Proposed Luddenham crematorium
Young Achiever of the Year 2012
The proposed crematorium, cemetery and memorial gardens on Elizabeth Drive that was refused to Penrith Council by last year, has been submitted again. The new applicant, Stimson Consultant Services, lodged the application on December 23, when local people tend to be busy with Christmas and away on holiday! The Model Park on Luddenham Rd would be threatened as well as a major disruption to the local residents. The $13.6 million proposal includes an administration building, cafe and florist, three chapels around the crematorium, and a maintenance building. Below-ground burial areas cover 10ha; above-ground burial areas, 1.8ha; areas for memorial plaques and tombs/columbariums, 3.2ha. There is also proposed parking for 382 cars.
Planning madness The NSW Government has asked landholders to nominate sites that could be developed for housing, which would be considered by the State Government bypassing the views and needs of local communities. Penrith Mayor Greg Davies said: “This process goes against the planned growth approach adopted by all governments for decades, which is to deliver new growth in a managed and focussed way that builds on existing urban areas, established infrastructure and creates new local jobs. “The sites nominated by developers are in Mulgoa, Glenmore Park, Orchard Hills, Mount Vernon, Luddenham, Kemps Creek and Wallacia. This is planning madness.
“These nominated sites equate to some 34,000 new houses in our City, which would create intolerable traffic congestion and place increased strain on services such as health.

In Memorium Phil Fisher
20th March 1957 to 4th February 2012 Phil has been a long time resident of Wallacia and was very well known in the area. He will be greatly missed by his family, the local community and the Wallacia Rural Fire Brigade. Phil was in the Wallacia Brigade for nearly 30 years. He joined in 1983 and was Captain from 1985 - 1995 and again from 1998 - 2003. He received his National Medal, his Long Service
Medal, was made a life member and was still Deputy Captain when he died. Phil was also well known for organising and participating in chainsaw events such as at the Luddenham Show. He was very hard working and a great role model for young people. His wife Chris said “he touched the hearts of so many people” Phil was very family orientated and he leaves behind his wife Chris, his children, Jason, Jodie and Michelle and his 7 grandchildren. He was a much loved man and will be sadly missed.

How’s the New Year’s Resolution Going? If you made New Year’s Resolutions, it’s now been over a month. Are they working? If not, perhaps it’s time to get back on the horse. Or get serious. Or give up. I don’t make New Years’ resolutions anymore. So mine are going fine. I’m such a creature of habit that it takes more than a ticking over of the year to make me change. My bet is most New Year’s Resolutions relate to weight, job, spending or the house. They probably aim at some transformation. We love seeing dramatic changes in appearances. That’s why we watch Biggest Loser, Excess Baggage, Beauty and the Geek, and Better Homes and Gardens. It’s good to be fit, have a nice appearance, fulfilling job, or nice stuff. But these aren’t the most important changes we need. ‘Godliness’ is more important. ‘Physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.’ (1 Timothy 4:8 NIV). Godliness means being made like
Jesus, who is God. Godliness is thinking and doing right to God and neigbour all the time, just like Jesus did. What a huge change that needs to happen in each of us! And the wonderful news is, God is working this transformation in everyone to whom He gives his Holy Spirit. They are being transformed into the likeness of Christ with ever increasing glory (2 Corinthians 3:18). Why don’t you ask God for his Holy Spirit? Then God will transform you, too! Local Tree Climbing Competitor You have probably never heard of a tree climbing competition but James Stapleton from Warragamba is a qualified tree climber and came 3rd in NSW in his first competition. James has been in the forestry industry for over ten years and his wife Laura says, “Last November we opened a local business called "The Arbor Guru-Tree Services". We have lived in Warragamba for the last three and half years. We have lived in the Penrith area for many years and went to the local schools here. We are hoping that our business will grow and be of assistance to the local community. 2010 was a very big year for us as we had our first son Billy which was very special for our family. James entered his first Tree Climbing competition. It was NSW Tree Climbing Competition held in Cronulla, Sydney. It was a very long and exhausting day. He pushed himself to the limits. After a huge day of climbing and competing in events that started at 7am and finished at 7.30pm, it was announced that he came 3rd in NSW. We were all
able to go watch him compete which was wonderful. They were amazed at what he can do and were also super proud of him. This year the NSW championships are being held in the North of NSW and the National championships are being held in Tasmania. We are hoping once again his hard work, training and natural ability will shine through and he get a place again. James in action
very proud of him. We knew that he was good at what he does, but to be recognised in such a way is very special. James was invited to attend the National Championships in Darwin a few months later. Unfortunately due to having limited funds from myself being on maternity leave, he could not go. He said 'next time'. He is a wonderful family man and always puts us first. Last year we all went on a roadtrip down to Victoria for another Tree Climbing Competition and James improved in his events and times. He trained really hard prior to the competition which was all worth it. His immediate family all live near Melbourne so his Dad, sister and two brothers were
James at the base of the 75m Woodford Tree
He is also in training and has just climbed one of the tallest trees in NSW, at Woodford in the Blue Mountains. It is approximately 75m tall and a photographer accompanied the team of 5 climbers to record the event.

Will you Shave for a Cure? Did you know? ■ Blood cancer is Australia’s biggest cancer killer, after lung cancer ■ More than 11,500 Australians will develop leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma this year – or a person every 46 minutes ■ Right now, more than 40,000 Australian families are facing the physical, emotional, and financial challenges of blood cancer ■ The Leukaemia Foundation is the only national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the care and cure of people with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood disorders. That’s why so many people are as passionate as us about this campaign... and why your support is so vital. Your donations and sponsorship will also support families when they need it most, providing leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma patients with a free home-away-from-home near hospital during their treatment.
It will also mean we can transport them to appointments and provide as much practical assistance and emotional support as we can, all free of charge.

Off-Leash Areas Wollondilly Shire Council has recently allocated another off leash area for pets on Thirlmere Way, Tahmoor in front of the skate park. There are five off leash in Wollondilly and the Warragamba area is Warragamba Sportsground, corner Warradale Road and Farnsworth Avenue, located in the back eastern corner of the sportsground. Signage is in place at all locations. Bins within those areas accept dog
waste and officers do regular random patrols of these areas. While in offleash areas, owners must always have control of their dogs for the safety of all patrons. Animals must be on leash in all other public areas. Off leash areas provide social contact for your dog, along with both physical exercise and mental stimulation. It’s also a healthy way for pet owners to get some exercise and to spend some time with their four legged friends. If you don’t have a dog and you
