environmentally friendly options,” Mrs Davies said.
The NRA has launched a free hotline (1800 844 946) to offer businesses and community organisations advice on the single-use plastic bans.

r Image/Article: Tanya Davies MPWollondilly community groups can apply for $3,000 grants for projects supporting local veterans or boosting awareness of their role in Australia’s military history.
In this position, you will prospect for new customers by cold calling, using leads, or other means of generating interest from potential customers. Developing and maintaining relationships with current customers across several publications both in an inbound and outbound capacity is critical.
Businesses in the Mulgoa electorate are being supported to get ready for the 1 November single-use plastic ban, thanks to a massive retailer education campaign launched by the NSW Government.
Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies said to ensure small businesses are ready for the changes this year, the NSW Government engaged the National Retail Association (NRA) to deliver a comprehensive retailer education campaign.
On behalf of the NSW Government, the NRA has already delivered support to more than 23,000 businesses and retailers, visited more than 560 retail precincts around the state, and delivered information in 15 different languages.
“Thanks to this campaign, local businesses are on the front foot, and some are already making the change to more environmentally friendly products,” Mrs Davies said.
“We farewelled single-use plastic shopping bags in June and now it’s goodbye to single-use plastic straws, plates, cutlery and a whole lot more as we move NSW towards a circular economy and a more sustainable future.”
Getting rid of single-use plastic items will make a huge difference to the environment. Single-use plastic items and packaging make up 60 per cent of all litter in NSW, and the bans will prevent almost 2.7 billion items of plastic litter from entering the environment in NSW over the next 20 years.
From November, the NSW Government is banning single-use items including:
• plastic straws, stirrers, cutlery, plates, bowls and cotton buds
• food ware and cups made from expanded polystyrene
• rinse-off personal care products containing plastic microbeads.
This comes after lightweight single-use plastic bags were banned in NSW from 1 June.
“These single-use plastic bans are just the beginning of a major move away from plastic in NSW, and we’re making sure businesses have the information they need to stop using plastics and start using
Nathaniel Smith MP, Member for Wollondilly, said applications are now open for the $100,000 Anzac Community Grants Program and urged locals to apply.
“Veterans past and present served to keep us safe, and this is a great chance to recognise their sacrifices while enriching our communities,” Mr Smith said.
“Maybe it’s restoring a medals’ display cabinet, creating an interactive remembrance garden or researching a local veteran; let’s see what our community ideas and needs are.”
Grants cover four categories: local community historical research and education; preservation or display of war memorabilia; public commemorative events; and support to members of the NSW veteran community.
Applications are open to individuals and not-for-profit organisations, including local government authorities, non-government organisations, ex-service organisations and educational institutions.
Just over 50 projects were selected in 2021, including the purchase of memorabilia cabinets, the research of local veterans and commemorative murals.
Minister for Transport, Veterans and Western Sydney David Elliott announced an increase to funding available to local community groups to apply for a grant worth up to $3,000.
“The NSW Government has increased funding available to honour former and current serving personnel. I encourage anyone who is interested in the service and sacrifice of veterans in New South Wales to apply for an Anzac Community Grant.” Mr Elliott said.
“We’re looking for projects that honour and support our veterans and those who currently serve and broaden our understanding of their military efforts and peacekeeping contributions. This is an opportunity to get projects off the ground, at a local community level across the entire State.”
Applications can be submitted online until 5 pm on 11 November 2022: www. veterans.nsw.gov.au/grants

