A M E S S A G E FROM THE PRESIDENT
I
trust that you are enjoying your summer and our Country Club.
We are finalizing both our financing package for the forthcoming renovations as well as the renovation plans and phasing. Our expectation is to announce the final plans by the end of July. The plans are exciting and transformative for the future of our Club.
Steven Sonenreich President
As I mentioned in my June letter the board has challenged our Troon management team to be more aggressive in our marketing efforts to grow our membership at a pace that is significantly greater than the current pace that is essentially flat. We have a wonderful Club that should have a greater profile in the community than it currently has. With that said, it is also all of our responsibility to tout our Club to friends and the benefit of membership. The following is a high level summary of the marketing plan and incentives approved by the board at its last meeting to attract young members. Please let us know if you have a membership prospect that we can work together to recruit.
Best regards, Steven Sonenreich President
Summary of Sales and Marketing Plan for June-December 2019 This document aims to outline and summarize the proposed sales and marketing efforts for the remainder of the 2019 year. The document is broken down per target marketing demographics, advertisement strategy and sales reforecast for the remainder of the year. 1. Focus on Deering Bay Target Market 2. Marketing Initiatives for Lead Generation (June – December 2019) A. Social, Digital & Other Media B. Realtor Outreach C. Direct Mail/New Homeowners D. Networking & Outreach Organizations E. Members should pay the difference when transitioning from one category to the next. i.e. A 29 y.o. should pay $5,000 initially and then pay the remaining $5,000 after turning 30 under the same terms (annually or payment plan). C. Member may pay initiation fee over the course of 5 years with no interest. D. Annual dues can be paid with a credit card. A convenience fee applies to credit card use as a form of payment. Convenience fee subject to change at the Club’s sole discretion.

A N O T E FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER/COO
S Lee Andrea General Manager/ COO
ummer is officially here, which also means marking the halfway point of our vibrant Club’s exciting and enjoyable year! Before getting into anything else, I would like to extend my sincerest thanks and appreciation for your continued support of our Club and the work my team and I are doing. On behalf of our entire staff, we sincerely appreciate your continuous words of gratitude and appreciation for what we have collectively achieved to advance our Club’s 2019 vision and mission. I continue to thoroughly enjoy my email, phone call and in-person communications with many of you, as you share not only your compliments but also recommendations on how we can streamline operations at our Club. Our Board of Directors, Troon and my staff and I are fully invested in maintaining our Club as a remarkable and enjoyable place that you and your families can spend time together beyond the boundaries of your homes. Further, based on your memorable experiences with us, we kindly request that you refer us to your friends so they too can become part of our vibrant golf community and share in the rewarding experiences our Club has to offer. However, as we seek to increase our membership base, we are also cognizant of the sustained need to keep our existing members happy, and ensure that every experience they have with us is a rewarding and memorable one. I am confident that we have the right team in place, and the necessary passion, determination and dedication to continue achieving our goals and moving our Club toward the next level in every aspect of our operations. In light of this, we ask that you sit back, relax and enjoy what will be a wonderful journey for the second half of 2019. Our activities over the past few months have also included projects that will enhance the aesthetically pleasing nature of our Club and grounds. Improvements made include polished marble in hallways; re-sanding and re-staining of the wood floor at the bar; steam cleaning of all carpeting; pressure washing of the valet ramps; and deep cleaning throughout the Club. The course maintenance operations staff was also busy at work with various course improvements. On the food & beverage front, we are actively engaged in the recruitment process for an executive chef. I will provide an update via email blast in the coming weeks once we have hired a replacement. My staff and I are fully committed to improving your membership experience in every aspect of our operations. I extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to my staff for maintaining the focus in their respective operations. As you pursue your summer travel plans, we wish you and yours safe travels and an enjoyable time. Kindly remember to share your interesting happenings and photos with us for inclusion in an upcoming newsletter. Our Communications Manager Ana Lopez would be delighted to receive and process your submissions, so please reach out to her at communications@dbycc.com. For our members still here, please indulge in one of our Club’s greatest offerings and amenities – our refreshing junior Olympic-size swimming pool. As a friendly reminder, the Club and golf course will be closed from Monday, July 8, through Thursday, July 18, for our annual summer refresh project. As is customary throughout these dates, we engage in much-needed improvements around the Club, conduct staff training, and work on new menu items for your dining pleasure. Further, the fitness center and classes will be available throughout these dates, and we encourage you to join us as you work toward what many of you have branded – an attempt at the new and healthier you! As always, it is my pleasure to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have. I am always truly delighted to serve you, and look forward to serving you again soon. Cheers to a safe and enjoyable summer.
At your service, Lee Andrea General Manager/COO

e are in the middle of summer and it is a hot one! What better way to cool down and enjoy the long summer days then by being at your Club. We have all the amenities necessary for you and your family to just “chill.” You can keep up-to-date with our scheduled activities by logging in to your Deering Bay App.
John Gale Director of Mktg. & Membership
The first fun-filled planned event for July is a time-honored tradition and celebration of independence. That’s right I am talking about the 4 of July! There will be a golf tournament taking place on that day, plus DJ, pool party, water slides, picnic and fun for everyone! So make sure to RSVP ahead of time and invite your friends to join as we celebrate our nation’s independence. July is also a good time to bring your friends to the Club to experience a piece of Deering Bay. They might not want to leave and possibly consider joining the Club. If they do decide to join we have a Summer Preview promotion going on that your friends and family can take advantage of. For more information on the promotion, please do not hesitate to contact me or Daniella Tosta to learn more.
A special congratulations goes to…
LEE HOLTZMAN who is the winner of the Membership Ambassador Raffle for the Month of July. Mr. Holtzman, thank you for your referral. Please see Daniella or myself in the Membership Office to receive your prize of a Brunch for two with mimosas or a Golf Foursome.
That is all for now. Have a safe and fun-filled summer!
Cheers, John Gale Director of Marketing & Membership

