ear fellow members,
I want to take this opportunity to wish Lee Andrea well in his future endeavors and thank him for all of his efforts on behalf of our club. Lee is hardworking, extraordinarily visible and a person of wonderful character. His contagious smile will be missed by all of us.
Steven Sonenreich President
I thank you all for your inputs in recent weeks and the outstanding attendance at our recent open forum. Although we will not always agree about the the route we take to have a successful club, we should appreciate and respect the board’s hard work and engagement. Once again, we welcome member involvement by participating on our board. I intend to have another open forum in the near future once we have our 2020 budget finalized so that we can walk the members through those highlights as well as our renovation plans which should begin before year’s end. Thank you for your interest and continued support.
Sincerely, Steven Sonenreich President

A N O T E FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER/COO
M
y Dearest DBYCC Members,
Lee Andrea General Manager/ COO
it has been truly delightful seeing you throughout the summer. For those of you who have not ventured out of town during the summer months, your level of engagement and participation in our events, initiatives and projects, and your unwavering patronage of our operation are truly remarkable. I have enjoyed being part of the DBYCC family for the past year, and enjoyed my personalized communication to you through my newsletter contributions. However, it is with intense emotion I write my final newsletter message as my tenure at our vibrant Club will soon come to a close. Words cannot express the sincerest appreciation and deepest gratitude I extend to all of you for having welcomed me to the Club in August 2018, given me the resources and support I needed to succeed, and having maintained a collaborative spirit and progressive mindset as we advanced our Club’s vision and mission. This fantastic opportunity I was given by Troon and the DBYCC Board to serve as your general manager has been one of the hallmarks of my career, and one of the most rewarding aspects of my professional life. In my role here, I have been part of a progressive environment featuring a culture of excellence within all aspects of our operations. Collaboratively with Troon, the various committees, the Board (led by two Board presidents) and my amazing staff, you have helped make the success of our Club possible. Your messages of support and appreciation for what I have done over the past year are immeasurable, and are rewarding on a level that is second to none. As I move on to the next chapter of my life, one great source of consolation is that I am leaving you in capable hands. I am confident that your next general manager will quickly become acclimated with all aspects of our operations, and will master the critical areas of our operations, including advancing the Club’s goals for the imminent clubhouse renovation process. Further, I am confident that our collective and high level of optimism for the Club’s growth and success will undoubtedly be an asset to the Club, Troon and the Board as we move forward. I am dedicated to ensuring a successful and rewarding future in my new assignment, and extend similar sentiments of optimism, progress and success for our Club. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible prior to officially leaving on Oct. 11. Please stop by at your convenience in the coming weeks, so I can say farewell to you in person. I will treat this “goodbye” as a “see you later!” DBYCC has been and will always be a place that I can look back on with no regrets, and all smiles. Thank you for the past year. Cheers for one last time.
Yours in service and gratitude,
Lee Andrea General Manager/COO

embership participation is the key to a successful Club. How can you participate? If you are an Equity Member, this year the Club will have 3 open positions on the Board of Directors and you can still run by petition before November 1. On another note, the monthly Ladies golf Clinic for beginners has become very popular. These ladies had never touched a golf club in their life! If you can relate and want to exercise outdoors, meet new friends and hang out for lunch after the clinic come and join us October 12 at 11 AM. I would like to thank Michele Kaplan for this great idea and the Pros, John Pallot and Dave Ragan, who have the patience to help us become great golfers. As the year progresses, I’m looking forward to all that lies here at Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club. Many Club events are on the horizon, so kindly make your reservations and join us for all the fun! I look forward to seeing you all there. A special congratulations goes to…
MR. MICHAEL GORDON who is the winner of the Membership Ambassador Raffle for the Month of October. Mr. Gordon, thank you for your referral. Please see John or myself in the Membership Office to receive your prize of a Brunch for two with mimosas or a Golf Foursome.
Best regards, Daniella Tosta Membership Manager

