A M E S S A G E FROM THE PRESIDENT

A

s we head full steam into these summer months and everyone starts to go on their many adventures, we say to those leaving us we hope you have safe travels and great stories to tell when you get back! For those who are staying to enjoy the Club, there will be no shortage of activities and events to keep you busy the next few months! Fun events like our: Murder Mystery Dinner, 2nd Annual Parent-Child Golf Tournament, Specialty Themed Dinners and much more! Please check your Summer Guide for a full list of events and dates, and check your Deering Bay app regularly so you can plan accordingly with the most up to date information.

Larry Woerner President

Our yearly course maintenance has begun and will continue through the beginning of August which will also include an aerification of the course. The Clubhouse will also have some maintenance done in the form of deep cleanings and used for staff training so please be aware of any modified opening and closing times below. We continually commit to these activities so we can continue to bring you a premier club experience. I would like to personally congratulate Dave Ragan III and his entire staff for a great golf season; one of our best! We saw record attendance and some new fresh faces on the links. Also, let’s not forget about the fabulous shape our course is in! Jimmy Germana and his team are doing such a great job, and appreciative is an understatement as to how I feel. Even after what seemed to be a disastrous hurricane season, Jimmy and his team worked around the clock to restore the course to its original pristine condition. Speaking of the hurricane, we have hired a roofing company to replace our existing roof and repair some water damage from Hurricane Irma. We hope to get this project started quite soon. Once the repairs begin, we will be communicating with you an estimated time of completion. As hopefully everyone knows, the Board approved the voting process for a proposed Capital Assessment. Ballots were sent out on Thursday, May 24th and are available in the Front Office for those who would like to vote in person. This vote is crucial to the future of our Club so I highly encourage all our eligible equity members to vote as soon as possible. Once approved, we will continue with our process on parking with membership to finalize the design features of our Capital Improvements Plan. Thank you to those who have provided their feedback on the Club’s interactive website, and if you have not had the opportunity to do so, please feel free to share your comments with me, lwoerner@yahoo.com or Karen, k.harmon@dbycc.com. We look forward to your input.

Best Regards,

Larry Woerner President lwoerner54@yahoo.com

A N O T E FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER/COO

A

s spring rolls into summer and the temperatures continue to rise, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for another season here at Deering Bay. The Club has seen a tremendous increase in tournament participants and dining/social events. The staff has continued to surpass my expectations and I can only hope they have done the same with yours as well. This month also marks one full year since we began the transition process with Troon. A year that has brought us exceptional training to our staff, new benefits to the membership and a wide array of resources for the betterment of the Club. I genuinely look forward to what is yet to come.

Karen Harmon General Manager/ COO

If you’re leaving us for the summer or just spending a day at the Club, tag us on your social media posts. Please use the official DBYCC handles: @dbycc (Facebook) and @deeringbay (Instagram) or use the #dbycc hashtag to stay connected to your Deering Bay family. We would love to have the opportunity to share your moments and showcase to the members and potential members what everyone is up to this summer and yearround. Also, if you haven’t already, follow us (we follow back) to stay up-to-date with special events, Club updates and so much more! June brings us the beginning of hurricane season, so as Florida residents we know how to be safe and prepared. I ask that all members monitor the news and radio on a daily basis. As many of us know, the weather in South Florida tends to be a bit unpredictable at times. I would like to ensure that everyone is safe and aware if a storm is to come our way and an evacuation is issued. Rest assured that the Club has begun the preparation process if an emergency closure is needed. Last month, on Saturday, May 5th I sent out an email requesting your participation in our annual Membership Satisfaction Survey. As the responses continue to trickle in, I am kindly asking, if you have not already done so, to please complete the survey no later than Tuesday, June 5th. Please note that your participation in the study is voluntary and anonymous. You may decline to answer any question and you have the right to withdraw from participation at any time. However, every answer counts in bettering the Club and we encourage your participation. By now all the members who are eligible to vote should have received their Ballots through the mail for the Capital Assessment. Your vote is strongly encouraged as it is crucial to the future of your Club. Please be aware that although only equity members’ are allowed to vote, we still want to hear feedback from the entire membership. All renderings are still available on the member side of the Club’s website and in the Front Office. Towards the bottom of the page, you will find a tab that gives you the opportunity to express your thoughts or please feel free to share them directly with a Board member or me. Once there is an approval (positive thinking) we will showcase the final renderings by early fall. For those who have little ones, our Summer Camp & Golf Workshops commence in ten days! Make sure to sign-up today while there’s still open availability. I hope everyone has a great and safe summer. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, remember, my door is always open.

All the best,

Karen Harmon General Manager/CCO k.harmon@dbycc.com

CONGRATULATIONS!

GOLF R E C A P

I

t is the end of another season at Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club, and I must report to you that the improvements we have made on the golf course and the events we conducted made me very proud to be your Head Golf Professional. The golf course was gorgeous; with the additional landscaping in our retention areas and our off-course areas, the course is second to none in beauty and extremely challenging to play. Showcased by our recent member-guest tournament’s, club championships, member events and guest play validates my appraisal. A number of this year’s participants had not played in a signature Deering Bay event in several years. Many of the guests were visiting our paradise for the first time. Guest’s comments are wonderful barometers upon which you can rate the quality of an event or a golf course. It was so satisfying to hear remarks complimenting the conditions not only for these majors but throughout the entire 2017-18 golf season. The fairways were plusher than ever and the greens rolled true and fast. It was as if Deering Bay was prepared for a ‘Major” U.S.G.A. golf tournament throughout the season.

CHEF’S C O R N E R

I

would like to thank everyone who participated in our “Coffee Talks.” We covered a wide variety of issues, concerns and ideas. I would like to assure everyone, as I mentioned in the meetings, that my only goal as the chef here at Deering Bay is to make people happy with the AWESOME food. Although although sometimes things may occur, please know that we are continually working hard to improve all aspects of our kitchen!

John Gray Executive Chef

Much of my first six months here in our kitchen began at the beginning of the high season and involved not only a lot of restaurant/banquet business combined with seasonal events but for me also adjusting to a kitchen system that was already long-standing and making the efforts to improve and retrain where we felt it was necessary. The kitchen is the one place in the Club that must be ever-changing to create a sense of variety. Many times some of our members would like to see less change and others enjoy seeing change and look forward to much more variety in our offering, I think now I have a better sense of where to protect our longstanding favorites and where we can use our creativity to keep our foodies wanting more! We are once again using Niman Ranch farm-raised beef and pork which is a favorite here at the club. All of our seafood comes in fresh three-four times a week from three different suppliers. I have sourced all of our fish as BEST CHOICE or BEST ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS as listed on SEAFOOD WATCH which is an organization that collects information globally on how our fish is being sourced and its environmental impact. You can be assured you are consuming the best seafood here at Deering Bay. From now on, all fish will be portioned at a hearty eight ounces! We have already made some adjustments to our daily lunch buffet and will come up with even more creative ideas for when we relaunch in the fall. This month we will be announcing for everyone to join us for our new food approach on Sunday evenings. STAY TUNED! We will continue to look at many details and work very diligently to make everyone excited about eating here for lunch, dinner and all your special occasions. Many of the issues we covered were based on personal preferences of things people enjoy or would like to see at lunch and dinner. I would request that everyone feel free to send me an e-mail, j.gray@dbycc.com any time and share your thoughts or ideas about all of our culinary happenings. With that said we have heard some ideas that are sometimes in direct conflict with the likes of others such as cream soups versus brothy soups! Please know we will try to make everything come together for one great experience!

Best Regards,

John Gray Executive Chef j.gray@dbycc.com
