New Western Sydney School to Support Students with Special Needs Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli, last month visited the site of a new school for specific purposes to be built at Glenmore Park, announced in the 2014-15 State Budget. Mr Piccoli inspected the Ridgetop Drive site with the Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies. “The Government has invested a record $14.4 billion for education, training and early childhood education,” Mr Piccoli said. “I am delighted that this includes a commitment to construct a new school in the Glenmore Park area catering for students with intellectual and physical disabilities. Tanya Davies said the Glenmore Park School will be purpose-built for accessibility with covered walkways, covered outdoor learning areas and a special drop-off area for students. “This new school will be an important asset for Glenmore Park and Western Sydney,” Tanya Davies said. “The new school will include special education classrooms catering for a library, a multi-purpose space, administration areas and a hydrotherapy pool.” continued...Pg.8.

Hello July! We have officially crept past the middle of the year! And... it’s TAX time! Coupled with this, is the end of Term 2 for our school friends and the start of a new financial year for our friends in business. Another month passes and I wish I could hit the ‘pause’ button for just a moment. Last month I learned of a dear friend who is facing a health-scare and a long battle ahead. Many of us have friends, family, coworkers and acquaintances facing similar battles. When we face situations like this it brings with it mixed emotions and a shadow of sadness, memories of the past and thoughts of the future. A desire to stop and appreciate all those good times and cherish every single moment that life has to offer. This month we have many stories of hope, delight, inspiration, success and courage for you to revel in. So many wonderful people, moments and events occurring in and around our local community. Anyone that frequents the local Post Office will know it has been an exciting few months, with New Owner Denis and team introducing fresh ideas and a fresh face, read all about it on page 3. It was a huge highlight to include an article about Glenmore Park’s very own Soccer star, Ivan Necevski, you can read all about his latest activities and keep up to date with his ‘Winter Fitness Tips’ on page 7. NAIDOC week celebrations were experienced across many schools recently, Regentville Public School shares some of their highlights on page 10. I know I have said it before, but it rings so very true! There are magical moments in ever day, we just have to take the time to see them. Enjoy your community news.

New Owners For Post Office Glenmore Park has welcomed new faces into the community, with Denis Meogrossi recently taking over ownership of the Post Office at Glenmore Town Centre. Joined by his son Guy, who is the Postal Manager, and Rebecca Pizarro. After many years of serving the community, Christine Wyborn has now left the Post Office and will be sadly missed, not before passing on her wealth of experience to the team. Denis is excited about his new venture in the area, “Glenmore Park has a friendly atmosphere. Having two teenage children myself, it’s great to come into a family oriented community”. Coming from a financial background, Denis looked at buying a post office 5 years ago, before deciding on his new venture at Glenmore Park earlier this year. Denis and the team promise that the high level of customer service will continue; “We enjoy meeting and looking after customers. Every day is different” he said. To help improve the customer experience, the store has been tidied up, with a focus on school products now sold to service the many local schools. A third terminal is likely to be introduced in the lead up to Christmas, keeping the waiting time down so that you can be served quicker. The store is currently open from 8:30am to 5pm, trading 5.5 days a week. There are plans to increase this to 7 days a week prior to Christmas and settling into 6.5 days in the New Year. Drop by and say ‘Hi’ to Denis and the friendly team today.

FAITH – ANGLICAN Rev John Lavender P: 4733 1635 A: Cnr William Howell Dr & Pritchard Pl, Glenmore Park Service Times: Sundays @ 8.30 and 10.15am, 5 and 7pm. Plus activities for adults and young people right throughout the week.