Mulgoa’s Josh Anderson has been crowned the 2022 Aussie Racing Cars Champion, wrapping up the championship in Victoria recently.
Winning the championship at Sandown in Melbourne on the weekend of August 19 to 21, Josh is over the moon to win his first championship at the age of just 22.
“It’s an awesome feeling to win a national category. Aussie Racing Cars is one of the longest running national categories in Australian motorsport, in it’s 23rd year of competition. To add my name to the list of champions is great” said Josh to the Mulgoa Valley Gazette.
The secret to Josh’s success on the track this year has been to drive smart.
“I pride myself on driving smart and knowing when to be aggressive. The Aussie Racing Cars point system rewards consistency, so that’s been the key. A highlight was winning both the Saturday races at Mount Panorama, where Aussie Racing Cars were supporting the Bathurst 12 Hour, with some pretty exciting last lap moves!” he reflected.
Josh first signed with Aussie Racing Cars in 2017. His stepfather previously raced in the category, making it a family affair.
“I love racing and am lucky enough to have a family that’s been involved in the sport for a long time. My stepfather, Darren Chamberlin competed in Aussie Racing Cars for many years, and I have lots of good memories of helping him out at racetracks as a kid. I have been incredibly lucky to be able to compete in Aussie Racing Cars, and while we have sponsorship, my family has made many sacrifices to allow me to go racing” Josh stated.
He is currently looking at his motorsport goals for the future, “We’re looking at stepping up the motorsport ladder in 2023. I’d love to move into a category like the Super 3 Series, which is essentially for old V8 Supercars that no longer race in the main series. My dream is to race in the Bathurst 1000, and that’s a big step in achieving that goal. Although, it is important to be realistic, as the commercial realities of motor racing mean that finding that sponsorship is essential”
Josh is appreciative for the support he has received in 2022.
“I’d like to thank CoolDrive Auto Parts, who have helped me out immensely this year. Perenso, my family, Brett McElroy and his partner Alana who came to every round this year helping us to prepare the race car” he ended.

Scott Rutkowski is a proud local. His food reviews have been a big hit online and the number of his supporters continues to grow.
He has been a ‘foodie’ for over 20 years since he was in his late teens.
“I’m passionate about food and enjoy going out and being social. My reviews are from a non-visual perspective, as I have no vision at all and have been blind since birth. NDIS have helped through providing support workers with getting out and about. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to get out as often. The community has always been there for me. I see this as a way to give back to the community” he said.
Scott’s food reviews for Western Sydney Dining Out and About have been popular with audiences. Having already visited 30-40 local cafes and restaurants over the years, his knowledge and experience is amazing.
“I enjoy the whole experience of dining out. The atmosphere. The noise, as long as it’s not too loud. The people that you’re with. Good customer service that brings you back again. And of course, the food” Scott replied.
So, what is Scott’s favourite dish you may ask?
“That’s a hard question. If I had to choose, it would be a combination of wraps, sushi, seafood, or burgers. Although, I do have a sesame allergy” he stated.
Check out Scott’s food review in this edition.

On Sunday 30 October 2022, trumpet maestro James Morrison will visit Penrith for one monumental afternoon of music.
Morrison said he is excited to return to Penrith after an absence of nearly 10 years.
“I have performed in concert venues and theatres throughout the world, but this will be my very first on the edge of a lake and what better place than the Sydney International Regatta Centre,” Mr Morrison said.
Joining Morrison on stage will be his quartet including sons William on guitar, and Harry on double bass, and Patrick Danao on drums.
Together, the James Morrison Quartet have taken the international music scene by storm, performing at major festivals such as BBC Proms with superstar Dianne Reeves, Melbourne International Jazz Festival with Patti Austin, and performing at famous jazz venues including Ronnie Scott's in London.
In what he is describing as an intimate afternoon of jazz, Mr Morrison's show will comprise of classic jazz based on styles and acts such as Louis Armstrong, Bosso Nova, Stan Getz, Be-Bop and much more.
“I want everyone to enjoy the performance” he said.
“Firstly, I'm not there to educate anyone about jazz; I really love the music, and what it does and how it makes me feel and I want everyone to feel that, and we can all enjoy it together.”
When asked about what audiences can expect, Mr Morrison replied “Expect to have a good time.”
Although COVID restrictions in recent years has put a pause on touring, Mr Morrison recently returned from a tour of Europe saying it’s great to be on the road again making music.
In addition to performing, Mr Morrison spends much of his time in education conducting master classes and workshops sharing his love and knowledge for music education.
As well as performing with his quartet Morrison will join the students and staff of St Pauls Grammar and Nepean High for special performances in the early afternoon.
“The students are putting a lot of energy into preparing their pieces and I am looking forward to working with them and sharing the stage for an afternoon of fantastic entertainment.”

