A M E S S A G E FROM THE PRESIDENT

I

t is hard to believe that this is my final column in the monthly newsletter. After six years on the Board, and the last year serving as President, I will be leaving the Deering Bay Board at the end of the year.

One of the key goals of leave the organization in This Board is proud of are excited as we enter

Larry Woerner President

any volunteer board or board member is to a stronger position than when one entered. what has been accomplished this year and 2019 with considerable positive momentum.

As we look at 2018, at the top of the list of accomplishments is the consolidation of our professional management team under the competent leadership of Lee Andrea. Lee – and his crack team of senior department managers – Dave, Max, Jimmy, Jenny, John, Renny, Pedro, Ana, Jessica, Erik, Carmen, Daniella and Jorge – work tirelessly to make sure that your experience at Deering Bay is as good as it can be. I have been very impressed with the dedication, professionalism and good humor of Lee and his team. I want to thank the entire staff of Deering Bay for everything you do for the Club and our membership – we are very proud of you. Among other key accomplishments in 2018 include: • Working with our membership to pass a Capital Assessment that provides resources for the Club to embark on a major project focused on making major renovations and improvements in our facilities. We firmly believe that this upgrade will permit us to retain our current membership and help to attract the next generation of members • Selected and reached an agreement with the architect who will lead the Clubhouse Renovation project in 2019. We have also obtained a very favorable financing offer that will ensure the financial viability of Phase 1 of our project • The golf course has never been in better shape and we will set a record for most rounds played in 2018 •Finances are under control and we are able to enter 2019 without increasing annual dues • Membership pipeline is strong as the renovation plans have created a considerable amount of excitement •We have consolidated the relationship with Troon and are beginning to more fully tap into the resources and support available to strengthen our Club. All in all, the Board believes this has been a very positive year for Deering Bay and we look forward to an even better 2019. I want to thank you, our membership, for the tremendous support you have given to the Board. It has truly been a pleasure for me to have served on the Board for the last 6 years and observe firsthand the evolution of our Club. I wish all of you and your families a safe and happy holiday season. Respectfully, Larry Woerner President

A N O T E FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER/COO

T Lee Andrea General Manager/ COO

he holiday season is here! In the spirit of the season, we are decorating around the Club and creating an atmosphere that reflects how delighted we are to share this festive and joyous time of year with you. We also have several exciting events planned in December. One of the season’s highlights is our Annual Holiday Party, which will be hosted on Wednesday, Dec. 5. As is customary, we kindly request that you bring an unwrapped toy in support of the Coral Gables Fire & Police Department’s toy drive to benefit those in need within our community. The Hanukkah Candle Lighting & Dinner will be held on Sunday, Dec. 2, with the menorah lighting being hosted again by our dear fellow member Dr. Philip Grossman. Our Annual Santa Brunch on Sunday, Dec. 16, is also an important event as we celebrate the season. This event provides the opportunity to take photos with Santa. To top off the festive season, we welcome you and yours for our New Year’s Eve celebration on Monday, Dec. 31. This celebration will give you and yours an opportunity to bring in the New Year in a fun and memorable way. Finally, we look forward to welcoming you back on New Year’s Day as you play golf and/or dine with us for lunch. Kindly note we will not be offering dinner on New Year’s Day. On behalf of our entire Club staff, we extend our sincerest thanks and appreciation for everyone who contributed to the Employee Holiday Fund. Your generosity reflects the degree of your gratitude for the hard work and diligence our team exhibits as we serve you on a daily basis. Our goal in 2019 and beyond is to continue providing this exceptional level of customer service excellence that is an important component of our Club’s culture. Thank you for your continued support. The Golf & Green Committee has designated certain black-out periods for the use of annual guest passes. Kindly note that this restriction still allows your guests to play with you, but the annual passes unfortunately cannot be used during this time. For your convenience, the black-out dates are Sunday, Dec. 23 – Monday, Jan. 1. This guest play restriction is only limited to these dates. We are also delighted to remind you of our Preview Membership program, which provides your family and friends with the unique opportunity to enjoy the Club’s amenities for a six-month period. This program serves as one of the most thoughtful holiday gifts. Kindly consider treating a loved one to this remarkable offer. While my tenure here to date has been slightly over three months, the relationships I have built and the friends I have made account for my best months of 2018. Working collaboratively with an incredibly supportive staff, Board and various membership committees, I have not only learned about our Club’s culture, but have quickly adopted many of the important elements that have made our Club one of the premier clubs in the area. The degree of operational excellence that our Club continually offers to our patrons is the hallmark of our existence. Further, the unrelenting support from the Troon corporate team in Phoenix, and Troon’s regional leadership team, including Vice President Ricardo Catarino, has been an integral component of the success of my time here so far. It is with pleasure I look forward to working with everyone again in 2019 and beyond. My heartfelt and sincerest thanks and appreciation goes out to the entire Board, whose members have individually and collectively been a table driving force for operational success at our Club. It has been the honor of a lifetime working with everyone on the Board for the past few months. However, I will certainly miss the guidance and wisdom of Board President Larry Woerner. I truly wish him the very best and thank them for all they have done in support of the Club and my tenure here to date. We look forward to welcoming and working with the new member who will replace Larry in this critical role. I am also looking forward to working with Richard P., Robert, Sarah, John, Gaston, Steven, Jimmie and Richard G. in 2019 as we collectively advance the Club’s vision and mission.

DECEMBER 2018 • 6

I also extend my heartfelt thanks to my Club staff within our various operational areas. Under the guidance of Jessica, Renny, David, Erik, Pedro, Daniella, Max, Jimmy, Ana, Carmen, Jenny, Jorge and John, our teams have done an admirable job of serving in their respective positions and areas with exceptionalism. I sincerely appreciate their relentless support and appreciation as we close out an incredible year of service to our members. May you and yours experience the true meaning and spirit of the season, and the joy it brings to all of us. I look forward to working with you in 2019. Cheers to a safe, joyous and memorable holiday season! Yours in service, Lee Andrea General Manager/COO

MEMBERSHIP M E S S A G E

S

eason’s greetings Deering Bay Family. What a year 2018 has been at the club. We’ve had several changes introduced to the club from a membership perspective. We have introduced a new membership that provides access to tennis and golf during the summer months and we also introduced a Junior Golf program for high school-aged golfers. Our Young Executive Membership has changed from ages 25-39 to now age 25-44. The Preview Membership has been a great success and has been a gateway membership to introduce prospective members to the club. In total, the Membership Team has brought in more than 70 plus total new memberships in 2018! The majority of our new members came from member referrals so we want to thank our members for entrusting us with your referrals.

John Gale Director of Marketing & Membership

There were many events hosted by the Membership Department throughout the year that brought in outside rock bands, Tesla test drive experience, first annual car show, craft beer tastings, PXG Demo Social, and the Miami Marlins B2B social to name a few. The events were a huge success and there are more coming in 2019!! December alone will be filled with multiple fun events for the whole family. As we look forward to 2019 our goal is to continue to enhance your membership experience. Please be on the lookout for a communication regarding our Deering Bay App. Members will soon be able to make tee time reservations and dining reservations through your very own club app! The app is just the beginning of what is to come in 2019.

A special congratulations goes to…

DR. JESUS MARTINEZ who is the winner of the Membership Ambassador Raffle for the Month of November. Dr. Sanders, thank you for your referral. Please see Daniella or myself in the Membership Office to receive your prize of a Brunch for two with mimosas or a Golf Foursome.

Have a wonderful and joyful holiday! John Gale Director of Marketing & Membership
