A Letter From The President Dear Members, 2021 has gone by very quickly and we all have had a lot to deal this past year both personally and in business. As we wind down the year, I just wanted to say that it has been a pleasure to serve as the President of the Board of Directors and I believe your Board has accomplished a lot despite the tremendous obstacles faced.

Leo Chomiak Board of Directors President

We are very pleased that our Membership at Deering Bay continues to grow and that we have such great interest in joining the Club. This year we have added 88 Members to date going into December, one of the best years since the club’s inception. We are making a mark in our financial success and growing our new culture. The Board of Directors continues to look to making this club one of the best in the market.

We realize all that the Members have had to sacrifice during this past year with the summer closure and delays in completing projects. The challenges in the markets today with labor, supply chain issues, and inflation have created a need to embrace new strategies going into 2022. Our Clubhouse renovation projects have continued to run into a few challenges. We are still working on a delay in opening our new Restaurant/Bar due to a fire safety requirement regarding egress through the construction area. We believe we have resolved the issue and hope to re-open the space very soon. Although hard to believe, the 19th Hole is still in the Permitting process with the City of Coral Gables as well and we hope to be able to break ground by the end of the year or in January 2022. We are still working on the planning and re-design of the pool and pool deck to be constructed concurrently with the 19th Hole project. As I mentioned last month and in other communications, the Board of Directors has also approved the complete replacement of the Clubhouse and Main Entrance roofs due to age and wear. We will begin this process by January 2022 and the project should run about 5 months. The Board of Directors recently completed a review of the 2022 Annual Budget and we have addressed the rising cost of materials, increasing labor costs, and product availability issues due to the severe national procurement market conditions to try and minimize the impact as much as possible while improving our many services. We appreciate all of your patience while we get these projects done. The Fitness Center is expected to be completed by January as well as we have encountered some existing structural leakage which delayed the planned completion in December. That has now been corrected and we are moving forward with completing the Fitness Center. Our Annual Holiday Member Event is scheduled for Wednesday, December 8th this year. We look forward to another wonderful Holiday event this after the COVID challenges cancelled our event last year. Thank you all for your patience and understanding this year, and we are all looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming member events. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we all wish you and your families Happy Holidays and a joyous New Year in 2022. Leo Chomiak President of the Board of Directors

A Letter From The General Manager Dear Members, On behalf of the entire team here at Deering Bay, we want to wish all of you very Happy Holidays with your loved ones. 2021 has been a very difficult year for most of us. COVID is still out there and everyone is hoping that this year, as things loosen up, that we can all enjoy a better holiday season than in 2020 with our family and friends. The Annual Holiday Party is scheduled for Wednesday, December 8th. Please make your reservations with our team as soon as you can. This should be a great event to get reacquainted with your friends this year. Richard Mogensen General Manager gm@dbycc.com

Director of Food and Beverage Julio Canales has planned some fun dining events over the next couple of months. We have a DAOU Wine Dinner and a Caviar Tasting coming up in early December. Please make your reservations for these events early.

As we have been mentioning in our other update letters and notes, the delays in some of our projects continue to be challenging for the Club. Permits, inspections, material availability, and staffing issues are a mountain we are still climbing. The New Bar and Restaurant is still in progress as we are awaiting materials to finish the bar. We believe we have resolved the fire safety issues with the restaurant egress and that fix should be installed in the next week. The opening of the restaurant is now expected later in December. We will announce an opening date when we have it. The Fitness Center opening has been delayed until January due to leaks in the original foundation walls discovered during construction. That situation has been repaired and we are progressing with the completion of the Fitness Rooms. Fitness equipment will be installed in early January and we will get the facility set up shortly after. Due to a prior family commitment I will have to be away from Deering Bay for a month starting on Monday, December 6th. Mr. Fran Roach, a very qualified Troon General Manager will be managing the club for the month and into the first week in January while I am gone. Please contact Fran with anything you may need. On behalf of the staff, we thank you for your support during this past year and for being such supportive members of this great Club. We wish you all a wonderful Holiday Season and a very Happy New Year. Richard Mogensen General Manager

News From Golf Dear Members, As the holiday season continues to creep up on us, remember that the Golf Shop is always a great place to pick up a gift! There is no better time to do this than the Annual Holiday Party on December 8th. Come pick out some merchandise, pop a balloon, and walk out a winner!

Craig Corcoran Director of Golf c.corcoran@dbycc.com

Our golf tournaments are in full swing and we are looking forward to our first major of the year with our Men’s Member-Member tournament being held the first weekend of December. We also have our Men’s President’s Cup in progress, second MGA event, and a couple interclubs scheduled for December.

Our WGA continues to get stronger and I would like to congratulate and thank our five ladies that will be representing the WGA committee. Susan Elliott – President; Shari Spector – Vice President; Karen Baron – Treasurer; Eileen Alvo – Secretary; Geraldine Blakely – Events Coordinator. This committee will be the voice of the WGA and will continue making our ladies program a success. If you have any questions please reach out to myself or a member of the committee. We continue to welcome back our members to Deering Bay! In the lead-up to the season we also welcome a number of new employees so please stop in and say hi to the new faces on our staff. As we getting busier into the season, we will be asking our members to ride two in a cart, however not mandatory; doing this will help increase the number of carts available throughout the day. Thank you and Happy Holidays, Craig Corcoran Director of Golf

News From The Golf Course Hello Everyone, After a cloudy and rain-filled November the golf course is finally getting some long awaited sunshine. The course held up well considering the amount of successive cloudy days we did have. That being said, we still are very wet and I would ask to please avoid driving over any low-drain basin areas as many are still completely saturated. We are still pumping continuously from holes 6, 8, 9, and the driving range due to the 8 inches of rain we have received this November. Daniel Stover Director of Golf Course Maintenance d.stover@dbycc.com

