MEET THE DIAMOND DEALER FROM

THE DIAMOND RESERVE

KAELEIGH TESTWUIDE WRITTEN BY: ELLA ZEILER @ellaaaellaaa PHOTOGRAPHED BY: EMILYANNE PHOTOGRAPHY, @helloemilyannephotography HAIR + MAKEUP: JADE DARROUGH, JADED BEAUTY, @jadedbeauty_

receiving the best of the best. Additionally, most diamond brokers require a non-refundable deposit from their clients when trying out different diamonds to buy. Not the Diamond Reserve! Kaeleigh claims, “I try to get customers educated, hone in on what exactly they want in quality and I bring them diamond options they could want, free of charge.” As a result, every client leaves assured in their purchases or at least in the experience they had with The Diamond Reserve. Kaeleigh also emphasized that all her jewelry is handmade in Denver, not factorymade in Los Angeles or New York. The quality and experience that The Diamond Reserve offers is one-of-a-kind, especially in such an up and coming city like Denver.

Kaeleigh is a self-made girl boss in the diamond industry and her company thrives on the idea that educating customers on diamonds is most important. She has worked hard to re-brand the company that she started working with four years ago and is now owner of. In an industry predominantly run my men, Kaeleigh has broken through the norms and set herself and her brand apart from the others. By only carrying the best of the best, providing customizable jewelry and ensuring a fabulous customer experience, Kaeleigh remains Denver’s top and most trusted diamond broker. The Diamond Reserve focuses on ensuring that every client gets an exclusive, private, and educated experience when looking for a diamond. Kaeleigh’s motivation for wanting to upgrade the diamond industry and become a boss of her own company came from the corruption that tends to occur in the market. Kaeleigh mentions that “the typical jeweler tries to steer the customer away from the education of diamonds.” As a result, she bought the company, with a mission to help boost the knowledge of diamonds for consumer. For The Diamond Reserve, it is most important that the client gets fully educated on the buying process and on the specific diamonds they are looking to purchase, to ensure a completely satisfactory experience. So, what sets Kaeleigh and The Diamond Reserve apart from all the other jewelers and diamond brokers? Well, if you look at larger cities like San Francisco, Chicago and New York, they all have private (not jewelry store chains) jewelers. This was not something that had come to Denver prior to Kaeleigh’s entrance into the industry. Kaeleigh explained that The Diamond Reserve is an appointmentonly company and that they speak with their potential customers in advance in order to know a little bit about what they are looking for before they come in for an appointment. Because The Diamond Reserve’s focus is on educating customers on diamonds, all clients can remain confident in their purchases, knowing they are

When it comes to girl power, Kaeleigh’s got it down. Although there are women in the industry that are jewelers, Kaeleigh remains one of the only female owners and dealers . She understands all aspects of the industry, including the fact that it is highly important that diamond dealers trust her so that she only works with the best in the industry. When asking her how she rose to being the boss of her own company at age 30, Kaeleigh says, “I am a highly motivated individual. I was in touch with the right people and was able to make a substantial diamond buy for someone my age, who hardly worked diamonds before.” Kaeleigh has gained much trust within the diamond industry, allowing her to also gain more leverage with diamonds that she does not own. In other words, trust her enough that they will lend her their diamonds for potential clients. Her trust among the industry is yet another way Kaeleigh has become Denver’s biggest diamond broker and ultimate girl boss. After working with a diamond dealer that believed in her and put a lot of trust in her, Kaeleigh was able to break into the diamond aspect of the jewelry industry. Although she does not work with a lot of women in the fine diamond business, she hopes that will change as the industry is shifting away from only keeping their businesses within the family. Because the diamond business tends to remain within one family and continues to be passed down through each family member, it becomes difficult for people outside of each family to make it in the industry. Kaeleigh hopes to help change this, which has the potential to allow more women into the industry. As for The Diamond Reserve’s future, specifically, Kaeleigh hopes that the business continues to grow. She also plans to continue to educate customers and make them aware that “there is a service out there that is willing to educate you and find you something that is the best fit for your needs.” That service can only be provided to clients at The Diamond Reserve.

STYLIST TIPS WITH HANNAH MOON

THREE WAYS W E G E N F R O A C T

C A N R E M O V E D E R B I A S M O U R DA I LY I O N S

BY KATICA ROY

1

STOP CALLING WOMEN, “GIRLS.” Women aren’t girls and the slang “girls” isn’t the female synonym to “guys”. Girls are under the age of 18, women are 18 and older. Calling women “girls” unconsciously minimizes them to childlike, dependent beings - even infantile. Call them “ladies” or better yet, “women”

2

INCLUDE MEN IN THE GENDER EQUITY CONVERSATION. Gender equity is not a synonym for women’s rights. Women are half of the conversation, men are the other half. Gender inequity impacts men too. 48% of fathers who would like to stay home, but can’t and men and boys are four times more likely to die from suicide. Let’s include men in the conversation. LEARN MORE AT PIPELINEEQUITY.COM @pipelineequity @katicaroy

KATICA’S MEETING ON-THE-GO LOOK: From golf-course to runway, Katica is ready to take-off on any adventure with layered basics that are comfortably structured. KATICA IS WEARING: Trousers, Shirt, Earrings; Melrose & Madison. Duster, Bucket Bag; Bazaar.

