A M E S S A G E FROM THE PRESIDENT

O

n behalf of our Board, we wish you and yours a happy and healthy new year. I am flattered to have been selected as the president of our Board. We have a cohesive Board that is resolute in its efforts to make our Club experience one that is valued by our members and attractive for others to join. The Board has a high level of confidence in Lee Andrea’s managerial skills and experience. Our role as a Board is to provide oversight of management on behalf of our members and to support management in executing our budget and plans.

Steven Sonenreich The renovation project is an ambitious plan that we will make every effort to implement on time and on budget while minimizing disruption to our membership’s experience. As President we embark on this project, we will keep you apprised on the timeline at a monthly basis in a continuous spirit of transparency. Helen and I enjoy the club very much and it is a valued part of our social life which is why I initially agreed to participate on our Board. The role of leadership is a much larger commitment of time and responsibility that I would not be able to undertake without the strategic pathway that was defined by Larry Woerner during his presidency. Larry is a model Board leader, gentleman and will continue to be a valued resource to me. On behalf of all of us, thank you Larry.

MEMBER MIXER

I look forward to seeing you all at the club. Sincerely yours,

Steven Sonenreich President

A N O T E FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER/COO

H Lee Andrea General Manager/ COO

appy New Year! I truly hope you and your families had a safe and enjoyable holiday season, and are poised to receive the great things 2019 has to offer. In the spirit of the New Year, I look forward to collaborating with all of you, our Club’s staff, our esteemed Board of Directors, and the Troon corporate team as we collectively advance the vision and mission for our vibrant Club. Progress at our Club in 2018 could not have been possible without contributions from all stakeholders. Our club’s employees have been relentless in their efforts to provide exceptional customer service and memorable experiences for our members and their guests; our Board of Directors has been incredibly supportive of our efforts, and has served as a valuable resource for guidance and direction on many of our major initiatives; and the Troon corporate team, including Vice President - Operations Ricardo Catarino, has been relentless in all efforts to continually provide the resources our Club needs to succeed. Collectively, these actions provided a pathway to serving our members and their guests with exceptionalism and a level of service that is second to none. Thank you, everyone. As we close out this successful, fun-filled and interesting year at our Club, we extend our sincerest gratitude for your continued support, and hope you were able to join us on New Year’s Eve as our Club’s staff celebrated this important partnership with one of our Club’s greatest assets – you, our members. As we usher in 2019, it is our pleasure to issue friendly reminders on a few housekeeping rules. Our Club’s success is heavily reliant on maintaining the values and culture of excellence that our Club staff is tasked with on a daily basis. • •

Kindly ensure that vehicles are not parked at the valet ramp since it is an active working area. Kindly ensure that you and your guests adhere to our Club’s dress code at all times. Any questions or need for clarification on proper attire can be directed to our Club staff, or by visiting our website and viewing the House Rules section. To ensure our food & beverage staff is adequately prepared to serve you and your guests and cater to your personal dining preferences, we kindly recommend dining reservations.

We are always delighted to hear your thoughts regarding any Club-related issues. In light of this, we encourage you to share your comments with us at any time. Further, our quest to continue providing greater value to our members will continue in 2019, in addition to the new technological platforms we introduced in 2018 – a newly redesigned website; a mobile app, and the Club’s first-ever electronic tee sheet. The caddie program has also been welcomed by many members, and we encourage you to explore the benefits of this new privilege to interested members. More information on the caddy program can be obtained by contacting the pro shop. We also look forward to welcoming our 2019 Board of Directors - Steve Sonenreich, president; Richard Pollack, vice president; Rob Sperber, treasurer; Sarah Kuhn, secretary; John Marshall, director; Jimmie Dresnick, director; Dick Griesemer, director; Gaston Legorburu, director; and Leo Chomiak, director. On that note, I extend a special word of thanks to Larry Woerner, former board president. Larry’s dedication and commitment to serving will never be forgotten, and we look forward to what has already begun as Steve’s equally impressive level of dedication and commitment to serving. We wish Larry the very best in his future endeavors, and look forward to providing Steve with all resources and support needed to succeed in his new Board position. On behalf of the entire Club staff, I wish you and yours joy, peace and prosperity in 2019. I look forward to working with our Board, Club staff and various committees to make 2019 an even more progressive and productive year for our Club. Please join us in this effort for what I am confident will be another fantastic year ON THE BAY. As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 305.964.4048 or l.andrea@dbycc.com, or through an in-person visit to my office – my door is always open. It is always a pleasure serving you, and we look forward to serving you again soon. At your service, Lee Andrea General Manager/COO JANUARY 2019 • 6

reetings Deering Bay Family. We are in a brand new year and what better way to get organized than to know what is going around the club with your very own Deering Bay app. All you need to do is go to the app store and search for “Deering Bay Yacht and Country.” Download the app on to your smartphone or tablet. You will be able to schedule your tee times through the app, make dining reservations, see the member directory, account statements, and the club calendar. If you need assistance in downloading the app please stop by the Membership Office and we will gladly assist.

