paths of intense Christian life, of love and humble service of God and souls. Grant to our homes the grace of loving and respecting life in its beginnings, with the same love with which you conceived in your womb the life of the Son of God. Blessed Virgin Mary, protect our families, so that they may always be united, and bless the upbringing of our children. Thus, Most Holy Mother, with the peace of God in our conscience, with our hearts free from evil and hatred, we will be able to bring to all true joy and true peace, which come to us from your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who with God the Father and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns forever and ever Amen.

In fact, when Jesus addressed the Diaspora Jews (who spoke Greek) he quoted from the Septuagint version of the scriptures.

So why does the Catholic Bible have 73 books, while the Protestant Bible has only 66 books? Some protestants believe that the Catholic Church added 7 books to the Bible at the Council of Trent in response to Luther’s Reformation, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In about 367 AD, St. Athanasius came up with a list of 73 books for the Bible that he believed to be divinely inspired. This list was finally approved by Pope Damasus I in 382 AD, and was formally approved by the Church Council of Rome in that same year. Later Councils at Hippo (393 AD) and Carthage (397 AD) ratified this list of 73 books. In 405 AD, Pope Innocent I wrote a letter to the Bishop of Toulouse reaffirming this canon of 73 books. In 419 AD, the Council of Carthage reaffirmed this list, which Pope Boniface agreed to. The Council of Trent, in 1546, in response to the Reformation removing 7 books from the canon (canon is a Greek word meaning “standard”), reaffirmed the original St. Athanasius list of 73 books. So what happened? How come the King James Bible only has 66 books?

Well, Martin Luther didn’t like 7 books of the Old Testament that disagreed with his personal view of theology, so he threw them out of his bible in the 16th Century. His reasoning was that the Jewish Council of Jamnia in 90 AD didn’t think they were canonical, so he didn’t either. The Jewish Council of Jamnia was a meeting of the remaining Jews from Palestine who survived the Roman persecution of Jerusalem in 70 AD. It seems that the Jews had never settled on an official canon of OT scripture before this. The Sadducees only believed in the first 5 books of the Bible written by Moses (the Pentateuch), while the Pharisees believed in 34 other books of the Old Testament as well. However, there were other Jews around from the Diaspora, or the dispersion of the Jews from the Babylonian captivity, who believed that another 7 books were also divinely inspired.

The Septuagint was a Greek translation by 70 translators of the Hebrew Word. The Septuagint includes the disputed 7 books that Protestants do not recognize as scriptural. Initially, Luther wanted to kick out some New Testament Books as well, including James, Hebrews, Jude, and Revelation. He actually said that he wanted to “throw Jimmy into the fire”, and that the book of James was “an epistle of straw.” What is strange is that Luther eventually accepted all 27 books of the New Testament that the Catholic Pope Damasus I had approved of in 382 AD, but didn’t accept his Old Testament list, preferring instead to agree with the Jews of 90 AD. Spiritual Warfare Advice from the Saints

Lorem Ipsum Dolor

Spring 2016

St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina "Jesus permits the spiritual combat as a purification, not as a punishment. The trial is not unto death but unto salvation." St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina "The Spirit of God is a spirit of peace. Even in the most serious faults He makes us feel a sorrow that is tranquil, humble, and confident. This is precisely because of His mercy. The spirit of the devil, instead, excites, exasperates, and makes us feel, in that very sorrow, anger against ourselves. We should, on the contrary, be charitable with ourselves first and foremost. Therefore if any thought agitates you, this agitation never comes from God, who gives you peace, being the spirit of peace, but from the devil. St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina May it please His Majesty that we fear Him whom we ought to fear, and understand that one venial sin can do us more harm than all hell together; for that is the truth. The evil spirits keep us in terror, because we expose ourselves to the assaults of terror by our attachments to honours, possessions, and pleasures. St. John Vianney The devil only tempts those souls that wish to abandon sin and those that are in a state of grace. The others belong to him; he has no need to tempt them. St. John Bosco The strategy of our adversary can be compared to the tactics of a commander intent upon seizing and plundering a position he desires. The leader of an army will encamp, explore the fortifications and defenses of the fortress, and attack at the weakest point. St. Ignatius of Loyola After you have made a decision that is pleasing to God, the devil may try to make you have second thoughts. Intensify your prayer time, meditation, and good deeds. For if satan’s temptations merely cause you to increase your efforts to grow in holiness, he’ll have an incentive to leave you alone. Saint Faustina Kowalska The evil spirits, because of their pride, anger, and envy, will attempt to turn your gaze away from God through either temptations or harassments. They seek to surround you with their temptations and harassments so that every thought and action you engage in might be in opposition to what the Lord desires for you. St. Padre Pio Do not listen or pay any attention to what the enemy suggests to you, telling you that God has rejected you, or that because of some hidden failure, God is punishing you and wants to chastise you until you eliminate those things from your soul. This is by no means true. St. Maximilian Kolbe How unhappy we are, my children, thus to be the sport of demons. They do whatever they please with us; they suggest to us evil speaking, calumny, hatred, vengeance; they even drive us so far as to put our neighbor to death.

St. Therese of Lisieux - Calm the tormenting anxieties of your heart, and banish from your imagination all those distressing thoughts and sentiments which are all suggested by satan in order to make you act badly. Source - http://www.catholicbible101.com/spiritualwarfare.htm#504073992

Pope Benedict XVI “No one wants to believe in evil, really, above all, not in an evil being, an evil spirit. Everyone wants to abolish the idea. To admit the existence of evil means a responsibility, and no one wants that responsibility. That is the opening through which the evil spirit crawls, stilling all suspicions, making everything seem normal and natural. This is the “thought,” the unwariness of the ordinary human being which amounts to a disinclination to believe in evil. And if you do not believe in evil, how can you believe in or ever know what good is?” 10
