ike many of our members, my family and I have spent much of the last two months away from Miami. On returning, I was very impressed with the many activities that continued during our “slow” season. I heard rave reviews from members regarding our recent End of Summer Pool Party & Cookout. We had nearly 100 people participating, with the pool full of families enjoying a great day in the sun. It was gratifying to hear that many of our newer members joined in this fabulous event. Under the leadership of Max and Chef John, a series of great themed-evenings were a hit! Seafood Night was a sellout in June followed by Asian Night in July and Peruvian Night in late August. Friday’s lobster nights continue to be a success as well as our traditional Prime Rib Saturdays. For those returning from their summer holiday, please bring your families and friends and test out some of the new menu offerings that Chef John has rolled out. I also would like to once again welcome Lee Andrea as our new General Manager/

COO. Lee has hit the ground running and has impressed everyone with his dedication, professionalism and sense of humor. The Board and I look forward to working closely with Lee and the Troon resources to start the process on making our Capital Improvement Plan a reality. Jimmy Germana and his team have worked long and hard this summer on our golf course. The course is rounding into shape and all indications are that this fall we will see the course in absolutely the best shape it has ever been in — kudos once again to Jimmy and his staff! For those who have been traveling, I welcome all of you back to your beautiful club – and look forward to seeing everyone in the coming days and weeks.
Best Regards,
Larry Woerner President lwoerner54@yahoo.com

A N O T E FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER/COO
F Lee Andrea General Manager/ COO
irst and foremost, it is my pleasure to extend special thanks and appreciation for the warm welcome I received when I arrived at the Club. I can truly say that the experience I’ve had within the past few weeks has been remarkable. It is always delightful to get the opportunity to see new faces, engage in discussion, and discuss how my team and I can continue creating memorable experiences for you and your guests. As the weeks and months progress, I look forward to meeting all of you, and answering your questions or addressing your concerns. I have an open-door policy, so please never hesitate to reach out to me via email at l.andrea@dbycc.com, or via text or telephone at 678.858.9682. It has been an equally rewarding experience meeting and interacting with the Club staff. Being a veteran in the hospitality industry, and more specifically in the golf club industry, I have had the privilege to work with some incredible talent. However, when it comes to the team here at Deering Bay, I can truly state that they are exceptional. I look forward to engaging more fully with my team to ensure they always have the resources necessary to realize their fullest potential as a group tasked with serving you with exceptionalism at all times. Along with the support from Troon, the Board and various committees, my team and I look forward to implementing operational efficiencies aimed at enhancing the overall experience for one of our Club’s greatest assets – you, our members. Our Member Billing Specialist Kathy Villamizar will be on maternity leave through mid-December. During this time, please direct all member billing questions to Controller Jenny Hecheverria. Jenny can be reached at 305.964.4042 or jhecheverria@ dbycc.com. We wish Kathy a happy and safe delivery, and look forward to meeting the newest member of our team - Luna Yvonne Alfonso. I am also truly delighted to announce that Jessica Terry has been promoted to the role of catering manager. Jessica has been with the Club for over 12 years and has served in various roles. I’m confident that her dedication to the success of the Club will take the food & beverage department to new heights. As Jessica transitioned to her new role, Dining Room Server Lee-Ann Smith has taken on additional responsibilities, and has proven to be an asset in the food & beverage

area. Lee-Ann took on the responsibilities leading to the successful end to the summer camp, and will continue with assisting the kids/teens department. We are delighted to announce that LeeAnn will still be here to serve your dining needs on a part-time basis. It is with sadness we announce that our Communications Manager Bryan Rodriguez has resigned from his position, and will end his three-year tenure with our Club on Friday, September 14. Although I have only been at Deering Bay for a little over a month, I have heard many great things about Bryan from my colleagues within the Troon leadership team, and from our staff and members alike. Please join me in wishing Bryan the best in his new career endeavors. We are currently in the process of interviewing potential candidates for this position, and hope to have someone in place in the coming weeks. Soon, we look forward to welcoming back our members who left us for cooler weather throughout the summer months. As we prepare for a new season, please keep checking your emails regularly as we put the finishing touches on our yearly club calendar, highlighting all of what is yet to come. On a final note, this month marks the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Irma. It was truly great to learn that the majority of our membership and staff were not seriously affected by the hurricane as those in Puerto Rico and the Keys were – my condolences to all families who lost loved ones during Irma. In preparation for the hurricane season, we have taken some steps that will help keep us safe. Thank you for your continued patronage of the Club. I look forward to advancing our collective vision and mission during the remainder of 2018 and beyond.
Best Regards,
Lee Andrea General Manager/COO l.andrea@dbycc.com

reetings Deering Bay Family! August brought us change at the Club from a new General Manager to a new club within the Club. Our new General Manager, Lee Andrea started in August and he brings with him knowledge and a lot of positive energy. We are excited to be working with him in continuing to make Deering Bay the best club in Miami.
John Gale Director of Mktg. & Membership
My colleague Daniella Tosta launched the Club’s very first Car Club. We had a tremendous showing of beautiful cars and participation from our members. As we look into September we are starting our member golf tournaments. September will also bring us a competitive statewide tournament to our very own Deering Bay. The FSGA Men’s Mid-Senior Four-Ball Championship will be held September 8th–9th. Please contact Dave Ragan to sign up and keep the trophy at Deering Bay. Our second Car Club meeting will also be this month on the 12th and we
look forward to doubling the number of cars displayed! A special congratulations goes to…
JOHN MARSHALL who is the winner of the Membership Ambassador Raffle for August. Mr. Marshall, thank you for your referral. Please see Daniella or myself in the Membership Office to receive your prize of a Brunch for two with mimosas or a Golf Foursome. See you around the Bay!

GREEN R E P O R T
I
hope that everyone has been enjoying their summer. We’ve been quite busy on the golf course this whole season! For those of you who stayed, I want to thank you for your patience for the duration of our annual maintenance. I know it must have seemed like the greens weren’t always up to par, but the weather cooperated with us, and we were able to James “Jimmy” Germana accomplish everything on schedule. Part Director of Grounds of our projects included: four aerifications of the greens, two aerifications and verticuts on the fairways and tees. Our main project this year was the leveling of #5 gold and blue tees, #11 gold tee, and the forward tee on #16. These three tees were the worst out of the lot and this process has allowed us to expand their size, allowing us to utilize more of the surface when setting up the tee markers. This will help with the overall health of the turf as well as not having to play from divot areas all the time. These tees will be open for play on Labor Day. Another small project we completed at the end of the summer was installing a nursery green next to the gold and blue tees on #18. Once the nursery green is completely grown in it will be extremely helpful, not only will we be able to readily take turf from there, but we will also be able to test products out before they are applied on the golf course. As you will see it is still in the early stages of growth but should be ready in time for our season. We will also
be beautifying the area around the green so it’s more aesthetically pleasing. Lastly, we are still continuing to add and replace plants around the golf course and clubhouse. In the next few weeks, we will be replacing the two bougainvilleas at the front of the clubhouse and the bromeliads which are in front of the white, blue, and gold tees on #16 lining the lake bank. We have also scheduled our annual flower install for the clubhouse the week of October 8th. The summer annuals will be coming out a little earlier than last year because we are taking more plant material out behind them and we need to prep the beds. I am very excited about this upcoming season! The overall turf health around the course is the best I have seen since I have started here at Deering Bay. I can’t wait to see you all out here enjoying your beautiful golf course. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns, j.germana@dbycc.com. Also, please always remember to fix your ball marks and fill your divots.
Regards,
James “Jimmy” Germana Director of Grounds j.germana@dbycc.com