A M E S S A G E FROM GOLF
I
t’s that time of year again, and a hint of a cooler breeze indicates a new season is upon us. It gives me great pleasure to welcome everyone to what promises to be a fun and eventful season. In the next few months, the golf calendar is a busy one so please check out the Calendar of Events 2019-20 online or in the golf shop. We are pleased to introduce Golf Genius, a web based entry process that will make the entering or withdrawing from events easier. Of course, entering by phone or stopping by the golf shop is always available. Sign up early to secure your place in all our golf activities because some events fill up fast. We are extremely excited about the spectacular condition of the golf course and I anticipate increased participation in all events.
Dave Ragan III Head Golf Professional
Our junior golf program continues to rise with record numbers of junior attending the after-school program led by professionals Jamie Rodriguez and David Espinosa. The Junior Interclub season is at the halfway point and DBYCC is currently in 2nd place. The other participating programs are Riviera Country Club, First Tee of Miami and Trump Doral. Remember, as we approach golf season, the amount of play increases, so please be aware of your “Pace of Play.” Let faster players play through and in the interest of all, players must play without delay. In order to make your day more enjoyable please maintain a proper pace and allow faster groups to pass. As always go online to Members First for course availability and tee times or simply call the golf shop for assistance.
Best regards, Dave Ragan III Head Golf Professional

A N O T E FROM TENNIS
A
s summer unwinds, we are pleased to say that we have a very fun and competitive tennis program at the Club. Although it is sad to say goodbye to a wonderful summer, we are happy to say hello to a promising new season.
Pedro Leon Tennis Director
We want to give a big warm welcome to all the USTA and SFWDL captain and cocaptains, as well as the WTA officers that will be working together this season with just one goal in mind; to make tennis at DBYCC better than ever. Fall is here and the tennis competition continues from the green clay of Deering Bay to the hard courts of the US Open. Bianca Andreescu displayed her elegance and Rafael Nadal dominated as the hard court king. Both won the title with well deserved wins against the best players in the world. However, Bianca and Rafa are not the only two making a mark in the wonderful world of tennis. Our USTA, SFWDL teams and the tennis program are off to an excellent start! The ladies have been fighting hard in their respective matches and our tennis program is full of clinics and events. October promises a great month. Our ladies have SFWDL and USTA clinics and matches almost every day of the month. For our men, we offer round robins Tuesday and Thursday nights and the juniors have Pee wee and Juniors clinics Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. In addition to these regular clinics, we also offer private lessons to anyone who is interested in the game of tennis. All our clinics, matches and events have been going great week after week. Courts are constantly in use and reservations are made daily. We would like to thank our members for supporting our tennis program as usual. For clinics, events, merchandise sales and more of the tennis program please keep a look out for flyers and e-blasts or contact the tennis pro shop. We would all like to wish everyone a happy tennis season and we look forward to seeing new and familiar faces alike.
Sincerely, Pedro Leon Director of Tennis

Max’s Selections of the Month
Albada, Macabeo, Calatayud, Spain, 2015 Let’s think outside of Chardonnay. By that I mean, Chardonnay is king in white wine sales in the USA, but every so often it’s refreshing to enjoy something different with more uniqueness. This month we will enjoy a still dry white wine from Calatayud Spain. This wine displays notes of tropical fruits and citrus with a crisp finish. G: $8 | B: $30
Judge Palmer, Cabernet Sauvignon, Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard, Rutherford, Napa Valley, CA, 2013 There are many wines out there with fantastic qualities and there are some that are more than just wines, they are an experience themselves. No one can argue that The Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard produces some of the best fruit Napa Valley has to offer. Enjoy a glass or a bottle of the Judge Palmer and be the jury on this astonishing wine. G: $43 | B: $170 #dbycc #drinksonthebay #dbwinecellar OCTOBER 2019 • 15
