Alles Ist Architektur In a 1968 publication in BAU magazine, Hans Hollein proclaims that everything which constitutes the physical world can be considered as architecture. Architecture must be freed from buildings, he says. In this thirty page manifesto comprising a selection of images at different scales reminiscent of landscapes or buildings and a short paragraph of text, Hollein invites readers to extend their understanding of architecture. Everything is architecture. In turn, we proclaim that everything is fiction. We believe that the role of the architect, beyond creating spaces to serve society, is to represent, criticize and ultimately, offer alternative fictions to the ones which form the basis of our societies. Everything is fiction. The word ‘fiction’ derives from the Latin verb fictio which means handle, touch, caress, compose, curl, shape, feign, pretend, invent, picture or imagine. One of the preconceptions that we have inherited from the Modern Movement is that fictions draw us away from the more noble quest for truth. This idea of a hegemonic truth has been contradicted in many fields including

Architecture must be freed from buildings, afferma. Nelle trenta pagine di questo manifesto comprendente una selezione di immagini di differente scala che ricordano paesaggi o edifici affiancati da un un breve paragrafo di testo, Hollein invita i lettori a estendere la loro comprensione dell’architettura. Tutto è architettura. In opposizione noi proclamiamo che tutto è finzione. Noi crediamo che il ruolo dell’architetto, oltre a creare spazi a servizio della società, sia rappresentare, criticare e, in definitiva, offrire finzioni alternative a quelle che formano le basi delle nostre società. Tutto è finzione. La parola ‘finzioné deriva dal verbo latino fictio che significa maneggiare, toccare, accarezzare, comporre, curvare, formare, fingere, inventare, raffigurare o immaginare.
