A M E S S A G E FROM THE PRESIDENT
A
fter our seasonal slow period your Club is getting back in full swing. The level of activity is ramping up considerably and will continue to gather steam as we head into October. Our golf course is lovely and Jimmy Germana says the best is yet to come. We have had dozens and dozens of guest players taking advantage of our summer reciprocal programs and the rave reviews of our course, our Golf staff, and the quality of the lunch experience after the round was indeed gratifying.
Larry Woerner President
Golf rounds in August were up over 25% compared to August of 2017 and September should show a similar increase. By the time you are reading this you will hopefully have seen our new fleet of golf carts – truly state of the art with Lithium batteries and a more user-friendly GPS screen. Dave Ragan, working with our Troon colleagues, has been able to get this improved fleet at essentially the same cost as our current contract. I hope you are as impressed as I am with our new golf carts! Annually, we hold at least two Open Forum meetings with our membership. The next Open Forum will be held on Wednesday, October 10 and will start promptly at 6pm. The meeting is scheduled to run for 90 minutes until 7:30pm. The topics that will be addressed include the following: • Lee Andrea, our new General Manager, will provide an overview of the Club’s operations and provide his initial impressions and priorities after being with us for a bit over two months; • Rob Sperber, our Treasurer, will provide an update on the Club’s finances and the prospects for the balance of the year; • I will provide an update on our Capital Improvement Plan – including reaffirming the timeline for conducting Phase 1 of our project plan; • I will also provide an update on the Board’s view of the Troon relationship after one year of our contract. I will provide both a financial overview of Troon’s benefits vs costs as well as other comments on how the Troon relationship is working. Ricardo Catarino, the Troon regional Vice President will be present to help answer any questions; • At the end we will save some time for questions from the audience. I encourage all of you to put this October 10 Town Hall on your calendar – and don’t forget to make dinner reservations for after the meeting! Finally, we are entering the period of voting for the 2019 Board of Directors. As you will have seen in recent communications, we will be voting for two open positions on the Board (one of which is mine as I will be term-limited off the Board). As I am completing my sixth year on the Board, I encourage our eligible Equity members to consider running for one of these two open spots. Within our membership, I know we have a wealth of very experienced, competent people who are passionate about Deering Bay. We are still accepting applications for a couple more days and I encourage you to seriously consider putting your name forward. I wish you all a great fall season as our temperatures begin to moderate – and I look forward to seeing you at our fantastic oasis by the bay.
Best Regards,
Larry Woerner President lwoerner54@yahoo.com

A N O T E FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER/COO
H
ope you all had an enjoyable summer and are looking forward to an exciting fall season.
Lee Andrea General Manager/ COO
It’s amazing how the year is going by so quickly! Not only is summer over, but it’s already been six weeks since I began my assignment as general manager at Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club. My experience thus far has been extremely rewarding and memorable, and it is a distinct pleasure serving all our members and their guests within this delightful environment. Thanks to all of you who have taken the time to stop by to introduce yourselves, and offer such heartfelt words of welcome. In addition to serving our members with the highest degree of exceptionalism, one of my foremost priorities is to ensure that our employees within all operational areas are continually provided with opportunities to advance both personally and professionally. In this continuing effort, it is my pleasure to advise that various Troon corporate resources, including food and beverage, retail operations and fitness operations, have been instrumental in providing training and guidance for our operations here at the Club. This trend will continue as we seek to maintain the highest levels of operational efficiency. With the hurricane season underway, it is important that we are all aware of the dangers of storms, and must do all we can to ensure that we stay out of harm’s way during this act of nature. Since I arrived at the Club, we have experienced a few instances of inclement weather. In all instances, we were well-prepared for this act of nature, and as the season progresses, please kindly ensure that you adhere to all established protocol, including taking cover and coming back to the clubhouse when sirens are activated indicating a storm is imminent. As a friendly reminder, we always look forward to welcoming new members. You, our current members, are our biggest and most reliable referral resources. In light of this, we kindly request your assistance in referring potential members to the Club by sharing your experiences with them. One of the primary elements of our mission is to ensure that we always create and ensure memorable experiences for our patrons, and

provide unparalleled customer service to our members. It is always a pleasure for our Membership Director John Gale to welcome and follow up with your referrals, with the hope of successfully recruiting them to become valuable members of our Club, just as you all are. If I have not had the pleasure of meeting you, I kindly request that you please stop by the Club to say hello. I look forward to maintaining the culture of excellence and resilience that has part of the Club’s tradition, and will always serve you with integrity, accountability and efficiency. Also, it is my pleasure to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have by contacting me at l.andrea@ dbycc.com or 678.858.9682. From me to you, it is always a pleasure serving you. Thank you for your continued patronage, and I look forward to welcoming you to the Club again soon.
Cheers,
Lee Andrea General Manager/COO Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club

reetings, Deering Bay Family! Fall is officially here and so is our “season.” What better place to be than Deering Bay to enjoy cooling temperatures and bay breezes. Each department at your club is working closely together to enhance the membership experience. We strive to be the best in service for our members and for our members to have fun at the club. October is the launch of several social events that all can enjoy. We will be celebrating Oktoberfest on October 17th. There will be music, themed food, and of course Oktoberfest style beer! Mark your calendars for this fun event. Please invite the members of the community to this event and also meet our new members who will be attending as well. I also want to take this opportunity to introduce the newest member of our team, Ana Lopez. She is our new Communications Manager. She has hit the ground running and will be in charge of enhancing our social media footprint.
A special congratulations goes to…
Chris Crystal The winner of the Membership Ambassador Raffle for October is Mr. Crystal, thank you for your referral. Please see Daniella or myself in the Membership Office to receive your prize of a Brunch for two with mimosas or a Golf Foursome. See you around the Bay!

few months ago a couple of members and I started the DBYCC Car Club right in the Clubhouse parking lot. I know a few of you were away for the summer, but we ended up having around 20 cars and a BMW Nine-T motorcycle showing up.
Besides passion for cars, the members shared other commonalities too, we are like a Jensen Interceptor (you know, British car, American drivetrain, and Italian design).

CHEF’S C O R N E R
Little Gem & Salmon Salad
I
wanted to share this process more than a recipe because there are endless variations that make for a great warm weather meal.
John Gray Executive Chef
When i was a kid it was: red leaf lettuce, Paul Newman’s Italian dressing heated up, canned albacore tuna, chopped onions & tomatoes, and a big stainless steel mixing bowl. That was our summer dinner. I still love to make that at home the way my dad did. Although nowadays, I use a nice variety of mixed greens and I make my own dressing using sherry vinegar and a nice extra virgin olive oil. I’ve probably even roasted some fresh fish to flake in, instead of dad’s canned tuna! I’m sure by now you can begin to envision all the different ingredients you can use in this simple food equation. So here’s another technique that we actually had as a special last week. The perfect warm weather dinner! in • • •
gredients Little gem or hearts of romaine lettuce grilled salmon Roquefort dressing • tomatoes • onions • big mixing bowl