Warragamba Silverdale Neighbourhood Centre PresentsEndurance. Faithful. Astute. These are three common ways people have described Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Endurance because her reign was longer than any other British monarch. It wasn’t just the gift of age she possessed, but the commitment to keep serving her country. This leads to the second way people have described QEII - faithful. She had an enormous sense of duty: duty to her nation, to her family and to the monarchy itself. Thirdly, many of those who reported to her spoke of her astute nature. This was demonstrated in the way she was always across the issues to be discussed. No matter how complex, she always had a good grasp of the issues. Today however, I want to mention one more way of describing QEII-devoted.
Many have spoken of her deep devotion to God. She rarely spoke of this before the year 2000, but since then she has been more open about it. She was able to defend the faith because she was a woman of faith. Despite increasing secularism, she spoke openly of her faith in Christ and the place of religion in our modern world. In her Silver Jubilee speech in 1977 she said, “When I was 21, I pledged my life to the service of our people and asked for God’s help to make that vow. Although that vow was made in my salad days, when I was green in judgment, I do not regret or retract one word of it”.
Most people have lower back pain at some point in their lives. Often it disappears after mild anti-inflammatory medication, a little rest, or light massage. But sometimes it stays around.
This chronic (long lasting) form of back pain at best can be an annoying ache that’s a bit better when you warm up, but always there in the background. At worst, it can be a constant debilitating pain. Often pain radiates down into the buttock and legs (known as sciatica) or leads to strange, tingling or even loss of feeling down an affected leg, sometimes to the tips of the toes. This type of chronic back problem can stop you working, playing, sleeping, eating, thinking, and can leave you frustrated especially when you can’t get treatment to resolve the issue.
There are many individual causes that can lead to chronic back pain but (in most instances) one major factor sustains the cycle of pain. Here’s how it happens: Often after simple overuse or other injury, the back muscles in the affected area shorten (lock in) and literally swell with toxin-filled fluids that have leaked from injured cells and cause the muscles and nerves in the affected area to become inflamed and painful. The swelling reduces blood and lymph flow and this locks in the cycle of inflammation. Though exercise often brings temporary relief, in some cases it may worsen the problem long-term.
In most cases the solution is quite simple. Remove the inflammatory fluid and literally lengthen the affected back muscles so that tissue function normalises, and the spine adopts at normal position. When we do this, in most cases chronic back
pain goes completely, even in many long-standing cases. The same is true for many chronic shoulder and knee complaints. you’d like to know more, call Andreas 0418 166269. www.pexels.com

