Robert Kolenik is one of the representatives of the new generation of Dutch designers who are renowned worldwide for their down to earth mentality, excellence and innovative approach to design. Arch- Aid deals with office and commercial spaces ranging from an area of min 850 sq ft to even 10,000 sq ft and above. When designing offices, the company brand – what it stands for or believes in, its future goals, and even expansions have to be considered – co-operate look, a casual open interactive office space, formal office, space for a professional one or even a glamorous vibrant and spunky workspace; they all have to be brand and design specific. the type of work, needs of the user and hierarchy of the stuff. “We customize the furniture accordingly or sometimes pick and choose from modular once available in the market. Public areas in the offices like canteen, toilets, recreation, lobbies etc., are design specific too. Modern offices today aim at international standard with an energetic, dynamic and contemporary vibe. The high-level executive zones like cabins, conference areas, AV rooms, meeting rooms, lobbies and private zones are done to a tasteful discrete standard. Security is also the main concern here. We have designed not just offices, but product experience centres, boutiques and shopping areas, catering to all budgets and design challenges,” explains Neilesh. this firm offers extensive services in the stream of Architecture, Interiors, Styling and Landscaping. The clients, Anu and Ajay wanted their twenty-year-old home to be revamped into something that was totally out of the box and Heena says, “This building belonged to a different age and style, it was a challenge to convert the house into a space that is liveable and useable for a nuclear family and something that they can enjoy. Our first step was to remove unnecessary brick walls and small windows, creating an open space inviting the outdoors in. The best part of living on a farm is the peace, privacy and the green.”

and tucked behind the kitchen. The designers smartly broke the walls existing between the dining, kitchen and the sitting area and restructured the space to make it larger and more cheerful. Anu loves cooking and the family likes to do things together so the kitchen was the focal point of the design. Another interesting space is the courtyard with a small fountain in the centre, covered with an MS and acrylic roof. This space was resurfaced with Athangudi tiles and opened up, adding a specially engineered retractable roof. Here, with plants growing in large in built pots, this space serves as being an extended family lounge or a sitting

area to relax and have fun. It is also a romantic area at night – Anu often serves dinner to guests here. The first-floor gallery was opened up connecting it with the courtyard. The designers removed the doors and windows, redid the planters and railings to match with the existing handmade stone screens. The spaces were connected – more so since the house was built around the central courtyard. MAY-JUNE 2016 • DESIGN MATRIX 101

Recreational area Ajay and his son Kanav are both musicians and this area houses the music room where the band jams pool table, gym, and pantry. It is a perfect dance floor, stage, yoga and meditation area and the energy here is so good that invariably people gravitate to this old grove that is bordering the 13

Gear Up Going to the gym can be a daily routine to some, for some it is just once in a while and for the rest – it just a dream. We all know the health benefits of going to a gym, but the basic logic is that due to our long day work, we enjoy leaning over the sofa or a couch of our living room and relax , while watching TV and enjoy our meals. If you are the one who likes variety among your workouts, then the gym is the place for you; a wonderful place that allows you to pick and choose from

H C N U LA Visionnaire unveils new collection at Salon Del Mobile 2016 The Italian Luxury brand Visionnaire for the first time showcased two separate spaces at Salon Del Mobile held recently in Milan, Italy. One new collection was presented in a contemporary Penthouse, with an open concept with no walls to separate the vignettes, instead large bookshelves and architectural wall dividers work as sun breakers among the spaces. There are unique final touches such as the “plisse” and the burnished gold as a symbol of timeless elegance. The second collection is all about American Deco style, inspired by classic American writers – F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein, Truman Capote and their legendary scenes in the Hamptons; the interior design showcases bright rooms, playing with white and grey colours. www.visionnaire-home.com
