A M E S S A G E FROM THE PRESIDENT

I

trust that you all are enjoying the club and would agree that the spirit of our membership is excellent. Key indicators of our success are superb attendance levels and positive feedback about our events. That “vibe” is translating into revenue to keep our Club on budget, growing, and retaining members. We are off to a very good start of the year in membership. As I informed you during my first letter to our membership, the renovation would be the key focus of our Board’s attention. In my last letter we included our construction schedule, and that same schedule concludes this letter so we can easily and transparently track our progress.

Steven Sonenreich President I have appointed an Ad Hoc Committee, which I also chair, to track and guide the project.

The Committee includes all of our officers, John Marshall, and our immediate past president, Larry Woerner. This group has been meeting with our team of professionals on an as-needed basis so decisions can be expedited. The entire professional team and the Ad Hoc Committee will be meeting in person in early March to finalize numerous key decisions about the project phasing. We expect to select our contractor quite possibly as early as by the time you read this letter. The following reflects anticipated timelines for the project: • • • • • • •

January through February 2019 – Hiring of all consultants and estimate cost of phases January through April 2019 – Design development, planning and review April 2019 – Cost estimate based on all architectural, interiors, and site design End of May 2019 – Go in for permits of drawings May through end of August 2019 – Reviews by municipalities and receive permits June and July 2019 – Finalize bids and costs for project September 2019 – If all goes well, construction begins!

Thank you all for being supportive of our Club.

Sincerely, Steven Sonenreich President

A N O T E FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER/COO

W

e are now well into the 2019 season, and I hope you and yours are having a safe, productive and enjoyable season thus far. As the season progresses, my team and I look forward to serving you and continuing our culture of customer service excellence.

Lee Andrea General Manager/ COO

I am truly delighted to humbly serve as your GM/COO. The end of February marked my six-month tenure at the Club, and it has truly been a privilege, honor and blessing being a part of such a vibrant membership community. As we collectively advance our vision and mission for our Club, I look forward to collaborating with our board of directors, members, and our club staff as we align our operational policies and procedures with Troon standards and philosophies. You have all been an integral part of the success at our Club, and I am indebted to all of you for continuing to make our Club such a progressive and gratifying environment within which to work. As a friendly reminder, please schedule your appointment for portraits for our new membership directory. Appointments can be scheduled up to March 10. With hundreds of our members needing to be contacted, we appreciate your patience and understanding that this project will take some time. If you have not yet been contacted by the photographer and his team and would like to schedule your appointment, kindly contact Julie at 305-563-0516, or Troy (photographer) at 404-849-0103. Kindly keep in mind that weekends and evenings are the most popular times. For best availability, we strongly recommend that you call as soon as possible. We greatly appreciate the overwhelming member support for and participation in this project. Also, as a friendly reminder, the mobile Members First app is available for download on the App Store and Google Play. Please contact our Communications Manager Ana Lopez if you have any questions. I extend my sincerest thanks and appreciation to our staff who worked so hard to make the member/guest tournament such a great event. It was a truly memorable experience for all who participated. Upcoming major tournaments for the Club include the Women’s Tennis Member-Guest that will be hosted on Thursday, March 14, with a full field of women who are ready to dominate on the resurfaced Har-Tru tennis courts. During the upcoming months, we will announce some closure dates for the maintenance area and clubhouse to improve our facilities for your future enjoyment. We will keep you posted on developments. Let’s make March another great month. Whether it’s attending one of our events, scheduling a private tennis lesson, or joining us by the pool, I hope that you make enjoying everything the Club has to offer a priority. Finally, as a friendly reminder, it is always our pleasure to welcome new members, and you serve as excellent referral resources. In light of this, we kindly request your assistance in referring potential members to the Club by sharing your positive experiences. It is our foremost priority to ensure that we always create and ensure memorable experiences for our members, and provide unparalleled levels of customer service to our members. Our Membership Director John Gale is always delighted to follow up with your referrals, with the hope of successfully recruiting them as members. I am always delighted to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have. Please contact me at L.andrea@dbycc.com or 678-858-9682. From me to you, it is always a pleasure serving you. I sincerely appreciate your continued patronage, and look forward to seeing you at the Club soon.

At your service, Lee Andrea General Manager/COO

A M E S S A G E FROM GOLF

T Dave Ragan III Head Golf Professional

he Annual Men’s Member-Guest Invitational is a tournament that has crowned many worthy champions over the past 23 years. The participants of the MemberGuest had to endure some of our South Florida elements including the mangroves that provide defense at Deering Bay from even the most seasoned golfer. The field of 36 teams was divided into 6 flights with 6 teams in each flight. With the field set and the golf course in pristine condition, the only two things the staff at Deering Bay was unable to control would be the weather and the final outcome of the tournament. The practice round started things off on the right foot with more than three-quarters of the field coming out to hone their skills for the two-day tournament. The tournament emerged with two warm, sun filled and breezy South Florida days. On Saturday the sun shined a bit more favorably and with that dawned your 2019 Men’s Annual MemberGuest Invitational Flight winners.

FLIGHT WINNERS Arnold Palmer (1)

Jack Nicklaus (2)

Ethan Shapiro/Adam Heller

Ben Hogan (3)

Don Elliott/Gary Seaward

*Shoot-Out Wildcard

Gary Sandler/Steven Sandler &

Andy Gross/John Abisch Now that the flight winners have been established, these six teams plus two wild cards (highest point total outside the flight winners) were set for the shoot-out. The teams marched to #14; the shoot-out format was a difficult one…alternate shot, alternate tee elimination on holes #14-#18. Spectators gathered along #14 and questions soon ensued, could the Silverman and Steinberg team win it all? Would Crystal and Acevedo finely win the elusive title? Could O’reilly and Ojea repeat? Would Elliott and Seaward putt their way to the championship? Or would Mr. Woerner and Mr. Baron (co-chairman of the event) and guests, be able to orchestrate a win just as well as they coordinated the tournament? After the three holes of elimination, 3 teams still remained…Elliott/ Seaward, Crystal/Acevedo, and Gross/Abisch. By the narrowest of margins the Gross/ Abisch team was eliminated on #17. The stage was set for the final two teams, Elliott/ Seaward and Crystal/Acevedo. They began play on #18 and only one team would emerge victorious. After both teams reached the green on their 3rd shot, the drama began. Mr. Acevedo made a beautiful stroke at his 30-foot par putt which fell just 6-inches short. Mr. Elliott lined up his nerve-racking 25-foot par putt and calmly holed it to win the crown! Congratulations to Mr. Don Elliott and Mr. Gary Seaward the 2019 Men’s Annual Member-Guest Overall Champions.

Max’s Selections of the Month

Louis Latour, Pouilly-Fuisse, Burgundy, France, 2016 I can’t believe it has been 20 years since I began my journey into the world of wines and it was a bottle of Louis Latour, PouillyFuisse that began this amazing voyage. Over the years I have had the pleasure of meeting hundreds of winemakers from around the world and taste thousands of different wines, but a bottle of Louis Latour, Pouilly-Fuisse always takes me back home. I hope as you enjoy a glass of this wine it takes you back to great memories or more so to make new ones. This wine displays notes of honeydew, pear, lemon-lime with an undertone of minerality onto a crisp finish. G: $12 | B: $42.50