The world of a teenager is a tough world. They exist within, and endure, enormous pressure. Mental health issues are rampant. Suicide, depression and anxiety are serious social problems amongst young people. At Glenmore Park Anglican Church we believe there is an answer. Most people think that teenagers have to grow up before they can make a difference in their world. Most people think that teenagers don’t understand hard work or care for others or responsibility. Most people think that if they do understand these things they certainly won’t care about them or if they do it will be short-lived and half-hearted. At Glenmore Park Anglican Church we believe something different. We believe that Jesus really is the answer to the deepest issues that teenagers face. As well as that we believe that teenagers can and do step up and take responsibility for making a difference in their world. Summit Camp is our week long camp where we take our teenagers away and show them the truths from the Bible. We want to build into them that they don’t have to be what their hurts have made them or what their past has shaped them to be. Jesus really does make a genuine difference in the lives of genuine people. Summit Camp runs in the second week of the July school holidays, from Wednesday July 9 to Sunday July 13. We go away with a group of adult leaders from our church and a whole pile of teenagers, we head down south and spend time having fun.

We want them to be able to stop and unwind. We want them to depressurize and be able to be themselves. We spend time looking at what God has said in the Bible and how Jesus isn’t just a great bloke but that he is also absolutely relevant to teenagers. Your teenagers would be more than welcome to come and we would love to have them. The world of a teenager is a tough world. Summit Camp exists to help our teenagers be tougher than the world by loving the world like Jesus does. Craig Hamilton - Assistant Minister (In John Lavender’s absence)

Pope Francis: A Breath of Fresh Air It has been almost sixteen months now since Argentinian Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected Pope, head of the Catholic Church. This follows the resignation of the previous pontiff, Pope Benedict XVI, in February 2013. It is fair to say that Pope Francis has made a huge impact in the short time he has been Pope. Calling him a breath of fresh air is, if anything, an understatement! By choosing the name Francis, the newly-elected Pope made it clear from the outset that he was going to approach the papacy in a new way. He chose Francis to show an affiliation with the poor and underprivileged, a concern he has had at least since his time as Archbishop of Buenos Aires, if not earlier as head of the Jesuit order in his home country. St Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) is one of the most loved saints in the Church due to his choice, despite his privileged upbringing, to live a life of poverty in sympathy with society’s most marginalised and, most importantly, in imitation of Jesus Christ. Pope Francis has made concern for the poor and marginalised a theme of his preaching, emphasising that Christians ought to revisit the life of Jesus and make his concerns our own. Jesus loved all people but aligned himself with those on the fringes, especially women, the poor and the sick. Pope Francis perhaps illustrated this best very early in his papacy on Holy Thursday 2013. In the Catholic tradition, during the Mass on Holy Thursday, the Thursday immediately prior to Easter Sunday, we recall Jesus washing the feet of his disciples at the Last Supper as an example to them of how they should always seek to offer loving service to all they meet. Traditionally the Pope has washed the feet of twelve priests but Pope Francis caught the attention of a lot of Catholics when he went to a detention facility in Rome and washed and kissed the feet of ten male and two female juvenile offenders, not all Catholic, aged from 14 to 21, telling them the ritual of foot washing is a sign that he is at their service. Of course, this is but one example of Pope Francis’s new approach to the papacy. He has chosen to reject a lot of the pomp and ceremony that generally surrounds any celebration conducted by the Pope, choosing instead simplicity and a more understated approach. It would be wrong however, to assume that his approach is superficial and that all this is for mere show. Pope Francis has made a commitment to structural reform in

the Church in order to ensure that the Catholic Church remains relevant and truly reaches out to people and offers them loving service, as Christ has called the baptised to do. With Pope Francis, it really is a case of “watch this space! Our parish is a vibrant and active Christian community. If you would like to join us, particularly those who may not attend our Masses regularly or new residents in the area, we would love to welcome you here as part of our friendly, inclusive and familyoriented community. Blessings and prayers, Fr Robert Riedling Parish Priest

Bus Crash Driver Charged Police have charged the driver of a bus that crashed into two houses at Glenmore Park last month. About 4pm on Sunday, 15th June 2014, emergency services were called to houses on Kukundi Drive. Upon arrival, police located a bus that had crashed into the side of two houses. Officers have been told the 56-year-old male driver was travelling west on Kukundi Drive when the vehicle left the roadway and hit two fences before crashing into the house. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the bus, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Nepean Hospital for treatment. A 35 year-old man, a 29 year-old woman, three-year-old boy and two girls aged five and nine were not hurt as a result of the crash. The second house was unoccupied at the time of the crash. Police from Penrith Local Area Command immediately commenced their investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Investigators spoke with a 56-year-old man at a St Clair residence. The man was later charged with drive in manner dangerous. He was issued with Future Court Attendance Notice to appear at Penrith Local Court on Wednesday 30 July 2014. Investigators have not ruled out laying further charges in relation to this matter.

