A M E S S A G E FROM THE PRESIDENT

A

s we continue to move quickly through the year, our staff is working tirelessly to finalize the schedule and plans for the upcoming season. In mid-July, we closed for our annual “Summer Refresh” project to maintain the aesthetics, refinement, and structure of our Club. Several improvements were made that include: re-paint and touch-up of several walls, continued work on our Arnold Palmer Championship Golf Course, staff training and development and the creation of new dining menus for lunch, lounge and dinner service.

Larry Woerner President

Summer will soon come to an end and as August brings us peak heat conditions, be sure to join us for our upcoming End of Summer Pool Party & Cook Out on Saturday, August 11th! Come and enjoy games, food, and music as we savor the last few days of the summer sun. As mentioned previously, we have contracted a roofing company to put a new roof on the Clubhouse. They are in the final stages of obtaining the permits, and we are jointly evaluating the best time to do the construction to minimize disruption for events that have already been scheduled. The Hurricane Irma assessment fund has adequate resources to fully pay for the new roof – however, we also continue to work with our adjuster and Citizen’s Insurance to determine the amount of any insurance claim that we may be entitled to. Any insurance proceeds will be returned to the Capital Reserve fund once received. We have been fortunate to have Tina Policarpo step in over the last few weeks as our Interim General Manager. Tina will be returning to her home club up north in early August. She has been fabulous to work with; we thank her for her contributions here and wish her all the best in the future. Lee Andrea will be starting as our new General Manager on August 6th. Lee is a seasoned professional and over the last three years has been serving as the General Manager at Pinetop Country Club in Pinetop, Arizona. During Lee’s tenure, Pinetop has thrived, significantly improving member satisfaction as well as obtaining substantially better financial results. We look forward to welcoming Lee to Deering Bay, and I encourage all of you to stop in and introduce yourselves once he is on board. I hope those spending their summer in Miami are taking full advantage of our Club and I look forward to welcoming back those members who have spent time in cooler climates during these months. Continue to enjoy your summer, and I look forward to seeing all at the Club.

Best Regards,

Larry Woerner President lwoerner54@yahoo.com

Lee Andrea General Manager On behalf of the Board and the Club’s staff, it is a pleasure to introduce and welcome a new addition to the senior management team. Effective August 6, 2018, Lee Andrea will assume the role of General Manager. Lee will be tasked with overseeing the Club’s day-to-day operations and working collaboratively with the Club’s staff, Board and member committees to advance the Club’s vision and mission across all operational areas. After attending Florida Southern College on a baseball scholarship and graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Lee played professional baseball with the Milwaukee Brewers in the position of an outfielder. However, after a career-ending injury, Lee transitioned to the golf industry. Lee’s career features serving in several critical management roles, including regional food and beverage director and general manager for clubs nationwide. One of the highlights of Lee’s career has been serving as director of operations, overseeing 21 golf and country clubs in the northeast and southeast region, and managing over 1,100 employees. Lee joined the Troon local club management team in 2015. His initial assignment with Troon has been serving as general manager at Pinetop Country Club in Pinetop, Arizona, a seasonal private club within the Troon Prive portfolio. During his off-season at Pinetop, Lee has also served as interim/transitional general manager at several newly acquired Troon clubs. The Pinetop assignment immediately precedes Lee’s position with our Club. With a golf industry career spanning over 20 years, Lee is an experienced industry professional with expertise in all aspects of golf and country club operations and has successfully championed and co-facilitated operational initiatives throughout his tenure within the industry. Lee has also successfully pioneered and presented operational efficiencies, concepts and proposals across all organizational levels, and has subsequently integrated new supporting policies and procedures into existing business models. Lee’s first official contribution to our monthly newsletter will be in the September edition. His background, experience, and expertise will undoubtedly be an asset to our Club. Please join us in welcoming Lee upon his arrival.

tropical madness art exhibition

NOW OPEN in the crystal room Over the summer we will have the pleasure of “Tropical Madness,” a show of original art. This is generously lent to DBYCC by the Tropical Botanical Artists, a Miami-based artists collective whose members have delighted us with several exhibitions over the last few years. The show features many flowers and plants you will recognize, each interpreted from an artist’s point of view. Be sure to come to the Crystal Room to enjoy this show!
