Though typically associated more with Judaism than Christianity, the status and sacrality of Hebrew has nonetheless been engaged by both religious cultures in often strikingly similar ways. The language has furthermore played an important, if vexed, role in relations between the two. Hebrew between Jews and Christians closely examines this frequently overlooked aspect of Judaism and Christianity's common heritage and mutual competition. A Study of Othering in Medieval Denmark and Sweden

This book explores the portrayal of Jews and Judaism in medieval Danish and Swedish literary and visual culture. Drawing on over 100 manuscripts and incunabula as well as runic inscriptions and religious art, the author describes the various, often contradictory, images ranging from antisemitism and antiJudaism to the elevation of Jews as morally exemplary figures. It includes new editions of 54 East Norse texts with English translations. Middle Ages; Sweden; Denmark; antisemitism; Christian literature; vernacular literature

Four Early Modern Epics. An Annotated Edition

This book offers for the first time annotated editions of four sixteenth-century Yiddish epic poems, all preserved in single copies. Two epics retell the book of Joshua, and two relate the book of Judges. The content of the works is based on Jewish sources, while their style and form were influenced by German epic and chivalric literature. The annotated edition presents the original Old Yiddish texts together with an English introduction. Epic, Hebrew Bible, Old Yiddish