Fans Kick Pringoooals With Help From Sydney FC In celebration of the beautiful game, Pringles Facebook fans will be kicking goals of their own in a unique experience both online and off. With the support of Sydney FC, Pringles has created an application for its 1 million strong Facebook community so that die-hard football enthusiasts and part-time fans alike can attempt to score their own ‘Pringoooals’. Launched on June 27, the Facebook app will run with special appearances from the skilled goalkeepers of Sydney FC. Turning pro, Facebook strikers can select their desired level of spin and speed to be translated into a shot on goal defended by the application itself, or by Vedran Jenjetovic, Anthony Bouzanis and Glenmore Park’s own, Ivan Necevski during the ‘Power Hour’ each night. Via a live stream, Pringles Facebook fans can watch the goalkeepers being put through their paces by the community. The app will also be brought to life when Vedran Janjetovic from Sydney FC invades the football heartland of Western Sydney, Blacktown. Cutting the Wanderers’ grass, fans can test their luck against the Sydney FC goalkeeper, as well as online competitors. Over the course of July 11 to July 12, fans can have a go defending against shots fired via the app. Those who fancy themselves skilled footballers can even try their luck against Sydney FC goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic during the ‘Power Hour’. From 9:30 to 10:30am on July 12, Janjetovic will take his place in goal, defending shots fired by the public. When: July 11 – July 12 Where: Blacktown Village Oval Corner of Flushcombe Rd and Civic Lane, Blacktown Time: 9:30am – 4:30pm Power Hour: July 12, 9:30 – 10:30am After working up a sweat, fans will be glad to learn all ‘Pringoooals’ and shots defended will be rewarded with a can of Pringles. FAITH - FOOTHILLS VINEYARD CHURCH Pastor Paul Marshall W: www.fvc.org.au Sunday Service Time: 9:30am @ Regentville Public School

Soul Matters Most westerners have bought into the idea that to be happy and to live well we must push to be ‘up there’ amongst the noticed, the wealthy, the celebrated, and those doing special things. But the Bible teaches that the stuff that we associate with ‘up there’ is not the sum of our life at all. In fact, living well is about not needing to be ‘up there’ – whether you are noticed or not, and whether you have much or little. This is because what detracts from life is the stress and lack of peace we feel when we are constantly waiting to be ‘up there’. Besides, most of us live our life ‘down here’ in Ordinary Land, and when success comes, it can leave us discontented. Think about: politicians who are privileged to lead but cheat to get more; or successful sportspeople who struggle when their playing time is up because they weren’t prepared for life ‘down here’. The curse of the way westerners live life is that it creates the constant feeling of being discontent with where we are. Of course we should use our gifts, be creative and enterprising, and achieve things - this is part of the grace and spice of life. These are special things that bless our soul. But if we are unhappy unless we are ‘up there’, we have missed something. Jesus Christ healed powerfully, was noticed, revolutionised the world, and saved humanity by defeating the power of sin (to bridge a way to God for us) and death (to extend human life beyond physical death). But he didn’t neurotically need to do so

for the well-being of his soul. A wise Christian writer summed it up this way: “The highest spiritual development is to be ‘ordinary’….. to become simply and naturally ourselves - what we would be if society didn’t distort us with greed or ambition, lust or desperate want.” In other words, living well is about being able to find joy and contentment ‘down here’ in the midst of the ordinary rather than constantly waiting to be “up there” in the realm of the special. It is to be ourselves – nothing more, nothing less. We may be graced to go ‘up there’ for a time, but this grace will be celebrated and have true meaning (and therefore joy) ‘down here’ amongst those we live with and love - amongst kids, school routines, working, playing, hanging out with friends, and loving our spouse. We never really live beyond the ‘down here’ at all, and so to live well and be happy we must discover the beauty and wonder of the God-given rhythms of our ordinary lives. Jesus Christ invites us to be his apprentices, learning how to live life well and with God. Pastor Paul Marshall