3

RECAST YOUR CONVERSATIONS ABOUT GENDER INEQUITY THROUGH THE LENS OF ECONOMICS. Gender inequity is not only a social issue, it’s a massive economic opportunity. In our home state of Colorado we could add $40B to our state’s economy, if we closed the gender equity gap. Gender inequity holds everyone back, change the narrative.

KATICA’S LOOK: Hannah pulled together a monochromatic look that has feminine structure with corporate qualities. Consider your own monochromatic look in rich jewel tones. KATICA IS WEARING: Blouse, Ring; Bazaar. Earrings; Melrose & Madison.

GUIDE

TO I N C L U S I V I T Y

As we become more aware of gender issues, we struggle with how to evolve our traditionally binary language to match our progressively non-binary world. We often don’t realize our vocabulary or what we’re saying may be insensitive. So here’s the scoop on how to evolve our vocabulary to be more inclusive, neutral, and respectful to our neighbors and community.

Have you ever greeted a group of people, as “hey guys?” This is a prime example of gender-specific language that can potentially create barriers, but using terms like “Folks” or “Everyone” when meeting or talking to a group encourages inclusivity and removes assumptions from the conversation. This new way of communicating may seem like space language at first, but with conscious practice and awareness of our actions and words, we can all begin to communicate with Gender Neutral kindness and respect.

Gender Neutral Language It’s not about being politically correct. It’s about demonstrating respect and neutrality for other beings. PHOTOS BY KENDRICK HOWARD, BLUE TALON PHOTOGRAPHY, @bluetalonphotgraphy

MEET ME ON THE CORNER OF

MEET ME ON THE CORNER OF

L O W E L L B LV D . & W E S T 3 2 N D A V E N U E The Highlands is a hip area surrounded by beautiful 1900’s homes and new construction making it a dynamic neighborhood popular with the Denver crowd. There are local restaurants, bars, breweries, and boutique shopping, all in walking distance in this community. The area encourages buying local, getting outdoors, drinking on patios (or indoors), and socializing with friends, neighbors, or meeting new people.

WORDSHOP

3180 W. 32nd. Ave

This paperie is trying to revive the written word through beautiful stationary, gifts, and wedding invites. Packed full of amazing cards for every occasion, stationary, fun gifts, and an amazing wedding section, everything is printed at small studios in the U.S. Remember the joy of written communication with these beautiful paper goods.

Highlands Square is no exception, with about a mile-long stretch of 32nd in West Highlands, this street is worth a morning or afternoon stroll. Standing at the end of the street, you can see the small but vibrant street where there is much of what Colorado has to offer. There’s a wide selection to capture your attention; independent shops and boutiques for pets, clothes, flowers, books and more to explore. And a wide array of food to enjoy from coffee shops, bakeries, and restaurants. It’s the perfect place to enjoy alone, with family, or with friends, as this block truly has a little something that everyone can take pleasure in.

VERT BEAUTY

This large location is full of colorful patterns, unique styles, and fun logo tees. Their large jewelry selection is beautifully curated with earrings, necklaces, and rings to elevate any outfit.

A women’s boutique the offers clothes with a bohemian flare, and cozy items for that CO lifestyle. It’s hard not be inspired by racks of ripped jeans, sequins, sweaters, camis, and oh-so-muchmore. In this store they’re all about the customer experience and help women find and cultivate their personal style.

Your senses will be thrilled by the sights and scents of this store with the gift shop in front and floral shop in back. The floral shop does individual orders, weddings, and large events. The store is filled with botanically-themed gifts and candles, fun paper goods, shiny jewelry, and stunning floral arrangements.

There’s a selection of clothing, jewelry, accessories, sunglasses and undergarments to complete your look. WORDS FROM THE WISE

H OW L O N G H AV E YO U B E E N W E A R I N G V I N TAG E ?

H AT D I S C OV E RY + S T O R AG E

I started collecting vintage in the 1970’s. I would wear 40’s dresses everywhere, work included. It was an inexpensive way to express myself and I loved mixing vintage with modern pieces. I would frequent vintage shops, thrift stores and estate sales, which I do to this day.

I have hats from my hat shop in the 1980’s, and I search for head wear wherever I travel. Many of my vintage hats were discovered at estate sales over the years. I am a fan of milliners, and know countless people who make hats across the world because of Instagram. Discovering head wear is one of my favorite activities and there is no one place that I could recommend. I have hundreds of hats, which reside in my hat room.

HAIR COLOR A N D B E C O M I N G YO U My hair had been colored off and on throughout my adult life. I was a redhead by choice from the age of 50 until the age of 72, when I decided to go natural. That was three years ago! As I watched the silver emerge, I felt as though I was growing into myself. It was another level of self acceptance. An honoring of aging.

LIPSTICK COLOR OF CHOICE Currently I am infatuated by different shades of red.

H AT S W I T H SPECIAL MEANING I have numerous hats with special meaning. I remember the chapeau that accompanied me to special events or sentimental occasions over the past 45 years. I have a special affinity for hats by my friend, Carol Markel, who is a blogger, artist and milliner from NYC. She creates the most beautiful felt hats that are a collage of colors, in the shape of a helmet. I am fearless when it comes to hats!