John Gale Director of Mktg. & Membership

I want to let our members know that Deering Bay has partnered with CaddieMaster. Our members can now at their leisure play a round of golf with a walking caddie or forecaddie. If you wish to play with a caddie or forecaddie you can do so by requesting one through the pro shop. A reservation will need to be made 48 hours in advance. Please contact the pro shop for pricing information. Forecaddies accompany players riding in golf carts. Their duties include: • • • • • • • •

providing a general hole description with target lines locating golf balls providing yardage maintaining the golf course by filling divots, raking bunkers and fixing pitch marks attending the flagstick green reading (if asked) maintaining pace-of-play referring guests to the properties’ amenities

For our members who like to travel and play golf at various destinations, you can now do so with the assistance of Golf Advisor. Troon has recently partnered with NBC Sports’ Golf Advisor as a licensee for Troon Golf Vacations. Golf Advisor will offer our members customized golf travel packages to Troon affiliated-courses around the world! For more information and review the various golf packages please visit TroonGolfVacations.com or GolfAdvisor.com In the next coming weeks, we will be announcing a timeline for our upcoming planned clubhouse renovations. This is an exciting time for our club and we want our members to spread this excitement with your friends, family, and the community. A new member referral program is coming out soon so please stay tuned! A special congratulations goes to…

JIM MAYES who is the winner of the Membership Ambassador Raffle for the Month of January. Mr. Mayes, thank you for your referral. Please see Daniella or myself in the Membership Office to receive your prize of a Brunch for two with mimosas or a Golf Foursome. Let’s make it a great year! A N O T E FROM TENNIS

H

appy New Year to all, we hope this New Year finds you in good health and spirits. This year promises to be eventful and fun filled. As everyone returns from vacation we are getting more and more phone calls and reservations and look forward to seeing everyone on the courts.

Pedro Leon Tennis Director

Holding true to tradition our teams are on a path of leadership and victory. The 3.0 & 3.5 U.S.T.A ladies’ teams were very competitive in their leagues. Our Ladies’ Alpha Beta team is halfway through their season and continues to hold one of the top positions. A very big CONGRATULATION is also extended to our U.S.T.A. senior 3.5 ladies team that once again came up with the victory in the fall league. We also have a number of events coming up and encourage everyone to participate in the fun, as with our tennis family there is never a dull moment. Our U.S.T.A. and league matches all resume as well as regularly scheduled clinics and classes. We continue working hard to keep our tennis courts as one of the best; and to help us achieve this goal we welcome our new maintenance staffer Conor Welch. We all love tennis; besides a good workout and immense fun it also brings us together. With that said, we should take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to put our skills to work. Please contact the Tennis Pro-Shop with any questions. Once again, Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you on the courts.

Warm Regards Pedro Leon Director of Tennis

A M E S S A G E FROM THE HEAD GOLF PRO

T

he 2018 season flew by, and with many lessons and clinics during the year, we were happy to introduce new members to golf for the first time. 2019 is going to be an exciting year, with so many new rules changes coming up, and the new Callaway, Taylor Made and Titleist product lines look like winners. As many of you already will know, from the 1st of January 2019 there will be major rule changes in the Rules of Golf. Below you have an overview of the most dramatic changes for the new season.

Dave Ragan III Head Golf Professional

• • • • •

Rule 10: Double-hit, when you accidentally double-hit your ball, the shot counts as one shot, not as 2 shots anymore. Rule 13: Hitting the flagstick is now allowed when the ball is laying on the green. There is no more a 2-shot penalty when the flagstick is struck. Rule 14: Dropping the ball is no longer from shoulder height but from knee height. Rule 15: Loose impediments in a penalty area (bunker or hazard) are now allowed to be removed without a penalty shot. Loose impediments are stones, twigs, etc. Rule 18: The time that a player is allowed to search for his ball is reduced from 5 to 3 minutes.

During the winter it is the ideal time to work on your golf fundamental’s with our excellent teaching staff led by John Pallot. Please visit our teaching staff for a tune up for our busy season of golf tournaments including the popular Men’s Member-Guest in February. The Member-Guest has a limited field of 42 teams and is expected to fill up quickly. Sign up today! Also during the winter season, it is a good idea, to take a look at your equipment. Are your grips still in a good condition, or are your wedges still sharp? These are all little things which may have a negative influence on your game if they are not in the right shape. Stop by the golf shop and we can have a look through your bag and see if any changes have to be made.

Warm regards, Dave Ragan III Head Golf Professional