New Western Sydney School to Support Students with Special Needs Mr Piccoli said the 2014-15 Budget includes over $30 million to upgrade facilities and create more places at Schools for Specific Purposes, including a major upgrade of Lucas Gardens School for Specific Purposes in Sydney’s Inner West. “The Budget provides spending of $10.7 billion on government schools, including $347 million for school maintenance. In addition, $400 million will be spent on capital works upgrading and providing new school facilities. “New school projects as part of this Budget will deliver an additional 256 new permanent classrooms. Since 2011, 694 new permanent classrooms have been announced, which reduce the need for demountables in our schools.”

Car Hits House Fence Regentville A family were fortunately not injured after a car hit their Regentville home last month. About 9.40pm on 21 June 2014, a white Holden Commodore sedan was travelling on Mulgoa Road. The car, which had red P-plates on it, was negotiating a roundabout on the Glenmore Parkway and had lost control. The car crossed into Gibbes Road, hitting a fence and a granny flat at the rear of a Loftus Street house. There were no reports of injury. . The driver, an 18-year-old man and sole occupant of the car, is expected to be issued an infringement notice.

Bus Wheels Keep Rolling ‘Jubilation all round’ was how Assistant Principal Glen Trefoni of McCarthy Catholic College described the new bus routes linking the school with Glenmore Park families. Previously students needed to disembark at Penrith Railway Station and wait for connecting buses to McCarthy. The college had begun dispatching teachers to the railway station to supervise students’ safety and control congestion. Now students remain on the buses and disembark directly at McCarthy. School buses 4055, 4567, 4507 and bus routes 797 and 799 are the dedicated services. Over 150 Glenmore Park families benefit from the new service and are grateful to Tanya Davies MP and Stuart Ayres MP for their support and intervention. Koby Rundle of Year 7 commented ‘Now I don’t get pushed and shoved around getting on the next bus at the station’. Lochlan Trimboli of Year 8 said ‘It seems a faster ride and I can talk with my friends without shouting and everyone seems friendlier’. However, for Year 7 Jasmine Sultana, it was “Just a whole lot nicer travelling to school!’. Ms Meddows, Principal of McCarthy Catholic College, summed up the situation: ‘The new bus arrangement is safer and smoother for students to travel from Glenmore Park to the college’.

Regentville Public School Celebrates NAIDOC Week Aboriginal languages in Australia, but also sang beautifully led by Mrs Kim Scott, our music teacher. Our kindergarten students entertained us with their singing and dancing to ’Wheels on the Holden’ and ’Black, Red and Yellow’ produced by Aunty Wendy’s Mob with a very supportive crowd of parents, staff and students. In the ultimate finale to the celebrations, the students created an Aboriginal flag with students in traditional colours and trimmed with the blue, green and white of the Torres Strait Island national flag. Organising teachers Mrs Rachel Sellen, Ms Sharon Cavaghan and their student representatives presented a wonderful celebration and assembly acknowledging Australia’s traditional culture and heritage. In the exciting final days of this school term, Regentville Public School celebrated NAIDOC week with great enthusiasm. Students wore an array of colours representing the traditional colours of both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their culture. The day incorporated a range of learning opportunities with a focus on Literacy activities, reading and writing their own Dreamtime stories and the design of various forms of Aboriginal art. The students demonstrated great competencies incorporating their ICT skills to create digital artworks with traditional symbols and art techniques integrating 21st Century learning. Throughout the term, the students learnt to sing: Kutju Australia which translates Australia’s national anthem from English to Luritja (a Central Australian Aboriginal language). The students not only improved their knowledge and awareness of

PARENTS CORNER Article by: Narelle Smith (Family Worker) NepeanStudent-Wellbeing Worker – Mulgoa Public School Nepean Community & Neighbourhood Services Ph: 0409 986 121 Centre: 4721 8520 Blog: http://handsheartsminds.wordpress.com

