A Letter From The President
Dear Deering Bay Members,
2023 is off to a great start here at the Club. We are continuing to see great progress out at the 19th Hole, and in February we will see the installation of mechanical units, light fixtures and fans, counter tops, and other kitchen equipment. Construction of the Pickle Ball Courts started on Monday, January 23rd with an anticipated timeline of about 8 weeks.
Leo Chomiak President Board of DirectorsProcurement of furniture and materials for the Phase II Renovation is about 80% complete and we are currently acquiring lead times that range from four to twelve weeks. Renovation areas have been zoned to cause the
least amount of service interruption, and we will keep the membership updated as these projects progress.
The Club finished the year with $11.7M in total revenues which exceeded prior year revenues by $2.9M.
The Club finished the year with a Net Operating Income of $404K which is the strongest financial result Deering Bay has experienced. The first few months of the new year are busy with many events, and we anticipate strong financial results in the first quarter of 2023.
The Chairs and Co-Chairs of our various committees have been set for 2023. Members selected to be on committees will be notified this week. Thank you to everyone who applied to join one of Deering Bay’s committees. We truly appreciate your commitment to the Club.

News From The Golf Course
Dear Deering Bay Members,
Daniel Stover Director of Grounds d.stover@dbycc.comAs we are in the middle of our golf season here at Deering Bay we are also peaking in the amount of daily golf rounds. This means divots on tees and fairways and ball marks on greens are also becoming more plentiful and multiple members of the golf maintenance team are deployed several times per week to help with both duties. While this is a normal practice for any maintenance crew, the quantity of each on the course is becoming a bit more than we can keep up with.
As golfers, it would help our maintenance team and your fellow golfers greatly if you made sure to fill your divots and repair your ball marks. I invite you to read these quick tutorials from the USGA.
Divots: When using divot mix, it is important to avoid over or under filling divots. Under filling a divot will result in a depression that affects golf ball lie. On the other hand, overfilled divots will damage mowing equipment and create poor playing conditions. To properly fill a divot, bend over and directly place divot mix in each divot, making sure the divot mix does not spill onto undamaged turf. Add divot mix until it is even with the base of the adjacent turf. Finally, just as with replacing divots, use your foot to compact and level the divot mix.
Ball Marks: Insert the ball mark repair tool behind the ball mark and gently pull the top of the tool toward the center. Continue working around the ball mark, pulling the surrounding turf in toward the center of the indentation. Avoid using a lifting or twisting motion because this can damage turf roots. Once you have finished pulling turf in toward the center, gently tamp the area down with your putter to create a smooth, firm surface.
Together we can continue to create better conditions here at the Bay for all of us. I hope you are enjoying your experience so far this season. As always feel free to reach me at d.stover@dbycc.com.
Thank you, Dan
News From Tennis
Dear Deering Bay Members,
As we expected we have begun the New Year with many challenges in front of us. We are just two months into it and have already made significant accomplishments. On the domestic scene we are making our DBYCC tennis teams presence felt! The USTA ladies and SFWDL teams have been giving their best and have won most of their 2023 season matches.
We would like to give special congratulations to our USTA 6.5 senior combo league team who after dominating in Miami participated in the Sectional competition at Orlando and made all the way to the semifinals. But they are not the only one supporting the tennis program; the USTA Men’s team has been involved in very competitive matches and we are very excited about the future of them, the 3.5 USTA men’s team won their first match vs Royal Palm Tennis club and is set up for 4 more matches during this month.
Pedro Leon Director of Tennis p.leon@dbycc.comIn addition to all these great news we also offered an adult round robin on Saturday morning the 28th where we had a lot of fun; Juliana Neves finished in first place and Jeff Fenton was the runner up. We are very happy to say that many members are showing up for clinics and lessons and we also have great turn out on the courts during the weekends.
We are now looking forward to our future events. On February all clinics, USTA and SFWDL matches are continued as scheduled, and on Saturday, February 25th from 9 to 11am we are hosting the Valentine’s Doubles & Mixed Troubles special event where our members will have a morning of tennis, food, love and more; remember to RSVP to this event.
We would like to remind you some familiar programs that we offer:
Ladies’ clinics Tuesday & Thursday 9:30 to 11:00am
Men’s clinic Wednesday 7:00 to 8:00pm
Kid’s group lesson Monday from 4 to 5pm and Wednesday from 4:30 to 5:30pm Private lesson every day
Please let us know if you would like to participate! Programs must be signed up in advance.
We would also like to remind you that we offer a ball machine at no cost; it is located by the tennis shop back glass door facing the swimming pool; you must be 16 years old or over otherwise a member adult presence is required. You may use it with reservation Tuesday through Friday 8:30 to 4:00pm and Saturday & Sunday 11:30am to 4:00pm. For reservations, please email to p.leon@dbycc. com or c.porter@dbycc.com
This month in our effort to continue offering to the members the best tennis courts in town we are once again depositing clay. We thank everyone for your patience and understanding as our staff work diligently to restore the courts to the level of excellence you are used to. Most important of all, we would like to remind everyone to wear the proper attire and tennis shoes, also that reservations should be made no earlier than two days in advance.
Sincerely,
The Tennis Pro Shop FamilyNews From Fitness
Dear Deering Bay Members,
I am extremely pleased with the level of acceptance, encouragement, and support the members have instilled in the Fitness Department. The month of February will only surpass the bar and standards we have set for the fitness program.
Stephen Tilton Director of Fitness fitnesscenter@dbycc.comThe new classes are next level in the fitness industry and always creating a challenge to keep members engaged and breaking through personal plateaus.
Our goal was to use the classes to establish a better sense of inclusion and community and we have crushed that expectation. The educationbased classes are led by certified, diverse, and relatable instructors, and continuous content and feature enhancements give members fresh ways to enjoy their wellbeing journey. From recipes to educational classes, our events and seminars will keep members engaged on their journey toward eating healthier. And yes, the recipes are delicious!
Calm the mind, bring awareness to the present moment, and build resilience into your every day through the meditation and movement classes. Mindfulness is the key to mental wellbeing and living a healthier life. With your new access to meditation, yoga, and stress reduction, our classes can improve your mood and mindset. Our high-quality in-house production studio creates and refreshes classes continuously to meet members’ growing needs.
Integrated and custom goal-based programs engage the whole person and population in fitness. The connection between food and wellbeing goes much deeper than simply eating more fruits and vegetables and cutting out processed foods. For members, understanding the full scope of nutrition’s impact on wellbeing may be key to improving your health and productivity. Let’s continue to establish a level of excellence by setting the tone for a progressive, dedicated and determined culture here at Deering Bay.
Remember each member brings value, creativity, and respect to the program. Please continue to enhance each other’s lives through fitness, mindfulness, and nutritional guidance! Looking forward to continuing my efforts to being that game changer for each member’s journey.
Happy February!
Stephen
