“The NSW Liberals and Nationals are improving the State’s freight connections so food, produce and raw materials can be transported more quickly and cost effectively, ensuring produce gets to market and the economy keeps moving, not only now but well into the future,” Mr Farraway said.

Mayor Matt Gould said, “The Kids of Macarthur Health Foundation is dedicated to improving health care provision for every child living in our region.” “Having this equipment available locally means that parents are less likely to have to transport their sick children outside of the region to receive specialist health care.”

Funds raised at the Mayor’s Charity Night will go towards a $130,000 high quality obstetric ultrasound system which includes first trimester screening.

“The latest round of this program will support our region and ensure safer roads for everyone meaning more time at home.”Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said the new round of the $543 million program will focus on shovel-ready projects that will deliver immediate benefits to communities.

The NSW Government is encouraging councils to apply for the latest round of the Fixing Country Roads program to help enhance the productivity of the State’s farming, manufacturing and freight sectors.Member for Wollondilly, Nathaniel Smith, said better roads led to stronger local economies, stronger employment opportunities – particularly for youth – and ultimately stronger country communities.“Ourcouncils have faced enough challenges over the past few years and crews have been working incredibly hard out to maintain and upgrade these vital roads,” Mr Smith said.

They have previously worked in a number of different industries.“Luddenham is a beautiful little town. I grew up in a small town and it very much reminds me of that,” said Yogi. Yogi explained that the support from the community has been“Theoverwhelming.peoplehereare friendly, honest, and down to earth. They have been very helpful in guiding us with the business and making us feel welcomed. We already know a lot of the locals by first name, which is great” he explained. Last month, the Luddenham Progress Association held its AGM. The meeting was chaired by the Community Commissioner Professor Roberta Ryan, and she also updated the meeting on Luddenham and its future. The following were elected - President: Patrick Darley-Jones, Vice President: Wayne Willmington and John Willmington, Secretary: Jenny Schweers, Assistant Secretary: Glenda Belay, Treasurer: Glen Marsden, Publicity Officer: Joe Musico and Booking Officer: Linda Marsden. They are looking for new members to join the Association that meet in the hall on the first Wednesday of each month.

The Luddenham Show Society was also holding its AGM on the 28th of August, and results were not available at the time of going to print.

Luddenham Rural Fire Brigade are looking for new members, if you have some spare time and would like to get involved in this community organization, give Bob a call on 4773 4142. They meet on the second Monday of the month at the Fire Station.

In August, a deputation from Luddenham Progress Association met with some of the management of Western Sydney Airport Co. to discuss the future of Luddenham. During the meeting, it became evident that WSA Co was not aware of the Luddenham Village Interim Strategy that was released by the NSW Department of Planning in March. The Interim Strategy proposes new housing to the northern end of Luddenham Village, outside of all noise contours. This important distinction directly addresses the concerns that WSA Co had raised about the options for the future of Luddenham Village. The Progress Association has once again written to WSA Co asking them to withdraw their objection to new homes in Luddenham out of the noise contours.

When you have a building that is 136 years old, there is always maintenance. That is the case with the Progress Hall, who have just updated all the electrical wiring, added safety switches and new emergency lighting. Some of the wiring looks like it was original from when the electricity came to Luddenham way back in 1938.

“A national crisis of vet and nurse availability, COVID, the impact of the weather and health issues which included fracturing my wrist multiple times and needing surgery have contributed towards the decision” explained Dr Blom.

“I have had everything from budgies to elephants at the clinic and everything else in between. I’ve microchipped lions. Had a tiger in the reception area. I’ve worked with the animals at Luddenham Show. We’ve assisted the birth of puppies and taken the dogs throughout their whole lives. Clients who were children when they first came here have grown up to be adults with their own children. It has been a blessing and a privilege to serve the community and work here for the past 17 years” reflected Dr Blom.