If you have been reading this column for a while, you will have gathered by now that I love Descriptive Praise as a parenting strategy. That is, not saying “good boy/girlâ€? or “good job/workâ€? when your child has done something well, but to actually describe what you like about what he or she did and why. And if you have been using descriptive praise you know how effective it can be. BUT‌ If you are also using the words “naughtyâ€? and “badâ€? when describing your child’s mistaken behaviour, you may find that the descriptive praise doesn’t work so well. Why? Because words are powerful. If you use “naughtyâ€? and “badâ€? your child will internalise those words, and he or she will prove just how naughty and bad he or she can be! I have consulted with some parents over the past few months who have come to me asking why their kids are spiralling into increasingly negative behaviour to the point where they are uncontrollable, even though the parents have been using descriptive praise. In each of these cases the parents have been using “naughtyâ€? and “badâ€? a lot. I have said this so many times talking to parents over the past few months it bears repeating here‌ REMOVE “NAUGHTYâ€? AND “BADâ€? FROM YOUR VOCABULARY WHEN DESCRIBING YOUR CHILDâ€?S BEHAVIOUR!!!! And get rid of that damned “naughtyâ€? chair or corner. Call it a “chill outâ€? or “calm downâ€? or “quiet timeâ€? place. When you use these very powerful and nasty words on your child and you use them often, you are digging a pit of shame for him so deep that it may take a lifetime for him to crawl out of it. Shame during childhood can lead to mental health problems during adolescence and adulthood. Think about it – if someone close to you calls you ugly or stupid often enough you start to believe it. In fact, if you are sharing your home with an adult who says these things to you it is domestic violence (emotional abuse). So, when is it ever OK to use these words with the little people whom we are supposed to be guiding, educating, caring for, nurturing, growing up, loving? Never. The next question from parents is “what do I say instead?â€? Tell a child ‘what to do’ rather than ‘what not to do’. Always keep it positive. For example, “stand still while I fix your collarâ€? and then follow-up with descriptive praise “thank you for staying still, it was so helpful, and it gets it done quicklyâ€?. Paying attention to the positive encourages more positive behaviour from your child. And if your child has had some kind of mistaken behaviour, instead of focussing on who she is (for example, clumsy, careless), focus on what she did (for example, broke the window) and with her assistance work out what she can do next time (for example, kick the ball towards the fence). To find out more about positive parenting I highly recommend that you do Triple P (Positive Parenting Program). It’s fabulous!

Ready Steady GO! Kids In a day and age where technology is so dominant in our children’s lives, it is important to remember that engaging in different sports early in childhood may help children create that balance between active and sedentary activities later in life. Ready Steady Go Kids is a multi-sport program covering ten different sports, delivered in a fun, structured, safe, inclusive and non-competitive environment. The program specializes in small classes with a ratio of one coach to six children. Encouraging children to be playing with balls, learning the associated skills related to a sport and trying new challenges is so important. The introduction of sport skills at an early age is both rewarding and beneficial. The skills learnt in preparation for primary school based sports, an improved self confidence, an ability to grow positive relationships within sports, such as sharing/cheering on others, watching and learning. There is a focus on coordination as well as fine and gross motor skills. Why choose one sport? When your child can do Golf, T-Ball, Tennis, AFL, Athletics, Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, Cricket and Basketball in one program. Located at Glenmore Park Youth & Community Centre (Tues & Fri), Penrith Ripples “Quarterdeck” (Mon), Samuel Terry Primary School (Sat). Ready Steady Go Kids has FREE trials during the term for children aged 2.5 - 6 years old. To book a trial call 1300 767 982. I hope to see you and your little one in class real soon. Problem Gambling May Run in Families In a new study, University of Iowa (UI) investigators found that pathological (problem) gambling runs in families, with firstdegree relatives of problem gamblers eight times more likely to develop this problem in their lifetime than relatives of people without pathological gambling. Problem gambling — gambling that is serious enough to disrupt someone’s life, work, and relationships is a major public health problem that affects between 0.5 and 1.5 per cent of adults at some point during their lives. Studies clearly shows that problem gambling runs in families at a rate higher than for many other behavioural and psychiatric disorders. Family members and health care providers should be alerted to the fact that if they see someone they love with problem gambling habits, that person is highly likely to have a close relative with similar or the same problem. They should probably encourage the person to let their relatives know that help is available. The Gambling Help Line Number is 1800 858 858. For the full article go to: www.psychcentral.com