Luddenham Medical CentreWe live in an epidemic of violence against women, with one woman losing her life at the hands of a male partner or expartner every week in Australia. Violence starts with disrespect. When we excuse disrespect, it can escalate to aggression and abuse. Studies show that disrespectful attitudes take root in childhood. As parents, you can help to break this cycle.
Disrespect looks like pressuring someone to do something they don’t want to do or treating someone as though they are not as important as you. Disrespect can be based on differences between people such as gender, sexuality, skin colour, cultural heritage, age, disability, or religion.
Some things adults say unintentionally teach children that disrespect is OK in certain situations. Self-reflection is the first step. It is helpful to be aware of common excuses made for aggressive or disrespectful behaviour in boys:
• Downplaying the behaviour, e.g. “it wasn’t that bad”, “he was just joking”
• Accepting aggression as part of being a boy, e.g. “boys will be boys”
• Blaming girls for being treated with disrespect, e.g. “it takes two to tango”
Be prepared to talk to boys about respect early and often. Everyday situations are opportune moments for life-changing conversations. For example, you can discuss what an insult like, “you throw like a girl” says about boys and girls. You can also discuss examples from television or movies.
Ask questions about what your boys think and feel about disrespect and gender equality. Conversation starters might include, “do you notice any differences in how girls and boys are treated at school?” or “Have you ever heard a boy say something to a girl that you didn’t agree with?”
Support empathy by modelling this yourself. If you notice your child acting out, acknowledge their perspective AND reinforce appropriate behaviour, e.g. “I know you were frustrated, but we treat everyone with respect no matter what.” Prompt your child to understand another person’s perspective with questions like, “how would you feel if you were treated like that?”
You can create a safer future for women and girls by stopping disrespect at the start.
For more support and resources around this topic, please visit https://www.respect.gov.au/resources/talking-about-respect/ or call 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732) or Men’s Line 1300 78 99 78.
Silverdale’s Jacob Di Giorgio will be shooting his second short film during the upcoming school holidays, slated to begin during late September/early October. The film will be shot in and around the historic township of Warragamba.
“Without giving too much away, the town of Warragamba and the Dam will be the heroes of the story. Second to that, it follows the friendship of two boys who get up to some wholesome mischief during the school holidays. All the iconic landmarks of the town will be included in the film” said Film Maker Jacob.
The ambitious teenager previously made the short Film, Warragamba Life, appearing alongside friend Jack Joukador. The film was entered in the 2021 FlickerUp Film Festival. Released on YouTube, it has already gathered over 1,300 views online.
With the experience of making his first film now under his belt, Jacob is looking forward to beginning his next project. He will also have some assistance from Joe, his Father.
“I will be looking forward to being outdoors in Warragamba, during the Springtime. This is such a beautiful place all year round, but Spring is truly special. I can’t wait to show everyone the final product and bring a smile to people’s faces when their see their hometown” he explained.
Jacob has a passion for where he lives. He couldn’t think of any other place to film than home, “It is where I live. It’s my hometown and it has so much history. Everywhere you look, the old Warragamba is still very much visible, and I really want to showcase that in our film.
Just as he did previously, he hopes to enter his next film into festivals.
“Yes, we will be entering the film into festivals. We haven’t decided which one yet, since there are so many to choose from. This will most likely be decided by the finish date and the final length of our film. But the real joy is releasing the film to the general public via YouTube” Jacob smiled.

The experience at The Valley Junction was exceptional and the staff were very attentive and extremely helpful. They have a large menu and what impressed me was the selection of menu options. They also cater for those of us with allergies, who may have special dietary requirements.
Having read the menu before arriving at The Valley Junction, I was keen to try the Yellow Mellow Juice which consisted of orange, pineapple, and mango. This juice had a very fresh clean taste, and the flavours were exquisite. I was not aware that you can build your own juice, which is what Katie (Support Worker) did and she really enjoyed her juice also.
I wanted to try the Waffle Fries and wow, amazing. The Waffle Fries were crisp, and each were a different shape. These fries should be shared.
I chose the classic Wagyu Beef Burger for my main course. The beef burger contained Wagyu patty, cheese, cos lettuce, tomato, caramelised onion, bacon, fried egg, BBQ sauce and onion rings with chips on the side. This burger was flavourful, the cheese, bacon beef and sauce all went together, and every mouthful was different.
Katie really enjoyed the Salmon Bagel which consisted of smoked salmon, spinach leaves, ricotta cheese, Spanish onion, and caper berries.
I was tempted to try one of the iced lattes however, after having eaten most of our order, I was full.
In conclusion, The Valley Junction really cared about making customer’s feel welcome and at home. Vinnie and his staff really made the experience the best it could be, and I have no hesitation in giving The Valley Junction a ten out of ten.
I highly recommend The Valley Junction for those looking for a quiet cafe to eat at. You will not be disappointed. The atmosphere really suited the cafe, and the selection of music was enjoyable. Thanks, team, for such a wonderful experience.

