A Letter From The President Dear Members, 2021 has been a year of challenges and changes at Deering Bay. I am confident that the Club is poised to deliver an elevated experience to our members in 2022. This is our mission statement and guiding principle for everything we do. The Board of Directors and I thank you for your patience and understanding over the past few weeks as we dealt with an outbreak of COVID-19 cases among our associates. Our Leo Chomiak foremost concern is the health and safety of our associates, President members, and their guests. As we look to put the pandemic Board of Directors behind us, we ask that you please wear a mask at all times in the Clubhouse unless actively eating or drinking, and that you do not come to the Club if you are feeling sick or have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 10 days. We are eagerly awaiting the final inspections of the new Bar and Restaurant as well as the DBKT Clubhouse, which should take place shortly. These areas will be opened soon thereafter. The construction team is putting the final touches on the Fitness Center and we are hoping to open the space by mid-January. As for the 19th Hole, we are still in the permitting process with Coral Gables, and we will keep you informed of any updates. While the Club undergoes some substantial changes, we have also made some smaller improvements throughout the Clubhouse. For our members that utilize the Pool, we have received new towels, which can be found in both the Men’s and Women’s restrooms by the Pool. We have also replaced the carpeting in the Ladies Locker Room as of the last week of December. I would like to formally welcome our two new members of the Board of Directors, Dr. Leonardo Mendoza and Mr. Randy Millian. Both Dr. Mendoza and Mr. Millian bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Board of Directors, and we are all looking forward to working with them. If you are an Equity Member interested in serving on one of Club’s committees, please keep an eye on your email for the 2022 Deering Bay Committee Request Form that will be distributed shortly. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to wish you and your families a joyous New Year filled with good health and happiness! Leo Chomiak President

A Letter From The General Manager Dear Members, I wanted to start off by thanking you all for your warm welcome you have provided to me. We have such an amazing property that is getting better by the day.

Fran Roach PGA, CMAA Interim General Manager gm@dbycc.com

I am happy to say that the majority of our associates that contracted COVID-19 have fully recovered, and all of our team members are required to test negative prior to returning to Deering Bay. We are in the process of contacting a company that can provide weekly on-site testing not only for our associates but for our membership as well. I will keep you posted on these details shortly. That being said, we ask that everyone please wear a mask inside the Clubhouse unless actively eating or drinking.

As many of us try to leave 2021 in the past, I believe 2022 will be a year that Deering Bay truly shines. With a new Bar and Restaurant, the new DBKT Clubhouse, a new Fitness Center, and many new members, everyone on the Deering Bay team is committed to providing our membership with top-tier services in a top-tier environment. We are currently working on creating exciting new menus for the new Bar and Restaurant thanks to Executive Chef Luis Nolasco, Food and Beverage Director Julio Canales, and the Troon corporate culinary team, and we will share their creations with you soon. One of the greatest challenges brought on by the pandemic has been finding quality associates. We are working diligently to hire for our Food and Beverage, Tennis, and Golf Course Maintenance departments. While we have posted job listings in all relevant places, we would happily welcome any referrals from our members. I am very excited to be a part of the new chapter that Deering Bay is starting, and I look forward to getting to know many of you in this new year. Fran Roach PGA, CMAA Interim General Manager

News From Golf Dear Members, I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season with friends and family! I appreciate everyone’s warm support and thoughtfulness to all of us here at Deering Bay. Thank you! The Member-Member Tournament at the beginning of December was a success. Congratulations to Rudy Stern and Richard Pollack for taking home first place, winning by one stroke. Craig Corcoran Director of Golf c.corcoran@dbycc.com

We are looking forward to some Junior Golf excitement starting this month. Deering Bay’s Assistant Golf Professional Jonathan Behee has spearheaded a Junior’s Winter Program starting the second week of January. Jonathan and Derek have put together a curriculum to get the juniors engaged to learn in a fun and structured environment. We have limited space for the juniors so please sign up as early as possible by calling the Golf Shop at (305) 256-2500 or email golfshop@dbycc.com. We continue to see success and improvement in the WGA program thanks to our Golf Deparment team members and our five ladies on the committee. We are looking forward to having our 9-hole ladies get involved and continue to see this program progress. Thank you to everyone who came out to the holiday gift exchange as this was a great way to kick off the holiday season. We are now looking forward to our first themed event ‘Frozen’ on January 6th hosted by Susan Elliott. Gentlemen, be on the lookout for the sign-up information for the Men’s Member-Guest Invitational (Feb. 24-26). This is the pinnacle event of the year and we want to get as many men involved in the event as possible. Thank you, Craig Corcoran Director of Golf