Keeping Score Your Credit File is one of your most important financial assets. Safeguarding this file is critical to your ability to open and even keep credit accounts. In Australia we have two main credit reporting agencies, Veda Advantage and Dunn & Bradstreet. Each maintain credit files which contain information including Credit Applications, Overdue Accounts, Payment Defaults, Clearouts, Debt Agreements and Bankruptcies. Previously, apart from credit applications only negative credit activity was recorded. For example, if you were 60 days late paying your credit card, this would be deemed as a default and may have been recorded on your Credit File. Recently though Credit Scoring has been introduced which includes information about how all of your credit facilities are performing. Credit scoring is a mathematical assessment of the data included in your credit report and is calculated using a number of complex formulas. The score indicates the likelihood of your defaulting within the next 24 months. Veda Advantage scores range from 1 to 1,200. The higher the score the lower the risk. A score of around 550 will indicate that you are an average risk. With Credit Scoring, paying your credit card or phone bill as little as 5 days late will have a negative impact on your Credit Score and may prevent you from successfully getting credit. If you would like more information about Credit Scoring, send us an email at admin@gad.com.au or call us on 4733 8592.

Over 80% of Home Sites in New Mulgoa Rise Land Release Sold in Two Weeks Over 80 percent of the new home sites recently released on Pinnacle Ridge, one of the highest points in Mulgoa Rise estate, sold within two weeks, with only five blocks remaining. Another land release is planned in the next few months. The home sites in this release range in size from 450sq.m to 730sq.m, and most enjoy district or Blue Mountains’ views. Some of the larger lots adjoin and look out on a bushland corridor offering home owners a unique vista over a bushland reserve. There has been strong enquiry and demand from homebuyers looking for a quality block in this family-friendly neighbourhood, with almost all of the 310 home sites released to date already sold. General Manager of Mulpha Norwest, Tim Spencer, said this latest release provided a limited opportunity to secure a prestige home site, most with picturesque district views or views to the Blue Mountains. “Pinnacle Ridge offers some of the best land to be released in Mulgoa Rise with a wide range of block sizes, most with great views, and some with a unique outlook onto a bushland reserve,” Mr Spencer said. A neighbourhood park will also be situated in close proximity to this land release. Mulgoa Rise will comprise more than 600 homes and, when complete, will offer a contemporary village lifestyle with all the conveniences of nearby town amenities. Nestled at the foothills of

the Blue Mountains, Mulgoa Rise will have its own sporting field and park on the estate, with golf courses, lakes and rivers located nearby. This, together with walkways connecting the estate to Mulgoa Nature Reserve, will appeal to families looking to enjoy a healthy, outdoor lifestyle. With proposed neighbourhood shops and proposed school adjacent to the estate, Mulgoa Rise is also just minutes away from Glenmore Park shopping centre, and a 10 minute drive to Westfield Penrith Plaza shopping centre with its abundance of restaurants, cafés, shopping and entertainment. The nearest train station, with direct links to the city, is a short 10 minute drive away. There is also a good selection of kindergartens, preschool and childcare centres, as well as public and private schools located nearby. Mulgoa Rise is being developed by Mulpha Norwest, developers of the international award-winning Norwest Business Park; the highly acclaimed Bella Vista Waters residential estate; Sanctuary Cove on the Gold Coast; Hayman Island and the Intercontinental Hotel. For further information on new home sites at Mulgoa Rise, contact Jeff Webb on 1300 272 300 or 0410 438 038 or visit www. mulgoarise.com.au. HEALTH MATTERS PARENTS CORNER