After a long wait, our pine straw is finally going to be delivered to us and spread on December 6th. The long wait was due to heavy rains that happened in upstate Florida and Georgia earlier this year. Harvesting pine straw during this period was impossible and it held back production for several weeks. The lack of production during this time set back all scheduled deliveries for the remainder of the year. Our Thor Guard lightning detection system has been installed and is up and running. The horns are working properly and you will hear one long 15 second horn blast to seek shelter, and three 5 second blasts for an all clear signal. The maintenance building is now the main hub with holes 3, 5, and 14 all having new repeater units. The pool will be getting a new unit as well as soon as the parts arrive. Along with the horn blasts there will soon be an automated message to all carts if inclement weather does approach. I have contacted EZGO technical support for assistance to get this process started so hopefully this will not take a long time to implement. Additionally, the mangroves on holes 2, 5, and 9 have been trimmed and we are now trimming mangroves that are encroaching upon cart paths. The work should be completed no later than the end of next week along with some additional trimming of select trees adjacent to greens. I hope you have a good Thanksgiving and If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me directly at d.stover@dbycc.com. Daniel Stover Director of Grounds

News From Food & Beverage Happy Holidays! We are excited for the opportunity to serve you and celebrate this special time of the year with you. Food and Beverage is a dynamic department that requires a team effort to be successful. We are working on building a team and creating a culture of excellence. News From Tennis Happy Holidays from the Deering Bay tennis staff! As of this writing we are just about to complete our Ladies Fall Tennis Program, where we had a record number of six teams competing in the USTA league and South Florida Womens Doubles Tennis League. This is the most teams that have ever played out of Deering Bay, which by the way is more than any other private country club in the county. Our women’s 55 & over 6.0 team is currently tied for first place, with one remaining match. Our 55 & over 7.0 senior Pedro Leon team is going to finish in 2nd place. The ladies 40 & over Director of Tennis 3.0 USTA has improved tremendously, with so many new p.leon@dbycc.com members joining this team. They will finish in 4th place, but gave the team that won the league their only loss! This team will have a great chance to win the spring league and compete for the county championship in May. The most improved team for us this year is the 40 & over 3.5 USTA team, where we admittedly had a couple of poor years, finishing at the bottom. The new format for this league is now one singles position and 3 doubles positions. We are currently in 5th place out of 12 teams. This is all due to a few added new members to our roster, who have given us that “one extra good player” we needed in order to compete with the top teams. Look for this team to be TOP 2 come Spring league! We round out our tennis league, with what is considered inter club play (SFWDTL). We have an Alpha 2 team (we WON the Alpha Beta division in 2020 along with the sportsmanship award), and got moved up to this tough level, Alpha 2. We are right now with a record of 1-2, with 8 more matches that run now through April. This team is new to this division, but already showing they can compete. Our new addition this year is the B1 team, which we added because we have so many women (over 40 players) who are wanting to compete and play matches. It was our decision to add another team to the SFWDTL with the purpose of getting all our ladies lots of match play experience. We can brag a little here and say we are 4-0 and in FIRST PLACE in this league of 8 teams. We play a home and away schedule, with 14 matches total, and a season that runs through May. Besides having 6 teams that are all proving to be winners, we have the nicest, friendliest, best sportswomen in the city! Every team loves to come play at our beautiful facility, where we can also boast about having the best courts in town.

15

News From Tennis Our court maintenance man is Jorge, we took him from the kitchen staff a couple of years ago and he has proven to be a hard worker, and keeps our courts in great shape. Some of you have noticed the courts are in need of clay, which as of this writing we have ordered the clay and will begin the maintenance of adding it to all 7 courts. We do this twice a year at least, but have to do it around hurricane season, and now we have to be able to do it around all the matches that the ladies are having. It is a full week of work to get this done but will still allow for play on enough courts so everyone is happy. More good news, we are going to attempt to add an 18 & over mens 3.5 team to the USTA league come January. This will be a first as far as a mens team goes in at least 20 years. We believe since COVID, the flood gates have opened up as far as men playing and taking lessons at the club, along with new members, and it looks like we can try to field a team. This will be a league that plays on Thursday nights. If you fit the age requirement of over 18 years old, you are a man, and you play tennis like a 3.5 player, please reach out to us in the Pro Shop and get your name on this team! We would love to have you. Pedro, Cheryl, and Randolph are also very busy every weekday with teaching kids privately, semi-privately, and in group settings based on ability. Reach out to any of us to get involved in our programming. Happy Holidays, Pedro Leon, Director of Tennis (786) 287-2660 Cheryl Porter, Head Tennis Pro (305) 772-8342 Randolph Seivane, Teaching Pro (786) 955-4846

News From Fitness

Dear Members, I wanted to start by wishing you all a very happy holiday season. I hope all of you get to enjoy these next few weeks with your loved ones.

Renny Ramirez Director of Fitness fitnesscenter@dbycc.com

With the winter weather settling in Miami, it is one of my favorite times of the year to exercise outside in the fresh air. Whether you are taking a walk, doing yard work, or decorating your house, there is no better feeling than a great outdoor workout. On cooler days, stop by the Deering Bay pool for a water aerobics class or aquacycling class in our heated pool!

If staying inside the comfort of your own home sounds better to you, we would love to have you join one of our many weekly Zoom fitness classes. Zoom fitness classes are a great way to include the whole family in an exhilarating workout! Once again, I hope you all have an amazing holiday season and I am looking forward to seeing many of you back in the Clubhouse soon! Renny Ramirez Director of Fitness