Local café and hospitality business Horse and Harpy in Silverdale have some exciting news to share for lovers of coffee, with the introduction of their very own range of freshly roasted coffee.
There are three blends in their range, consisting of Safari, Church Blend and Catchment. Safari is a dark roast with Columbia and Guatemala origins, Church Blend is a medium roast with Columbia, Papua New Guinea, Guatemala and Costa Rica origins and Catchment is a light roast with Costa Rica and Papua New Guinea origins.
They are high grade coffees, with some of them roasted locally in Silverdale. Paying homage to the local Wollondilly area, their labels also feature photos of African Lion Safari, All Saints Anglican Church, and Warragamba Dam.
“Our new freshly roasted range of coffee has been in the making for the past two years. This has been through developing relationships and researching within the industry” explained Jacob Golding of Horse and Harpy to the Mulgoa Valley Gazette.
“The inspiration behind the three blends was to showcase the passion that we have in our coffee and our local community” he continued.
The new range is available to purchase in a range of sizes consisting of beans, fine or coarse grind directly from Horse and Harpy, located at 1980 Silverdale Road in Silverdale and online at www.horseandharpy. com.au.
You can find it at The Barbers Joint in Wallacia, where it is stocked for their customers.
The team at Horse and Harpy have undertaken research and worked hard to bring this range to life.
“Our team is super passionate about our coffee. We have worked with big roasters on this project, learning as much as we can from them.
“We are always developing our understanding of coffee, adapting, and sharing our passion with customers. Stay tuned” Jacob ended. Own Coffee

Penrith Council are asking residents to be careful on what they place in their bins. This follows a garbage truck catching fire while collecting red lid bins in Luddenham. Fortunately, the driver was able to tip the burning load and the fire brigade were able to extinguish the fire. While the cause of the fire is not confirmed, it is believed to be started from chemicals or a battery that were placed in a bin. Council advises that chemicals, paint, gas bottles and other household hazardous waste should not go into the bins.
Luddenham Public School has achieved exceptional results in the Year 3 and Year 5 NAPLAN test. Overall, the students were well above the state average in reading and numeracy and achieved the best results the school has seen in over a decade. Congratulations to all the students and a huge thank you to everyone at the school. Everyone is incredibly proud of this result, well done students and teachers.

It is that time of the year where snakes are out and about. Lately reports of some brown and red belly black snakes have been sighted around town.
Both local Councils have been asked not to forget about Luddenham. With the increase of property values, the Councils have received a windfall with extra rates, yet the condition of our roads are the worst I have seen it, and things like grass cutting are falling behind. Also, the State Government has again been asked to install the Luddenham Town Centre signs that they promised on Elizabeth Drive and Northern Road coming from Penrith. Wayne Willmington
It is great to acknowledge the hard work and efforts of our veterinary nurses. The nurses do a lot of work behind the scenes that you do not see or hear about. The nurses monitor the patients whilst under general anaesthetic, medicate animals whilst in hospital, answer enquiries, clean the hospital, and ensure the smooth running of the veterinary hospital. Without the veterinary nurses, we would not be able to do our job as veterinarians.
We will be celebrating by having a long lunch on the day, which is hard to do in a busy veterinary hospital.
We have 24 nurses at the hospital, and I hope you get to know them as you come and visit our hospital.
Our Kitten Adoption Program enables us to find homes for stray and unwanted kittens.
We have 2 lovely kittens ready for adoption now!
The kittens are 21 weeks old. They are both males. One white and one ginger tabby.
They have playful personalities and are so much fun to watch when they play together.
Both kittens have a health check. They have had their kitten vaccinations, been desexed, microchipped and have a product called Advocate applied, which controls fleas, intestinal worms
and heartworm. We also worm them for tapeworms.
When you adopt a kitten you are making a long term decision. Cats can live up to 20 years if provided with a loving caring home. Kittens have certain requirements including providing a balanced and nutritious diet which you will need to change to an adult formula after the age of 6 to 9 months.
Your kitten needs a yearly vaccination to protect it against diseases. Routine flea and worm medication must be also given.
If you are interested in adopting one of our kittens, feel free to pop in for a visit.

Undeniably, the past month has been a difficult one for many.
Tragically, for the families and friends of the five youths whose lives were cut short in a single vehicle crash at Buxton; where nearby communities rallied together in a show of support and strength as those families and friends faced the unimaginable.
And historically, the entire world mourned the passing of Her Majesty, The Queen. Aged 96 she was the longest-reigning monarch in British history. Serving the Commonwealth for over 70 years was just as amazing as the life she led. Thank you, Queen Elizabeth II for all that you did. It is hard to imagine a world without her.
This month, you’ll find an extra special treat with guest food reviewer Scott in our newest column ‘Food 4 Thought’ – we’re sure it will tickle your taste buds!