DROP-OFFE-WASTEDAYE-wasteDrop-offDayTheKingswayPlayingFields,Werrington

Right now, e-waste is growing three times faster than other waste. And with the way the world is becoming more tech savvy, we need to become more e-waste savvy. It’s so important to dispose of e-waste properly and responsibly. E-waste can’t go in your household bins. Recycling at our E-waste Drop-off Day keeps e-waste out of landfill and our community safe.

“I knew that I wanted to be a Vet from the age of 11 years old. Some said I wouldn’t be, and I proved them all wrong. I have been involved for 45 years in the industry. I will vet again” she stated. She wished to thank the local community for all their support over the decades.

Dr Blom has always wanted to be a Vet and hopes to continue to practice in the future.

There have been many incredible memories that Dr Blom and her staff have had over the years at the business.

It was the end of an era for Mulgoa Veterinary Clinic, with the much-loved business closing its doors last month.

The local clinic was purchased by Dr Bernice Blom on 4th January in 2005 from Dr Christou. Dr Christou opened the vet 11 years before in 1994. Back then, it started its humble beginnings at the back of Mulgoa Shopping Village, before growing and moving. Whilst the clinic was owned by Dr Christou, Dr Blom began her veterinary career. She had spent 28 years working in veterinary services in the area, before making the heartbreaking decision to close the clinic.

“I tried to sell the clinic and find a vet to buy it and grow the business. We just couldn’t keep it going. It was a devastating choice to make. I have sought leads for jobs for my existing staff once they leave. A beautiful family has bought the property to make it their new home” she continued.

3. Left sided colitis – rectum, sigmoid and descending colon

4. Pancolitis – entire colon Rarely the small intestine that meets the colon may also be inflamed.Symptoms may be limited to rectal bleeding alone. As more of the colon becomes involved, symptoms may include fever, abdominal and rectal pain, cramping, and an urgency to defecate without being able to go. Sufferers have ongoing diarrhoea unrelieved by over-the-counter medications (often also passing blood and puss). Dehydration, weight loss, fatigue, anaemia, vitamin deficiencies, serious malnutrition and bone loss may result. Complications include liver, skin, eye, joint inflammation, perforated colon, increased colon cancer risk; in serious cases toxic megacolon, and possible death.

It is even worse when you deceive yourself. It is all too easy to believe your own lies about yourself, others, and the world around you. The problem is, of course, that reality has this habit of eventually catching up with you and exposing the sad stupidity of any deception. So,how can you even know if you are being deceived? You need someone who can speak into your world clearly and with authority. That is exactly what Jesus did and continues to do. He spoke the truth about us as human beings and what it means to live in God’s world. People thought he himself was deceived (even deluded) and killed him for it. However, his resurrection from the dead shows that he is the one who can speak truth into a lost world. There are lots of different voices in the world, but the one you can always trust is the voice of Jesus. You can find his voice in the words of the Bible. Have you ever been deceived? It might have been by a con artist, a scammer or even, more sadly, by someone you knew. The difficulty about being deceived is that you don’t realise it at the time. If you thought you were being deceived, then you wouldn’t have been deceived!

83,500 Australians suffer Ulcerative Colitis (UC). Patients are most frequently diagnosed at ages 15-35 and 55-70. Patients may be of any race, but likely to be white, Ashkenazi Jews. UC is usually categorized according to the parts of the large bowel involved/inflamed i.e.:

4. Serosa: external layer of connective tissue around the colon UC generally affects the mucosa and submucosa, the muscularis in severe disease. Sharp borders exist between normal and affected (ulcerated) tissue.

The normal colon wall consists of four main layers (inner to outer):1.The mucosa: lining cells

5. Eventually scattered haemorrhagic areas appear

4. If cell deaths continue, the mucosa takes on a finely granular look, and becomes friable (breaks easily); normal vascular pattern is lost

I am so grateful for the families that generously gave up their time to help bring our school back to its former glory for the children and community” said Lloyd Kusa, Relieving Principal at Warragamba Public School.