A N O T E FROM GOLF
T
he Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club is a traditional, private membership which we are dedicated in providing our members quality golf products, programs, activities, facilities, and services. Throughout this year, I’m delighted to report golf has experienced record participation and our members have arguably enjoyed the finest playing conditions from October through June since the Club opened in 1991. The unseasonably warm winter and early spring resulted in increased rounds in several months during the golf season.
Dave Ragan III Head Golf Professional
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the entire golf staff including, Dominic Del Ricco, Assistant Professional who did a magnificent job overseeing this year’s major golf tournaments. The Men’s & Women’s Member-Guest, Member-Member’s, Club Championship’s, President’s Cup, Match Play and Women’s Invitational were successful events. The professional staff conducted a wide variety of tournaments and learning programs with over 190 separate events on the calendar for the 2018-19 Golf season. Participation in events was the largest in recent years and the individual lesson program grew as members enjoyed a variety of instruction from private lessons to Men’s, Women’s and Junior classes. The Junior After-School program continued to grow under the leadership of professionals Paul Pontillo, and Derek Wilcox. Nicole Huntley, Merchandiser produced increased merchandise sales over previous seasons. The Golf Shop is considered one of the premier private club golf shop’s in South Florida and was nominated by the South Florida PGA for merchandising as a leading Golf Shop-Private. During the 2018-19 Golf season, the Club hosted 12 golf outings with over 1,400 participants on Mondays while the course was closed. Many of these outings were hosted by or referred to the Club by our members. Thank you to these members for hosting your special guests at Deering Bay. John Pallot, Teaching Professional, was named South Florida PGA Southern Chapter Teacher of the Year for his outstanding contributions to instruction. Dave Ragan III was recognized by the South Florida PGA Section as a nominee for Merchandiser of the Year. We are looking forward to entering into a wonderful Summer Season! I’m happy to announce the club has entered into a Reciprocal Golf Program. This is an exciting and unique benefit to Golf Members of Deering Bay. As a golf member you will have reciprocal playing privileges at several other quality clubs in the area. This program does not grant membership privileges at the other participating facilities, but it does allow Golf Members to play other courses at greatly reduced rates. Locally the reciprocal participating clubs include: Coral Ridge Country Club, Lago Mar Country Club, Ft. Lauderdale Country Club, La Gorce Country Club, Riviera Country Club, Weston Hills, and The Links at Fisher Island. The reciprocity agreement is May 30-October 15, 2019. One of the highlights of 2019 was the Deering Bay Junior Interclub team who won the South Florida Junior Interclubs season long point’s race by defeating Riviera Country Club, Trump National Doral, and La Gorce Country Club. The 2019 season was the 10th anniversary of the event and the first victory for Deering Bay. Congratulations to all our junior golfers who participated, and we look forward to retaining the trophy for another year! The Golf Schedule for 2019-20 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting golf seasons ever. Our traditional Men’s and Women’s Championships along with the MGA, WGA, Interclubs, Couples, Junior Tournaments, Jr. Interclubs, and Parent/Child events promise to make the upcoming calendar a special season. To our wonderful Members, thank you for your support of golf throughout 2018-19, and thanks to the entire golf team for their daily efforts on behalf of our members. We are looking forward to an exciting and successful year in 2019-2020! Fairways & Greens, Dave Ragan III Head Golf Professional

GREENS R E P O R T
I
hope that everyone is enjoying their summer so far. We have been quite busy on the golf course this summer. First, I would like to start off by introducing our new Assistant Superintendent, Shawn Fettig. Shawn comes to us from Card Sound where he was an intern before he was promoted to assistant superintendent. Shawn previously worked as intern at Lancaster CC and Erin Hills before coming down to South Florida. Shawn will be a tremendous asset to our Club and operation on the golf course, and we are very excited to have him.
We have accomplished a lot so far this summer and have a lot more scheduled for the James “Jimmy” Germana month of July. During our first two closings, we were able to aerifiy the greens twice, the tees and fairways once and verticut the tees once. We were not able to verticut the Director of Grounds fairways due to the 6 inches of rain we received the week we were closed in June. Up to this point in the summer, the turf has been recovering well and looks healthier than it ever has. A couple of our projects in the coming month include; Re sodding #11 blue tee and #12 ladies tee with Zeon Zoysia, adding drainage to some cart path edges that hold water after rain and irrigation events, root pruning trees to help improve turf conditions, and finally trimming the palms around the Clubhouse as well as the mangroves on the golf course. Along with these projects we will be completing our third aerifcation to the greens and our second aerification to the tees and fairways. I know that for the members still around playing the golf course this summer it seems like the course is always beat up especially the greens. I just want to ensure you that these summer closings are essential to us having the best playing conditions for the fall and winter months. If anyone has any questions about what we are doing on the golf course please don’t hesitate to contact me. I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their summer and I look forward to seeing all of you back in the fall enjoying your beautiful golf course.
Sincerely, James “Jimmy” Germana Director of Grounds

Max’s Selections of the Month
Mayu, Pedro Ximenez, Elqui Valley, Chile, 2017 It looks like we are in for a very hot summer here in South Florida. I kept that in mind when I was walking in the wine cellar and selecting a wine for the month of July. It needed to be light and refreshing and this high elevation grown wine will deliver just that. Please make sure to ask Jairo or Frank for a taste at the Bar. Enjoy this month’s selection, which displays notes of citrus, melon and peach with a crisp finish. G: $8 | B: $31.50