Pamper Your Skin Did you know the skin is the largest organ of the body, yet it is the one which we generally give the least thought to when it comes to our health. Not only does the skin hold us together, it also regulates body temperature, acts as a blood reservoir, protects against some forms of bacteria and viruses, allows us to experience various sensations eg warmth, coolness, touch, pressure, vibration & pain, aids in excretion and absorption of various substances, aids in the synthesis of Vitamin D and allows transdermal drug administration. All good reasons to look after your skin. The best way to do this is Remain hydrated by drinking healthy water – make wise choices – even showering in chemical laden water can have an effect on your skin and your health. Limit sun exposure – particularly in summer to prevent skin cancers etc. Time spent in the early morning and late afternoon is preferable to the middle of the day. Wear protective clothing – to protect from sun and wind. Moisturise regularly – summer or winter your skin can dry out. You need to replenish the moisture with effective moisturisers. Choose these wisely. Read the label and check the ingredients which are listed in order of concentration. Some may be classed as potentially harmful and can be absorbed transdermally. They may also irritate existing skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. Pamper your skin – look after your health. The choice is yours!

Who is Glenmore Park Town Centre’s Favourite Retailer for 2014? The battle to be awarded the title of “2014 Favourite Retailer” and a $500 pre-paid VISA card starts tomorrow between Glenmore Park Town Centre’s specialty retailers, plus customers can share in $2,000 worth of Glenmore Park Town Centre gift cards just by shopping at their favourite retailer. For every $10 spent at their favourite specialty retailer, customers must complete the DL entry forms available at retailers and drop into the barrel located in centre court for the chance to win one of two $500 Glenmore Park Town Centre gift cards. If a customer spends $10 or more - three times at the same retailer they go into the draw to win a $1,000 Glenmore Park Town Centre gift card. There is a separate card available for that. RHC Retail Group Marketing Manager, Ms Natalie Philp, said the loyalty campaign was just as much about the Glenmore Park Town Centre specialty retailers, not just the customers. “In 2013, Michel’s Patisserie won the gong in the Loyalty Campaign, and this year’s competition promises to be just as fierce,” Ms Philp said. “Every customer entry in the barrel will count as one vote for the retailer nominated on the form. Customers can also vote on Glenmore Park Town Centre’s facebook page, which will contribute to the final number of votes. “The retailer with the most votes at the end of the campaign on 5 August will win a $500 pre-paid VISA card and the title of Glenmore Park Town Centre’s favourite retailer. “This will be a really fun campaign to encourage the retailers to have a bit of healthy competition, and customers to enjoy their shopping experience at Glenmore Park Town Centre, as well as be rewarded for their everyday shopping. Woolworths and some exclusions apply.” Glenmore Park Town Centre is located at 1 Town Terrace, Glenmore Park and entry forms can be collected at any Glenmore Park Town Centre specialty retailer. Further information and T&C’s can be found on Glenmore Park Town Centre’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/ glenmoreparktowncentre.

KEEPING FIT WITH RJ Rj Tierney (owner) Pure Fitness Penrith Ph: 4732 2884 rj@purefitness.net.au www.purefitness.net.au

Are These Foods Making you Fat? Nutrition can be confusing. Here are 5 foods that could be stopping you from reaching and maintaining optimum health. 1. Anything labelled ‘Low Fat’ should be avoided. When fat is removed from foods, a whole load of other ‘junk’ is added to compensate for the lack of flavour. 2. Breakfast Cereals can be high in sugar and refined carbohydrates. Try to choose a high protein option for breakfast (like eggs) but if you must have cereal, opt for rolled oats or look for cereal that doesn’t include sugar or highly refined grains. 3. Diet Soft Drinks Once again, just because something is low in fat, doesn’t make it healthy. Try staying away from soft drinks and replace with still or sparkling water infused with lime and lemon. 4. Fruit Juices are high in sugar, but have no fibre and sometimes don’t actually contain any real fruit! Eat whole fruit where you can, or try mixing a piece of whole fruit with green vegetables to make your own green smoothies. 5. Processed ‘Gluten Free’ or ‘Organic Foods’ can still contain high amounts of sugar. Stay away from any processed foods and choose ‘whole foods’ with single ingredients where you can. Real food is the key to optimum health! Happy Training! Rj Pure Fitness