News From The Golf Course Hello Everyone, As many of you might have heard, our lightning detection system sounded December 21st and concluded a long string of dry weather. Not including this storm, the total rainfall over the past month has been less than 0.5” and filled with abundant sunshine.

Daniel Stover Director of Golf Course Maintenance d.stover@dbycc.com

Since we have been in such a dry weather pattern we can see how wet the course does stay for extended periods of time. Over the last three weeks, we have only had to add supplemental water on our greens and on tees and fairways on holes 5, 6, 7, and the left approach on 14.

Holes that have needed no supplemental irrigation at all since Thanksgiving are still remaining soft and wet. To help prevent this issue in the future, we are going to implement procedures next summer I have used successfully at both Doral and Ocean Reef to create a firmer surface for next golf season. In the meantime, we are scouting daily to irrigate only where needed. Another issue that showed itself more in December were the sand dams that were removed during the summer on greens 1, 4, 13, 15, 16, and 17. These newly sodded areas on the green are extremely bumpy. The worst of these areas can be found on greens 1 and 17. The high spots are constantly being scalped during our regular mowing practices. You may notice that we are hand aerifying these spots weekly. Aerifying these spots removes small cores which we then remove from the surface of the green and then roll the areas down. Over time, this practice will lower the area enough so it’s not being constantly scalped. Great care will be taken during next summer’s closures to not replicate the problem on the remaining greens. I hope you have a great rest of the holiday season and if you have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to contact me directly at d.stover@dbycc.com. Dan Stover Director of Golf Course Maintenance

Julio Canales Director of Food & Beverage j.canales@dbycc.com

News From Tennis Dear Members, As 2021 comes to an end, we would like to thank all the tennis members for their continued support of the Tennis Program and congratulate all the ladies teams in their efforts and accomplishments.

Pedro Leon Director of Tennis p.leon@dbycc.com

We hope this New Year finds you all in good health and spirits. This year promises to be eventful and fun-filled. As everyone returns from vacation we are getting more and more reservations, and we look forward to seeing everyone on the courts.

This year we are very excited because for the first time in a long time, we were able to put together a 3.5 USTA Men’s team. This is a great accomplishment for the Club and we wish for a great season for all the team members. Holding true to tradition, our ladies are on the path to leadership and victory. All of our USTA teams are getting ready for the new season, and the South Florida Alpha-B and B-1 are halfway through their season and continue to hold very competitive matches. Last year we had great success in all of the regular clinics, lessons and events. Our hope is that this year they will be even better. We would like to encourage our membership to participate in the Tennis Program and to contact us for more information. Once again one of our priorities this year is to keep the courts in the best conditions to make our members proud; to be able to accomplish this goal you will see us frequently depositing clay on them. Most important of all, we would like to remind everyone to follow the CDC guidelines as well as our Club’s tennis rules. Reservations should be made no earlier than two days in advance before 3:30 pm. After 3:30 pm and on Mondays, all walk-Ins are welcomed. On behalf of the Tennis Department, have a good and safe January! Pedro Leon Director of Tennis

News From Fitness

Dear Members, I wanted to start by thanking all of our wonderful fitness instructors for a great 2021. Despite the pandemic and the renovation of the Fitness Center, our instructors have continued to provide great classes via Zoom, in the Tennis Pro Shop, and at the Pool. Renny Ramirez Director of Fitness fitnesscenter@dbycc.com

I also wanted to thank all of the members that train with me. I have seen the hard work you all put in every day and I am proud to be your guide. Here’s to an even better year of health and wellness in 2022!

No matter what your 2022 New Year’s Resolution is for your health, myself, along with all of our other instructors, would love to help you work towards your goals. I am practically counting down the days until we are all moved into the new Fitness Center, and I cannot wait to see all of you in there as well! Happy New Year everyone, cheers to 2022!
