A M E S S A G E FROM THE PRESIDENT
I
n order to keep you informed of what your Board, along with Karen and her staff, are doing to enhance your Club experience and ensure a financially healthy, vibrant Deering Bay for the foreseeable future, I wanted to share a few things with all of you.
On a recent Saturday, Karen and the full Board participated in an eight-hour retreat at the Dadeland Marriott. The session was led by Rob DeMore (President of Troon’s Privé Club Division) and Ricardo Catarino (our Troon Regional VP).
Larry Woerner President
During the meeting we looked at the current situation of Private Clubs in the US, performed a candid, detailed “SWOT” analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) of Deering Bay, reviewed our financial position, and membership levels so that we could develop a detailed strategic plan for this year and beyond. As a result, the Board fully supports an immediate exploration to develop a detailed Capital Improvement Plan to elevate our Club. We will develop an architectural plan to include an enhanced fitness center/spa, creation of casual outdoor dining, reimagine the pool area and carefully review the way we utilize the space we have available. Additionally, the Club will invest in a reserve study to evaluate and preserve the infrastructure of the current physical assets. These two critical pieces of information will serve as the foundation for the future strategic plan needs. To begin this process in earnest, in late February the Board engaged in a detailed brainstorming session which was led by Cindy Anderson of Troon. Cindy has been involved in Capital Improvement projects for several properties that Troon manages. Many great ideas surfaced which will now be used to create a specific plan for Deering Bay. This resulting Capital Improvement Plan, as well as the proposed funding model, will be presented to the full membership in a series of Town Hall Meetings for your feedback. The goal will be to answer questions, get suggestions and then present the final project for a vote by the membership. We look forward to discussing these exciting plans with all of you! As your President and on behalf of the staff, we are all grateful for the continued support from so many of you in the membership. Our Club is very important to each of us and I recognize people are very passionate about our Club. However, this passion must be respectful at all times toward your fellow members and the staff. Respect is best illustrated in remembering to both replace your divots, but also how we all interact with each other. As a reminder, I’m including a link to the current set of Club Rules and Regulations. This Board will not tolerate any stakeholder (member, vendor or employee) who does not exemplify what we all proudly expect and enjoy about our Club. Our collective mission is always to ensure our Club is a place we all enjoy together and pridefully showcase to our family and friends. Lastly, we just completed our most successful Men’s Member-Guest Golf Invitational to date. Our staff made this an incredible experience that will indeed never be forgotten. I would like to personally thank Karen, Jimmy, Dave, Craig, Max, Sandra and Chef John for all the effort that was put into beautifying and improving the entire course and for all of the great meals we had in between. Thanks to all those who participated and to everyone who made it happen. We look forward to our continued success and bright days ahead. As always, please feel free to reach out to our General Manager, Karen Harmon (k.harmon@dbycc.com) or I (lwoerner54@yahoo.com) if you want to discuss anything.
Best Regards,
Larry Woerner President

A N O T E FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER/COO
L Karen Harmon General Manager/ COO
et’s hop into spring with something new...like the launch of our newly redesigned website, which will be a one stop location for all members and staff to get the most up to date information about everything going on at Deering Bay. Our Communications Manager, Bryan Rodriguez has worked diligently with the project team at MembersFirst to redesign and develop a website that captures the true essence of our Club, provides easy access and use by our members, and overall enhances our communication with you. Any important news, announcements, events, activities taking place at the Club or last minute changes will be found here. We hope you enjoy the new look, functionality and ease of navigation. A BIG thank you to Bryan for the hours and detail that went into the website and for all he does all year! Please note that the online tee times and dining and social reservations will be available at a later time once our staff has completed all training. Also, the mobile application is available to download on the App Store and Google Play Store. We just completed our Annual Men’s Member-Guest Invitational which has seen another successful year as we had a full field for the first time in years. Congratulations to Colin O’Reilly and his guest Alex Ojea for their win and to all of the members and guests who participated. I would like to thank our staff who worked so hard to make the MemberGuest such a great event - to all it was outstanding. Next up in major tournaments for the Club is the Women’s Tennis Member-Guest that will be hosted on Thursday, March 8th with a full field of women who are ready to dominate on the courts and the Men’s Golf Spring Member-Member from Thursday, March 15th–Sunday, March 18th. If it’s a day on the greens or a day just splashing around at our pool, please make sure to sign in all of your guests. We want to keep all of our members and staff as safe as possible, and in order to do so we need to be aware at all times of who is on the premises. Also, please include your guests in any and all reservations that you make in the event they need to be contacted. This month we are welcoming back a former member of the DBYCC family. Jenny Hecheverria has accepted her new role as Controller. The Controller is a huge asset to the Club as she will work closely with the Board and myself in determining the day to day expenses and long term financial goals. Making sure that Deering Bay is always in compliance with state and federal regulations through regular audits, Jenny will serve as one of the primary performers in the finance division, in keeping us afloat of any processes that will directly affect us. Also, Jorge Rivera has joined us as our new Assistant Director of Food & Beverage. Jorge is a graduate from Florida State University who majored in Hospitality Management with a concentration in Private Club Management. Jorge has joined us from a fellow TROON property and will being assisting Max in the day to day operations of our Dining Room. Although I’m happy to be welcoming a past employee and a new member to team, I’m sadden to say that our Hostess, Brittany Ramos has decided to pursue new endeavors – we wish her nothing, but continued success both personally and professionally. Aidi Nambo has joined our Front of House team as your new Hostess. Please help me in welcoming her to the family and thanking each member of our team tomorrow, Friday, March 2nd as we celebrate National Employee Appreciation Day. As stated in previous communications, you’ll now have the ability to vote for the Manager & Employee of the Quarter. Submissions will be accepted from Monday, March 5th Wednesday, March 28th. The nomination form may be found on the members’ side of the Club’s website in the “Member Surveys” section. The winners will be announced in the April newsletter. During the upcoming months we will have some closure dates for maintenance to improve the facilities for your future enjoyment. Please be advised below: Golf: Tuesday, May 29th-Thursday, May 31st; reopening on Friday, June 1st at 12 pm
