Ad oggi non ho mai nominato EXPO. La rivista FOOD DESIGN è sì nata nel 2015, anno dell’Esposizione Universale milanese, ma non per raccontarla come alcuni hanno ipotizzato inizialmente; i nostri obiettivi erano di tutt’altra natura, come si capisce sfogliando e leggendo le nostre pagine. Certamente però EXPO è stata un’occasione unica e speciale per proporre idee e soluzioni sul tema dell’alimentazione per un futuro sostenibile, tra cui progetti concreti che ci è capitato di recensire quest’anno e sui quali ci siamo soffermati. A chiusura della manifestazione mi sento quindi di dare un dichiarato tributo a questi sei mesi di manifestazione worldwide, tanto apprezzati quanto criticati, perché mai come in questo ultimo periodo l’argomento ‘food’ è stato trattato (e alcune volte mal-trattato). Non voglio dare opinioni o giudizi, ma vorrei condividere la percezione che ho, secondo la quale, la sensibilità su uno dei prodotti più importanti per la nostra sopravvivenza è accresciuta e che il giusto valore, per una questione che è spesso stata data per scontata, almeno per la maggior parte degli abitanti dei Paesi sviluppati, è stato attribuito. Questo stesso effetto. È un inizio, ma, banalmente, se non si parte non si arriva mai da nessuna parte. Anche noi, nel nostro piccolo, abbiamo voluto toccare parte del tema, gettazione e ci auguriamo di aver dimostrato che anche in questo settore l’innovazione fa la differenza rendendo

Buona lettura Up until now, I never mentioned Expo. Food Design magazine was launched in 2015, the year of the Milanese Exhibition, but its purposes were different than expected at the beginning by some people; our objecthe pages of our magazine. But we must anyway admit that EXPO has been a special occasion to propose new ideas and solutions concerning nutrition for a sustainahave reviewed during the year and on which we carefulwould stress the importance of this worldwide show, in never been discusses (and sometimes bashed about), such as in the last times. I don’t mean to make judgements or give personal opinions, just to share my impressions: people are increasingly attentive to the food issue – so important for the outliving of people – and people, especially those living in the developed countries, had partially ignored it. This thing encourages me a lot, and maybe you feel the same. It may be just a beginning, but, merely, if you don’t even start, you won’t arrive anywhere. Our little contribute was to analyze the subject in the aspects to design related, and we really makes the difference, making any action to food related more incisive.

Fai da te, Fai in 3d Silvia Kliti e Fabio Mancini sono i due designer che, quest’anno, hanno aperto il loro studio a Pescara e che, insieme ai quattro architetti di 3ditaly (Marco De Petris, Matteo Battistella, Fabrizio Brandimarte e Mirko Battistella) hanno dato vita al progetto DnA. Il progetto/prodotto si presenta come un manifesto che rende ‘domestici’ i principi della produzione industriale. Riportando all’essenza oggetti della cultura quotidiana italiana, è stata sviluppata una collezione. Una serie di calchi permette all’utente di poter riprodurre illimitatamente qualsiasi pezzo lui scelga: la sintesi della riciclabilità e del riuso, con il solo limite dell’immaginazione. www.3ditaly.it (C.M.)

do-it-yourselF, do in 3d Silvia Kliti and Fabio Mancini are two designers who this year have opened their new studio in Pescara and who, together with four architects of 3rditaly (Marco De Petris, Matteo Battistella, Fabrizio Brandimarte e Mirko Battistella), launched the project DnA. The project/ product is a manifesto that makes the principles of industrial production more folksy. An entire collection was developed by simplifying some items taken from everyday Italian culture. A series of molds allows the user to endlessly reproduce any chosen piece: it is the synthesis of the recycling and reuse, where your imagination is the sole boundary. www.3ditaly.it (C.M.)

arcimboldo trend The art project ‘Cibus in fabula’ (‘The food in the tale’) was developed by Felice Limosani and realized for the Federalimentare (Italian food whom will be ‘remixed’ in a video-installation with digital animations developed by Limosiani. Here we are displaying the picture of the artwork from the Italian artist Arcimboldo, and has reinterpreted his work in a combination of different portraits and heads made of organic elements

Questo speciale alluminio viene successivamente spazzolato e lucidato, rigorosamente a mano. Il colore e la lucentezza del metallo non vengono perse nel tempo perché protette da uno speciale trattamento. endleSS Spiral is a bottle screw designed by Giuseppe Todeschini and developed by Artis high-quality wine accessories. An endless bottle screw, made of an aerospace aluminum alloy characterized by two features: extreme lightness, combined with high endurance and robustness. This special aluminum is later hand-brushed and polished. The color and brightness of this metal last over time since are protected by a special treatment. The screwing-worm is done with a patented, numerical control equipment, with a high-resistance bar made of a steel alloy. To uncork the bottle it is enough to position it onto the bottleneck, and to screw clockwise. The working principle is very intuitive and fast. www.artisitaly.it www.artisblog.it (C.M.)

Cibo di Carta, Carta per il Cibo Comieco ha presentato il volume Paper Design, una analisi approfondita sull’universo ‘carta’ realizzata in collaborazione con il Lab MD (centro universitario di ricerca del Dipartimento di Architettura dell’Università di Ferrara) coordinato dal prof. Alfonso Acocella, con l’obiettivo di esplorare e documentare lo stato dell’arte e la metamorfosi di carta e cartone in diversi ambiti di applicazione contemporanei: dall’interattività alla moda, all’architettura

origami (arte di piegare la carta senza uso di colla), cartapesta e cartotecnica saranno in mostra su una tavola riccamente imbandita da frutta, zucche e melograni in un tripudio di colori e suggestioni visive che vogliono anche essere un omaggio al tema dell’alimentazione portato alla ribalta da Expo. www.comieco.org (C.M.)

paper food – food paper Comieco presented the book “Paper Design” - an indepth analysis on the universe of paper, conceived in cooperation with Lab MD (the research center of the University of Architecture), under the supervision of professor Alfonso Acocella - which aimed at studying and providing documentary evidence to the state of the art and to the metamorphosis of paper and cardboard in various, contemporary applicability areas: from interactivity to fashion, to architecture, to any kind of storytelling to food related, up to the nourishment itself.

Alongside the book, Coieco also presented Paper Food “Mise en place”, a set of paper tools representing food, gathered together in the book “L’altra faccia del macero” (“The other side of the pulping mill”). Here paper objects created with different techniques, among which paperfolding (the so called origami, i.e. the art of folding paper avoiding the use of glue), paper-mache and the paper processing, will be showcased on a sumptuously decked table with fruit, pumpkins and pomegranate, in a richness of colors and visual suggestions, which represent a tribute to the feeding matter brought to prominence by Expo 2015. www.comieco.org (C.M.)