“This was a massive start. It opened a lot of discussion of other amazing things that we could do to connect with the community and give our students every opportunity to succeed! 14 September 2022 www.mulgoagazette.com.au PARENTS CORNER Article Written + Submitted by: Monica Purcell | Family Facilitator Nepean Community & Neighbourhood Services W: www.nepeancommunity.org.au E: info@nepeancommunity.org.au r Image: https://www.napcan.org.au/

The first thing to know is that open communication is more about how you are with your child than the words you use. It’s important that you remain calm during even the most difficult conversations. Big adult emotions can overwhelm children and cause them to ‘shut down’.

Focus on listening, rather than responding. Being listened to helps children explore their feelings, put ideas into words, brainstorm solutions to their own problems and develop selfconfidence. Your full focus makes them feel respected and helps them know that their thoughts and feelings matter. Be open to talking about all feelings – joy, sadness, fear, anger, worry. Separate behaviour from emotion. Remember: “all feelings are OK, but not all behaviours are OK”. Children build their emotion vocabulary from the adults around them.

Talk to your child about safety, where they feel safe, with whom they feel safe and what it feels like to be safe. Discuss ‘early warning signs’ (how their body feels) and encourage them to trust their feelings and instincts.

National Child Protection Week (4-10 September) is all about the ways that we can all work together to build communities that support children and families. Visit www. napcan.org.au to find out more.

Children are safest when they are listened to, respected, and believed by the adults around them. There are ways you can create a safe space for your child to share their concerns and worries with you.

In addition to staying calm, approach your child with curiosity and non-judgment. You may feel temptation to lecture but check this urge at the door. During a hard time, would you confide in someone who only points out your faults? Probably not! If children feel judged, they are less likely to come to you with their struggles again. Choose the time and place carefully. A neutral space such as the living room can be ideal. Pick a time when you are not too busy to listen. For some children, they feel more comfortable talking about their emotions during parallel activities like a taking a drive in the car or going for a walk.

“Mums and dads can socialise and have some much-needed down time when they are here,” said Cathie. Members of the community are welcome to turn up each week, with no need to book. r Children can build their social skills | Image: www.pexels.com

There’s some exciting news for the local community, with Wallacia Playgroup returning, after relaunching last month.

The group’s first day back was on Thursday 11th August, since COVID restrictions. They now meet weekly on Thursdays from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Wallacia Christian Community Church. This is during school terms only. With the arrival of Spring, it is hoped that the group will grow to accommodate for more members.

“It was a great night. We had a band with lots of dancing, raffles and we awarded two life memberships to Trisha Hoban and Pam Dalton for their endless commitment to the club” explained Nicole Stanford, President of Warragamba Netball Club to the Mulgoa Valley Gazette.

An important sporting milestone has been reached by Warragamba Netball Club, with the club celebrating its 50th Anniversary last month. A big birthday celebration took place at Warragamba Town Hall on Saturday 13th August, with past and present players, officials, family, and friends coming together to mark the special occasion. The night’s entertainment included a band, raffles, and awards. Wollondilly Mayor Matt Gould was also in attendance.

Warragamba Netball Club Celebrates 50th Anniversary

To commemorate the celebration, all players, coaches, and committee members at Warragamba Netball Club received a 50th Anniversary Jersey at the beginning of the season. With the 2022 Penrith District Netball Association Season coming to a close, the club have 17 of 20 eligible teams on track to make the finals. An incredible achievement during their Golden Anniversary year.

As I compile the final touches of the September edition, I look out my window to notice it is a typical Winter’s day, cold, wet and blustery. Nothing at all like the weather we experienced only a week before. I can only hope, like everyone else, that better weather is around the corner as we turn the leaf into Spring.Ialways enjoy Spring, not only for the promise of wonderful weather, but the downward descent to Christmas. What’s not to love about gorgeous Spring days, socialising and the festive lead up to Christmas? This month Monica highlights the importance of child-safety in ‘Parents Corner’ given September plays host to National Child Safety week. While Camille dishes out some ‘Dad’ Jokes in ‘Paws A While’ in view of Fathers Day.Fathers Day is the first Sunday in September, a timely reminder to spend time with or reach out to the Fathers and Fatherly figures in our lives, and remember those taken too soon.
